Deanna Anderson stood in the front hallway of the house she shared with her husband of six months, waiting for him to come home from teaching at the local police academy. She was looking at the portrait of their wedding day that he had selected from the hundreds of photos that his cousin and her new company had taken. They had four albums from the day. Every one of the pictures was something special to the both of them. They had enjoyed the day for the new beginning in their life together as man and wife.

It was a moment of peace in the house as the triplets and baby were taking their naps, and Deanna could have a moment to herself. It was a rare thing for her during the day. She looked at the photo next to it as well. It was the one taken on the day she had graduated from college, which was five months ago. There were two photos in that frame. One was just her, and the other was that of her with the family the two of them had built together. That day was also special, for they knew she had escaped a fate worse than death then. The date had been drilled hundreds of times into her brother's heads. That was the day she would no longer be missed at school, and they could have her. It was the day she was supposed to go missing forever. She survived, though, and came out on top. She was the victor in it all.

Henry, Poppy, Clover,  and Michelle had become her focus in life instead of continuing with her goal of becoming a forensic tech for the police force. She had helped write the classwork for Max’s new classes at the academy. That had been one of the easiest things she had done in the past few months. Max’s classes were a smashing success. Though that wasn’t anything she was surprised about. He may be a taskmaster at being a professor, but underneath it all, he was a giant teddy bear. At least she thought so. He had shown that to her so many times over the past few months they had been together.

The next photo was the day the two had officially adopted the four children. There was little doubt of the fact they all had begun to thrive with the care of the two people who had taken them in at different times. They had made strides in their ability to talk and express themselves in the past few months. They all seemed to be perfectly normal children now. Though underneath the surface, Max and Deanna knew that could change in a heartbeat. The five people that were originally Watson’s, now Anderson’s, were the product of a sick and twisted family. There was no doubt of that. Deanna strived to be ahead of the game, though when it came to her family and what they had done. The kids were her focus, and she was sure she would be able to catch anything if it began to seem off. They would do anything for the kids in the end.

She had said, many times in fact, that her family was nothing more than a plague on the planet. Max often agreed with her, knowing he had saved the best parts of the family and made them his own. She hated thinking about them. Though she had tried to erase them from her own memory, it was impossible. She was still in the storm they had caused. That was not going to go away anytime soon, either. She was trying her best to move on, but there were so many questions left unvoiced that it was hard to really have any closure.

The trail of the century was going to begin soon enough. Her brother and biological father, who was the same person, was set to stand trial for the murders of his parents, sister, and two unidentified young women. David had also held other cousins in his dungeon of hell in their parent's basement. Deanna didn’t know how many or for how long with some of them. Her other siblings were still being held indefinitely at a few local asylums. For them, the insanity plea that was offered to them was accepted, and they would be locked in there for the rest of their natural lives. Their respective children were in intensive therapy to help repair the damage the siblings had inflicted upon them by believing in the family’s curse. This was her mother’s side who had followed that belief, and the man she believed to be her father, who was her grandfather, in reality, practiced some form of bastardized satanism. He was no better, but his plans didn’t include the children he had with his wife.

An ancient curse that was supposedly placed on the family during the witch trials in Salem or some time around that time period. One that required two lines of the same family to join and create a child. The child would have to be tortured and then murdered to save the rest of the family. Deanna, herself, was the result of this curse. Her mother was the same mother to her father, David, and also her natural grandmother as well. She had been the result of her mother’s insanity and incestuous cravings. It had been found during the investigation that she had not only done this with her oldest son but all of her sons.

It had been found out that her mother had grown up believing in the family’s curse to the point that she had taken on the role of the chosen one, though she was not the one chosen. The one chosen, Joyce, did not to take part in the curse to begin with. She had thought it would die with her. Deanna’s mother, Carolyn, had taken on the role and twisted it even more. She had the same relationship with all of her sons. She had also encouraged her daughters to take part in it as well. All of her children, with the exception of Deanna, had a part in it. They all knew, and they all continued the practice with their own children. The thought still plagued Deanna that it was there in her face the entire time she was living there, and she had no idea of it or what they were all doing. She hated them all.

The man who Deanna had known as her father, who was her grandfather actually, was no better in what he believed and practiced. He had assumed a different perversion, which was just as bad. He had taken in women who were high risk on the streets and cleaned them up, fed them, and then locked them away in the secret rooms in the house he shared with his family. He then got them pregnant, and after they gave birth, he would take the babies away from them. They were raised in another secret area of the house. They were then sacrificed in Deanna’s name to protect her. In a practice that was barbaric and a twisted form of satanism. The ashes of the children then were scattered throughout the garden and around the house.

Though it was impossible to actually know the total number of children, he had done this too. The birth certificates that were found in his office had reached over fifty children that were missing. The girls they had saved the day they had been at the house searching for the third time, which all had names that were flowers, were also thriving in their new homes. They had been saved from the house of horrors in the nick of time. After they had been removed, it was found out they were near out of food. That was the day they found Poppy and Clover and realized that the two were actually Henry’s sisters in being a set of triplets. Deanna knew her new family tree was even more grand and perverted. She never really wanted to think about it either, but she did write it all out so it could be seen.

Henry had been taken in by her parents shortly after his birth. Deanna had accepted the young boy as her adopted brother, but the idea her parents had taken in the newborn had not set well with her. Even seeing him very rarely while she was in university, she had known she wanted to be ready to step in and take him if the need ever happened. When it did, and Max was with her, it seemed like the best of ideas. Little did they know within a week they would have a newborn as well, and a few months later, two more the same age as the toddler. There was no hint even from Henry’s birth mother, who was Deanna’s cousin, that there were any more children. Deanna had to wonder if the poor girl even knew she had given birth to triplets instead of one child.

Deanna was lost in her mind thinking of how everything had turned out in her life when the front door opened, and Max walked in. Dressed in one of his darker suits, he removed his jacket as he set his briefcase down and looked over her as she stood looking at the pictures on the wall. He walked up behind her and wrapped his arms over her shoulders, and then ran his hands down her side letting them rest on her growing abdomen. “How are you two doing?” he asked in her ear before he placed a quick kiss on her cheek.

“Fine.” She said with a soft smile.

“Just fine?” he asked as she turned in his arms. “He isn’t bothering you so much today?”

“No,” Deanna said as she looked up into his golden-brown eyes. “He is being nice to me today.”

“Where are the other little monsters?” Max asked as he stood up to his full height and looked down at her.

“Finishing up their nap.” She said with a smile.

“What are you doing up here. You should be resting as well.” Max said as he looked at her. He was always concerned with her standing too much or working too hard to do something. He was trying to do extra around the house to make life easier for her. Max also made plenty of time to play with the kids when he was home to help tire them out and help build whatever skill she had been working on with them.

“Thinking,” Deanna said with a smile. “These three days were the best in my life. I was also thinking about the storm that surrounds all of them.”

“Don’t stress yourself out.” He said as she led her to the couch. “The trial is going to start soon, and it is going to be long and detailed. They are expecting it to be three to four weeks long. Not to mention the media circus this is going to create. They are worse than the lawyers as far as I am concerned.”

“I know,” Deanna said. “I wish he had just taken the deal.” David Watson would not take a deal no matter how much they tried to give into him. The things he wanted in return were too great, though, and not possible. The families of his victims would be forced to have to sit in the courtroom and hear the details over and over as he got to relive the crimes in detail. He wanted to continue to inflict as much pain as he could. There was nothing more that could be said about him other than he was a sadist to the extreme.

“The problem with our brother’s is they have to be in control. At least that is what they think. Neither of them was actually in control of their situations. Yours was being controlled by your mother. Mine only had the control he thought he was taking from my parents. The fact was they were all being used by each other.” Max said.

“Well, at least Michael took the deal,” Deanna said. Knowing that Max’s older brother did take the deal, and he would be locked away for his time and allow the people he hurt to regain some normalcy in their lives was a blessing. His parents were doing well, adjusting to the freedom they now had.

“Ten years for what he did isn’t enough,” Max replied as he ran his fingers through her hair as she leaned against him as they sat on the couch. He chuckled at the thought. He had always disliked his brother. He hated the idea that his brother had hurt his parents in his absence, but he was dealing with the aftermath of that now.

“You only say that because he hit me,” Deanna said.

“For that, he deserves death in my eyes. I doubt my parents will take him in again, but that is something we will have to deal with when it happens.” Max said with a smile, “Right now, we have enough to deal with because of your family.”

“Daddy!” three small voices screamed as the pair looked up to the stairs as the three were scooting down the stairs carefully. “You be home!”

“I am home,” Max said as he laughed. This was the reaction of the triplets every day when he walked in the door. It was nice to have one day where he got to talk to Deanna without having the three little elves climbing all over him. Their lives were hectic beyond belief with the two-year-old triplets and an eight-month-old Michelle who was sound asleep still. Soon they would be adding another baby to the mix. As the triplets launched themselves at him, he moved to the floor as he wrestled with them all. “Be nice to mommy. She is still cooking your brother.”

“Well, at least you can distract them while I get dinner ready,” Deanna said as she struggled for a moment to stand up.

“I can do that,” Max said with a grin as he looked at her as she moved through the house to the kitchen. He knew if they had lasted this long and they had weathered the beginning of the storm that surrounded them, nothing could stop them now. They had to work at everything just as hard as a normal couple with a lot of added interference from their families. Max’s goal was to make his life free from the Watson’s and the insanity that surrounded them as soon as possible. There was only one problem with the thought. It never seemed to end with those people.

Max and Deanna had one more stop to make before they went back home for the rest of the day. They were enjoying the weekend for what it was as he didn’t have to work so hard now that everything was streamlined in his classes. The new academy bent over backwards to give him what he wanted or could possibly want to help his students. It was a vast difference from the university and how they had treated him with his simple requests that he needed fifteen forms for. He could focus on his family and himself more and he loved that. Everything was going well with the job and he loved it. The people he was teaching all wanted nothing more than to be in the class. It was people who actually wanted to learn from him and not try to pass the class with favors. That made him even more pleased as well that he didn’t have to dodge the efforts of sly teen girls.Deanna smiled at the reaction she had received from everyone at the station. He kne

People often asked Deanna if she had gone to see her siblings where they were being held. She couldn’t understand why people would try to defend them to her as well. It was their fault or the biggest one she hated to hear was that forgiveness was key in keeping herself happy. Deanna wanted to lash out at most of those people. Surprisingly most of her family’s friends had reached out to her at some point and they said the same things. That she should just move on, or that she should help cover it up, the idea that she could even remotely want to cover things up was beyond her. She hated the idea that people actually believed she was the driving force to getting David locked up and exposing the family’s secrets. She didn’t want them to be known. She wished she could hide them under a rug or in a closet and only have the people who knew them actually know t

They had to prepare for the meetings that would begin for the trial. Neither of them was looking forward to it. Max’s job knew what this was about and they had begun to prepare him as well. Max’s turn in the room came the following day. Deanna had told him of the way the questions had gone in which wasn’t a huge surprise. They had thought of at least four different ways the legal team would try to spin this and David’s actions in it. So when the questions that were asked she knew how they wanted to handle this. Max had prepared her for that.“Max it was like you said.” Deanna said as she sat down at the table while dinner was cooking on the stove. The smells were starting to fill the air and draw the attention of three hungry little toddlers. Michelle was always hungry though she didn’t like baby food at all. She was already snacking on some puffed cereal in her bouncy car.“How so?” Max said as he looked up from the floor where he was sitting letting the toddlers jump on him.“They were tryin

They had to figure out the best way to question him because he was both. He had a professional hand in this and he had a personal one. David’s lawyers made it plain to see they didn’t like him. “Mr. Anderson, how would you describe your part in the cases and the overall part in this case?” One of David’s lawyers asked when they began the second day of pre trial questioning. The tone of the question set the stage for Max and how he would be answering all the questions from them.“To begin I believe that it was a personal issues well before it became a professional one with the first incident from this c

It had been one year since Max and Deanna Anderson found out about the death of David Watson which marked the ending of the saga of the Watson’s and the drama of the insanity that the family had caused. It was almost fitting that they were back at the Watson family house opening it to the public on the anniversary of his death. All of the kids were around them as they gave the first tour of the house. A place they both still hated with a burning passion.Deanna had learned to talk well in front of people as she had started to talk about her family and the things that had gone on in the house. She was getting better for herself as she talked about it more and more. Though Max was still a professor for the police academies he had slowed down his work schedule to help her out more around the house. Deanna called and would have an armored truck come transport it to the bank sometime today. That was an easy fix for everyone involved. They made it to the lawyers and Deanna went in to get the keys for the house.
