Melissa’s POV

Back at the packhouse, I collected Dennis, Damon, and Lucas in a meeting room. The hush was oppressive as if everyone knew something enormous was approaching. I took a big breath and looked at each of them.

"Raven told me something strange," I said. "Before he left, he said I didn't know the real enemy."

Dennis lifted his eyebrow. "That's Raven attempting to scare you, Melissa. "He wants you confused and afraid."

I shake my head. "No, Dennis." This felt odd. He wasn't simply attempting to intimidate me. It was as if he knew something we didn't.

Damon clenched his jaw as he gazed at Dennis. "Maybe Melissa is right. We should not disregard a warning simply because it originated from Raven."

Dennis scoffed and crossed his arms. "So, what?" We start hunting for an enemy who may not even exist. Raven is the enemy, and he's only trying to play with your head, Melissa.

Frustration rose within me. "Why don't you believe me, Dennis?" "You're always trying to dismiss things as if they're nothing."

Dennis's face hardened. "Because I don't want you to chase ghosts, Melissa. Raven is trying to separate us, and it is working."

Lucas put his hand on my shoulder. "Perhaps we should just stay awake in case there's more to this. "Better safe than sorry."

I flashed Lucas an appreciative grin, but my heart was troubled. Dennis' dismissive attitude was causing a schism between us, and I didn't know how to repair it.

Later, I went through the packhouse, my thoughts full of uncertainties and questions. I couldn't ignore the idea that there was more to my lineage than I realized, something significant that Raven hinted at but did not fully explain. I decided to rummage through my mother's old possessions in the hopes of finding a clue.

In her room, I discovered a little, delicate amulet hidden inside an ancient wooden trunk. It was formed like a wolf, with tiny, delicate carvings along the borders. Something about it seemed forceful.

"What is this? "I mumbled as I turned it over in my hands.

As I gripped the amulet, a light warmth flowed through me, and words began to form in my mind a prophecy related to my family. The phrases were ancient and weird, but I knew what they meant. They spoke of a "chosen one" born into my family, destined to unite or destroy the werewolf world.

My heart pounded. Could the prophecy be about me? Was this why Raven asked me to join him?

I clasped the amulet tightly, a weight of duty resting on my shoulders. This was no longer just about me; it was about the entire werewolf community. And I was supposed to decide its fate.

With the prophecy still fresh in my memory, I set out to find Dennis. I needed answers, and I believed he could help me make sense of them. But when I confronted him, the truth came out unexpectedly.

"Dennis," I responded, displaying the amulet. "I discovered something related to a prophecy." Did you know about it?"

Dennis paled and averted his gaze. "Melissa... I..."

The stillness between us was dense and strained.

"You knew, right?" I whispered, the realization dawning on me. "You knew about my heritage, about the prophecy, and you didn't tell me?"

He met my gaze, guilt blazing across his eyes. "I knew. I didn't tell you because I didn't want to put you at risk, Melissa. The less you knew, the more secure you were.

My hands trembled from fury and pain. "You thought keeping me in the dark would make me safe? This is my life, Dennis. I had the right to know!"

Dennis attempted to reach for me, but I stepped aside. "Melissa, I tried to protect you. I did not want to trouble you with something like this."

"But this is not your decision!" I exclaimed, feeling a severe pain in my chest. "You should have trusted me."

My heart twisted as I saw the pain in his eyes, yet I couldn't deny my feelings of betrayal. I couldn't trust him right now.

Still reeling from my encounter with Dennis, I approached Damon. He was in the training yard, doing some exercises with extreme intensity. When he noticed me, he dropped everything and walked over.

"What's wrong, Melissa?" he inquired, his gaze softening as he noticed my frown.

I hesitated before letting it all out. "There is a prophecy, Damon. My family and I have the potential to either unite or destroy the werewolf community. Dennis was aware of the situation. "He kept it from me because he believed it would keep me safe."

Damon's eyes widened, and he reached out to lightly squeeze my shoulder. "I apologize, Melissa. That must be dreadful, knowing he kept something so crucial from you."

I nodded, my voice barely audible. "I'm not sure what to do. "I feel so...lost."

Damon drew me into a hug, his warmth and strength calming the tempest within me. "You don't have to go

through this alone, Melissa. Whatever happens, I'll be here for you. "We will figure it out together."

For a minute, I let myself relax in his grip. Damon's presence made me feel understood and at ease.

But then, from the corner of my eye, I noticed movement. I turned slightly and found Dennis standing in the distance, watching us. His face was filled with wrath and jealousy.

As Damon pulled back, I felt a chill shoot through my body. I had no idea what was going on between Dennis and me anymore, but I knew one thing: things were only going to grow more difficult.

As Dennis turned and walked away, I felt a sinking feeling in my gut. There were too many secrets, too many unanswered questions. And I had no idea who to trust anymore.

Everything could be decided in the battle.Lucas stated steadily, "Melissa, we're ready." I was given a border map by him.
