Chapter 05. Lara's Hesitation

Lara gulped down her saliva. She couldn’t sleep even though the bed was so soft. The luxurious room with the king-sized bed made her look like an ant in the middle of a flower bed.

She woke up and patted her face repeatedly. Realizing whether this was a dream or real. Unfortunately, it was real.

“Do I deserve this?” Her voice was low and her gaze seemed to be in disbelief that she could enjoy sleeping in this bed.

Lara looked around. Clearly, this room belonged to someone in a high position. Someone she didn’t deserve to have.

“Is that guy really my mate?” Lara muttered.

Lara had never dreamed of having a high-class mate before. Her dream was very simple. To have an ordinary mate as her husband and live happily ever after.

“What were you thinking until you made that expression?” A familiar male voice made Lara turn her head to the side.

A handsome man with an extraordinary aura was observing her and it made Lara hurriedly get off the bed.

“Stay right there.” Mike ordered. He loosened his tie. Folded his shirtsleeves up to his elbows.

“You haven’t answered my question.” Mike demanded an answer.

“I’m sorry, sir.” Lara replied, but that wasn’t the answer Mike wanted.

‘Why is this woman always apologizing?’ he thought.

Their first meeting also started with an apology.

“You didn’t do anything wrong, so there’s no need to apologize.” Mike sat on the edge of the bed.

Lara nodded, but kept her face down. She didn’t dare look at Mike’s face.

“Raise your head. Don’t hide your beauty from me.” Mike complimented, but the truth was that this woman was beautiful.

The whole world knew that Mike was a cruel and evil man. But in front of this woman, his dark side turned into a gentleman. Mike didn’t know why he could behave like this. It seems to be his natural instinct towards his mate.

Lara was still silent. There were many things she was thinking about. What if this man misjudged her, and she wasn’t his partner? Would he return her to her father?

“What’s wrong? Aren’t you going to show me your face?” Mike smiled slightly. He was known to be an impatient person, but for this woman? He had so much patience.

“I’m sorry, sir.” Lara finally dared to look at Mike. That handsome face seemed to hypnotize her for a moment. But she soon realized that she didn’t deserve to have him.

“I think you’re wrong. There’s no way your mate is me.” Lara looked deeply into Mike’s eyes.

“So you think I was wrong?” Mike let out a long breath. He averted his face, then looked back at the gray eyes that showed fear and trauma.

He already knew what his mate had gone through. And he wasn’t going to keep quiet about it.

Lara was stunned, unable to answer.

“I will repay you for all your kindness.” She squeezed the blanket.

“Don’t reject me.” Mike touched Lara’s cheek. “I don’t like rejection. You’re my mate. Whether you agree or not, you have to accept it. Because this is your destiny.”

The touch felt warm and soothing.

Seeing Lara enjoying the caress, Mike started to move closer.

“What are you doing?” Lara’s eyes widened in shock. But she couldn’t avoid Mike.

“If you still don’t believe it, there is one way that can prove that you are my mate or not.” Mike whispered, and that made Lara pull herself a little away.

What happened just now?

Mike’s touch made Lara forget everything. Her heart was beating fast and her body suddenly felt hot.

“How?” Lara asked curiously.

“By making love, my sweet.” Mike said in a sexy and seductive tone.

Lara immediately pulled the blanket and moved away from Mike. She looked at him warily.

Mike laughed out loud at his partner’s response.

“Excuse me, Mr. Mike.” A male voice sounded from outside the door.

Mike turned his head. He already knew who was outside. “Come in!”

Evan opened the door. He stepped closer. His expression made it clear what was going on at the moment. He wouldn’t disturb his master if it wasn’t an important and urgent matter.

“Those filthy bugs are here again.” He said one sentence and Mike immediately nodded in understanding.

“Like I told you, kill all those pesky bugs. And don’t bother me with insignificant bugs.”

Lara shuddered at Mike’s order, but somehow she felt that they weren’t talking about bugs.

Mike looked at Lara. A smile spread across his lips.

“But this time there is one important bug, sir..”

Mike looked at Evan. His expression instantly changed. His gaze was sharp and serious.

“Get some rest.” Mike stood up. He gave Lara a gentle smile. “I’ll be right back.”

Lara nodded. She looked at Mike and Evan until the door closed.

Mike walked quickly, while Evan followed behind.

“Suzanne!” A woman’s scream made them rush to the location.

“Oh, my gosh! Your head is bleeding!” Bianca, Suzanne’s close friend, looked at her in panic.

“No need to worry. I’m fine.” Suzanne noticed Mike’s presence and pretended that she was fine. Even though her head was dizzy from being hit by the man.

“How dare you hurt her!” Mike stepped quickly, choking the neck of the man who had hurt Suzanne.

“Take Suzanne inside.” Mike growled with emotion.

Bianca picked Suzanne up. Bringing her in and some of their pack started to come out.

“Let go of me!” The man groaned. He struggled, but his strength was no match for Mike’s.

A few seconds later, the sound of something breaking made the man fall silent. Mike threw the lifeless body in front of the three people who just watched without helping their partner.

“Move forward and you’ll end up like him!”
