REINA’S POV
“Who– who are– who are you?” I stuttered but I was hit with a deafening silence. The figure just stood still and watched. My eyes struggled to map out the features, but it remained concealed in the darkness.
As I charged forward with one bold step, I caught a fleeting glimpse of a woman shrouded in a black hooded cloak. She dashed further and deeper, moving swiftly into the opposite direction of the woods.
Minsi quickly pursued. I struggled to restrain my wolf, I had never been that weak keeping her at bay. My strength could only do so little but I managed to stop her from emerging.
Something was making her rage.
“That's not a wolf, Reina,” Minsi panted as we chased after the woman, scattering through the woods.
She was fast. Too fast or I was just extremely slow for her.
Suddenly, without warning, an overwhelming power halted me and I found myself pinned against a tree trunk.
“Reina!” I heard my best friend scream.
“Corolla?”
I asked surprisingly as we both tried to catch our breaths. I didn't realise Corolla was running after me the whole time while I chased… where was it?
Where was this none wolf figure I was pursuing? The woman in the black hooded cloak. She had vanished without a trace.
Minsi's voice repeatedly cried out, “That's not a wolf Reina, I don't know what it is but it's not one of us.”
“Why were you running? It was your cue to come in 15 minutes ago.” Corolla scolded, oblivious to the fear that had taken hold of me.
“Wait! What?” I asked, shoving her question aside, “You didn't see?” I looked at the direction I was running to before she caught up with me and pinned me to the tree.
She gave me a confused stare and took a glance at the direction, scanning the area. Then her blank gaze landed on me, she shook her head.
“See what?” she asked hysterically.
“I swear I saw someone,” I blurted out.
Corolla only nodded and asked me to follow her back to the right direction and to where everyone was waiting.
I agreed and said nothing else as I trailed behind, trying to calm Minsi down as she continued to growl softly. If our secret dared to come out, it shouldn't be on a day like this.
“What was it?” Corolla asked curiously and I shook my head and said it was nothing.
I hastily collected myself, no matter how disturbed I was by what I thought I had seen, I wasn't going to let anything or anyone ruin my night.
The clear opening was surrounded by the members from our pack and Woodwick's.
This was the man chosen to be my mate. Ruthless Alpha Van Killian. I was standing at close proximity to him, somehow, my troubled heart relaxed from the tension it was feeling earlier.
“Is that him?” I asked Minsi, “he doesn't look ruthless. Anything but ruthless,” I smiled.
What a hunk! I could see his muscles flexing in his tight hugging shirt. A perfect body like that of a Greek god and a handsome face carved to perfection.
His brown curls and elegant presence clouded my mind, his scent lingering like sweet rose petals and everyone around seemed to have faded away, leaving just the two of us.
I was drawn to him in a way that was new to me, a way that made everything else irrelevant.
“Mate!” Minsi interjected amidst my thoughts.
“What?” I asked shockingly, “he's my fated mate?”
“Dummy, can't you feel it?” Minsi laughed ferociously and I could feel her wagging her tail out of excitemet.
I had given up in searching for my fated mate but destiny had brought him to me. I stood next to Van and smiled at him, but he just looked away, dismissively.
My smile suddenly turned to a frown. He was ruthless afterall.
Tauriel stood next to my father with a smirk on her face, I couldn't sight Gina. Corolla noticed I was anxious and gestured to me to remain calm.
“Reina, there's something wrong,” Minsi began to grumble, but I dismissed it without a second thought.
Obviously, everything was wrong. I was getting married to a ruthless Alpha, fated mate or not, he stood tall and wicked.
The priest chanted some words, invoking the power of the moon and I waited for Van's vow. He turned, facing me and his hazel eyes pierced into my eyes, I wasn't sure what to do.
My face froze in shock. I couldn't believe what I just heard. I demanded to hear it again and with no regret, he unapologetically obliged.
“I, Alpha Van Killian of Woodwick, reject Reina Grayson of the Moonlight pack as my mate.”
His words felt like a knife to my heart cutting and slicing every bit of me. Minsi was groaning in pain and it felt like my heart began to bleed.
I knew Van felt the same pain, the look engraved on his face gave him away.
My guts twisted in agony as my ears picked up every murmur that enveloped the pack members. They all seemed to be against me.
“She deserves it. We all know she's weak and wolf-less, ” a voice said.
And another admitted saying, “The Alpha needs a strong Luna.”
What was happening seemed like a nightmare. Minsi was right, something was clearly wrong.
Suddenly, Gina emerged from behind the crowd and slowly walked forward, standing beside Alpha Van with a triumphant smirk on her face, and her arms placed on his shoulder possessively. She leaned over to me and whispered softly into my ears saying,
“I'm sorry, sister,”
I didn't want to believe that she planned this all from the start? To let our father choose me and then disgrace me and take my place. He always listened to her.
No, Gina wouldn't. She loved me, she would never. I tried to discard those thoughts, but the truth was staring at me right in the face. My sister betrayed me.
The world started to spin. My blood coursed through my veins agitatedly like a raging storm as flashbacks of recent weeks flooded my brain.
So many questions I wanted to ask but my voice was lost. I felt my back fall on a hard surface and everything began to shatter.
I heard Minsi's sad wails, I was losing my grip on her, I was losing myself. Distorted faces were hovering over me, their voices asking,
“is, she alright?”
I also wanted to know if I was alright. Nothing felt real.
Why did Alpha Van reject me even after knowing I was his fated?
What was happening to me?
Tears streaming down my pale face, I watched in tremendous horror as my fated mate chose my sister as his mate. Corolla’s voice kept screaming for help, as I laid there dying, but nobody paid attention to us.
Then I heard a mournful howl pierce the cold air and impulsively everyone shifted into their wolf fo
rm, and howled in unison. My eyes sifted the full moon above just before I drew my last breath.
NARAH'S POV: Eighteen years later. My lungs paved way for laboured breaths as I glared straight into his hazel eyes. It was four against one but as usual, I already knew the outcome - my fate was sealed and I had resigned to it.I clutched my stomach, trying to soothe the pain but the incoming wave of wind from Jason's fist made me anxious. I ducked, but it still managed to land squarely on my already battered face.My sluggish reflexes were no match for his swift and mighty strike. With a great thud, I fell flat on my back and onto the green grass. This sent the other three laughing their fucking heads off, Crystal Belton laughed the loudest since she was the mastermind behind the whole thing. This scenario had gotten old. It was the same routine day after day, year after year and as a result of that, I had grown used to the blow and injuries they inflicted on me. It was a mundane aspect of my existence.I used to be good at hiding them but when I found out father didn't care, I stop
REINA’S POV“Narah, are you alright?” a strange girl who sat beside me asked as her hands patted my back, I laid back down and she rushed downstairs.I slowly opened my tired eyes and I was met with the sight of an unfamiliar environment, a room so small that it seemed as though the walls were gradually creeping up on me.The walls were covered with purple paint that was already peeling off. A single window dressed with shabby looking blinds, a little table and a rocking chair. The girl came back with a glass of water, and offered it to me and I thanked her.“Narah, are you alright?” She repeated. I was surprised as I couldn't recognise her. Last I recalled, I was… dead. The sudden realisation made my voice trail off into a sorrowful moan, repeatedly whispering the words, “No.” The girl was confused, she only stood and watched me. My hands ran through my hair, thinking deeply. I must have missed something. How did I die?Suddenly, I remembered Minsi. I reached out through a mind lin
NARAH'S POVThe music in the Café slowly faded into the background. The noise and bickering from the customers got quieter as I ran down memory lane, escaping this harsh reality.Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes as I stood face to face with my step-sister, Gina. She had grown even more beautiful than I recalled. Slender and taller. Her skin glowed under the hot summer sunlight that shone through the café’s glass, and her dark mane still flowed down to her waist like waterfalls. Her sultry green eyes caught mine and she frowned.“B*tch, you're going to pay for this top,” she said, squeezing my right arm. I hadn't noticed the two girls beside her until they chuckled, taking delight in how Gina treated me.This wasn't the Gina I knew. She used to be kind and sweet. I shook my head, getting over the past and accepting her for whom she was now; a betrayal.I remembered the night of the lunar bonding. Gina and I had shared a drink in my room. Poison. I am sure it was poison, and I co
NARAH'S POVAs we drove to Alpha Van’s home in a jet black SUV, I felt my heart pounding out of my chest. I was sitting next to Gina who kept stealing glances at me, every chance she got.She had left her friends at the Café on Alpha Van's orders, so they could take me to their abode.Van was sitting at the shotgun seat, not minding us at the back seat. He had his eyes fixed on the road, but twice, from the side mirror, I caught them flickering towards my direction, sending bolts of electricity through my bones. What was that? That feeling I got when I felt his eyes on me? Fate must be playing some kind of cruel joke on me after all, I thought.A couple of weeks ago, I was just an ordinary girl from a small town far away from here. I pinched my left arm and cursed underneath my breath. Deep down, I wished I had never regained the memories of my past life.“We're here.” Van's voice broke the deafening silence that once engulfed the vehicle's cabin. The gates opened wide the minute we t
ALPHA VAN'S POV(Flashback)Her grey curls and elegant presence clouded my mind, and everyone in the clearing seemed to have faded away, leaving just the two of us. My eyes stared dreamily at her.I was drawn to her. I longed for her in a way that was new to me, a way that made everything else irrelevant. My hands swiftly came out of my trouser’s pocket and nervously adjusted my tie, trying to compose myself and make me look presentable.“Mate, that's our mate, Van. That's our mate. We don't look further no more, here she is.” Curtis bubbled over with excitement, “After a hard long searches, we finally found mate.“Easy there, Curtis. Easy,” I hissed at my wolf, urging him to keep calm. She was not just a chosen mate, but a fated mate. She was ordained for me by the moon goddess, and I knew it the minute I set my eyes upon her. Her scent lingered like a ghost in my mind. She walked up to me, and her piercing blue eyes casted its gaze into mine like a gentle caress. I felt an undeniable
NARAH'S POVThe loud argument in the dining room kept everyone busy, they didn't even notice I had been standing there for a couple of minutes. My hands were fidgeting, and in the cool atmosphere, I began to feel sweat dripping down my forehead. What is Luna Tauriel doing here? I thought. She was pointing her finger at a handsome man who resembled Alpha Van, screaming, “I can come here whenever I wish. It's my daughter's home too.” I pursed my lips and fixed my gaze on her as memories of how she treated me in my past life flashed before my eyes. The big bad wolf was a name Minsi used to call her. I subconsciously giggled over the memory. My anxiety skyrocketed out the ceiling when all eyes at the dining table turned to me. Their gaze burned my skin like hot coal, melting my confidence away.I shot one quick look around the table. F**k! An empty seat right next to Luna Tauriel. Just what I needed! “Hi,” I said, waving my hand in the air awkwardly. My nervous feet managed to take me
NARAH'S POV:Luna Tauriel’s anger was evaporating into the atmosphere, seeping through the cool air and right into my pores. I was beginning to get a little annoyed, so I rolled my eyes, and asked nonchalantly,“What do you want?” “Do you know who you're talking to, you insolent child?” she said angrily. The sweet scent of Vanilla fragranced hand cream enveloped my nose, and with a deafening sound, her palms swiftly collided with my left chek.SPAK!I was dumbfounded. I knew she was evil, but I didn't take her as a woman so wicked to hit someone she barely knew. What the hell was I thinking? Of course, she'd do that, because her daughter did the exact same thing the first day we met.“How dare you?” She asked, her nostrils flaring up like a bull. The only thing I could do was to hold one of my hands against my cheek to calm the pain from the slap.“I hate what I sense in you,” she continued. “Gina told me that's why she brought you here.” her hand snatched my right wrist. “And I'll
GINA'S POV(A few hours earlier, before the dinner)“Mom, I felt a strong aura around her,” I said to my mother on call, while I paced around my massive bedroom, worrying about what to do next.I needed to talk to someone, and my mother was my best friend, she was the only person I trusted. I had already explained how I met Narah, and now I just wanted to hear her opinion on the matter. Her voice reverberated through the other end of the line, sounding firm but worried, “Are you sure of that?”Yes, I am one hundred percent sure,” I raved. Across the room, my reflection caught me off guard. I stood in awe, admiring my body adorned in a colourful chiffon top, and a chic black mini skirt. I was the true definition of beauty.“Why were they looking at each other the way you described, what does that mean? My mother asked, pulling me back into reality.I grimaced at the thought of Van and Narah in the Café, and replied, “I really don't know what it is about, but one thing is for sure; ther
