REINA’S POV
I recklessly parked my car, the bumper knocking over an angel statue that decorated the concrete yard. I stormed into Arthur's house and found him packing. He was shocked to see me. And then, I showed him the papers, he couldn't even deny it. Instead, his true aggressive nature sprung forth like a fountain. “Stop being so stupid,” his voice pierced through the air and straight into my heart like a poisoned dagger. “Well, Arthur I've had enough of your crap,” I snapped, throwing the papers at him. “My father was right.” As I turned to exit the room, Arthur's hand violently pulled me by the wrist, dragging me back in and slamming the door. “I haven't finished with you.” “What the fuck do you want, huh?” I asked, with furrowed brows and eyes staring deep into his. “Fucking Dahlia and getting her pregnant wasn't enough? Getting married to her behind my back wasn't enough either? Now, you're running away? Dahlia was my cousin for crying out loud. Arthur's gaze widened and instantly, he broke into a short menacing laugh. He looked up, his eyes glinting with intense hatred. He charged at me, grabbing my jaw and pushing me to the wall like a predator. “I had to put up with the insults from everyone just by being with you. I stayed because you're the Alpha’s daughter.” He whispered into my ears, “You're weak just like they say. You think anyone would want you, you wolf-less piece of shit?” I forced a wry smile and shoved his dirty hands off my face, screaming, “Get off me!” His hands raced through his hair as his eyes darted through the room, searching for a sweet lie to tell, but I wouldn't listen to it this time. “It's over. I'm done.” Arthur's face froze and I could see the despair in his eyes as they welled up with crocodile tears, a feeble attempt to mask his monstrosity. “Reina, I'm sorry.” Desperately, he went down on both knees begging and cuddling my legs as if his life depended on it. “I have bad taste in men,” I acknowledged, shaking my head, “An Alpha's daughter with a low class Omega,” I reminded him of his place before pushing him off and darting out of his house. My heart bled after breaking it off with my first love. I couldn't believe I had planned to expose Minsi and put myself in danger for that worthless piece of… I hastily got in my car. I drove off, crying all the way home as It struck me that I had no other choice now, but to accept Alpha Van's proposal. *********** Few days later. It was the day of the lunar bonding ceremony between Alpha Van and I. I sat in my room, opposite Gina with a black veil over my head as we shared a drink. She crossed her leg, bending her head slightly in order to get a good look, but I concealed myself even further behind the veil. “I am fine, truly,” I lied, “It's for the good of the pack afterall. An end to the unending rivalry.” “Sis, I bet Van probably won't be as ruthless as they say.” Gina said, taking a sip from her cup of red wine. I only shrugged. “Slow and steady, Reina, slow and steady always wins.” Minsi growled as I stared at my reflection. “The wedding is fixed and I'm sorry, sister, that nothing can be done,” Gina whispered, trying to comfort me as she patted my shoulders. She always had a way of getting to me, we became close after she saved my life from crazy Hella who tried to poison me. Hella was hunted down, though her body was never found. Some believed she succumbed to her wounds and died in the river, while others believed the rogues ate her alive. Unlike Gina, I didn't quite like Luna Tauriel, her mother. A difficult and ill-tempered woman. “The gathering is tonight, I think you could have dressed better” Gina said, setting her glass on the table beside her. I looked at my outfit, a casual flared jean trousers and a crop top. “I’m sure it's comfortable,” she added, “stay strong and if you need anything, you can always count on me.” “Thanks, sis. I couldn't have held on this long without you.” She grinned shyly and brushed her hand against my shoulder. Suddenly, the room door opened wide. Beta Daphne stood firm, her glare landing on me, she snarled. “Alpha Van of Woodwick pack has arrived.” Gina and I stared intensely at each other for a few seconds and she smiled encouragingly. She left with Beta Daphne to join the pack in the forest where the ceremony was to take place. And shortly after, I walked down as well. My racing heart moved in sync with every drum beat that resonated through the forest. Minsi was more nervous than I was. Their joyful noise swayed through the branches, yet I remained frozen at the edge of the woods, my feet rooted to the spot. Thank goodness, my best friend, Corolla, was by my side. She constantly reminded me to stay calm but under the cold night, Minsi’s sensitive nose picked up the scent of sweat and tension stemming from Corolla's skin, betraying her false composure. As the last members from my pack proceeded to join the others in the woods, a sharp feminine voice yelled out from amongst them saying, “Corolla, you're needed!” My eyes met with Corolla's and instantly I felt an emptiness brewing within. “Well, that sucks! I'm pretty sure it's either Gina or Luna Tauriel who doesn't know how much wolfsbane to add in a fucking cocktail.” she cried. “I'll be fine,” I assured her with a fake smile. “Just in case I don't come back before time, once you hear three consecutive drum beats after the torch goes up, it's your cue to come in. Just like we rehearsed,” She explained as her hands fidgeted on her thighs. I nodded and Corolla swept me in a sweet embrace before heading into the woods. She was the only friend I had. A fiery redhead with a temper as short as her height. But she's the most amazing wolf I'd ever seen. Minsi adored her. As I stood there, lost in thoughts while gazing into the woods, I let out a small yawn and then my eyes fell upon my wrist. My bracelet glistened in the moonlight. It was my mother's. She had worn it on the day of her lunar bonding ceremony with my father. Memories of her flooded my mind and a small smile curled the edges of my lips. “Who's there?” I asked almost immediately as Minsi’s keen ears caught onto the footsteps nearby. I checked the time and it was already thirty minutes since everyone left. I had been alone since then but now, someone or something was approaching through the woods a few metres from where I stood. “Who's there?” I asked again, more loud and defiantly. I could feel my wolf already preparing for a fight, but I held her back. “I'm not going to ask again. Show yourself.” I heard nothing for a few seconds. My eyes scanned through the dark woods and suddenly caught a tall figure lurking behind a tree. I could feel its piercing gaze crawling on my skin, sending shivers down my spine and my hairs stood on its ends.REINA’S POV“Who– who are– who are you?” I stuttered but I was hit with a deafening silence. The figure just stood still and watched. My eyes struggled to map out the features, but it remained concealed in the darkness. As I charged forward with one bold step, I caught a fleeting glimpse of a woman shrouded in a black hooded cloak. She dashed further and deeper, moving swiftly into the opposite direction of the woods.Minsi quickly pursued. I struggled to restrain my wolf, I had never been that weak keeping her at bay. My strength could only do so little but I managed to stop her from emerging.Something was making her rage. “That's not a wolf, Reina,” Minsi panted as we chased after the woman, scattering through the woods. She was fast. Too fast or I was just extremely slow for her.Suddenly, without warning, an overwhelming power halted me and I found myself pinned against a tree trunk.“Reina!” I heard my best friend scream.“Corolla?” I asked surprisingly as we both tried to ca
NARAH'S POV: Eighteen years later. My lungs paved way for laboured breaths as I glared straight into his hazel eyes. It was four against one but as usual, I already knew the outcome - my fate was sealed and I had resigned to it.I clutched my stomach, trying to soothe the pain but the incoming wave of wind from Jason's fist made me anxious. I ducked, but it still managed to land squarely on my already battered face.My sluggish reflexes were no match for his swift and mighty strike. With a great thud, I fell flat on my back and onto the green grass. This sent the other three laughing their fucking heads off, Crystal Belton laughed the loudest since she was the mastermind behind the whole thing. This scenario had gotten old. It was the same routine day after day, year after year and as a result of that, I had grown used to the blow and injuries they inflicted on me. It was a mundane aspect of my existence.I used to be good at hiding them but when I found out father didn't care, I stop
REINA’S POV“Narah, are you alright?” a strange girl who sat beside me asked as her hands patted my back, I laid back down and she rushed downstairs.I slowly opened my tired eyes and I was met with the sight of an unfamiliar environment, a room so small that it seemed as though the walls were gradually creeping up on me.The walls were covered with purple paint that was already peeling off. A single window dressed with shabby looking blinds, a little table and a rocking chair. The girl came back with a glass of water, and offered it to me and I thanked her.“Narah, are you alright?” She repeated. I was surprised as I couldn't recognise her. Last I recalled, I was… dead. The sudden realisation made my voice trail off into a sorrowful moan, repeatedly whispering the words, “No.” The girl was confused, she only stood and watched me. My hands ran through my hair, thinking deeply. I must have missed something. How did I die?Suddenly, I remembered Minsi. I reached out through a mind lin
NARAH'S POVThe music in the Café slowly faded into the background. The noise and bickering from the customers got quieter as I ran down memory lane, escaping this harsh reality.Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes as I stood face to face with my step-sister, Gina. She had grown even more beautiful than I recalled. Slender and taller. Her skin glowed under the hot summer sunlight that shone through the café’s glass, and her dark mane still flowed down to her waist like waterfalls. Her sultry green eyes caught mine and she frowned.“B*tch, you're going to pay for this top,” she said, squeezing my right arm. I hadn't noticed the two girls beside her until they chuckled, taking delight in how Gina treated me.This wasn't the Gina I knew. She used to be kind and sweet. I shook my head, getting over the past and accepting her for whom she was now; a betrayal.I remembered the night of the lunar bonding. Gina and I had shared a drink in my room. Poison. I am sure it was poison, and I co
NARAH'S POVAs we drove to Alpha Van’s home in a jet black SUV, I felt my heart pounding out of my chest. I was sitting next to Gina who kept stealing glances at me, every chance she got.She had left her friends at the Café on Alpha Van's orders, so they could take me to their abode.Van was sitting at the shotgun seat, not minding us at the back seat. He had his eyes fixed on the road, but twice, from the side mirror, I caught them flickering towards my direction, sending bolts of electricity through my bones. What was that? That feeling I got when I felt his eyes on me? Fate must be playing some kind of cruel joke on me after all, I thought.A couple of weeks ago, I was just an ordinary girl from a small town far away from here. I pinched my left arm and cursed underneath my breath. Deep down, I wished I had never regained the memories of my past life.“We're here.” Van's voice broke the deafening silence that once engulfed the vehicle's cabin. The gates opened wide the minute we t
ALPHA VAN'S POV(Flashback)Her grey curls and elegant presence clouded my mind, and everyone in the clearing seemed to have faded away, leaving just the two of us. My eyes stared dreamily at her.I was drawn to her. I longed for her in a way that was new to me, a way that made everything else irrelevant. My hands swiftly came out of my trouser’s pocket and nervously adjusted my tie, trying to compose myself and make me look presentable.“Mate, that's our mate, Van. That's our mate. We don't look further no more, here she is.” Curtis bubbled over with excitement, “After a hard long searches, we finally found mate.“Easy there, Curtis. Easy,” I hissed at my wolf, urging him to keep calm. She was not just a chosen mate, but a fated mate. She was ordained for me by the moon goddess, and I knew it the minute I set my eyes upon her. Her scent lingered like a ghost in my mind. She walked up to me, and her piercing blue eyes casted its gaze into mine like a gentle caress. I felt an undeniable
NARAH'S POVThe loud argument in the dining room kept everyone busy, they didn't even notice I had been standing there for a couple of minutes. My hands were fidgeting, and in the cool atmosphere, I began to feel sweat dripping down my forehead. What is Luna Tauriel doing here? I thought. She was pointing her finger at a handsome man who resembled Alpha Van, screaming, “I can come here whenever I wish. It's my daughter's home too.” I pursed my lips and fixed my gaze on her as memories of how she treated me in my past life flashed before my eyes. The big bad wolf was a name Minsi used to call her. I subconsciously giggled over the memory. My anxiety skyrocketed out the ceiling when all eyes at the dining table turned to me. Their gaze burned my skin like hot coal, melting my confidence away.I shot one quick look around the table. F**k! An empty seat right next to Luna Tauriel. Just what I needed! “Hi,” I said, waving my hand in the air awkwardly. My nervous feet managed to take me
NARAH'S POV:Luna Tauriel’s anger was evaporating into the atmosphere, seeping through the cool air and right into my pores. I was beginning to get a little annoyed, so I rolled my eyes, and asked nonchalantly,“What do you want?” “Do you know who you're talking to, you insolent child?” she said angrily. The sweet scent of Vanilla fragranced hand cream enveloped my nose, and with a deafening sound, her palms swiftly collided with my left chek.SPAK!I was dumbfounded. I knew she was evil, but I didn't take her as a woman so wicked to hit someone she barely knew. What the hell was I thinking? Of course, she'd do that, because her daughter did the exact same thing the first day we met.“How dare you?” She asked, her nostrils flaring up like a bull. The only thing I could do was to hold one of my hands against my cheek to calm the pain from the slap.“I hate what I sense in you,” she continued. “Gina told me that's why she brought you here.” her hand snatched my right wrist. “And I'll
GINA'S POV “Reina is back, she's back.” The words stumbled out of my lips, as tears filled my eyes.“This is bad, really, really bad,” Ria cowered. As I lay helplessly on the narrow metal-framed bed, staring blankly at the cold, cream-coloured walls of my prison cell, all I could think of was how I had been such a weakling and a fool.I couldn't even control my own mind and all this time, I thought I had been in control of a situation, whereas I had been a mere puppet. My father and mother had been the ones controlling my life, pulling the strings however they liked. I had my fair share of evil in my blood, but looking back, I wasn't always like this.I admitted that the first mistake I ever made was sabotaging Reina’s relationship with Arthur by setting him up with her cousin, Dahlia.I did it out of pure jealousy. I hated Reina. That was what I thought. The truth was I never hated her. No, I didn't. She was the best part of my life until she wasn't. I had the most fun with her whi
LIORA'S POV Clearly, I was overthinking it. It was a door that led to the kitchen, and maybe the maids had to use it often. Okay, maybe it was a trap. As we entered the hallway, the darkness enveloping us, panic surged through me. The air was thick with the scent of savoury dishes that clung to me like a fish on a hook. At the end of the hallway, a door stood in the center, slightly ajar. Lights flickered above, and sent shadows dancing across the walls. The distant sound of faint voices, talking over one another, escaped from behind the door, filling the creepy hallway like haunted ghosts. As we marched onward, a few feet from the door ahead, we saw another wooden door by the side of the wall, old and rugged. It felt out of place compared to the others. Though wooden, the door we had just walked through and the one ahead were made of strong oak and had fine engravings of different patterns on them. Whereas this particular door was thin and as plain as day. Nas proposed we shoul
LIORA'S POV “So this is the Moonlight territory? Not bad,” I said, impressed. “Hey, keep your eyes on the guards,” Anakiyus ordered. I wrinkled my nose in disapproval and mimicked him in a quiet, disturbing mockery of a voice, which sent Nas chuckling. “What is it?” Anakiyus asked, oblivious to the shenanigans going on behind him as we walked through the bustling street which led to the Alpha's house. “Nothing.” Nas croaked immediately. Anakiyus looked between Nas and me, his expression grim, his eyes narrowing with suspicion. As his gaze landed on me again, my shoulders rose and fell in a lazy shrug, my hands drifting up to accompany the notion, as if to say, “I swear it, I have no idea what's going on.” I flashed an innocent smile to convince him, and he still didn't buy it. He shook his head and slowly turned away, his eyes scanning the street ahead. Nas and I exchanged a quick amused glance. I let out a sigh, thanking the heavens I wasn't caught imitating the humourle
NARAH'S POV The air seemed to vibrate with tension, and I could feel the weight of Gina's gaze on me like a physical touch that made my skin crawl.“Hope you've been well?”“You're the last person I thought I'd see,” she said, her voice soft as wool.“And yet, here I am.”“Isn't it a coincidence?” I've been doing a lot of thinking. Earlier, I was just thinking about you, and guess what? I found something weird.”I cocked a brow. “Really? What did you find?”“You're not just a stinky maid. When we first met, my intuition about you was right,” she breathed slowly, savouring every word. She seemed to find it interesting, basking in her own words, like a puzzle she had just solved. “And what intuition is that?” I asked dryly. She smiled in a knowing manner. “You're wolf-less, like someone I used to know, someone who you remind me of… someone DEAD,” she said. “You see, when I was a cub, about ten years old, there was something I read in a book once that fascinated me. I dreamt about it
NARAH'S POV “The Alpha has fallen into a coma, but there's nothing wrong with him scientifically. There’s absolutely nothing I can determine,” I heard Doctor June confirm. “That's because it's a witch's enchantment,” I said, stepping into Alpha Van's room, my footsteps echoing in the stillness. They all turned back to look at me. Miss Kiara's eyes narrowed. “An enchantment?” she asked. She was sitting beside Alpha Van, her hands clasped around his. Tears had dried on her face, and her eyes had turned red as velvet. She had been away for a long time, so she definitely didn't know anything about her children or the things they were going through. “Yes, an enchantment. Alpha Van had complained about this to Doctor Rowan, and it's not new that he's been having seizures and needed medications to stay well.” The words escaped my lips freely, and I didnt even care to stop there until Kacy interrupted. “Narah's right,” she declared. “Van talks about a woman in his dreams and voices in h
GINA’S POVAs Jeremiah carried Van on his back, Beta Solomon, Kacy, Kiara, and some of the Pack guards went along with them. Jeremiah was taking him into the house, while Kacy was outside on a phone call with Doctor June. The heat of the tension pulsed through my veins. I thought Van suddenly passing out was an excellent distraction from the bone of contention—Liam and me.“What's going on?” my wolf, Ria, asked, afraid. “Gina, did you feel that? Van has broken free from the enchantment. How's that even possible?”Nothing was impossible. I was scared he would have broken free sooner, and that was why I had Chris as a backup plan, giving him those stupid magic pills to keep him in check. Although, since Van had stopped the medication, he was bound to break free from the spell sooner or later. He was tremendously strong, after all. I hated to admit that I was impressed. He whispered something to Narah while struggling to breathe. What did he say to her? At that instant, her eyes met mi
NARAH'S POV “He didn't tell you the truth?” “No, he didn't,” Sharon said, wiping her tears. I didn't expect Liam to actually tell her, but when Sharon had a slight change of mind about proceeding with the plan, I asked her to speak with Liam. If he told her the truth about him and Gina, then she could leave peacefully, as she wanted. However, since he didn't tell her, the plan was still on. The entire wedding party would have to see who the Luna had been having an affair with, and for Liam… well, he'd have to deal with his brother afterward, just as Gina would have to deal with him too. I held Sharon's hand, squeezing it gently, I said to her, “Let's go. You've tried your best to give him a chance. Whatever happens now is not your fault.” She blinked several times, fighting back tears that stung her eyes. It was time to go downstairs. The guests were already waiting, and so was the groom. The weather was nice today. The cool wind carried on peacefully, and the birds sang their
GINA'S POV Today was the day I finally gave my love away. The thought of it alone sent a shiver down my spine, and I slammed my fist on the headrest of the bed, making the frame creak in protest. “I hate my life,” I groaned sluggishly, sitting up right. Last night was f**king hell, and today was… was there anything worse than hell? If there was, you could f**king bet I was living in it. I squeezed my face at the strong stench of booze that danced particularly around me. My mouth felt parched. My tongue was sticky, tasting the lingering flavour of last night's cigarettes and alcohol, a failed attempt to drown and set my sorrows ablaze. All that alcohol doused with wolfsbane and I still couldn't get drunk. The sun filtered through the curtains, and as my eyes drifted across my room, squinting, all I could think of was how miserable my present situation was. Rufus was lying next to me. I gently stroked his fur, and he opened his eyes before shutting them again. I lazily got
NARAH’S POVMy heart was still pounding in my chest when I pulled away from Van.“I'm sorry to interrupt, but I found the gloves,” Corolla said with a knowing smirk, though her expression was vaguely flustered.I couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease settle deep within me. She was putting on a bra top, tights, and sneakers. Her red hair was tied up in a ponytail. She must have been working out with Alpha Van before I arrived.“You're not interrupting anything, Corolla,” I whispered, my breath catching in my throat. She took a step forward, her gaze never leaving mine. “I heard about your wedding. I'm sorry it went south.”I blinked, trying to steady my breath as I shook my head. “Thank you. I guess... It was for the best—”“Was it?” she interjected, her voice gentle yet firm as he stepped closer, closing the distance between us.Her scent—fruity, with a hint of something more primal—wrapped around me like a blanket, but her appearance darkened—something between concern and somethin
