“I…I…am not running off! I am just leaving for lunch,” she said, her voice still rough and it was threatening his control. He had a couple of ideas of what she could do for lunch and none of them had to do anything with eating food. Snap out of it, David scolded himself. He couldn’t screw it up by acting like a hormonal teenager.
Sam shifted her salad around with her fork. Her stomach demanded food but when she ate a few bites, it threatened to return them. She sighed and glanced around the dinner. Everyone, there was eyeing them and talking in hushed whispers. She could only imagine what they must be saying about her. It would only be a matter of time before her father found out. God if she could only turn back time to Saturday night and stop herself from going to that club.
Her father looked her over, his expression never softening. “You do look a little pale,” he said then narrowed his eyes. “You didn’t take anything while in New York did you?”“Take anything?” Sam repeated confused then her eyes widened. &ldquo
“Look, Sam, I know you’re not going to believe me but I think this is seriously a good thing,” Tabby told her as they ate.Sam made an obnoxious snort as she rolled her eyes.
Sam handed the papers to him once again. As he reached for them his hand brushed against hers, making her heart jolt again. He grinned at her, which did nothing to help her cardiac rhythm, before looking over the papers.“If you do not need anything else, Mr. Andrews,” Sam said as she stood. She smoothed down her skirt ready to get the hell out of there.“I was hoping you would go over these papers with me,” he said, glancing up at her. “Seeing as I’m new, it would help for someone familiar with the accounts to help me get acquainted with them as well.”She very much doubted he would need her help, but again, she didn’t think she could refuse. With another tight smile, she sat back down. “Of course.”&ldqu
Sam sat on the couch, trying to solely focus on rebuttoning her blouse. However, she couldn’t help but glance around at the mess she and David had made of her living room. Embarrassment filled her. What was getting into her? She had never been so out of control before. It was like when David kissed her, she became his puppet to do with as he pleased. Worse yet, she would beg him to do it.Feeling David’s eyes on her, Same asked, “Why do you do that?”He chuckled and she glanced over at him. The corners of his mouth were turned up into a hint of an arrogant grin and her body tensed, growing warmer by the second.“Do what?” he dared to ask.Trying to ignore her libido, Sam replied, “You know very well what.
Dan’s Bar was crowded as Sam pushed her way through the crowd to the table where Tabby and the others sat. She sat down at the table trying to ignore as much as possible David’s presence. “Hey Sam, how ya do’in,” Stephanie said, nearly beaming at her. Stephanie was the company’s website designer and managed everything that was done online.“Hey Stephanie,” Sam replied feeling a little surprised at how warmly Stephanie greeted her. She sat down and eyed Adam, who didn’t share Stephanie’s enthusiasm. Adam was another accountant at her father's company and Sam thought if anyone was a bigger goody two shoes than her it was without a doubt, Adam.“What do you want to drink, Sam? It’s on me so get whatever you want.” Stephanie started waving over a waitress.
Veronica Ramirez was one of those women who had all the right things in all the right places and she knew how to use it to get what she wanted. So if Veronica wanted David, she would get him and that would make him finally leave her alone! Sam watched Veronica walked over to his side with a strange mixture of jealousy and hope. “It’s nice to meet you, David,” Veronica said as she walked over slowly exaggerating every movement she made till she was by his side.Sam felt pride bubble up inside her as she realized that even drunk she didn’t stoop to such slutty tactics to get his attention. With a seductive look on Veronica’s face, she gently leaned against him and Sam focused her attention on her drink, her pride gone and the battle against feeling jealous lost. Veronica whispered something in his ear and Tabby was glaring at her disdainfully.
The next morning Sam woke up slowly, with her eyes still closed she snuggled into her pillow. Curious as to what time it was, she slowly forced her eyes open. Her breath hitched in her throat when she realized she wasn’t in her bedroom. After a second of panic, Sam remembered going to David’s apartment. He’d ordered take out from the town’s newest restaurant and only Chinese restaurant, but it didn’t take long before they ended up in his bedroom. She carefully turned around and glance at David, who was still sleeping. A smile forced its way onto her face and there was no denying to herself now, she had fallen for him. He wasn’t only incredibly sexy, but she relaxed completely when she was around him and could be herself. Also, Sam enjoyed his company immensely, strangely even when he was irritating the hell out of her. Honestly, now that she thought about her life before
Now two more days had passed and Sam sat on the black sofa staring out the window watching the morning pass once more feeling depressed. Her Christmas break was nearly over and she would have to return to Illinois in a couple of days causing her to be torn. She didn’t want to go back and leave David. Just the idea made her sink into depression even more. Here she was perfectly happy but she loved school and she didn’t want to just throw the year away. She took another drink from her cup and chewing on her bottom lip lost in deep thought. “You’re looking way too serious too early in the morning,” David teased coming into the room and sitting next to her, wrapping his arms around her waist and resting his chin on her shoulder.“What are you doing up so early?” She asked him and kissed him on the cheek.
The hallway to the apartment of David’s parent’s home felt like death row to Sam, each step forward was bringing her closer to her atrocious death. She smoothed over the skirt of her dress nervously wondering if she made the right choice of clothing, or if her hair should have been pulled up instead of left down, and so many other questions ran through her mind.“Remember to breathe Sam,” David told her with a teasing smile as he knocked on his parent’s door and Sam gave him a weak smile. His mother opened the door. She had the same color of hair and eyes as David, she was elegantly dressed, and to put it simply she was breathtakingly beautiful. The woman smiled at David but when she noticed Sam, her smile grew.Next thing Sam knew the woman had swallowed her in a tight hug and kissed her on the cheek. “Why she is beautiful i
Sam sat on the leather couch holding the warm cup of coffee in her hands, looking out the large window in front of her, watching the sunrise. She took a drink from the cup smiling remembering the last few days. It had been the best in her life by far. Mark had proposed to Tabby when they had gone out for last night for Christmas Eve. She was the reason Sam was up so early, Tabby had called her at five in the morning to tell her the news.Sam smiled again, thinking of the conversation, as she took another drink of her coffee. She hoped it would help calm her nerves, today they were going over to David’s parent’s house for Christmas. Sam was running through possible ways to get out of it, she was sure they’d hate her for what she did to their son, and she was still sure the incident in the kitchen wasn’t going to help her case any.Taking
The trip to his apartment never seemed longer, as David glanced over towards Sam. He couldn’t believe she was sitting right next to him and he was going to take her home. His blood was boiling and his body was burning when they got to his apartment. As soon as he closed the door he pulled her against him and he trailed desperate kisses down her neck wrapping one arm around her waist and the other hand buried itself in her beautiful brown hair. She giggled quietly.“You’re not even going to show me your apartment first?” she asked him teasingly with a rough, husky voice, God how he missed that sound.“There is only one room you need to see right now,” He told her picking her up and tossing her over his shoulder. She screamed in surprise.“Oh God, David what are you doing?&rdq
David stood out of the club, surprised by how nervous he was. Mark had already gone in, but David still stood on the sidewalk. He took a deep breath in an attempt to calm himself and entered the crowded club. It didn’t take long for David to find Sam among the crowd. His heart stumbled at the sight of her. She was at a table talking to the Pansey. David rubbed his still sore jaw while he watched the two. When he caught Robert’s eye, the other man gave him a small nod. Just as they planned, he made some kind of excuse to leave Sam.David frowned, watching with jealousy as she pleaded with Robert to stay then looked hurt when he refused. It was easy to see she wasn’t the same woman he’d first met in this club. She was paler and thinner than he remembered, with a general air of defeat about her. Slowly he managed to get himself walking towards her when she suddenly got up,
When Sam finally woke it was already late in the morning. She stretched then rolled over onto her stomach still not ready to get up. She knew as soon as she did, everyone was going to be telling her to talk to David. Why did every friend she have want to butt in her life and tell her what she should do? Couldn’t she just be left alone to do as she wished? Sam frowned when a knock on the door answered her.Speak of the devil she thought sourly and she turned her head away from the door with no intention of opening it. Just a few more hours. She only needed a few more hours then she would be ready to deal with her friends. Snuggling into the pillow, Sam proclaimed it her new best friend with a smile on her face. The knocking ceased and Sam sang victory bringing the blankets to her chin, that was until her door opened and Robert walked in.She stared a
“Why the hell do you give a damn?” David demanded. Honestly, he wasn’t sure how to answer him.Robert frowned at him, looking displeased which pleased David just fine.“Well David, Samantha loves you,” Robert said with the same casualness Tabby had used.David stood there too shocked to say anything.“Unfortunately she is too scared of your reaction and losing you all over again to actually come here and tell you so herself,” Robert finished.Still surprised by what he said, David let his anger answer for him. “So basically she is a chicken shit coward and sent her boy toy to do the dirty work?”“Watch it,&rdq
David sat on the sofa looking out at the city skyline with an untouched beer in his hand. After that lunch, with Tabby, he’d stopped using women as a distraction. Seeing the hurt he was causing was all he needed to realize the horrible person he was turning into. With a newfound determination, he made himself forget about Sam and he thought he had successfully done it until he accidentally heard Tabby talking with Mark. She was sounded so excited that David couldn’t help but listen in. He couldn’t believe how those few simple words, “Sam’s coming to New York,” had affected him.David came to realize he hadn’t even come close to moving on. Despite his anger, he couldn’t help but feel a small hope that she was coming to see him too. But as always with Sam, she was nothing but betrayal and pain he realized as Tabby m
The restaurant looked nice, which didn’t surprise Sam any, Tabby always had good taste. They sat at the table the waiter led them to. Tabby and Robert chatted away, they seemed to get along very well, but Sam wasn’t listening. She was lost in her thoughts while she looked out the window of the restaurant, remembering that fateful weekend that had brought her and Tabby to the city for the first time.It seemed like a lifetime ago and she wasn’t the same person anymore. That carefree and happy Sam was gone and replaced by the worried and guilt-ridden Sam, who wasn’t sure if she could remember what being happy was like anymore. Her thoughts turned to David, she wondered as she had done so many times before. Where he was, what he was doing, who was he with? She felt her pulse quicken as she thought he could be possibly any one of the people that busily rushed past by the window.
