Lloyd ended the call and swiftly turned around.

His phone rang again as he took his first few steps. He thought Chris called again.

However, with just one glance at the incoming call, he realized it was his secretary on the line. He picked it up.

"Avery!"

"Mr. Robbins, Chris' secretary, Tara Hudson, called me. She asked about your whereabouts that night."

Chris' call had been a preliminary test of the waters, and no matter how vehemently he denied it now, Chris would likely never believe him.

"What did you say?"

"Tara is not a gullible woman to fool. They must have honed in on you by now."

Lloyd was at a loss for words.
