101: Free To Be Me

Avery’s POV

The clerk’s resonating voice jolted me out of my thought, “Court!!” My legs felt jittery immediately I stood up and the judge smiled at me before walking out of the courtroom briskly.

Barrister Micheal said, “Congratulations Miss Avery, we won!”

Instantly I felt the burden of my arranged marriage lift off my chest, three years of losing myself and my dreams. Tears of joy streamed down my cheeks as I held the table for support, Jamal and Emma walked up to me and wrapped me in a comforting embrace.

Emma stroked my back while my shoulders shook vehemently. Jamal kept patting my hair whispering, “Now you are free, Ave.”

My heart felt so light, Liam has been a huge thorn in my flesh in the last two years I've been with him. Pulling away from Emma and Jamal they both had the biggest smiles on their faces, “You did it, girl!” Emma shouted.

Stroking my baby bump I smiled warmly, I was so grateful the judge could see beyond Liam’s facade and gave the right verdict. We all strolled
