Jarren’s POV

It’s been an entire two weeks since I talked to Jillie. She was avoiding me. She didn’t sit beside me in classes, and she’d find some excuse to tell the others why she wasn’t in the cafeteria for lunch. It was driving me up the wall. I didn’t know what to say to people when they asked what was going on with her. I didn’t know what to say when people asked if we were still together. I knew the answer, but saying it out loud would finalize it, and I couldn’t deal with that.

I made my way to Drama and took a seat at our table. This was the one class that Jillie sat remotely close to me in. I too

I turned off the shower and wrapped a towel around myself. I dried off and slipped on my yellow panties and bra before putting the towel in the hamper and walking out of the bathroom. I stopped in my tracks when I saw Jarren sitting on the window seat. I paused for a moment before opening my top drawer. I pulled out some shorts and a tank top and slipped them on quickly. He didn’t say anything. I walked over and sat on my bed slowly. It was silent for what felt like hours.“What do you want?” I finally asked softly.“To talk to you.” He stood up and took something out of his pocket. He took a step toward me, held out the little bottle, and gave it to me. “Just hear me out. If you think that I’ll hurt you, just use this.” &nb

I finished eating my breakfast and loaded the dishes into the dishwasher. After I was done, I walked into the living room and sat on the couch beside my dad. “James Bond” was on. It had to be one of his all-time favorite movies. We sat there and watched it together. I loved spending time with my dad, even if we were silent the entire time. Once the movie was done, I made my way back up the stairs and into my room. I picked up my phone and noticed I had four missed calls. One from Jarren, One from Alyx, and two from my cousin Kaileeh. I called her back first.“Hello,” she answered on the second ring.“Hey cousin, what’s up?”“Hey Jillie, nothing much,

The cabin was about two and a half hours out. The sun had begun to set by the time we got there. I got out of the car and opened the trunk, pulling out my suitcase and Jillie’s while Mason grabbed his and Alyx’s luggage. I led the way to the front door and opened it, flipping on the light once inside the house. The girls looked around in awe. Mason had been here before.“Come on, babe. Let’s put our bags up,” Mason told Alyx. She nodded and followed him down the hall.“This is beautiful,” Jillie said, still looking around. She resembled a child in a toy store.I chuckled. “Let’s go put these bags up.” I led the way down the hall and stopped at the first room. Walking inside, I flipped the light switch. I walked over to the closet and sat my luggage down. I turned around and saw Jillie lying back on the bed.“Come on.”“Where are w

Jarren’s POV It was just my luck that Valentine’s Day fell on a Monday. Oh well. I’d skipped the first few classes of school. I had to find the perfect present for Jillie. I know what you’re thinking. Why am I last-minute shopping? Well, I’m not. I’d been trying to find the right present for a week now. I was beginning to get frustrated.“Mom, what am I going to do?” I asked, taking a seat on the couch in her office.“About what?“Valentine’s Day.”She looked up. “Still no present?” I shook my head. “Did you go to the jeweler?&rd

It was twisted and intertwined together. On the twisted bands, it had: Jillie, Jarren, For Ever. I was shocked when I noticed the words were shimmering. How was that possible?“It’s a vampire thing,” he replied to my silent question.“Jarren, this is so beautiful,” I whispered.“Well, I was hoping to get something as beautiful as you, but I couldn’t find anything, so I settled for

Unknown POV I watched them as they got out of the car. I’d been waiting six damn hours for her to get home. I was furious to see him with her, but I knew that’s where she’d be. I was even more enraged when I saw him getting out of the car with her. They walked to the door together, and she looked around. Maybe trying to see if her parents were pulling in. Stupid leech. He didn’t even know I was watching him. Didn’t even know I was there. How could he possibly protect her if he couldn’t even sense me? I watched her close the door behind him. Jillie’s POV I watched as he trailed off and grew silent. I waited on him to continue, but he didn’t. Seconds went by, and then minutes. It was like he was in a trance. He seemed to be watching the scene take place. “Jarren,” I said softly, but it was enough to snap him out of it. He looked at me. “What happened next?” He took a deep breath. “That’s just it, Jillie. I’m not sure. All I know is that when I woke up the next morning, Annabelle was dead.” I gasped. “Did you……?” I trialed off. “Kill her? I thought I didn’t; I knew I couldn’t have. I climbed into the backseat of Dad’s Bentley and headed toward the airport. The ride was silent except for the music on the radio. I was excited as we got closer to the airport. I hadn’t seen Kaileeh since July, and I’d missed her. We pulled into the airport parking lot and found a space close to the doors. I hopped out of the car, s

Jillie’s POV I took a deep breath. My hands were both shaking. I’d been avoiding this for two weeks now. It was too painful. I knelt in front of the headstone. Running my fingers over the engraved words, tears slowly ran down my cheeks. “Hey, Mal,” I stated through my tears. “I’m sorry I didn’t come sooner. I just couldn’t live with the guilt of knowing this happened because of me.” I stated quietly. “But the guilt I felt for leaving your funeral early and trying to stay away outweighed that.” I took another deep breath. “This sucks, Mal. This really is unfair. We were supposed to make up, and everything was supposed to get better between us. It wasn’t supposed to happen like this. Me sitting here crying my eyes out and talking to your headstone.” I paused for a minute. “We were supposed to do so much together. Go to college, get married, and have kids. Oh, speaking of kids, Alyx is pregnant. I know she wasn’t your favorite person, but I also know how much you like kids.”

I then looked around the room for Jillie. “Where did Jillie go?” I asked, panicking.“She and Kaileeh headed that way. I think there’s a door over there.” Garret stated.“Who screamed earlier?” I asked. I’d been so occupied that I hadn’t stopped to see who it was. I just knew it wasn’t Jillie. My eyes scanned the room until they landed on Mallory on the floor in a pool of blood. I then saw Mina on the floor as well. I shook my head. She was the only vampire I knew that could be easily

Even if the three weren’t bound, they’d still be highly outnumbered.“Malinda,” Nyx stated, drawing my attention.“I already told you I don’t know who Malinda is,” I stated calmly.“You’re in denial, my dear. You’ll remember soon enough.” Oh wow. He really was insane. Not just the crazy I’m going to kill you all insane, but t

Jarren’s POV I watched as she tossed and turned. There was absolutely nothing I could do for her. Reid had already given her a sedative, but it wasn’t working. What was happening to her? I heard her say my name a few times, but that was it. At first, I couldn’t make out the rest of what she was saying.“Jarren, stop it!” She screamed. I looked at everyone in the room, confused.“Stop what, Piccolo?” I asked, moving closer to the bed. I let out a hiss as pain ripped through my right side. What the hell was that? I lift my shirt slowly to see a wound. It looked like fire hit me. I could feel all eyes in th

Jarren's POVMaking my way through the trees, I ran nowhere in particular. Just trying to run my frustration out. I’d been moving for hours, running to the next city over and beyond before returning. I was still a bit agitated. I continued to run until I was outside Jillie’s house. It was after two in the morning. I knew she was sleeping, but I couldn’t stop myself from waking her. I pulled out my phone and hit her speed dial button. It rang five times before going to voicemail. I hung up and called again. This time she answered on the fourth ring.“Hello,” she answered groggily.“Come outside.”“Okay.” I could hear her moving around. “Give me a minute,” she stated before hanging up. I slipped my phone back into my pocket. I crossed my arms over my chest and leaned against the house. I couldn’t go inside for what I

Unknown POV It was all coming together now. Everything I’d worked so hard for the last hundred and fifty-plus years was coming true. It took me a while to get to this point, but the reward at the end would be well worth it. Rising from my seat, I made my way to the window. Looking out, I was met by the vast expanse of trees.
