PERSY
I was going to die.
My stomach grumbled and my throbbing feet cried in protest but I did not stop running. I couldn't. They were after me. Not one, not two, but three huge men ran behind me, cussing at me and shouting on top of their voices.
The sounds of their heavy footsteps drew nearer and nearer as I dashed through the street, causing me to increase my pace with every passing second. These people were hell-bent on catching up with me, and who knew what they planned to do to me—a rotten thief, from their perspective? How would they know that this was the first time in my life that I had ever taken something that did not belong to me? They probably thought that I did this often; after all, I was dressed in an oversized coat, pants and hat, covering myself up like I was some serial killer.
"Stop right there! Someone catch that thief!" I heard one of them holler.
Another one added, "If I lay my hands on you, I swear you'll pray for death!" My heart literally jumped into my mouth at his brute words and I ran even faster, trying hard to ignore the pangs of hunger as it came in full force.
I had only stolen this piece of bread from that store because I could not bear the hunger any longer. I was not a thief, but desperate times called for desperate measures. Two days without any food at all left me with no option than to do this. Yes, it was utterly wrong and I should not have done it, but I just wanted to survive because no matter how much I missed Pa and Ma, I knew they would not want me coming to join them now. It was simply too early.
Beads of perspiration clung to my forehead like second skin and goosebumps covered my skin as I sprinted towards the busy road. Without giving it much thought, I began to run across the road absentmindedly as usual, tuning out everything—the sound of the cars honking, tires screeching, even the small bells from bicycles. The only thing that filled my head was the need to escape.
It was actually a very dumb move. Somehow, I managed to trip and fall when I had almost gotten to the other side and I started to get dizzy from starvation as I tried my best to get up. My luck seemed to run out, however, because suddenly, my whole body wasn't co-operating with me and I just lay on my side, clutching the loaf of bread to my upset stomach as I prayed for miracle.
It did not take long before I felt strong arms wrap around my torso and I started to shake my head, too lazy to even peel my eyelids open… or maybe it was because the light had become to bright for my dizzy eyes.
They had finally gotten me, but I wasn't going down without a fight.
I began to wiggle weakly in the stranger's arms but this only caused him to tighten his grip and spit at my face, "You better stay still, you wretch, or so help me God…"
God, he reeked of alcohol. Nothing like the sweet-smelling bread I had stolen from his store.
I fisted the bread tighter, still holding it against my stomach. I let him carry me to the other side of the road again, and then I attacked. I tilted my head to the side a little, then I closed my teeth around the man's flesh until I drew blood and once his grip loosened, I jumped down from his arms.
"Why, you fucker!" He yelled at me, but I was already running again, even with wobbly knees. I did not make it far this time. One minute, I was sure that I was going to escape the store owners and the next minute, I was staring wide-eyed at expensive looking leather black boots. Someone had suddenly appeared in front of me, causing me to come to a halt. No, no, not now.
After trying to side-step the huge man twice, whilst keeping my gaze on the ground to hide my face and he did not budge, I snarled, "What are you doing? Move!"
My words were hardly audible with a face mask covering my mouth, but that was the least of my worries at the moment.
"Do you even know what you have done?" He snarled back at me, but I was not in the mood to chit-chat, so I tried to side-step him again. He stopped me, again.
"Are you even listening? Look over there, you ruined my boss's car! He might miss an important meeting because of you. You better start praying that the other car arrives in time. Also, I noticed you're being chased; I figured I should help them get you, you menace." He barked at me. I turned at the same time and gasped in utter shock as I spotted the damage I had allegedly caused. An Audi had just crashed into a pole and was half damaged. I was so dead; I was so fucking dead.
I spotted another man standing at a far end, one hand in the pocket of his pants while the other fiddled with his phone. I could only see his side, but it was enough to know that the man was a big shot, and he looked really upset. Oh shit, shit. If this man threw me behind bars I was never going to come out. Who would save me? Certainly not my dead parents or my relatives who had forgotten about mu existence.
My stomach rumbled, and I was about to ask this man if I could hide somewhere and eat the bread before he handed me over to the store-owners, when I heard,
"There you are." On hearing the store owner's voice, I practically lurched myself into the expensive-looking stranger's arms. He pushed me away at once and scrunched up his nose. I smelled horrible; I knew it already, and I did not care.
The three men had lined up in front of us, glaring straight at me with murderous looks in their eyes. I went to hide behind the mysterious man, ignoring the way he glared at me when I did so. All the while, I made sure that my face was completely covered up with the hat on my head and a face mask. It was the last piece of dignity I had left—my identity.
"Give us the man, he has something of ours." One of them said, moving closer to us. Of course, they thought I was male. I shook my head no, but the mysterious man was already moving aside so they could have me.
"No, no, please!" I yelled but one of the store-owners grabbed my arm and yanked me to him, causing my hat to fall off from the force of the pull. My hair loosened and fell across my back, showing my face off almost completely. It was just the face mask left now.
I still held the loaf of bread with one hand to my chest like my life depended on it… because actually, my life depended on it.
People passed by with questioning glances, but they never actually stopped moving. The cars went by as usual, and the freezing wind did not relent. Everything was going on as usual, that was the thing about this part of New York.
The man who held me suddenly grew a smile on his ugly face and with one hand, ripped the face mask off my mouth. I was fully bare now… so much for dignity. My whole body shook with both fear and starvation now, but I still held the bread close, and tightly too. I could not just afford to let it go.
"Who would have thought our culprit was female? Such a beautiful girl, doing despicable things…" He purred, licking his lips as he gave me a once-over.
"Please, please leave me alone. I promise I'll never do this again, I'm just so hungry, I—" He did not let me finish, proceeding to forcefully wrap his arm around my torso to pick me off the ground but then a loud, authoritative voice interrupted,
"Let her go."
We all looked at the direction of the voice at the same time and I used to opportunity to escape the man's hold. I was still trapped in the middle of all the men though, so my only hope was being saved by the big shot whose car I accidentally crashed.
Now that I thought about it, I was probably in a worse situation now.
"And why should we listen to you?" One of them asked.
The rest chorused, "Yeah, why?"
He did not say anything for sometime, just watched me keenly as I quietly tried to open up the bread. My cheeks flamed red the moment our eyes met, and I really looked at him now. No doubt, he was easily the most intimidating man I had ever laid eyes upon. Not necessarily because of his physique; it was simply something about his aura.
Just looking at him, I could already tell that he had tons of women clamoring for his attention. You know how those books described men who were so devilishly handsome in a way that should be considered sin? Yeah, that was the situation here.
That sharp jawline, piercing gray eyes and jet black hair… everything about his face screamed front page. He was so tall, too. Lean, yet forbiddingly fit. Yeah, definitely way out of my league. Just like Callum, but I had gone ahead to love him so hard, even when the truth stared me dead in the eye. I was never good enough for these kind of men; everything about me was just too ordinary.
"You will let her go, because I will pay for what she had taken from your business. Sam." He beckoned at the mysterious man that had approached me and he nodded, taking out a wad of cash from his breast pocket. He moved forward and handed the cash over to one of the men.
I already had some bread in my mouth, but I had stopped chewing, staring wide-eyed at the crisp hundred dollar notes instead.
"That's too much!" I protested, not caring that my mouth was filled with food. They all ignored me, though.
"Thank you, Sir! She's all yours!" One yelled excitedly and the others followed suit with their appreciation. Then, without sparing me a second glance, they took off.
I was left with the two men, staring at me with deep concentration.
Slowly, I asked, "What do you want from me?"
Without missing a beat, he responded, "You will be coming with me."
PERSY It had to be my ears. Perhaps it was the hunger? I stuffed more bread into my mouth, just as a flashy BMW pulled up beside this man, whom I was now realizing that I had seen on our neighbor's faulty TV once. Though the screen of the TV was half-blind back then, I remembered seeing him clearly on the good side of the TV; I also recalled how my neighbor gushed over him. Apparently, this man was one of New York's hottest eligible billionaires. What did he want from me? Someone alighted the BMW, he wore the same ‘uniform’ as the first man whom I now recognized as the billionaire's driver. "What do you mean 'come with you'? I don't even know you…" You could be a serial killer, I thought, but I knew better than to say it out loud. Somehow, my eyes locked with the new driver's, who gave me a once over before exclaiming with shock in his eyes, "Holy Son!" I moved back a bit at the exclamation, but the billionaire in front of me just looked at me with a straight face, his eyes judg
AIDEN "The cameras have been installed now, Sir." Sam reported. "Everywhere? I need to know if she tries to do anything stupid." I said, leaning back against my office chair. "Everywhere, Sir. You can watch her every move now." Sam told me. "Alright. Make sure that no one else has access to the cameras, except the two of us." I instructed. "Copy, Sir." He answered, after which I ended the call. It had been two days since I found her; Kassie's exact doppelgänger in the flesh. As astonishing as my ex-girlfriend, even with the dirt which was all over her on the day I found her. And then when she got that makeover, I almost could not tell the difference. Regardless, the only thing the woman had in common with Kassie was her physical appearance. This one looked like she would be a handful. Kassie was very compliant, and hardly spoke if it was not necessary. She never liked appearing before the camera, which was why I was not taken aback when the store owners failed to recognize her.
PERSYOne hundred and fifty dollars was a big deal, there was no need to look at me like that. I let Aiden show me the different spots where I needed to sign and I did the necessary signings. I had almost forgotten my signature, because I rarely used it for anything. We hardly got enough food to start worrying about signatures. Even Trevor hardly needed my signature for anything; we lived in the same province, and his place was just slightly more comfortable than our rented flat which I got thrown out of immediately my parents died—two years ago.It seemed so long ago now. I had stayed with Trevor for two years, until he finally decided I was a burden and threw me out a month ago, too. It would only be a matter of time before I got discarded by Aiden as well, but at least I would be leaving with enough money to start a new life afterward."… are you even listening?" Aiden's sharp tone brought me back to reality, and I quickly donned a smile, trying to appear chill. Only thing was tha
AIDENPersy looked like she had seen a ghost, which was probably no different from how I looked at the moment, as well. What the hell did Pops mean by a proposal? He only said he needed Kassie around just to contribute to matters that would be discussed… he never said anything about a goddamn proposal."Father—""Be quiet, Aiden. You can say whatever is your problem later, allow her to proceed with the proposal first." He spoke in a warning tone, making sure to hold her gaze all the while.Persy began to fan herself using her palm, occasionally sharing a look with me. For the first time in a long while, I did not have the slightest idea on how to salvage the situation… I could only watch, while drumming my fingers on my thigh and praying for some kind of miracle."Uh… the proposal! Of course, how could I forget that?" Persy cried out like the dramatic woman she was. Pops' eyes lit up with anticipation, so did the other men in the meeting. Fuck. I wondered how they would take it when
PERSY I fully expected the creak sound that came from the door. In fact, I had freshened up and changed into neat set of clothes—jogger pants and a simple t-shirt, because of this. At least, if Aiden came around and decided that he wanted me to call his dad back and apologize, I had to look better, so the man could actually listen to me speak. "Who is it?" I asked, even if I knew that the only person who could access the room without knocking was Aiden. There was no answer; not that I had expected one, anyways. The door opened in seconds and Aiden materialized in front of it, all dressed in a gray suit and equally gray pants that matched his eyes, with his briefcase in his left hand. His cologne filled the room instantly, making me dizzy with fear, so much that I even began to murmur a quick prayer. He slammed the door shut behind him, his cold eyes meeting mine at once. I stopped the murmuring immediately, afraid he would call it something else. "Oh hey!" I called out, wearing a
AIDENFor some fucked up reason, I was hard as a rock by the time I left Persy's room. The mere idea of it had me riddled with shame. How could I be so turned on by that girl? I had a deviant taste, which consisted of me getting turned on by a woman or several women's pain. It was why I did not find it strange that seeing Persy cry had stirred up my cock right away. What I found strange however, was why the hard-on refused to lessen, even after she had gotten over her pain.I did not want to admit being interested in her, simply because I was not. I had not been interested in Kassie that way, and she looked exactly like Persy. I would find a way to kill this physical attraction, just because I wanted nothing to get in the way when we would finally want to terminate the contract.Until then, though. For now, I had to take care of the goddamn monster in my pants."Aiden Bates." I spoke into the phone as soon as the call went through. Gianna's high-pitched voice came in right away, "Oh,
PERSYI loved my new life. It could be a bit boring at times, and I did admit that I actually needed a friend or two, but for the most part, my life was going great. Just this afternoon, I ordered some designer wears online and proceeded to sit on the bed with some chicken wings in hand, resting against the headboard, legs crossed while watching a show on the laptop I got from Sam the other day. Aiden had already sent my first pay and it was barely two weeks into the contract. 150,000 dollars! I cried for a full hour, before sucking it up and dancing around the room like a maniac.I tried to call Aiden to say thank you, but he did not pick up, instead, he sent a text message which told me to send a text if I really needed something. I spent hours re-reading my text message to avoid being jabbed by him, and still, when I finally sent the message which consisted of just two short sentences, he sent another message correcting my tenses. I had been so close to sending him a ‘fuck you’ te
PERSY I could not stop thinking about it, and Aiden was not making things easy for me in any way. He kept sending all manner of uncouth messages to me, ones that left me hot and bothered in bed until I resorted to touching myself one fateful night under the duvet. I felt so filthy the next morning, and it did not help that he did not send any other messages from that night until today. That was two days ago, by the way. I decided to clear my head from all that today, by going out to have a drink by myself somewhere. Maybe a coffee shop, like I saw people do in movies. I received my designer clothes the day before, and currently, I was checking out blue cargo pants and the branded t-shirt which was one of the designer wears delivered to me. The fit was absolutely crazy! I was at the verge of sending the fifth message to the brand in the span of two hours just to tell them once again how amazing their t-shirt was, but I decided to let the urge go. I crowned the fit with a face cap,
Thank you for following up Aiden and Persy's story to the very end, you all are MVPs! Special thanks to everyone who voted, left comments, likes… I do not take your encouragement for granted and I would continue to dish out more scintillating books for you to enjoy…Now… I know you’re wondering what’s next already, which is what I plan to announce now! My next book would be coming up in July and is still the Billionaire genre, but this time, a tale of a billionaire music artist—Donovan, and a single mom—Clarissa… Excited yet?See you in July! ❤️
SEVEN MONTHS LATERPERSYI had just finished laying my child to sleep and right now, I was already tired of waiting for my husband, Aiden. I covered the duvet over my body, realizing that this was about to be yet another lonely night. It was almost eight weeks since I gave birth to my daughter, Carolyn, and we had stayed off sex just like the doctor advised. It was two months already since I had sex and I could not take it any longer now.I would tell him about it tomorrow… I promised myself, starting to doze off until the door slammed open and I heard,"Guess who just got an admission to study mechanical engineering in Roberta College for fall? Oh…"I sprung up from the bed though, before he could conclude that I was asleep. I was riddled with joy as I left the bed and ran to him, only stopping in front of him to ask,"Please tell me that this is not one of your expensive jokes…" I snatched the file he had in his hand away and started to check it out. He was grinning as he said, "Y
AIDENHer hormones were acting up. Since that day her ex boyfriend—whom I still wanted to gut his throat, by the way—brought her back to me, she was hornier than ever. She claimed it was the pregnancy hormones and would not stop touching me in public because of it. Whenever I refused to touch her before going to work, she would use a vibrator and went the video to me all of sudden, while I was WORKING.Not that I was complaining, I loved this side of her as much as I loved other sides of her. Persy has always been stubborn, it was nothing surprising at this point. The thing was that, I had met our doctor a day after she came back to check her vitals and he confirmed that she and the baby were doing well, but he warned us still, to lay low for sometime to avoid any casualties. He was seeing sone little issues, but if we could just hold on with sex for sometime, it would not be so difficult to handle. It was punishment, but anything for her safety. Persy had heard the doctor as well, bu
PERSYWe slept on the couch, but I woke up on my bed. I had a full smile on my face as my eyes met with the morning sun. I was never a morning person, but I could understand why I was smiling so hard today. Finally. Finally, I was going to meet Aiden again, it almost felt surreal, it felt like years since I last saw him… all I wanted was to sneak into his arms and stay there for as long as I could, away from everything…I sat up on the bed with much effort and stretched, yawned… all of that.Without asking or bothering to check, I knew that it was Trevor who had laid me on my bed. He would always do that when I fell asleep on a place I was not supposed to and so without question, I knew that this was him, too.Knowing that Trevor had a busy schedule most of the time, I hurried off the bed and ran towards the shower to get myself ready for the visit to Aiden. It was the quickest shower I had ever taken, and the quickest that I had sourced for clothes as well.I wore the first choice,
PERSYWe talked at length. I had never seen Mr Bates so emotional. He seemed so sorry for all he had gone to his children, for how he was attempting to ruin their lives.I did nothing other than stare at him as he relayed his apologies to me, convincing me over and over to come back with him. I looked outside the window, mesmerized by the fire now. It was almost evening, and the sky was so beautiful. Everything about this place was so serene, I had dreamt of giving birth to my child here so many times, I did not think I was ready to give up that dream yet."I am sorry, Mr Bates, I have to give birth to my child here first. Aiden is doing very well for himself, I see it in so many pictures and videos of him. He can continue to do well without me on his side, I mean, I never went to college! What could I possibly add to the growth of your company?" I questioned the man but he shook his head with a tight smile on his face."You do not seem to understand me, do you? I have said that I do
AIDENI had just finished reading a letter from my supposed dead brother and just like that, my mood was ruined. I glared at the letter so hard, it should have disappeared into thin air already. He had given me a serious warning in there, telling me to stop looking for me or he would look for Persy and make me regret it. To show me he was not making empty threats, the man attached a picture to his message. It was a picture of Persephone staring outside a window, smiling hard at the view outside. Fuck, I missed her so much… always so damn happy about the littlest things, it made me want to give her the world.Only the upper part of her showed in the picture and at the back of the paper was written; Oops, already found her. You should get off my back, boy, unless you do not really care about her like that?…I slammed the paper back on my desk, my face masked with a blinding rage. My eyes were no doubt, filled with anger at the moment, I knew that whomever crossed me in the next hour wa
PERSY I stared at my baby bump in the mirror, as little droplets of water dripped down my body. Yeah, that was not water but dirty, yucky sweat from trying to exercise all morning. Later on, I would resume marketing my products which were jewelries and makeup products that I advertised online. The accessories did not need my face or body, which was why I chose this line of business and so far, it was doing pretty well. I made enough sales to get myself what I needed and not having to touch the money I had set aside for college.I would be lying low in the meantime, until I was sure that the backlash I would be getting from social media would not be enough to pull my brand down.Sometimes, social media could just be so vicious. It was a great tool for business advertisement but once the people on Social media crossed you off, it would be pretty hard to get on their good side again. For now, they were torn between liking me or hating me. Most people said I was a cheapskate and gold di
AIDEN"Sir! Sir!" I turned at once, wondering if it was indeed me that the entire board directors waited for to speak. When they all kept staring at me in silence, I got the message and cleared my throat as I began,"Uh… what are we speaking on again? Can someone remind us, please?"They stared wordlessly at me for a couple of minutes until Greg cleared his throat and offered, "You said you had a proposition for us and would speak on it as soon as we were done giving our opinions on the new partners."Oh, that.I offered them a weak smile and sat up, beginning to engage them on what they wanted. When the very awkward meeting was over, I went back to my office at once, planning to just take my car keys and other essentials so I could leave this place. It had been more than two months now since Persy left me, and I had been a shadow of myself since then. It did not help that on the day she left, there were pictures flying all over the internet of her caught hugging Trevor so tightly.I
PERSY"He hardly even hesitated or anything! It was like he had been expecting this news for a long time! You need to see how he passed the papers to me so I would sign, I almost cried right there but I just had to hold myself until I came back. It just seemed like I was signing divorce papers… but isn't this also similar? This just means that I will not have anything to do with Aiden anymore, until God knows when." I relayed to Trevor who sat on the edge of my bed while I sat, lying against the headboard. He was listening attentively; a skill which I never guessed that he had in him. I continued, "You know, I thought I knew true love before… um, when I met you. But it just turns out that we had been playing with each other. We had both been using each other for what we had to offer, and nothing more. With Aiden, it is so much different. I can feel his love from a distance, I try to hate him and stay away from him but I am only killing myself the more I do. I do not know if my love f
