Chapter 04. The Trickery

“Is she awake?” Mike asked Evan. He looked tired and sleep-deprived. Two days had passed, and the woman he had brought hadn’t woken up.

“Not yet, Mike.” Evan said. His expression instantly changed. There was something more important than this that he had to tell Mike.

“Alpha John’s men are coming back.” He continued. “They threatened that if we don’t hand over their master’s bride, then they....” Before Evan could finish his sentence, Mike cut him off.

“If they come back, you don’t need to talk to them. Just kill them right away.”

Lara was surprised to find herself in an unfamiliar room. She didn’t really remember what had happened to her.

“Oh my God!” A nurse looked at Lara with wide eyes. She turned to her friend. “Hurry up and report this to Evan.”

“Who are you? And where am I?” Lara asked in a confused tone. Despite her weakened state, she remained vigilant.

“This is my master’s place, miss. And we are not bad people.” The nurse said calmly. She noticed that this woman looked wary.

But Lara was not used to kindness. She believed that if she owed someone something, then she should do something for that person.

Lara tried to get off the bed, and the nurse approached her.

“Don’t move too much, miss.” The nurse held Lara’s shoulders. “Your wound hasn’t healed yet.”

Hearing that, Lara immediately touched her stomach. Her memory came back quickly. She immediately looked at the nurse.

“Where’s my sister?” She asked with worry and fear.

The nurse frowned deeply, not understanding who this woman was asking about

“I’m not alone. I’m with my sister. And....” Lara stopped her sentence. Her head was throbbing hard.

“I’m sorry, miss. But my master only brought you. There is no one else.”

“Then where is Jennifer?” Lara asked, but no one knew how her sister was doing.

If her father finds out, what will happen to her later?

Lara rubbed her shoulders as goosebumps suddenly appeared.

“How is she?” A man asked, and Lara turned her head towards the man. She frowned because she didn’t recognize the man.

“Can we move her to Mr. Mike’s room?” Evan asked again. This was Mike’s own request.

Lara turned around with a confused look. Who was Mike? It seemed like she had heard the name before, but she had forgotten.

“Of course you can.” The nurse smiled brightly.

“Who’s Mike?” Lara finally asked after mustering up the courage.

“Is he your master?” Lara asked, even though she could already guess the man mentioned by these two people.

“Sorry miss, I forgot to introduce myself.” Evan took a step forward. “My name is Evan. I am Mr. Mike’s confidant. And it’s true what the lady said earlier, Mike is our master. And he is your mate.”

“I think you’re wrong.” Lara immediately denied. She tried to remember where she heard Mike’s name.

“There’s no way I’m your master’s partner.” It surprised Lara when she remembered the man named Mike.

“I have to go. I can’t stay here forever!” She tried to get out of bed again.

“Aww!” Having just set foot on the floor, Lara had already fallen. Blood seeped from her clothes.

“Please don’t do anything to get yourself hurt.” Evan said as he helped Lara back to the bed.

“If anything happens to you, our master will be furious.” Evan told her in a serious tone.

Lara lowered her face. She still couldn’t believe it, but her weakened position made her choose to remain silent. She had to wait until her health recovered. And after that, she would decide what she would do.

After that, Evan reported it to Mike. And at the same time, a woman suddenly walked in and interrupted their conversation.

“Who is that woman you brought Mike?” Suzanne asked in a displeased tone. Her arms were folded across her chest. Her gaze showed clear jealousy.

“Don’t bring just anyone. We don’t know her background. And I heard that woman is a rogue.” Suzanne continued to speak, not letting Mike interrupt her. “How could you bring a woman like that into this pack?”

Suzanne was the partner of Mike’s brother who died five years ago. Mike promised to take care of Suzanne. And he respected Suzanne like he respected his brother.

But there was a limit to what Suzanne should know. The man she was protesting against was the leader of their group.

“Watch your mouth!” Mike snapped.

Suzanne widened her eyes in shock. Without realizing it, she stepped back. Mike had never yelled at her, but because of that woman, his attitude had changed drastically like this.

“She’s not a rogue!” Mike defended the woman he didn’t even know. “I had a clear reason why I had to take her.”

“Why?” Suzanne immediately asked curiously.

“She is my mate.” Mike said firmly.

“Are you serious?” Suzanne stared in disbelief. Her hands were clenched. The deep corners of her heart felt disappointed and broken.

All this time, Suzanne hoped Mike would forget about his mate and accept her. But what happened did not match her expectations.

“Do I look like I’m joking?” Mike looked at Suzanne sternly. There was no joking there.

Suzanne was speechless. “With all due respect, I apologize for my inappropriate actions earlier. I was just worried about this pack and you. In that case, I’ll take my leave.” Suzanne bowed and turned her body towards the door.

“Wait!” Mike stopped her. Suzanne turned to Mike.

“My mate is an innocent woman. I hope you’ll look after her and teach her how to defend herself..”

Reflecting on what happened, Mike thought his woman should learn to defend herself. And Suzanne was a woman he could trust.

‘Are you crazy?’ Suzanne protested inwardly. How could she be nice to a woman who had taken her position?

“All right, Mike. I’ll do as you ask.” Suzanne said deceitfully. For now, she would follow Mike’s orders before getting rid of the woman.
