Chapter 76

My eyes narrowed at the cheap impersonation of me, not at all impressed by what I was seeing. “Who are you?” I tried to keep the irritation out of my voice, but it was almost impossible.

Her gaze was on me, and she was staring at me with an open mouth, twisting a lock in her hand. Was she dumb? What was so hard to comprehend in the question that I asked that she was taking hours to answer?

“Are you deaf, or can’t you respond?" I barked, but I regretted it almost immediately because my forehead flared in pain.

I massaged my forehead with my finger, trying to soothe the pain. I was sure she was the one adding to it, because there was no way someone was this dumb.

She took one look at me, her pupil widening a bit as she connected the dot, and she was looking back into the room.

“Alex? There is a strange woman at the door.” Her voice was shrill and annoying. It was quite similar to those girls that play high school bitches, and it was giving me a major headache.
