I still love him

Phoebe's POV

My whole life crumbled in front of me. Stephanie and her daughter had taken out a loan some months back and at this moment they were nowhere to be found. The worst part is that she used the house as collateral . Most of my things were taken by the men. The amount she had borrowed was some thousands of dollars I can't let then take the house my parents memories special memories of our lives are left here.

“I'm…sorry…mom.” I hugged her photo frame.

My mom died when I was seventeen dad couldn't cope with her demise so he remarried but that was when hell turned loose she treated me badly as soon as she moved in with her daughter dad wasn't always around so he didn't figure out he was happy with her and I couldn't bring myself to tell him the kind of person she was.

It got terrible day after day when dad died in an accident. Since she was married to him legally I couldn't do anything. I had to pay the bills,feed the family, my pay wasn't much.

“No…wonder…Jacob…left me.” I wiped my tears harshly.

“Yes.” I picked the call.

“Babe…I saw the news.” Felicia spoke worriedly.

“Yeah.” My voice was hoarse.

“Have you been crying sweetheart?”

“No.” I denied.

“Was there a reason why he did this to you,did you guys argue about something…It's killing me Phoebe.” She sighed frustratedly.

“Nope.” Jacob and I didn't have an argument.

I just want to see him and make things clear. Why did he give up on us? All those promises were lies? True he was from a well to do family unlike me who was struggling but he never made mention of it…and I thought he loved me for who I am…. that my family background doesn't matter until yesterday.

“Babe.” Felicia brought me out of my thoughts.

“I'll come over to your place as soon as I get out of work.” 

“That reminds me, aren't you supposed to be at work Phoebe?” 

“I took a leave of absence.” I answered.

“Okay dear.” She ended the call.

I couldn't take it anymore. I decided to go to Jacob's workplace to confirm to myself that everything was like a dream. Jacob never really loved me. I was a fool all along.

“How can I help you ma'am?” The receptionist asked.

“I'm here to see Me Jacob Norman.”

She looked at me for a while before calling someone. I waited with expectation, I knew he wasn't going to come back to me. He is now married, I just need an explanation. Was I that naive??

“I'm sorry ma'am.” 

“But he is not here presently.” She continued working.

Why do I feel like she is lying to me? I tried talking to her one more time.

“Please ma this is really important for me…I need to see him.”

“I'm sorry ma'am but you can't see him.” She said coldly.

When I saw that she wouldn't give in I left her side and marched to his office. The woman ran after me ,when I got to the front of his door the receptionist blocked me.

“Move away.” I pushed her away.

I opened the door and entered his office only to see someone else. He was on a call but ended it as soon as he saw me.

“Who are you-?” He was about to ask when the receptionist came in with some security men.

“I'm really sorry Sir this won't happen again.” The woman apologized to the man.

I was embarrassed, I wanted to apologize to the man but before I could, the men dragged me out angrily.

“Know your place woman, you almost got me fired!!!” She yelled at me as soon as I was thrown out of the company.

I dragged my feet back to the house when I didn't know what to do. Jacob refused to pick my calls or reply to his text, I couldn't go to see his parents because they never liked me.

I went to my room and slumped on the bed drowning myself with thought I was broken and I would never heal from the betrayal I faced from Jacob.

I removed the ring which he used to propose to me. I remembered how he proposed it was on a Friday night I didn't go to work that day he asked me out on a date it was on a cruise ship.

“Jacob, why ask me to come here, it's expensive right?” I picked my cutleries and ate the sea food which the waiter served.

“The ship belongs to my childhood friend. You don't have to worry about the bill.” He smiled at me.

His eyes were on me the entire time I felt self conscious all of a sudden.

“What's wrong?” I chuckled.

“You are beautiful Phoebe.” I choked on my drink.

He stood up worriedly and patted my back when I calmed down. I couldn't help but burst into laughter. Why was he acting all cute?

“What's wrong with you?” I tucked my hair to the back of my hair.

My attention was on him when he suddenly stood up and knelt by my side. He brought out a case when I stood up from my seat.

“Will you marry me Phoebe?” He brought out a ring.

“Jacob.” Happy tears flowed out.

“PHOEBE!!” I felt a strong hand shake me.

“Felicia?” I sat upright.

When did she enter? I didn't see her coming in.

“Phoebe.” She hugged me.

“He left me Felicia,he betrayed…. me…what did I ever do that is wrong?” I cried bitterly.

“He doesn't deserve you Phoebe, you did nothing wrong, you're the kindest person I've ever met.” She patted my back.

“I love him Felicia,I really do….I can't live without him…” 

“I know Phoebe, you'll get through this. I know you are strong, you've gone through worse situations than this.”

“I…can't…live…without him…I want him back.” My tears dropped on her neck.

“Felicia.” I pulled away from her.

“Yes.” She looked at me.

“I need to tell you something.” I swallowed my saliva in fear.
