NARAH'S POV: Eighteen years later.
My lungs paved way for laboured breaths as I glared straight into his hazel eyes. It was four against one but as usual, I already knew the outcome - my fate was sealed and I had resigned to it.
I clutched my stomach, trying to soothe the pain but the incoming wave of wind from Jason's fist made me anxious. I ducked, but it still managed to land squarely on my already battered face.
My sluggish reflexes were no match for his swift and mighty strike.
With a great thud, I fell flat on my back and onto the green grass.
This sent the other three laughing their fucking heads off, Crystal Belton laughed the loudest since she was the mastermind behind the whole thing.
This scenario had gotten old. It was the same routine day after day, year after year and as a result of that, I had grown used to the blow and injuries they inflicted on me. It was a mundane aspect of my existence.
I used to be good at hiding them but when I found out father didn't care, I stopped hiding the bruises and injuries. Still, he never for once asked how I got them.
“Well, you've had your fun now, Crystal,” I said, getting up from the ground. The laughing ceased immediately and Crystal laid her usual comeback,
“Oh shit! It talks.” she strutted closer and stared right into my eyes without flinching, “dirty old Narah. Bastard child of a bastard father. Useless daughter of a cunt.”
“Ok, Crystal, that's enough,” Celine intervened, grabbing her by the hand, trying to pull her back but Crystal didn't budge.
“My father said her mother was a slut and she met with a stranger known as the wolf man,” she giggled, pointing her finger accusingly at me, “it was born as a result of their sin.”
I scoffed and tiredly rubbed my eyes. Then, Harriet the empty-headed brunette chimed in from behind Jason,
“Yeah, blue eyes and grey hair. She's definitely a witch.” Her failed efforts to always suck up to Crystal only made her look more pathetic and it made me nauseous. “ I bet there–”
“Shut up, Harriet!” Crystal’s commanding voice silenced her.
After a while, they left without causing any more damage to me than they already had. Well, welcome to my life. I am Narah Smith and I was born on a night as cold as my heart. It was a full moon.
My father blamed me for the death of my mother. He said I had ripped her soul and eaten her whole during labour.
Crystal wasn't far from the truth. He wasn't my father. He was the murderer of my real father. This monster had boasted about killing my real father with a silver bullet because he wouldn't die from an ordinary one.
He cuffed me up in chains for weeks because he said he was afraid I would turn. And I feared that one day, he was going to kill me as well.
A miserable day such as this and it happened to be my 18th birthday, I didn't plan on spending the day alone.
So, I decided to ditch school to hang out with Benny, the only friend I had. No-one in Lystvair wanted to associate with me, let alone be friends, but Benny was different.
She was more than just different. In the books she buried her head, she let her thoughts and mind roam wild and free.
The herbs, and spells she casted, she brewed me a creamy, green coloured potion. She swore it would help unlock the secrets of my dreams.
Strange recurring dreams haunted my sleep since childhood and with each passing year, they grew more vivid and I couldn't tell those dreams from reality.
A grey-haired woman just like me and a fierce silver wolf chasing a dark figure in a forest. A man whom she called “mate” with another woman. But I couldn't seem to put the other pieces of the dream together.
With Benny's parents away at work in the next town, we had their tiny brick house all to ourselves.
She believed my dreams had meaning and that it could be a link to my previous life. Although I bore striking resemblance to the grey-haired woman in my dreams, I had my doubts about reincarnation and magic, even though my best friend was a witch.
I sat across from her in the kitchen, watching as she flipped through her worn pages, observing the words that danced before her with such focus.
Finally, when she seemed satisfied, she smiled and pushed a small cup towards me. With a hint of mischief sparkling in her eyes, she said,
“You can drink now.”
I furrowed my brows and asked, “you're certain?” And she answered with a reassuring nod.
I stared intensely at the old wooden cup for a few minutes and slowly picked it up. I closed my eyes and gulped the entire content down my throat.
Immediately I placed the cup back on the counter, my face writhed in the sweet-sour taste. Benny and I both laughed.
We spent the day gathering herbs. She baked me a cake and gave me a locket for a present. It had our pictures in it. I didn't believe the potion would work, although Benny told me to give it time.
We played some games and danced, just the two of us and soon, it was midnight. We squeezed together in her bed that had barely enough room to breathe, let alone move.
“Goodnight, Narah and happy birthday. I love you,” Benny grinned at me, I chuckled sheepishly and replied,
“Goodnight, Benny. I love you too.”
And that was the last thing I remembered before seeing myself at the edge of the woods standing beside the grey haired woman.
“Who– who are– who are you?” she stuttered. I could tell she was afraid but I sensed something in her that was even more terrifying than the presence watching her from the woods. She dashed into the dark woods and I followed.
“That's not a wolf, Reina, I don't know what it is but it's not one of us,” a voice cried.
“Reina?” I asked surprisingly, that was the first time I heard her name and the voice.
I watched as a red headed woman slammed her to a tree and screamed her name again, “Reina!”
The next thing I knew, I was walking behind them into an opening filled with hundreds of people. I recognised the man whom she called ‘mate’ standing in the centre, close to a burning stake.
I spotted a familiar face in the nearby woods, lurking behind a tree. It was the woman who had stood next to Reina's mate in all of my dreams. She wore a sinister smile.
“Just stay strong and if you need anything, you can always count on me,” another voice uttered and I knew it belonged to her.
“Thank you, sis…” Reina’s voice replied.
“Sis?” I asked in utter shock. These scenes in the dream were new, I was beginning to put the puzzle together.
Reina stood beside the man and I stood in front of her, piercing her with my gaze. I became shocked and paralyzed when she looked straight into my eyes, instantly seizing my wrist.
All these years, she had never noticed my presence. Suddenly, scenes blurred and unfolded around me in a rapid motion, voices yelling at
eachother, people shifting into tooth-baring wolves and I let out a terrifying scream.
REINA’S POV“Narah, are you alright?” a strange girl who sat beside me asked as her hands patted my back, I laid back down and she rushed downstairs.I slowly opened my tired eyes and I was met with the sight of an unfamiliar environment, a room so small that it seemed as though the walls were gradually creeping up on me.The walls were covered with purple paint that was already peeling off. A single window dressed with shabby looking blinds, a little table and a rocking chair. The girl came back with a glass of water, and offered it to me and I thanked her.“Narah, are you alright?” She repeated. I was surprised as I couldn't recognise her. Last I recalled, I was… dead. The sudden realisation made my voice trail off into a sorrowful moan, repeatedly whispering the words, “No.” The girl was confused, she only stood and watched me. My hands ran through my hair, thinking deeply. I must have missed something. How did I die?Suddenly, I remembered Minsi. I reached out through a mind lin
NARAH'S POVThe music in the Café slowly faded into the background. The noise and bickering from the customers got quieter as I ran down memory lane, escaping this harsh reality.Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes as I stood face to face with my step-sister, Gina. She had grown even more beautiful than I recalled. Slender and taller. Her skin glowed under the hot summer sunlight that shone through the café’s glass, and her dark mane still flowed down to her waist like waterfalls. Her sultry green eyes caught mine and she frowned.“B*tch, you're going to pay for this top,” she said, squeezing my right arm. I hadn't noticed the two girls beside her until they chuckled, taking delight in how Gina treated me.This wasn't the Gina I knew. She used to be kind and sweet. I shook my head, getting over the past and accepting her for whom she was now; a betrayal.I remembered the night of the lunar bonding. Gina and I had shared a drink in my room. Poison. I am sure it was poison, and I co
NARAH'S POVAs we drove to Alpha Van’s home in a jet black SUV, I felt my heart pounding out of my chest. I was sitting next to Gina who kept stealing glances at me, every chance she got.She had left her friends at the Café on Alpha Van's orders, so they could take me to their abode.Van was sitting at the shotgun seat, not minding us at the back seat. He had his eyes fixed on the road, but twice, from the side mirror, I caught them flickering towards my direction, sending bolts of electricity through my bones. What was that? That feeling I got when I felt his eyes on me? Fate must be playing some kind of cruel joke on me after all, I thought.A couple of weeks ago, I was just an ordinary girl from a small town far away from here. I pinched my left arm and cursed underneath my breath. Deep down, I wished I had never regained the memories of my past life.“We're here.” Van's voice broke the deafening silence that once engulfed the vehicle's cabin. The gates opened wide the minute we t
ALPHA VAN'S POV(Flashback)Her grey curls and elegant presence clouded my mind, and everyone in the clearing seemed to have faded away, leaving just the two of us. My eyes stared dreamily at her.I was drawn to her. I longed for her in a way that was new to me, a way that made everything else irrelevant. My hands swiftly came out of my trouser’s pocket and nervously adjusted my tie, trying to compose myself and make me look presentable.“Mate, that's our mate, Van. That's our mate. We don't look further no more, here she is.” Curtis bubbled over with excitement, “After a hard long searches, we finally found mate.“Easy there, Curtis. Easy,” I hissed at my wolf, urging him to keep calm. She was not just a chosen mate, but a fated mate. She was ordained for me by the moon goddess, and I knew it the minute I set my eyes upon her. Her scent lingered like a ghost in my mind. She walked up to me, and her piercing blue eyes casted its gaze into mine like a gentle caress. I felt an undeniable
NARAH'S POVThe loud argument in the dining room kept everyone busy, they didn't even notice I had been standing there for a couple of minutes. My hands were fidgeting, and in the cool atmosphere, I began to feel sweat dripping down my forehead. What is Luna Tauriel doing here? I thought. She was pointing her finger at a handsome man who resembled Alpha Van, screaming, “I can come here whenever I wish. It's my daughter's home too.” I pursed my lips and fixed my gaze on her as memories of how she treated me in my past life flashed before my eyes. The big bad wolf was a name Minsi used to call her. I subconsciously giggled over the memory. My anxiety skyrocketed out the ceiling when all eyes at the dining table turned to me. Their gaze burned my skin like hot coal, melting my confidence away.I shot one quick look around the table. F**k! An empty seat right next to Luna Tauriel. Just what I needed! “Hi,” I said, waving my hand in the air awkwardly. My nervous feet managed to take me
NARAH'S POV:Luna Tauriel’s anger was evaporating into the atmosphere, seeping through the cool air and right into my pores. I was beginning to get a little annoyed, so I rolled my eyes, and asked nonchalantly,“What do you want?” “Do you know who you're talking to, you insolent child?” she said angrily. The sweet scent of Vanilla fragranced hand cream enveloped my nose, and with a deafening sound, her palms swiftly collided with my left chek.SPAK!I was dumbfounded. I knew she was evil, but I didn't take her as a woman so wicked to hit someone she barely knew. What the hell was I thinking? Of course, she'd do that, because her daughter did the exact same thing the first day we met.“How dare you?” She asked, her nostrils flaring up like a bull. The only thing I could do was to hold one of my hands against my cheek to calm the pain from the slap.“I hate what I sense in you,” she continued. “Gina told me that's why she brought you here.” her hand snatched my right wrist. “And I'll
GINA'S POV(A few hours earlier, before the dinner)“Mom, I felt a strong aura around her,” I said to my mother on call, while I paced around my massive bedroom, worrying about what to do next.I needed to talk to someone, and my mother was my best friend, she was the only person I trusted. I had already explained how I met Narah, and now I just wanted to hear her opinion on the matter. Her voice reverberated through the other end of the line, sounding firm but worried, “Are you sure of that?”Yes, I am one hundred percent sure,” I raved. Across the room, my reflection caught me off guard. I stood in awe, admiring my body adorned in a colourful chiffon top, and a chic black mini skirt. I was the true definition of beauty.“Why were they looking at each other the way you described, what does that mean? My mother asked, pulling me back into reality.I grimaced at the thought of Van and Narah in the Café, and replied, “I really don't know what it is about, but one thing is for sure; ther
NARAH'S POVI clutched the bedsheets, my heart pounding like a bass drum, as I said to Alpha Van, “Your wife is here.”He turned his head, and his eyes landed squarely on the door, staring at it with anger. His jaw clenched, and his grip on my ankles loosened. I didn't want Gina to get the wrong idea, to think that I would go after her husband. Even though I didn't care what she thought of me, I wanted her not to see me this particular way.Alpha Van slowly and quietly walked to the door, as if he were giving his anger time to disappear. The next thing I knew, he flung the door open, and immediately, I heard Gina say,“What are you doing here?” “I should be asking you. Did your mother ask you to come here?” Alpha Van asked with disdain in his voice. There was no other person who saw Van and me except for Luna Tauriel, who had caused me to trip and sprain my ankle.“Nooooo,” Gina cried and let out a weak laugh. “My mother didn't ask me to come here. I came to call you because Doctor
ALPHA VAN’S POV“I don’t believe Gina should be allowed to roam around freely the way she is.”I raised an eyebrow, the corner of my mouth twitching into a half-smile. “I’m pretty sure she isn’t helping much by being detained either. She insisted she didn’t help Anakiyus escape.”Not that I entirely believed Gina, but she seemed sincere. “Liars be sincere until they're caught,” Curtis chimed in, his voice a low growl at the back of my mind. “All evidence proves guilty. Guards wouldn't lie.”I dismissed his voice in my head. Briefly, I glanced at Jeremiah, feeling the familiar tension between us, but he only gave me a deadpan expression. "Besides, she's not allowed to leave the estate. So, her roaming is limited," I added, trying to push the conversation to lighter ground.Jeremiah chuckled, but it was a hollow sound. A short, fanciful laugh that made my skin crawl. “The Luna is under house arrest,” he said with an exaggerated sigh. “How will the Alpha live!”I shot him a dry look. “W
NARAH’S POVOphelia’s final memories unravelled in my mind, jagged and raw, like shards of glass cutting through my consciousness. I felt everything she had. The coldness of her rage. The weight of her grief. The relentless power that surged through her as she slaughtered the entire Pack in the woods. The rogue Kings fell before her, their blood staining the earth as they crumpled in the dirt. Hendrix was last. She had saved him for last.I could feel the moment she tore his throat open with her claws—her eyes deathly cold and unwavering as his life’s blood gushed out, and the earth drank to its own satisfaction. It was a massacre, brutal and swift. She was unstoppable. The power of the silver wolf coursing through her veins made her a force no one could withstand. But what haunted me the most was how she didn’t hesitate. She didn’t flinch as she watched Hendrix’s body slump to the ground, his blood mixing with the dirt.Ophelia’s heart was a fractured thing, but she didn’t show it. A
NARAH’S POV (Still trapped in Ophelia's body, Ophelia's consciousness overpowered Narah's in this chapter, meaning everything that happened occurred exactly as it did in the past) A sort of hysterical laughter surged up in my throat, and I choked it back. I couldn't believe Hendrix's betrayal. I could taste the bile that had formed at the back of my throat as anger, frustration, and severe despair coursed through my veins. Still, I said nothing, my eyes fixated on Hendrix. He stood tall and proud at the front of the Pack, the rogue Kings behind him. I didn't know what to make of the situation. I just couldn't believe it. “Hendrix, how could you?” Jenna snapped, her brows furrowing. “Shut up, witch!” ordered one of the rogue Kings. “Hendrix has told the truth to all of us. Your atrocity is a disgrace. You are an abomination.” I listened to every word, and they rang like a tolling bell, ripping my heart out. But nothing hurt more than seeing the expression on Hendrix's face.
NARAH'S POV How would I tell Ophelia? Was there even a way for me to inform her about Hendrix’s plan? History had already taken place, and there was no way that I could change it. There was no turning back the hands of time. Just as I ran out of the cottage, the weird teleportation thing happened again, and this time, I found myself plunged into darkness. No—my eyes were closed. I just had to open them. When my eyes finally opened, I noticed I was lying on a hard, rough surface—hay, scattered around the floor like a crude mattress. My body ached all over, every muscle screaming in protest. The pain was so intense that I wondered if it was the side effect of being teleported multiple times. The confusion muddied my thoughts, and I tried to push through the agony to sit up. As I struggled to rise, a jolt of pain shot through me, more intense than before, and I collapsed back into the hay. A groan slipped from my lips. What in the world had happened to me? My mind raced as I
NARAH'S POV “What do you mean by that?” Hendrix asked, his voice calm but edged with something darker.“Only silver wolves can use the Moon Jade. I thought everyone knew that?”“Everyone? That's in the old times,” Hendrix sneered, his gaze hardening as he leaned closer to Ophelia. His fingers dug into her arms, a subtle but firm grip that made my stomach turn. “Isn’t your mate supposed to have access to the Jade? Isn’t the Jade supposed to make me powerful enough to wipe out an entire city?”His eyes turned completely dark as he spoke. His voice became awfully sinister, sending nothing but dread through me. Looking at Ophelia, the terror in her eyes and the quivering of her lips and the way her body flinched beneath his touch, I could tell he had that same effect on her.It was terrifying to watch this man who she was to marry inflict physical pain on her, and he wasn't aware that he was hurting her. Did the Moon Jade really have that kind of power, though? To annihilate entire citi
NARAH'S POV As I stood by the edge of the woods, the wind blowing through my hair, I sighed deeply. How was I supposed to know where the girls went? I was literally in the middle of nowhere. Now, the name “nowhere zone” was beginning to make sense.Suddenly, my ears picked up the rustling of leaves behind me, and I quickly turned. A man was standing right behind me, barely three feet away. Darkness shrouded his face, making me shift back in fear. Was he staring at me? I wondered. But then I noticed that he wasn't. He couldn't even see me.He was young, handsome in a way that made him seem both dangerous and alluring. His short black hair framed a sharp face, but it was the way he looked at the empty space in front of him, where the portal had been—those deep brown eyes—that told me everything I needed to know.He was a werewolf. I could feel the wolf beneath him, restless and watching, waiting for something.Wait! Had he been hiding in the trees, watching Jenna and Ophelia before the
NARAH'S POVMy heart was pounding in my chest, and my breath came in shallow bursts. I wondered how this empty room had become a forest. The nowhere zone felt more like the “not making sense” zone.Whatever it was, it was making my skin crawl and it pricked every damn nerve. Gosh! It wasn't a good feeling.“When you learn the truth, find me and defeat me. Then you can get your wolf back,” the voice echoed, its words fading into the distance like a haunting memory.“What truth am I supposed to…”Before I could finish my statement, the door slammed shut behind me. The room was plunged into complete darkness. I couldn’t see a thing any longer. Not even my own hand when I waved it in front of my face.“Please, wait, come back,” I screamed, spinning toward the door, but realising it had vanished. Then, without warning, the lights flickered back on. But this wasn’t the soft glow of overhead bulbs. It was the natural light of the morning sun, pouring through the canopy of trees that now surr
NARAH'S POV“I'll rather take a sip,” I said, looking away from James. “I'm going to take a sip, people.”I took a cup of alcohol and downed it in one gulp, feeling the burn slide down my throat. Disappointed gasps echoed around me. They’d been waiting for me to finally do a dare, to break out of my shell, but this—this wasn’t what they had in mind.“You’re getting married tomorrow, Narah,” Kacy teased, laughing. “Have fun now, while you still can.”“I knew she wouldn’t kiss him,” Sharon murmured, resting her head on my shoulder, her voice tinged with something like pity or amusement.I thought I saw the lights flickering—then they went off, only to instantly turn back on. I looked at James, his expression unreadable for a moment before he forced a smile— awkward, and tight as if he were hiding a pain only he could feel.My heart twisted.“I can't kiss a married woman. She's married already,” James said.“That's tomorrow, dude. She's not married until tomorrow,” Isolde quickly added.
GINA'S POV “You failed your father miserably. How could you?” my mother snapped, anger edging her voice, biting into her words as they struck me.The scent of her perfume filled the air, making my stomach turn. I didn't know what the f**k to say to her, or if I could even think of anything to say at all.“This is all that stupid girl's fault. That whore, Narah,” Ria groaned bitterly. Was it really Narah's fault that my life was a f**king mess? My father wouldn't even speak with me, let alone see me. I swallowed hard, the lump in my throat growing larger. What was there to say?“I'm sorry, mom...I just need more—”“More what?” “...” Panic surged through me, and my voice shuddered in my throat, locked up by fear and shock. I'd fiercely wished that I had the courage to defend myself right now, but I cowered like the coward that I was at the mention of my father.I wished I could find the f**king courage to defend myself, to scream at her that I wasn’t the one who had failed—I wasn’t t
