I stood at the staircase, observing the intense exchange between Clarissa and my mother. Despite her efforts to remain respectful, it was evident that Clarissa had reached her limit with my mum's constant belittling. My mother, with a superiority complex, always looked down on Clarissa and it was a sore spot for her.

"You need to stop calling me a rich brat," Clarissa said, her voice firm but still respectful. "It's not my fault I was born into privilege."

My mum sneered, "You may have money, but that doesn't give you the right to talk to me like that."

I felt torn between supporting Clarissa and not wanting to openly scold my own mother.

Clarissa's eyes narrowed. "It's not about the money, it's about the way you look down on me all the time. Just because I have money doesn't mean I'm a bad person."

"Oh please," my mum scoffed. "Soon, you'd control Jalen and tell him to chase us out of the pack house."
