Melissa’s POV

The woodland was silent, with shadows reaching between the trees and the only sound being my heartbeat pounding in my ears. I took a deep breath and tried to stabilize myself. I was here alone to meet Raven. I wanted answers I needed them but I was afraid of what he might say.

Then I saw him. Raven emerged from behind a tree, his eyes flashing in the dark light. His smile was piercing and unnerving, sending shivers down my spine.

"Melissa," he said, his tone low and silky. "I knew you'd come."

"I came for answers, Raven. Nothing else," I answered, attempting to maintain my tone.

Raven chuckled and tilted his head. "Oh, I'll give you answers... but you may not like them."

I gulped, but my gaze remained on his. "Then start talking."

He took a step closer, staring at me with weird intensity. "You come from a line of powerful wolves, Melissa. Your ancestors weren't ordinary, they could alter the destiny of entire packs. They could bring prosperity... or destroy everything."

I felt my breath catch. Can we change our fate? It sounded impossible. "But why would I have that level of power? "I'm just me."

"That's what you think," he said, his tone almost contemptuous. "But this power is in your blood. It's been waiting for someone strong enough to awaken it."

My hands clenched, and an uneasy feeling twisted through my stomach. "And you think I can... control this power? That I'd want to use it the way you do?"

Raven's smile grew as if he'd been expecting this question.

"Melissa, you don't understand," Raven murmured. "I'm offering you something greater than this pack could ever give you. Imagine a life where you're not bound by rules, where no one can hold you back. I can give you that freedom."

I shook my head, attempting to resist the appeal of his words. "Freedom by hurting others? By controlling packs like pieces on a board? No, Raven. That's not who I am."

Raven's countenance stiffened, but he persisted, his voice becoming more convincing. "You want control over your power, don't you? You don't want to be afraid of it anymore. I can help you with that. With me, you'd learn to use it fully no more limits, no more fear."

I hesitated, a smidgeon of doubt sneaking in. I desired and needed control over my authority, but not in this way.

When he noticed my uncertainty, he leaned in closer. "Don't you want to be free, Melissa? To feel the strength that's rightfully yours?"

I took a wobbly step back, bracing myself. "No. You're not offering freedom, Raven. You're offering control. And I won't let you manipulate me."

His smile disappeared, and his eyes became frigid. "You're making a mistake, Melissa."

"Maybe," I responded, raising my chin. "But it's my choice."

Raven's face contorted with rage. He rushed instantly, his claws gleaming in the faint light. I hardly had time to react, falling back as his hand slashed through the air where I was standing.

"Is this how you convince people, Raven? By attacking them?" I spat, avoiding another swipe.

"You're too foolish to see what's on offer! He growled, his voice full of hate. "If you won't join me willingly, then I'll force you to see your potential."

I felt more energy within me than ever before, bursting to life. I wasn't sure how to control it yet, but I knew I needed to try. I raised my hands, and golden light flashed around my fingertips. The power surged through me, wild and fierce, as if it had its mind.

Raven attacked again, and this time I raised my hands, releasing a surge of energy. He staggered back for just a moment. I could feel the strength within me expanding, but it was accompanied by flashes—images of unknown wolves and places.

I gasped and stumbled as the images flooded over me. I saw wolves with blazing eyes leading packs to combat. I witnessed flames and destruction, but also serenity and prosperity. These were my forebears, the ones who had held this power before me.

"No..." I said quietly. Each memory and vision strengthened me while also tearing me apart.

Raven's voice broke through the veil. "This is your heritage, Melissa." The ability to shape the werewolf world. Don't you see? With me, you can learn to control it."

But I knew his definition of control meant one thing: using me as a weapon.

I tried to keep him off with all my efforts, but the visions kept coming, making me dizzy. Raven closed in, brushing his claws against my arm as I stumbled backwards.

"You're too weak to manage this strength alone! "He snarled and advanced. Give in, Melissa. Stop battling who you are supposed to be."

I gritted my teeth, attempting to ignore the anguish and flashes of memories that were flooding me. I could feel my

energy dwindling and my barriers eroding. I was losing, and Raven knew it.

Just when I felt I couldn't take it any longer, a voice cut through the chaos.

"Get away from her!"

Damon's voice was harsh, and within seconds, he and Lucas stormed into the clearing, their eyes flaming with rage. Raven hardly had time to turn before Damon tackled him and pushed him back.

Lucas rushed to my side, assisting me to my feet. "Are you alright?" he inquired, his voice full of concern.

I nodded, despite feeling anything but great. "I... I think so."

Damon and Raven fought hard, their movements merging with speed and power. Damon's eyes were filled with rage and determination as he struggled to protect me.

Raven hissed and managed to push Damon back. He glanced at me one last time, his expression full of dark promise. "This isn't over, Melissa," he hissed, stepping back.

Before I could answer, he faded into the shadows, leaving just stillness. I shook with the weight of his parting words.

Lucas gripped my hand, speaking softly. "He is gone. "You're safe now."

But I couldn't get over Raven's parting comments. "You don't know the real enemy yet," he continued.

I looked at Damon and Lucas, my thoughts racing. If Raven was not the genuine threat, who was?

As we stood in the clearing, the darkness around us seemed to thicken, as if hiding more secrets. And deep down, I knew this was only the beginning of a far greater battle.

Melissa’s POVBack at the packhouse, I collected Dennis, Damon, and Lucas in a meeting room. The hush was oppressive as if everyone knew something enormous was approaching. I took a big breath and looked at each of them."Raven told me something strange," I said. "Before he left, he said I didn't know the real enemy."Dennis lifted his eyebrow. "That's Raven attempting to scare you, Melissa. "He wants you confused and afraid."I shake my head. "No, Dennis." This felt odd. He wasn't simply attempting to intimidate me. It was as if he knew something we didn't.Damon clenched his jaw as he gazed at Dennis. "Maybe Melissa is right. We should not disregard a warning simply because it originated from Raven."Dennis scoffed and crossed his arms. "So, what?" We start hunting for an enemy who may not even exist. Raven is the enemy, and he's only trying to play with your head, Melissa.Frustration rose within me. "Why don't you believe me, Dennis?" "You're always trying to dismiss things as if

Melissa’s POVThings between Dennis and myself had changed since I discovered the prophecy and his hidden knowledge. The trust that previously bound us together seemed to be slipping away, replaced by a nagging unease. As I passed inside the packhouse, I attempted to shake off the turmoil in my heart, but it persisted like a shadow."Melissa." Dennis' voice interrupted my thoughts. I turned to see him standing by the door, his expression tense. "We need to talk."I crossed my arms and kept my tone steady. "About what, Dennis?"His eyes were filled with frustration. "You've been avoiding me since our conversation about the prophecy. I'm trying to protect you, yet you're acting as if I betrayed you."Because you did! "The words came out sharper than I had intended. "You concealed something very vital from me, Dennis. How can I trust you now?"Dennis clenched his jaw and took a step closer. Melissa’s POVI entered the common room in the eerily calm morning. There stood Lucas, pacing, looking at the door like he was waiting for someone."Lucas?" I frowned as I asked. "What's happening?"His expression was filled with worry as he turned to face me. Dennis is gone, Melissa. He departed early this morning to face Raven."What?" My heart was pounding when I gasped. "He went by himself. He is aware that it is a trap.Lucas shook his head and remarked, "I suppose his pride prevented him from returning." "He is directly putting himself in danger."Damon heard us and came in at that very moment. Then we can stop wasting time. Before he kills himself, let's leave.I swallowed my dread and nodded. "Leave now."We hurried outside, running across the woodland in the chilly early air. Every stride I took made my heart race. I didn't want to consider the consequences of not getting to him in time.Dennis and Raven were heatedly arguing when we discovered them in a clearing. Dennis was

THE GATHERING STORMMelissa’s POVEveryone in the pack was busy getting ready for what seemed like an impending onslaught. Nobody in our zone was anxious or apprehensive after Raven's warning. As Dennis organized soldiers and ensured our defences were in place, he was in full command mode. I felt a fresh wave of devotion to him as I saw him leading with such vigour and determination. However, I sensed that recognizable pull in my heart as my eyes strayed to Damon.Dennis called, "Melissa," jolting me out of my reverie. "You must be here for me. The defences along the eastern border are being planned.I nodded as I approached him, attempting to ignore the conflicting feelings that were roiling within me. Dennis gave me a more subdued than normal look as he looked over at me."Willn't you stay close?" His tone was more vulnerable than I had anticipated when he asked.I smiled reassuringly and said, "I will." "We have this in common."With a seemingly relieved nod, he returned to his wor

Melissa’s POVTension permeated the pack's atmosphere. Guards patrolled the boundaries, keeping an eye out for any indication of Raven's rogues, while warriors honed their weapons. However, I was more focused on Damon than on the preparations. He had his knapsack draped over his shoulder when I discovered him on the forest's edge. His jaw was clenched, his expression fixed."Are you going to leave?" My voice cracked a little as I asked. With sadness in his blue eyes, he looked at me. "I can't remain here, Melissa. Not in this manner. Observing you with him. He gave a headshake. "It's excessive."With shaking hands, I took a step closer. "Please, Damon. Don't leave. You must be here for me. You are needed by the pack.He turned his head away and chuckled bitterly. "Do you? Or do you simply want me to be there as a fallback, someone you can turn to when Dennis gets too difficult?"That is untrue!" My chest tightened as I insisted. "Damon, you are significant to me. Melissa’s POVAs everyone milled around the area, getting ready for the impending combat, the tension in the pack was palpable. Sentences were positioned at the borders, and weapons were sharpened. Even with the preparations, there was still a sense of apprehension. With duty weighing heavily on my heart, I stood in the middle. This was no ordinary altercation. Everything could be decided in the battle.Lucas stated steadily, "Melissa, we're ready." I was given a border map by him. "Dennis is guarding the northern edge, and Damon and his group are based here."I remarked, looking at the map, "Good." "Tell them to stay where they are. Don't interact if you see Raven. Let me deal with him.Lucas paused. "Are you certain? He's dangerous."I'm sure," I cut in, my tone steely. Raven is more than simply a threat. He is sly. I must confront him head-on if we are to prevail.Reluctantly, Lucas nodded and left.Dennis stepped forward, his face solemn. "You don't have to do this by yourself, Me

Melissa’s POVNow that there was quietness on the battlefield, it wasn't reassuring. It weighted an impending storm. As the first rays of morning peaked through the clouds, I stood at the edge of the clearing, gazing at the horizon. The pack started reassembling, but their eyes were tired and their actions slow.Damon's voice broke through my mental fog and said, "Melissa." He came over to me with his customary assurance mixed with worry. "We must get together and speak to everyone. You must speak with them.I swallowed hard and nodded. Raven's remarks were still causing my head to spin. You'll ruin them all. I was plagued by his voice, and his final admission about my past made my chest turn like a knife. With their faces etched with terror and fatigue, the pack formed a semicircle. I inhaled deeply before moving forward."We've won this battle," I said, maintaining my composure despite my internal conflict. The war hasn't ended, though. With solemn expressions, they were both armed.Damon stated firmly, "You don't have to do this."I gave a headshake. "Yes, I do." We cannot afford to ignore the temple if it has the answers we seek.Dennis gave Damon a stern look while crossing his arms. And you believe it's a good idea to go without backup? She isn't travelling alone. With a chilly tone, Damon answered, "I didn't say she was."I stepped in between them and yelled, "Enough." We're squandering time. Let's leave.Ahead, the dark, ominous jungle loomed. The weight of my mother's journal, which was safely inside my bag, served as a continual reminder of the danger.Damon fell into stride next to me as we ventured farther into the woods. "What do you mean my past was rewritten?" My voice was scarcely steady as I whispered.Damon's golden eyes grew softer, but beneath them was a sadness I couldn't imagine. "Someone—something—wiped out your memory, Melissa. Everything you once knew, including your life and past, was taken from you. With a searing ache developing between my temples, I shook my head. "That isn't rational. For as long as I can remember, I have resided here. I lead a typical existence.Damon's jaw tightened. "No, you don’t." His tone was stern but compassionate.
