Logan’s POV

As I held Veronica gently in my arms, feeling her fear and hurt that shook her body as she cried. Her cries broke my heart, I hated to see her like this. I hoped that her leaving that horrible place would bring her solace not heartache.

“Little one,” I murmured softly as I stroked her hair gently. “Everything is alright now. You're safe here.”

She slowly looked up at me, her eyes puffy and red. I held her face in my hands, our eyes locking with each other. At that moment time seemed to stand still. I could see she had questions, the uncertainty to trust me.

Without thinking, I leaned forward, pressing my lips gently against hers. She didn’t resist, didn’t pull back. The kiss was tender, filled with reassurance and comfort. She was tense and stiff for a moment, then she relaxed in her touch.
