Hop on.” Kevin said, turning back and squatting down on the ground.

“Huh?” I asked confused as to what he was doing.

“Hop on my back. I’ll carry you to your place. Give me the directions.” he said quietly.

My mind froze and my heart beat rapidly increased.

“But but…I can walk. It’s not that bad.” I said uncomfortably staring at my knee that was now swollen severely.

“Just do what I say or I’m taking you back to my place.” he commanded.

“No! I-I we’re almost there.” I said. It’s the first time we met. I can’t just entrust myself upon him like this. Get a hold of yourself, Aiv. Don’t believe anyone you just met. I mentally warned myself, and tried getting up.

Just as I was halfway up, my ankle twisted and I bumped down on the floor again, internally squealing with pain. This is so embarrassing! I so wish I could teleport so

I looked around and noticed that my parents had a surprised expression on their faces too. Meanwhile, when I glanced at Aunt Mary, she had a huge grin on her face.“I’m good, James. How is everyone?” Kevin politely asked.“We’re doing well, my boy. Thank you for taking care of our Aiv, Kevin. We can’t thank you enough.” Uncle James genuinely remarked. He simply nodded and said something under his breathe looking at me.“We got this opportunity to meet you again though!” Uncle exclaimed.“True indeed.” Kevin grinned and walked towards Aunt Mary and pinched Cherry’s cheeks lightly.“Cherry’s asleep. She missed you so much, Kevin! But you just disappeared the oth

“….and that’s when our precious daughter here offered her favourite cheese burgers for the poor beggar. And that’s the first and the last time she’s ever given up her food for someone!” dad said, laughing even more.Everyone was still seated on the dining table while mom was cleaning up my wounds on the counter. We ate our dessert, fruity lemon tart, which I’d learned, were one of my Aunt’s many specialities. It was finger licking tasty! And my dad, on the other hand, was busy sharing my embarrassing childhood stories. At one point, I almost lost it when dad told them how I was chased by a hen for troubling her chicks and how I developed a fear of hens ever since!“How on earth was I supposed to react!? A freaking mother hen was chasing me down like it’d kill me right that instant! I was just 8 years old for god’s sake!!” I scowled, looking annoyed. We finished our supper and it was soon ti

My eyes widened and a small smile made its way up my lips. I snapped my head towards my parents and Nick and yes, they shared the same expression on their faces. Some time ago when I last checked the calendar, I think I’d figured what the special surprise for which we came here was: mom and dad’s anniversary celebration! I knew it! I so knew it! I was just hesitating whether to talk about it or not cause if Uncle and Aunt happened to not about it, they’d have felt embarrassed. So, Nick and I’d been planning a secret small celebration tonight. But oh lord, we never thought we’d be stunned instead.I smiled, it all made me feel so giddy. I loved them. I love them all so much. The place that seemed so dull and abandoned back then, now was perfectly set into what looked like a party venue. There were huge disco lights, tiny balls on the ceilings that shimmered so prettily, and the tables and chairs were perfectly arranged with a velvety

I stare at the familiar hat that hung on the cloth stand. Is this a coincidence or a reality I don’t want to face? If I’m not wrong, it is the hat the guy always wore. The guy!! It’s Kevin!!My lip parted into an expression of both hurt and shock, revolted by what hung in front of me. The feeling of disbelief and betrayal hung tale in the air, suffocating me to the point that my mind pleaded me to forget everything. It may just be a silly misunderstanding, I can’t believe I’m creating this into such an issue. Kevin must’ve gotten the same hat from somewhere. Duh! I rolled my eyes. But a part of me knew I was just trying to convince myself that it wasn’t true when in reality I know it’s the bitter truth. The hat, that’s one of a kind. It’s a leather hat made from a unique material I can’t really depict, but I know it’s his hat by the way it smells. I know it’s weird, but it gives off

I rushed toward Nana who now laid still on the cold dirty playground. My heart beat faster than I thought it could ever beat. I was scared. I was panicking really badly. My Nana should be okay. I know she is okay. She has to be okay! I grabbed her shoulders and wrapped my arms around her. “Nana! Nana! Are you alright? Nana!” I yelled, tears brimming on my eyes. Did she fall sick again? She must’ve not come here! I should’ve told Jen to look after her. How could I be so silly and selfish? Kevin hurried and carried Nana back home. I really hope her condition’s not serious. I crossed my fingers and lay by her side when the rest of the family barged in. Kevin must’ve called them, because I definitely didn’t. I was so scared that I forgot to call them. “What happened?” Dad asked worried. “I-I don’t know….” I stammered. I was in no state to speak. My voice was hoarse from all the shouting earlier. The betrayal running fresh on my mind again, making me dizzy all over again.“Hold your horses, Aivy Daivy! No need to get so worked up.” Nick responded, a little scared at my reaction.I shrugged it off and glared at Kevin once more.Dad had a grim look on his face, but he gave me a small smile when he noticed I was looking at him. It started freezing as the moon shone up above in the sky. I quickly swam towards the deck. I got on my feet and my clothes, including me sneakers, duh, were all soaked up and dripped. I’d completely forgotten I’d worn only a blue jumpsuit and I groaned. I hated this feeling. The feeling of your clothes sticking to your body.“Look at what you’ve done! I’m freaking wet because of you!” I whimpered at him, trying to get away the dress from sticking to my body. It felt so uncomfortable. And the cold breeze blowing didn’t make it any better.Kevin just smirked and wriggled his eyebrows. Ew!!“Seriously?!” I yelled as he pulled himself back on the deck. And I took that moment to push him back into the water.“Hey!” he shrieked.“Gotcha!” I burst out laughing as he splashed back into the water. He quickly swam back up and put his wet arms around me, pulling me near the

The next morning, I woke up to the sound of birds chirping right by my window. Apart from that, something had been tickling me around my arms. I groaned and opened my eyes slightly to see a baby spider running around my arm. I grunted. I would’ve been menaced by it a couple of days ago. But, I didn’t find it strange and disgusting anymore. I was used to watching it crawl down on its web and wander around our house. It still freaked the hell out of Nick though. He hated how it tickled every time it landed on his arms.I waited till the little spider walked away from my arm and webbed its way down and snuggled back in my bed, holding my blanket closer, and buried my head in my pillow. “Winter is coming.” I chanted in a barely audible mumble. I dismissed the weird thoughts circling my mind and asked him to come in. He threw his hat on my bed and turned to face me.“Aiv.” he said gently, grabbing both my shoulders with his huge hands. He took a deep breath in and cleared his throat.“Look, whatever it is we’re dealing with right now. I promise I’ll never break our promise. I came here to assure you that. Alright? We’ll tell you everything when we’re ready. I don’t think you’ll be able to handle it in the current situation. So, please trust us for the time being, Aiv.” he clarified looking through my eyes. He looked genuine. His eyes looked so innocent. His emerald eyes shone in the sunlight coming from the curtains, they almost looked unbelievable. Everything about him seemed so perfect!“I know, Kevin. My mom can never hurt me. I trust you enough for that, too. But, I don’t know where we’re headed. Things have been strange

“Aiv. We … It’s nothing, honey. We were just discussing some stuff. It’s not that important.” mom said and diverted her gaze outside the window. “Mom, if I’m not mistaken, I definitely heard you take my name. And mom, I also heard you tell Kevin not to tell me anything. Wouldn't it be better if you tell me now so I wouldn’t have to find out later?” “It’s nothing like that, Aiv. We will tell you when the time’s correct. But you shouldn’t know of it now. You may get in danger.” Kevin huffed from beside me. He was holding something in his hand, but I couldn’t see it, since his hands are so big it could hide anything that’s placed in his palms. “I agree with him, dear. It’s not the time yet. Let’s end our discussion here.” mom said, leaning against the window and folding her arms across her chest. My mom, she’d always been so assertive. Once she made a decision, we must stick by it. “Does this even make sense? I’m the one who’s supposed to be annoyed here

“Mom, what’s starting? What are you talking about?” I asked.“Nothing. Get some rest, dear.” she said, fiddling with her fingers and quickly got out of the room.“Nick, did you hear what mom said?” I asked Nick and he just shrugged and sat near the old wooden window. What’s starting? What was mom so nervous about? I have never seen her like this before.I tried to get up from the bed but a blinding pain ripped through my neck. I fell down on the floor, clutching my neck tightly.“Aiv!” Nick shrieked and sprinted across the floor. “What do you think you’re doing? You’re supposed to rest!” he scolded and gently pulled me up.“Ow!” I screamed in agony. I couldn’t say anything but yell, the pain was just too much. I slowly laid on the bed and decided to keep my hand there because it was somehow easing my pain.“Did I fall d

He followed my gaze and realised he had been holding my wrist for too long and he slowly loosened his hold.“Oh sorry …” he mumbled in his deep voice. So, he knew how to apologize to someone, too? Fascinating. I thought and chuckled.“Umm … well the others rushed towards the small cottage over there. Uncle George took the jeep so we didn’t know where else to go.” I pointed towards the cottage’s direction and tried to change the topic.“Yeah I heard. So I rushed here but I couldn’t find anyone. “Nick! Cherry! Come over for some snacks!” Mom shouted, grilling the chickens and placing the already prepared ones on the melamine plates. We often served savoury chickens during family picnics. We’d always been a huge fan of mom’s recipe. It’s amazing how she made it so juicy and tender every time. I opened the homemade barbecue sauce and poured it on all of the plates placed on the table.“Smells good!” Nick exclaimed and reached for a plate. “Yum! This is heaven!”Mom grinned and placed a few more chicken on his plate. Cherry took a big bite of the chicken and jumped up and down, clearly loving the chicken and I giggled. Mom handed the rest of the plates to dad and Nana and they ate in peace, reliving their memories together.“I’ll serve myself.” I said and put five pieces of it on my plate. I took a huge bite of the chicken and I could already feel it melting inside my mouth.&ld
