August.

Leanor looked pale when I told her I was a friend of Harry. Perhaps she ran away from home and became a servant here. But the Eleanor I know would never settle for something like that. So what business did she have there?

I glanced at her as I drove off. Dash it all, Eleanor was far prettier than I remembered. It was fascinating. When she came and caught me with Jess that day, her cheeks were sallow, and her eyes still gazed with something like shock back then. Probably the Maltreatment and the cheating which was surely difficult. But still, that creature bore no resemblance to the rosy-cheeked, hazel-eyed sylph who sat beside me as if…well, as if I was a man and she a woman.

Frequently, I spied on her as she set her focus on the other side of the window. Even in a long, big gown, she was more graceful and attractive than most of the women I've met in my life.

She wouldn't look at me, even though I was sure she knew I was looking at her. She always did.
