“Your hottie?” her dance partner repeated. His voice was deep and soothing. It sent chills down her spine. She looked over and saw he wore a small smile on the edges of his lips.
Sam gave him a nervous one in return as her heartbeat beat dangerously erratic. “She said it, not me. That’s Wallflower,” she told him, trying to sound normal even though on the inside she was close to freaking out. With a dismissive shrug to help demonstrate how “normal” she felt, Sam, rushed over to Tabby. As soon as she reached the bar her friend handed her a small shot glass filled with a brownish liquid.
“Bottoms up,” Tabby told her and Sam gave her a nervous smile taking the glass. She hoped that whatever it was in the glass would drown out the insecurities that were screaming at her to run to safer waters. They sounded a lot like her father and her ex claiming she was ‘only making a fool of herself.’ Sam knew she was having fun before and she wasn’t ready for the fun to end.
“Thanks…Wallflower,” Sam replied with a small mischievous grin and Tabby looked at her confused then smiled.
“Yeah, that’s me, Wallflower!” Tabby cheered, lifting her drink before downing it. Sam picked up her own and followed suit. It wasn’t like the layered drink from before; this was hot and burned on the way down. She coughed as her eyes watered. “Another,” her friend demanded as she handed her another shot glass. Sam lifted the drink and she felt someone lean in towards her from behind, she turned to see that it was her dancing partner.
“For a wildcat, you don’t seem to be that much of a drinker,” he whispered in her ear with a tone that suggested he was flirting with her instead of being condescending as she first thought. Her heart started racing again and her stomach nearly jumped up through her throat. She downed the drink she was holding with more ease this time and forced a smile on her face as she turned to look at him.
“I make it up in other things,” she replied in an attempt to sound sexy and gave him her best attempt at a flirty smile but instantly regretted it. She must’ve sounded like an idiot. To her surprise, he returned the smile and took a step towards her.
“Oh really and what things would that be exactly?” he asked leaning on the bar giving her a heated look. Sam’s heart raced even faster, her breaths quickened and her blood seemed to have grown impossibly warm.
“Now it wouldn’t be any fun if I told you that now would it,” she said, surprising herself. What the hell is in these drinks? Never in her life had she been so forward. Her breath caught in her throat as he wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her against him.
“No, I guess it wouldn’t be,” he answered with a look that no man had ever given her before. Sam’s mouth went dry and she felt close to a cardiac arrest when he lowered his face closer to hers. His lips were about to touch hers when she felt a wave of panic hit her. Sam quickly backed away. It had been nearly five years since she had been with a man but still, this feeling was something else. Her heart raced wildly, she was panting as if she’d just ran a marathon and so hot that she felt she’d burst in flames at any moment.
She looked back up at him nervously and saw that he was still looking at her intently. A blush crossed her cheeks as the feeling of embarrassment ate at her. This weekend was about fun and letting loose, not being her usual cowardly self. “I think I would like to dance some more.”
“Sure,” he replied with a small smile and a nod. As he took her hand a small wave of relief washed over her. Maybe she hadn’t ruined the night after all? Sam’s breath caught in her throat again when he pulled her against him till there was no space between them as they danced. She swallowed nervously as her whole body responded to his closeness. Goosebumps and shivers ran across her, despite the incredible heat that seemed to pool throughout all her body as one of his hands slowly moved along her back to rest on the back of her shoulder.
Once more the entire club seemed to have disappeared as they danced and the longer they danced the more Sam’s body begged to be closer to him, something that terrified her as much as excited her. He suddenly took a hold of her chin for her to look up at him and Sam tried with extreme difficulty to swallow. His face lowered towards hers once more and this time she felt powerless to pull away from him.
He stopped with his lips closely next to hers and Sam’s mind screamed at him to close the distance, but she remained frozen unable to move a single inch. After a few excruciating seconds passed he finally closed the distance between them giving her a soft yet intense kiss. Sam melted against him and if he wasn’t holding her, she probably would’ve collapsed. Desire consumed her like nothing she had ever felt before as she returned the kiss and opened her mouth to deepen their kiss.
The man pressed her against him even more as he explored her mouth with passion. A soft moan escaped her as she held onto his jacket for dear life; she no longer knew what was up or down. Just when she was sure she was going to blackout from lack of oxygen the kiss ended. Sam looked up at him and was surprised by the look of lust upon his face. He gave her a small sexy smile and she felt heat pooled in her abdomen.
They started to dance again; she didn’t even realize they had stopped. He held her up against him tightly with one hand on her upper back while the other cupped her bottom. She had her arms up around his neck with her head resting on his chest. She was enjoying herself, but the turmoil of hormones and unfamiliar wanton desires were frustratingly left her unsatisfied. She had never felt this aroused before in her life. The guy had to be some kind of walking pheromone.
He leaned down towards her once more and she looked at him with curiosity. “Want to go somewhere more private, Wildcat,” he whispered huskily.
Sam just stared at him not sure if she heard him correctly. Did he just seriously ask her that? He wanted to sleep with her? Her?
Sam nibbled her bottom lip, not sure what to say, her body was screaming yes but her rational brain was reminding her that she’d never done anything like that before, she didn’t even know his name! For once in her life, Sam threw rationality to the wind. This trip was about letting loose, besides what could it hurt? Why not do something crazy for once? Tomorrow she was going back to Green River anyway.
“I would love to,” she replied. Her dance partner smiled as if he had just won the lottery and took her by the hand, leading her out of the nightclub. She smiled giddily as he held her tightly in front of him while he hailed a cab, she felt like something precious. He bent down trailing kisses down her neck and she leaned against him with a shiver of anticipation. Her smile grew when she felt the hard proof that he was as turned on as she was. His grip around her waist tightened as she couldn’t stop from pressing her hips back against him. He moaned softly tangling his fingers in with hers and Sam’s smile was so big now it nearly hurt.
He hailed a cab and once they were inside he gave the cab driver an address, pulling her closer to him. He cupped her face with his hand lowering his face towards hers to give her another intense kiss that had Sam unable to think of anything more than what a great kiss it was. She wasn’t sure how they managed to continue the kiss till they reached their destination but when it ended she felt breathless yet again.

As they got out, Sam tried not to ignore the sly smile the cab driver gave them. Her partner held out his hand to help her out of the car. Sam took it, unable to believe what she was about to do. She, Samantha Peters, was going to sleep with a guy she just met, a guy whose name she didn’t even know!
The man wrapped his arm around her waist and the other took her hand softly as he guided her into the luxurious hotel. Sam inwardly laughed, noticing he kept at least one hand on her hip at all times. Even to open the hotel door he used only one hand. She was sure he had to be even drunker than she was.
As soon as the door closed behind them, Sam gasped as he pinned her against the wall with his body. “Now where did we leave off,” he said gruffly and she smiled nervously. Another lustful look passed through his face just before he kissed her again, this time it was hungry and insistent. Sam wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled herself up against him. His hands ran down her sides and cupped her bottom before he lifted her off the floor. She wrapped her legs around his waist and tangled her fingers into his soft hair.
Sam kissed him back with all that she had; wanting to make this a memorable night for him as she was sure it was going to be for her. He let a low long moan and wrapped his arms around her pulling her from the wall and towards the bed. She felt heady with arousal as he set her down on the bed. He kissed her neck with soft but persistent kisses as he started removing her dress.
“You’re incredible you know that Wildcat,” he told her as his hands slowly inched his way up her sides making Sam’s body ignite with pleasure in a way that she had only read about in books. Though self-consciousness tried to taint the evening. It was gone as soon as Sam saw the heated look he was giving her. He kissed her again, removing his clothes this time.
Sam ran her hands over the man’s bare chest with the unfamiliar need to touch every part of him. She had never felt the need to touch someone like that before and a playful smile crossed her face as she could hear his breath quicken the lower her hands went. He pulled her against him and kissed her with another ravishing kiss. She couldn’t stop herself from rubbing up against him like a cat in heat. Even though they were up against each other, Sam felt like it wasn’t enough. She had to get closer though she had no idea how it would be possible.
He removed the rest of his clothing and they joined their bodies with a heated passion. It hadn’t been her first time by a long shot but never had her ex made her feel this way in all the times they had made love.
Sam stretched as she woke the next morning. She felt more rested and relaxed than she had in a long time despite a raging headache assaulting her. Sam slowly opened one eye but closed it quickly as the rays of sunlight were like knives stabbing into her brain. She groaned quietly burying her head in her pillow when a hand that wasn’t hers brushed her thigh.
“You’ve got to be kidding me!” Sam exclaimed, feeling light-headed. “Are you sure?” Sam grabbed the edge of the sink as the world was starting to tilt.“Of course I’m sure Sam,” Tabby told her with a sly smile. Sam glared at her friend.
The day passed quickly and it appeared her plan was working to perfection. She hadn’t had to speak to or see David Andrews again. She glanced at her wristwatch and saw it was time for lunch. “Thank God the first part is over,” Sam mumbled as she got up from her chair and grabbed her purse. She made a mad dash for the door to only run into a large wall of muscle halfway there. She started to lose her balance and someone held on to her waist preventing her from falling.
“I still don’t see why you have to go all the way to Illinois to work,” David’s mother complained twisting the cloth napkin in her hands and David’s father took his wife’s hand in his. He gave her a kiss on the back of her palm and the worry in her face decreased enormously.
“Your hottie?” David asked and she turned to face him. Her cheeks were bright pink, turning red. She gave him a nervous smile that made his heart skip a beat. “She said it, not me. That’s Wallflower,” she told him with a soft musical voice that made his heart race even faster. Wallflower, he repeated in silently wondering about the nicknames before he noticed that she was nearly at the bar. With a slight sense of panic, he rushed over to where she was. He didn’t want to let her get too far away from him and allow the chance for some other man to step in and take her away.
As soon as the door was shut he pinned her against the wall with his body, his desire was just too great, he needed to kiss her again now. “Now where did we leave off,” he asked gruffly and another sexy smile crossed her lips that just increased his lust. He crashed his lip against hers and she wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling herself against him. David let his hand slowly run down her sides till he reached her hips.
David arrived in Illinois but had a hell of a time trying to find the little town of Green River, not even his cab driver knew where it was. Nearly three hours after he had landed he finally found the tiny town and his even smaller hotel. After he had called his parents to let them know he was in Green River, David collapsed on the small hard bed, exhausted. The evening was setting in and even though he had barely eaten the whole day the only thing he wanted to do was try to get some sleep.
“I…I…am not running off! I am just leaving for lunch,” she said, her voice still rough and it was threatening his control. He had a couple of ideas of what she could do for lunch and none of them had to do anything with eating food. Snap out of it, David scolded himself. He couldn’t screw it up by acting like a hormonal teenager.
Now two more days had passed and Sam sat on the black sofa staring out the window watching the morning pass once more feeling depressed. Her Christmas break was nearly over and she would have to return to Illinois in a couple of days causing her to be torn. She didn’t want to go back and leave David. Just the idea made her sink into depression even more. Here she was perfectly happy but she loved school and she didn’t want to just throw the year away. She took another drink from her cup and chewing on her bottom lip lost in deep thought. “You’re looking way too serious too early in the morning,” David teased coming into the room and sitting next to her, wrapping his arms around her waist and resting his chin on her shoulder.“What are you doing up so early?” She asked him and kissed him on the cheek.
The hallway to the apartment of David’s parent’s home felt like death row to Sam, each step forward was bringing her closer to her atrocious death. She smoothed over the skirt of her dress nervously wondering if she made the right choice of clothing, or if her hair should have been pulled up instead of left down, and so many other questions ran through her mind.“Remember to breathe Sam,” David told her with a teasing smile as he knocked on his parent’s door and Sam gave him a weak smile. His mother opened the door. She had the same color of hair and eyes as David, she was elegantly dressed, and to put it simply she was breathtakingly beautiful. The woman smiled at David but when she noticed Sam, her smile grew.Next thing Sam knew the woman had swallowed her in a tight hug and kissed her on the cheek. “Why she is beautiful i
Sam sat on the leather couch holding the warm cup of coffee in her hands, looking out the large window in front of her, watching the sunrise. She took a drink from the cup smiling remembering the last few days. It had been the best in her life by far. Mark had proposed to Tabby when they had gone out for last night for Christmas Eve. She was the reason Sam was up so early, Tabby had called her at five in the morning to tell her the news.Sam smiled again, thinking of the conversation, as she took another drink of her coffee. She hoped it would help calm her nerves, today they were going over to David’s parent’s house for Christmas. Sam was running through possible ways to get out of it, she was sure they’d hate her for what she did to their son, and she was still sure the incident in the kitchen wasn’t going to help her case any.Taking
The trip to his apartment never seemed longer, as David glanced over towards Sam. He couldn’t believe she was sitting right next to him and he was going to take her home. His blood was boiling and his body was burning when they got to his apartment. As soon as he closed the door he pulled her against him and he trailed desperate kisses down her neck wrapping one arm around her waist and the other hand buried itself in her beautiful brown hair. She giggled quietly.“You’re not even going to show me your apartment first?” she asked him teasingly with a rough, husky voice, God how he missed that sound.“There is only one room you need to see right now,” He told her picking her up and tossing her over his shoulder. She screamed in surprise.“Oh God, David what are you doing?&rdq
David stood out of the club, surprised by how nervous he was. Mark had already gone in, but David still stood on the sidewalk. He took a deep breath in an attempt to calm himself and entered the crowded club. It didn’t take long for David to find Sam among the crowd. His heart stumbled at the sight of her. She was at a table talking to the Pansey. David rubbed his still sore jaw while he watched the two. When he caught Robert’s eye, the other man gave him a small nod. Just as they planned, he made some kind of excuse to leave Sam.David frowned, watching with jealousy as she pleaded with Robert to stay then looked hurt when he refused. It was easy to see she wasn’t the same woman he’d first met in this club. She was paler and thinner than he remembered, with a general air of defeat about her. Slowly he managed to get himself walking towards her when she suddenly got up,
When Sam finally woke it was already late in the morning. She stretched then rolled over onto her stomach still not ready to get up. She knew as soon as she did, everyone was going to be telling her to talk to David. Why did every friend she have want to butt in her life and tell her what she should do? Couldn’t she just be left alone to do as she wished? Sam frowned when a knock on the door answered her.Speak of the devil she thought sourly and she turned her head away from the door with no intention of opening it. Just a few more hours. She only needed a few more hours then she would be ready to deal with her friends. Snuggling into the pillow, Sam proclaimed it her new best friend with a smile on her face. The knocking ceased and Sam sang victory bringing the blankets to her chin, that was until her door opened and Robert walked in.She stared a
“Why the hell do you give a damn?” David demanded. Honestly, he wasn’t sure how to answer him.Robert frowned at him, looking displeased which pleased David just fine.“Well David, Samantha loves you,” Robert said with the same casualness Tabby had used.David stood there too shocked to say anything.“Unfortunately she is too scared of your reaction and losing you all over again to actually come here and tell you so herself,” Robert finished.Still surprised by what he said, David let his anger answer for him. “So basically she is a chicken shit coward and sent her boy toy to do the dirty work?”“Watch it,&rdq
David sat on the sofa looking out at the city skyline with an untouched beer in his hand. After that lunch, with Tabby, he’d stopped using women as a distraction. Seeing the hurt he was causing was all he needed to realize the horrible person he was turning into. With a newfound determination, he made himself forget about Sam and he thought he had successfully done it until he accidentally heard Tabby talking with Mark. She was sounded so excited that David couldn’t help but listen in. He couldn’t believe how those few simple words, “Sam’s coming to New York,” had affected him.David came to realize he hadn’t even come close to moving on. Despite his anger, he couldn’t help but feel a small hope that she was coming to see him too. But as always with Sam, she was nothing but betrayal and pain he realized as Tabby m
The restaurant looked nice, which didn’t surprise Sam any, Tabby always had good taste. They sat at the table the waiter led them to. Tabby and Robert chatted away, they seemed to get along very well, but Sam wasn’t listening. She was lost in her thoughts while she looked out the window of the restaurant, remembering that fateful weekend that had brought her and Tabby to the city for the first time.It seemed like a lifetime ago and she wasn’t the same person anymore. That carefree and happy Sam was gone and replaced by the worried and guilt-ridden Sam, who wasn’t sure if she could remember what being happy was like anymore. Her thoughts turned to David, she wondered as she had done so many times before. Where he was, what he was doing, who was he with? She felt her pulse quicken as she thought he could be possibly any one of the people that busily rushed past by the window.
