Jillie’s POV

“Daddy, come on. Her plane lands in forty minutes.” I yelled at my Dad. It was Thursday, and we were supposed to pick up Kaileeh from the airport.

“I’m coming, princess.” He made his way from his room in the back, and we headed out the door with Mom.

I climbed into the backseat of Dad’s Bentley and headed toward the airport. The ride was silent except for the music on the radio. I was excited as we got closer to the airport. I hadn’t seen Kaileeh since July, and I’d missed her.

We pulled into the airport parking lot and found a space close to the doors. I hopped out of the car, s

Jillie's POV“I met my husband Demetri when I was about eighteen. In the time I’d grown up in, I’d been a woman for about two years. It was customary for fathers to pick their daughter’s husbands. Well, like most young women of that era, I didn’t object or refuse when my father told me that I was to marry Gordon Peterson. He was the son of a wealthy banker. Even though I knew Gordon was a terribly spoiled brat, and he was quite a little snot,” she said, chuckling. “Anyway, I held my contentment in. It was disrespectful to object to your father’s wishes. A few weeks went by, and I was completely miserable. I’d always loved the moonlight, so I went for a walk one night. I’d made it to the end of the street, and I saw him just under the street lantern. It was the first time I’d ever laid eyes on Demetri.”

Jillie's POVShe stopped talking, and we watched it play out in front of us. There was no sound, but I could tell the conversation was a mix of anger, fear, hurt, and betrayal on Nunny’s part, but when I looked at Demetri’s face, all I could see was the love he held for her.“We sat in that room until the sun rose. Him trying to explain and calm down my hysterics the entire time. He then asked me, ’Am I any different from the man you fell in love with? Am I such a monster to you now that you can’t see that man?’ When he asked me that, my whole resolve cracked because he was right. He was still the man I’d fallen in love with. The man that I’d married. The man that I still loved. Admittedly, I was still a little frightened, but he hadn’t hurt me the entire time, and I knew he wouldn’t now. Days we

Jarren’s POV I closed my locker and headed to first period as the bell rang. I hadn’t seen Jillie, so I was assuming she was late. I walked into the classroom and took my seat at the back. I lay my head on the desk and pretended to be asleep. I learned that girls were less likely to try to talk to me if they thought I was sleeping. I sat in class that way the entire time until the bell rang. I made my way to Chemistry and sat at my table. Jillie came in a few minutes later with a girl with black hair. She and Jillie had a few of the same facial features, and she was short like Jillie. She was only a little taller. Maybe about five foot three or so. Jillie took a stool from an emp

Jillie’s POV I hadn’t seen Jarren since Friday night when he told me about the prophecy in the vampire book. It was still hard for me to believe. I didn’t know if I really did or not. I knew he was spending time with his cousin, but I still missed him. I knew, however, that he would come during the middle of the night. I’ve woken up the past three mornings with Crocus flowers on my nightstand. He was so sweet. I was sitting in front of my mirror, putting the finishing touches on my makeup. It was almost eight, and Mason’s party was due to start any minute. I’d just finished when Kaileeh appeared in my vision.“Yo

It was two in the morning by the time we left. I was tired. Kaileeh actually fell asleep on the ride home. When I pulled into the driveway, I shook her and woke her up. I then noticed that Elise’s Charger was parked. Oh great. I’m definitely looking forward to this week at the cabin. We made it inside the house, and all the lights were off. I whispered a goodnight to Kaileeh as I trudged up the stairs to my room in the dark. I opened my door and closed it before flipping the switch on. I nearly jumped out of my skin. Lying on my bed was Jarren, and Garret was sitting in my computer chair.“Remind me to start keeping holy water and a lighter handy,” I mumbled. They both chuckled. “Seriously, what would you guys have done if Kaileeh had been with me?”

Jarren's POV I woke up the following day, and it was after ten. I pulled on a pair of jeans and a blue long-sleeve sweater. I grabbed a suitcase and started putting clothes in it. Once I was done, I headed into the kitchen. Garret was sitting at the bar.“I made breakfast.” He stated. I walked over to the stove and saw bacon, eggs, and oatmeal. I fixed myself a plate and sat at the bar beside him. We ate in silence. Once I was done, I put my plate into the dishwasher and warmed up a blood package. When it was done, I poured it into a glass and gulped it down. I was really getting tired of packaged blood.“Are you packed?” I asked.“Yeah.”“Good, we’re leaving in about ten minutes.” He nodded, and I walked out of the kitchen. I went to my ro

Jarren's POV The rest of the ride was silent. No one was talking. Everyone simply thinking. Needless to say, the game came to an end. I felt terrible for giving Kaileeh that dare and wished I could take it back, but I couldn’t. We pulled up to the cabin about thirty minutes later. I gave Jillie the key, and she and Kaileeh headed inside while Garret and I got the bags from the trunk.“So, what do you think?” Garret asked.“I think that we need to talk to Nunny.”“I agree, but do you think Kaileeh’s the one?”“Well, you said you think she’s your soul mate, but we won’t know for sure if she&rsquo

Jillie’s POV I took a deep breath. My hands were both shaking. I’d been avoiding this for two weeks now. It was too painful. I knelt in front of the headstone. Running my fingers over the engraved words, tears slowly ran down my cheeks. “Hey, Mal,” I stated through my tears. “I’m sorry I didn’t come sooner. I just couldn’t live with the guilt of knowing this happened because of me.” I stated quietly. “But the guilt I felt for leaving your funeral early and trying to stay away outweighed that.” I took another deep breath. “This sucks, Mal. This really is unfair. We were supposed to make up, and everything was supposed to get better between us. It wasn’t supposed to happen like this. Me sitting here crying my eyes out and talking to your headstone.” I paused for a minute. “We were supposed to do so much together. Go to college, get married, and have kids. Oh, speaking of kids, Alyx is pregnant. I know she wasn’t your favorite person, but I also know how much you like kids.”

I then looked around the room for Jillie. “Where did Jillie go?” I asked, panicking.“She and Kaileeh headed that way. I think there’s a door over there.” Garret stated.“Who screamed earlier?” I asked. I’d been so occupied that I hadn’t stopped to see who it was. I just knew it wasn’t Jillie. My eyes scanned the room until they landed on Mallory on the floor in a pool of blood. I then saw Mina on the floor as well. I shook my head. She was the only vampire I knew that could be easily

Jillie’s POV I watched as they were all secured to a wall with what looked like metal shackling. I was held in place by one of his many goons. I surveyed the room and counted thirteen of them. Even if the three weren’t bound, they’d still be highly outnumbered.“Malinda,” Nyx stated, drawing my attention.“I already told you I don’t know who Malinda is,” I stated calmly.“You’re in denial, my dear. You’ll remember soon enough.” Oh wow. He really was insane. Not just the crazy I’m going to kill you all insane, but t

Jarren’s POV I watched as she tossed and turned. There was absolutely nothing I could do for her. Reid had already given her a sedative, but it wasn’t working. What was happening to her? I heard her say my name a few times, but that was it. At first, I couldn’t make out the rest of what she was saying.“Jarren, stop it!” She screamed. I looked at everyone in the room, confused.“Stop what, Piccolo?” I asked, moving closer to the bed. I let out a hiss as pain ripped through my right side. What the hell was that? I lift my shirt slowly to see a wound. It looked like fire hit me. I could feel all eyes in th

Jarren's POVMaking my way through the trees, I ran nowhere in particular. Just trying to run my frustration out. I’d been moving for hours, running to the next city over and beyond before returning. I was still a bit agitated. I continued to run until I was outside Jillie’s house. It was after two in the morning. I knew she was sleeping, but I couldn’t stop myself from waking her. I pulled out my phone and hit her speed dial button. It rang five times before going to voicemail. I hung up and called again. This time she answered on the fourth ring.“Hello,” she answered groggily.“Come outside.”“Okay.” I could hear her moving around. “Give me a minute,” she stated before hanging up. I slipped my phone back into my pocket. I crossed my arms over my chest and leaned against the house. I couldn’t go inside for what I

Unknown POV It was all coming together now. Everything I’d worked so hard for the last hundred and fifty-plus years was coming true. It took me a while to get to this point, but the reward at the end would be well worth it. Rising from my seat, I made my way to the window. Looking out, I was met by the vast expanse of trees. Secluded and, at the same time, visible.“Brother.”“Have a seat. I have something I want you to do for me, sister.”“I’m listening.”“There’s a full moon Friday night. This is what I need you to do….”
