Chapter 7: "Polaris Café"

I woke up very early and went to the café. My house is near so I was able to go to work earlier than the others. Although I’m still sleepy because of being a cook on Stargazer every night, I was able to cook for Polaris every morning, simply because I love my work. When I love something, I will do everything for it. As I arrived at the café, I noticed that it was already open. Hmm… Is Renzo-hyung not tired of last night? He’s too early… I thought. Then the door opened and Miko emerged from it.
“Sean-hyung! I’m earlier than you! Renzo-hyung said he will leave the responsibility of Polaris to us today. He and Ayla-noona went to Jeju Island for a one week vacation.” Miko explained all to me.” I wonder why. He seldom leaves the café to us, all by ourselves.” He continued caressing his chin.
I smiled. If only you know Miko… It’s because he knows we’re safer now.
“Hey Miko, you’re early today. Are you sick?” I heard Yosef-hyung spoke and I turned around to look at him. I saw dark circles under his eyes and wonder why he didn’t get enough sleep last night. Is it because of JD? I thought.
“Haha! Hyung! The dark circles under your eyes are worse than mine!” Miko beats me in teasing Yosef-hyung.
“Shut up, maknae. Or else you’ll get a black eye instead of eye bags.” Yosef-hyung replied.
“Hey, easy Yosef-hyung! Maknae is just kidding… Right maknae?” Aikon luckily arrived. I noticed hyung calmed down and entered the café.
“You better shut your mouth Miko. Yosef-hyung looked like he had a bad morning. You better not worsen his mood.” Aikon advised Miko and followed Yosef-hyung inside. Miko looked puzzled to his words. Aist! What a clueless kid! I thought. I approached him and tapped his shoulder before entering the café too. It will be a day finally with JD. I want to ask him more about Mythi. I smiled.

MIKO
I scratched my head, still not understanding my hyungs; Yosef-hyung’s mood, Aikon-hyung’s words and Sean-hyung’s action. I shrugged and entered the café.
“Where is JD?!” Yosef-hyung’s voice welcomed me. “It was his first day and yet he’s late?! What kind of employee is he?!” he continued. We are all silent not knowing what to say. Then I heard a car’s engine getting near. I glanced outside. I froze. A white Bentley was parking beside the café and I wonder why there is an early customer for us.
“Omo! Sean-hyung! We don’t have anything to serve right? What are we going to do?!” I desperately asked and glanced at them one by one but no one’s listening to me. Their eyes are all glued to the Bentley. The driver’s door opened and a handsome man stepped out with a boyish grin and Polaris’ uniform… Wait! A Polaris’ uniform?! The man took off his sun glasses and look up at the café… I remembered this man’s face. Those fierce eyes, boyish grin, childish gait… Waah! It’s Black Dragon! Or rather, JD-hyung, our patissier.
“He’s here Yosef-hyung. No need to get angry now…” My voice trailed as he glared at me. Sorry. I mouthed.

“Haizt! D*mn this traffic early in the morning!” I impatiently honk my horn repeatedly as I was literally stuck in the middle of a long line of cars going on the same way as me. I’m really late on my first day as a patissier. Thanks to this traffic. But I admit I woke up late too because of last night. Not because I got tired of being a D.J. and overslept. It was because of her. My goddess. Not because I dreamt of her on my sleep but it was because I can’t sleep just by thinking of her. She had an addicting effect on me and I dunno why. I sighed. I wonder who she is. I sighed. Maybe I wouldn’t be seeing her again. I sighed. D*mn! This traffic is pissing me off!

JD
I finally arrived at the Polaris café after being annoyed a while ago. Renzo-hyung was not here for a week. He and Ayla-noona went to Jeju Island for a vacation. How I wish I was with them. I sighed. I parked my white Bentley and got off immediately. I’m late! I looked up at the structure in front of me and took off my sun glasses. So this is Polaris. I wasn’t able to take a good look at it. I’m amazed on how elegant and clean it looks. A café painted white signifies purity and peace. It was cleverly lined with black that airs a sense of elegance. Hyung really planned this thoughtfully. I smiled and entered the café.

AIKON
“You’re late.” Yosef-hyung quietly said when JD entered the café. He looked at us.
“Sorry. I’ll just double my work.” Yosef-hyung was about to speak when I saw Sean tapped his shoulder and shook his head. I understand Sean. We don’t want a disaster to happen early in the morning.
“Good morning Sean!” JD greeted him cheerfully. “Hello Miko-maknae!” he greeted him too. “Oh, hi Kon!” he then turned to me. I just raised my hand to acknowledge him. Then he finally went inside the pastry kitchen. Wait! Did he just called me Kon? Woah! That’s a new nickname for me. I unconsciously smiled. Then I saw Yosef-hyung smirked and went to his position. Sean and Miko prepared for their work too. Okay, back to work now. I thought as I prepare the coffee brewer. Then suddenly, JD poked his head out of the pastry door and called out.
“Hey Kon! Is there any apples? I just wanna try a new recipe.” I saw his big smile and wondered again if we will get along well. He’s alright now but his expression changes unexpectedly every now and then. I wonder if we can handle that well. Anyway, he’d only been with us less than 24 hours and I think and hope Yosef-hyung will like him soon.
“It’s on the refrigerator.” I answered him. I sighed and continued what I’m doing.

YOSEF
That Black dragon! How can he just tell those words coolly to me?! He’s pissing me off! And to think he’s just new here? Even though he’s the number one agent of Dark Knight, it doesn’t means that he can act superior at work. I’m still the one in charge when Renzo-hyung is not here. I’m losing my patience and I wonder how long it would take before it explodes. My phone suddenly beeped. Someone texted me.
Yosef, I’m sorry I got drunk last night. Thank you for taking me home.
It was from Calli. She’s already awake at this early time? I asked myself. I wonder why. I sighed and texted her back. Calli calms me down. That’s her effect on me. I like Calli and I know she likes me too. But I’m afraid to pursue her because she’ll be involved on my work and I won’t allow that. I don’t want her to get hurt. I don’t want to risk her life. I wonder how Renzo-hyung was able to protect Ayla-noona. They’ve been together for years now but nothing bad happened to her. I wish I can be as brave as him. But sometimes, I wanted to risk it and tell Calli I love her. I really want to be with her. I sighed. I noticed the other employees arrived one by one and greeted me. In an hour, customers will come for breakfast and we need to be prepared by that time. I stood up to give them instructions.

JADEN We chose a table near the DJ booth. This is the first time Danny-hyung and I will DJ in front of a large crowd. I’m so nervous and excited at the same time! Like JD-hyung, we love music so much that we even formed a band. Danny-hyung is the drummer, Jun on bass guitar, David on lead vocals and I’m on the lead guitar. Our other friends, Sam and Mama, are on the piano and rhythm guitar respectively. We all sing the back up vocals too. We also compose songs for the band and do covers of our favorite songs. Our band is called “Étoile”, french word for “stars.” We chose that name because our goal is to become stars that people will look up to.
