A Shocking Reunion
As I drove down the familiar dirt road, a wave of nostalgia washed over me. It's been six years since I left the pack, I thought. Waves of memories came flooding back as I drove on, the pack hadn't changed much since I'd left, there were a lot more houses than I remembered. I saw a few familiar faces in the distance but I ignored them, there would be time for reunions later. I wanted to see Vincent. "Are you sure it's not Chloe you really want to see?" A voice echoed in my head,my face flushed and my breathing quickened. It had been years since I saw her but her blue eyes were etched in my memory. As I got out of the car I heard strange noises from inside and my hair stood on end - something was wrong. I rushed to the house and what I saw made my blood run cold. I stood frozen in the doorway, my eyes fixed on the scene before me. My brother, Vincent, was forcing himself onto his wife, Chloe. The same Chloe I had secretly loved for years, but never had the courage to confess my feelings to. The same Chloe who was now married to my brother. My eyes blazed with anger, how dare he! "Vincent, stop it! What's going on here?" Vincent looked up, his face whitened like he'd seen a ghost, he stuttered; "It's… It's been ten years." "Ten years and the first thing I come home to see is you trying to force yourself on Chloe." I stared at him murderously, I clenched my fists instinctively. "Know your place, Mark!" Vincent snapped,"This doesn't concern you." My eyes locked unto Chloe's and it broke my heart to see her look so frightened, her face was stained with tears. Memories of the past flooded my mind, the day I left the country, heartbroken and defeated. I couldn't bear to stay and watch the woman I loved be with my own brother. But now, I was back, and the pain was just as raw. And now on my return, I met with this horrific scene. Chloe took advantage of the distraction and shifted from underneath Vincent. She stared at me and her eyes softened,"Get out, Mark. This is none of your business. Leave!...please," her voice broke. I felt a surge of anger and hurt, but I tried to keep my cool. "I'm making it my business. You're my brother, and I won't stand by and watch you hurt someone I care about." I glared at Vincent, I indirectly answered Chloe. I'd backed down all those years ago, I wasn't backing down this time. Vincent snorted. "You care about her? You left her, Mark. You left us all. You don't get to come back and pretend like you're concerned about our well-being." Vincent's words sent a surge of rage into me, my eyes narrowed menacingly. I took a step forward, my fists clenched at my sides. "I left because I couldn't bear to watch you two together. But I'm back now, and I'm not going to let you hurt her again." I kept my eyes fixed on Vincent, his face twisted in anger, as I spoke. Chloe's eyes widened as my words sank in, she was dumbstruck. "You dare speak to me like that?" Vincent's eyes bulged as he stared at me, he looked ready to blow his top off. Chloe stepped forward, her eyes pleading. "Mark, please. Just leave. This is between me and Vincent." I hesitated, torn between my desire to protect Chloe and my need to confront my brother. But my eyes hardened, I'd rather disappoint her than leave her here with Vincent in this state. "Leave, I'll talk to him," I whispered, Chloe's eyes widened. She started shaking her head. "You're leaving, now go!" I said firmly. Chloe hesitated before she nodded and left, leaving me and Vincent. I stood in the doorway, my heart still racing. I couldn't believe what I had just walked in on. My brother, Vincent, forcing himself on his wife, Chloe. The woman I had loved in secret for so long. I felt a wave of anger and betrayal as I watched Vincent try to brush off the incident. "It's just a normal fight, Mark. Don't worry about it," he said, his voice dripping with condescension. I took a step forward, my eyes narrowed, my gaze piercing "Normal fight? You call that a normal fight? You were forcing yourself on her!" Vincent rolled his eyes. "You're being dramatic, Mark. It was just a misunderstanding." I felt my anger boil over. "A misunderstanding? You're not even sorry, are you? You're not sorry for what you did, what else have you been doing all these years, ohh asides the fact you're ruining Dad's business." My expression became colder as I spoke. Vincent shrugged. "It's just an argument Mark, just pressure from business.." Vincent's lips curled up in a mocking smile,"Something that you have no idea in, why is that so? Oh I remember now, you were a coward and you ran away." Vincent spat at me. My hands clenched as Vincent spoke, the business? The very same one that was on the verge of collapsing, thanks to Vincent's mismanagement. The one that our father had built from the ground up, and that I had always been passionate about. I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down. But the anger and betrayal were still there, simmering just below the surface. "You know, Vincent," I said, my voice low and even. "I think I will focus on the business. And I think I'll start by taking it away from you." Vincent's eyes narrowed. "You'll never be able to do that, Mark. You're just a stepson, a nobody. You'll never be able to take control of the business away from me." He snarled, his expression twisted. I smiled, a cold, calculated smile. "We'll see about that, Vincent. We'll see about that."A Fresh StartI packed a small suitcase with only the essentials, my hands shaking with fear and anger. I couldn't believe Vincent had tried to rape me, and I knew I had to escape before he tried again. I grabbed Mackenzie's hand, her eyes wide with confusion."Mommy, where are we going?" she asked, her voice trembling."We're going to Rachel's, sweetie," I replied, trying to sound calm. "We'll be safe there."Mackenzie looked on the verge of tears, but she simply nodded, not asking any more questions. I breathed a sigh of relief, thankful that Vincent wasn't home. I couldn't imagine how he would react if I tried to leave while he was here.As we left the house, I felt a mix of emotions: relief, fear, and anxiety. I had no idea how I would provide for Mackenzie, but I knew I couldn't stay with Vincent any longer."But Mummy," Mackenzie pulled my hand, "Aren't we taking Brownies?"I forced a smile, "Not now Mackenzie, we'll come back for her later okay?"She nodded, her expression look
The UltimatumAs I stepped into Mark's office, my heart raced with anxiety. Mark's piercing gaze scrutinized me, making me squirm in my seat. His eyes seemed to bore into my soul, as if searching for secrets I didn't want to reveal."So, Chloe, tell me, why do you need this job so desperately?" Mark's deep voice was firm and businesslike.I hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. My mind raced with thoughts of Vincent, my ex-husband, and the mess I'd left behind. I saw something flash in Mark's eyes, a glimmer of understanding perhaps, or a hint of empathy."It's...To be honest, Mark, I'm in a difficult situation," I began, my voice barely above a whisper. "I need this job to support myself." I swallowed hard, the words sticking in my throat. I hated that I had to be desperate in this way and to him of all people, but I had no choice.Mark raised an eyebrow, his expression skeptical. "Vincent, can provide for you. He runs the biggest company in the city. Why do you need to work?" I too
My chest rose and fell rapidly as I breathed, the tension in the office felt like an unexpected weight pressing down on me. Mark's words left me stunned; he wanted me. He'd said it firmly, leaving no room for rebuttal. "I…" my tongue tangled in knots, "I need time to think about this," I said and my voice trembled, I didn't dare raise my head to meet Mark's gaze. "Whatever you say," Mark said with a dismissive wave of his hand, looking confident. "I expect an answer by tomorrow," Mark said, his eyes gleaming with a knowing glint as his eyes swept over me and I could even feel a trace of want. My face flushed under his stare."Yes," I nodded and I got to my feet, "I'll be leaving, thank you." I turned around immediately to leave. "Wait," Mark said, stopping me just as I was about to open the door, he smiled as he got to his feet. "I'll see you off." My heart raced and I tried to maintain a neutral expression as he approached me, "You don't have to, Mark." "Sure I do," Mark shrugged
My eyes fluttered open as I came to, a gasp escaped my lips as a sharp pain shot through me. The pain wiped away my grogginess and I opened my eyes, I furrowed my brows as I looked around, wondering where I was.Memories of what had happened in the forest flooded my mind, and my heart beat erratically, Vincent had lost it. How could he do that… another sharp pain shot through me, cutting off my thoughts. I could barely stifle a groan. I slowly sat up, looking around cautiously.I was in a room, the curtains had been drawn and the room was dimly lit. My head throbbed as I got out of bed, my eyes widened as I saw my clothes; all I was wearing was a big shirt over my underwear. Who had changed me into these clothes?
It was surreal watching Mark interact with Mackenzie. My thoughts wandered as I stared at them, my mind in a daze—Mark, with his usual calm and composed demeanor, his eyes that stared at Mackenzie held an emotion I couldn't quite place. They were sitting on the floor in the living room, surrounded by a sea of colorful blocks that Mackenzie had scattered across the carpet. I had no idea where Mark had brought them from, after a quick sip of water they'd come here straight from outside. I'd just finished cleaning up.“Do you think the princess would like a tower this tall?” Mark chuckled, holding up a toy block to the tower they were building.Mackenzie giggled, “No, it needs to be taller!” she insisted, her little hands reaching for more blocks.
The chirping of the birds woke me up, a yawn escaping my lips as I stretched, savoring the quiet morning. But the calm was quickly replaced by a jolt of anxiety when I noticed the empty spot beside me where Mackenzie should have been. Where was she? My heart skipped a beat as I glanced around, suddenly alert.I pushed the sheets away and hurried out of bed, the lingering sleepiness vanishing as concern took over. Descending the stairs, I strained to hear any sounds. Relief washed over me as I approached the kitchen and spotted Mackenzie, her small figure standing by the counter.“You scared me, Mackenzie,” I sighed, wrapping my arms around her and leaning down to place a gentle kiss on her forehead. “What are you doing down here so early?” I glanced around the kitchen, surprised that Mark w
The company building loomed in front of me as I pulled into the parking lot. My heart pounded in my chest as I stared at it, muttering a silent prayer before stepping out of the car. Rachel had lent me her car to get to work, but even in the borrowed black suit I felt stiff and out of place. My palms were sweaty as I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself before heading inside. The receptionist’s eyes widened slightly as she spotted me. “Good morning, Miss Chloe,” she greeted warmly, her tone respectful.I nodded, trying to keep my voice steady. “I’m here to see…” I began, but she interrupted.&ldqu
VincentMy eyes were reddened with rage as I stalked back into the car, damn Mark! My nostrils flared, I regretted that I couldn't take action there and then.Calm, calm, I exhaled slowly, calming myself down. If there was one thing I'd learned, it was to always remain calm.“We could've had him, boss. You just had to give the order,” Calvin groaned as he climbed into the driver's seat. Calvin was my Beta, he and I had been through thick and thin, and there was no one else I'd turn my back to. The others climbed into the back, their faint grumblings were not too far from what Calvin meant.&nb
