Chapter 26

Cecilia felt intense pain everywhere, as if every bone in her body was broken. She was greeted with an all-white environment when she finally opened her eyes. The sharp smell of disinfectant told her that she was in a hospital.

Cecilia forced herself to sit up. The pain that shot through her abdomen caused her to clutch her stomach instinctively as she surveyed her surroundings.

She couldn't help but sigh with relief when Bennett was nowhere to be seen.

Cecilia had already guessed what was going on from the moment Bennett appeared at Samuel's place. Just like Skylar had said, Bennett had used her as bait to find Samuel's hideout and take him down in one fell swoop.

She stared blankly out the window. She didn't even react when the door behind her opened, Cecilia only returned to her senses when Bennett walked past her and shut the window.

"Your body hasn't healed yet, so don't let the cold wind in." Bennett's tone was surprisingly gentle, unlike his usual rough demeanor.
