Max took out his light and shined it in the room. The shadow moved again in the corner. “My name is Max Anderson. I am a detective with the Highlands police department. I am also married to Deanna Watson. I need you to show yourself and keep your hands up.”
Max knew these people probably only the basics of things. He spoke calmly and knew someone else probably wouldn’t be able to get through to the people in the room. He had the key to most of the family’s secrets and that was his tiny wife. Her name was known to almost everyone they had found even the smaller children.
“Deanna?” One of them asked softly. The Shadow moved closer still hugging the wall. Max knew his light wouldn’t reach the corner of the room but he had said the magic words when bringing up Deanna. This was her family after all. Whatever had gone
Max led the younger ones out of the room into the darkened room and then out into the main room. He didn’t stop though. He continued up the stairs looking in back of him to make sure all were still following him. A few other officers were there helping him herd the boys up the stairs now. He smiled at the two infants in his arms. He saw the daylight and could hear the people right by the opening.Soon he was leading everyone out of the maze. He turned to see the group he had left had moved closer to the maze and was out of everyone’s way. Deanna was the first to notice him. Her eyes went wide as she saw what was in his arms. She nearly ran over as she made her way over to him. She saw the trail of children behind him.“My god.” She said as she took one of the boys out of his arms. She was glancing over the boys. “How are they still here?”
All of the officers helped get the boys on the bus. Max didn’t know where it was going to take them and honestly he didn’t care. He had seen that look in grown men many times when he had questioned killers. Something wasn’t right. He looked over to the people standing by his children. “You didn’t say anything about the boys.”“I didn’t see any boys.” Mitsuhide said as he looked over the other man. Mitsuhide understood the question for what it really was. Max had to question everything and now he was in the spotlight. “I only saw grown men and women, Max.”“Then what was he talking about with the chat rooms and being picked?” Max asked out loud. “What was done to them that they could go from innocent to blood thirsty lunatics?”“Max.&r
He sighed again as he looked at the wall. The room was only seen if the light was on. It was off to the side of the hallway. It had been near where Deanna would have been if she had made it all the way down the stairs. He looked around him and motioned to the officers that were standing there. He pressed on the wall. The door popped open and he was glad he had at least figured out the way to open their secret rooms. That seemed to be the easiest part of dealing with them. The doors were almost all the same. The light was so bright in the room. He looked into it and didn’t see anyone though. He did however see the monitors that lined the walls. He walked in and could see the topside of where he was. He had to think to himself, “Of course they had cameras everywhere.”He shook his head as he could identify different places in the yard an
The three girls were dressed exactly the same as two of them were standing in the middle of the maze. The two that were standing there were in what looked to be white robes that were stained red. One girl was wearing the same but she was laid in front of the two in a planter. The smiles on the two that were standing as they looked at the camera would normally suggest they were happy and celebrating. However the picture around them spoke to more of what it was. Deanna looked at the picture and almost fell to the ground. She couldn’t remember that day but she remembered playing in the maze before she hated it. She thought she had made it all up. The other versions of herself. She had thought they were just things she had made up in her mind. She only had flashes of the maze and them.“Go away.” Deanna said as she stumbled away from them.
Deanna made it to the front of the house. When she felt another kick from the baby. She rested her hands there for a minute and looked down. This baby was supposed to the first in something that was better. Max had shown her more love than anyone else. She knew what he thought. She was like his brother. She had killed her own sister. He wouldn’t believe her when she told him if she ever got the chance too. He had made up his mind already. The pain was washing over her again. It was everywhere. Her family finally got the best of her. She would never be any different than them. The baby would be better off with him. She would ruin it. She felt the burning in her chest again. She found it hard to breathe. She knew everything would be better without her there. It was all because of her. Everything bad her family did was
As soon as they got to the hospital the doctors did a quick exam. They began to rush her up to have a c-section. Max was left not knowing what was going on though he was standing right there. He walked out of the room and saw Kit there. “Where is Mitsuhide?”“Downstairs with the vans.” Kit said. “Max call your parents to come get the kids right now. This is happening right now.”Max pulled out his phone and called his father. They were on their way. He told them that Mitsuhide was with the kids and he need them to go with them for right now. Deanna was having the baby right now. He didn’t want to answer the questions his father had. He wanted to curl up and hide himself.“You didn’t do this.” Kit said.“I did. I pushed her to much.”
Max looked at Deanna and now understood what Kit had been trying to get through to him. She was the one at the center of this entire family but she was not responsible though she might feel that way. Mitsuhide had felt guilty because of his decision to keep June alive when it would have been easier to let her go. He had tried to distance himself at the time and lost completely when everything went to hell for him.Deanna was willing to walk away from her life that she had with him because she thought she was the toxic one. He wanted to hug her and strangle her at the same time. He looked at her holding one of their twin sons. There was nothing but true love there in her eyes. She looked up to him.“They don’t look like me at all.” She said as she smiled. “That’s okay though. We have enough of those that do.”
“Well they aren’t my favorite either.” She said as she looked up to him and he saw the pain in her eyes.“Sweetheart can you forgive me?” he asked. “I know I messed up with this. I shouldn’t have gone at you the way that I did. I had to get the question answered. It is hard to dispute a picture though and you and another version of you standing before a dead version of you while you two are covered in blood was enough to fry my brain a bit. Also if I hadn’t got the answers from you someone else would have tried if I showed them the picture that is.”“What do you mean if you showed them the picture?” Deanna looked at him with surprise as she spoke. Max was a good cop. He would never hide a piece of evidence. So the thought he could have was something she couldn’t believe he would hav

It had been one year since Max and Deanna Anderson found out about the death of David Watson which marked the ending of the saga of the Watson’s and the drama of the insanity that the family had caused. It was almost fitting that they were back at the Watson family house opening it to the public on the anniversary of his death. All of the kids were around them as they gave the first tour of the house. A place they both still hated with a burning passion.Deanna had learned to talk well in front of people as she had started to talk about her family and the things that had gone on in the house. She was getting better for herself as she talked about it more and more. Though Max was still a professor for the police academies he had slowed down his work schedule to help her out more around the house. The six children they had took nearly all of her time as she helped guide the
When the light of the day had faded Max and Deanna along with The Akechi’s stood on the porch waving off the group of men that had helped make the move and the unpacking go smooth. Mitsuhide and Max had disappeared for a bit of time and when they came back it seemed that Max could see straight again. Kit had pried the information out of Deanna as to why they both seemed like they were in a fog.“You know in the end it really is the best outcome. I understand that might be hard to hear but honestly it really is.” Kit said. “I had such a hard time accepting it when Randy used the bomb at the courthouse. I don’t think that many people should have been hurt or died because of the actions of a few but now I understand why he did it. He was ending the pain they caused but instead he caused more of his own.”“I get tha
Deanna sat back and waited for Max to say something or do something but instead he was lost in his own thoughts. He seemed to be taking this harder than she was. The one thing she could think of was he had seen her sister in the glass coffin and she hadn’t. The thought of that being her at some point had become one of his greatest fears though she knew that wouldn’t have happened. He looked over to her and took her hand in his. “Deanna I don’t know what to say.”“Then don’t say anything.” She said to him, “Words don’t really matter right now. Nothing can undo what has been done. We do need to get to the house though. The movers are waiting.”“You still want to move today?” he asked somewhat surprised.“Am I supposed to gi
The next day began as a complete blur of activity for both Max and Deanna. The start of it was the company that she had hired to open the letters wanted them to come and pick up the money. It was reaching into hundreds of thousands of dollars at that point and they didn’t want it at the building any longer. Deanna called and would have an armored truck come transport it to the bank sometime today. That was an easy fix for everyone involved. They made it to the lawyers and Deanna went in to get the keys for the house. She was in there for a little longer than she had hoped as they needed to go over a few more things about the case against David. He had gone radio silent while he was in the hospital. They were afraid he was trying to figure out how to break out though the police were not going to let that happen. He was the mos
Max ran his finger down her face as she looked up to him. “Yes.” He said softly. “Loni and her husband went to the hospital and got to spend some time with the boys. They wanted to know what was going to be needed for the two of them so they could set up the rooms for them. Deanna they will get all the love and attention they could ever need there. This is the best gift you could give to four people. Loni wanted you to know that she expects not wants you to be a part of the boys lives. You are their aunt and now cousin by marriage.”“Not another relation.” Deanna said. “I am just their aunt slash sister.”“Deanna everyone understands why you let go of them. It wasn’t because you didn’t love them or want them. It was that you wanted the best for them.” Max said as he gave her a squee
The next day they were getting the boxes ready for the first wave of things to be moved to the new house. Everything was set and they would be meeting in the morning with the lawyers who would have already bought the houses that were side by side. Deanna had thought about giving it to Mitsuhide and Kit well before she actually said it to Max. He knew that Mitsuhide would have his own issues with it but in the end he would accept it and they would have new neighbors. The thought of having a friend that close by was a god send to both men for the what if situations they knew they could run into with having so many little ones around. It would be good to have them close for that but also they would have each others back. Max still worried about David’s fans running about and that one of them could try to get to Deanna. Having Mitsuhide next door with his talents with a gun would be mind easing for h
The couples settled into a nice rest of the day with no talk of the craziness of the families they came from. They all tended to the children that were playing in the yard or taking a nap somewhere on the patio or inside. Life for one day was good as Deanna sat back and thought of everything that she should be doing. Instead she was enjoying talking to the couple and learning more about them. She was for the first time really starting to enjoy herself and she knew she was feeling better because of the mindset she was in. That was when she knew she could really just be herself with them and they would not judge her even on a bad day.Max was watching closely as his wife was sitting there and her mask was coming off more and more. He loved to see her this way. It was the person
Max and Mitsuhide were outside watching over most of the kids. The youngest set of twins were still inside. Mitsuhide was watching Max closely. “So how bad was it?”“What?” Max asked surprised he looked at his friend.“”When she woke up. I know you said she glossed over it but.” Mitsuhide said. He knew how bad everything had really been that day. Though he understood why Max had to get the answers that way no one thought it would affect Deanna like it had. The reaction she had to try and leave wasn’t something he or Max could have seen coming. Nor was the one that she was in labor. Even after watching his own wife go into labor he didn’t see any of the signs in Deanna.
