Heart Broken

Phoebe's POV

In a flash I paid the cab man and came out of the car. My heart beat spiked when I got to the church where the wedding was held. I swallowed my saliva in fear. My hands trembled as I prayed that it wouldn't be real.

“I'm sorry you can't come in.” The bouncer at the door stopped me.

I frowned since when did they have bouncers in church and why can't I enter? I couldn't hold it anymore. I marched inside in an haste but was soon carried forcefully by the bouncer back outside.

“What the hell!!” I screamed at them.

Something wasn't right, I stood up from the ground glaring at the men who prevented me from finding out the truth.

My eyes were fixed on the door,I was the only one who wasn't allowed in. I laughed in anger, Jacob was smart.

“He ordered you not to let me in!!” I yelled at the obnoxious men.

“Behave yourself miss, you are causing a scene here.” One of them warned.

I scoffed why won't i my fiance was getting married to another woman!!

“Let me in please,I need to see him.” The tears were flowing down seriously.

They remained rooted at the spot without sparing me a glance. I knelt down and wept as the passersby stared at me when the men couldn't take it anymore. One of them came forward.

“What!” It was more like a growl.

“Follow me” He stretched his hands.

My heart leaped, I wiped my tears and took his hands.

“You will take me to see Jacob?” I arched my eyebrows.

“Yes ma'am, follow me.” He replied.

We went the other direction, I was about to ask him why we were taking another route instead of going directly inside when I felt a handkerchief on my face.

The hand was so strong I tried to free myself from him but he wouldn't bulge.

“You bast-” My eyes closed slowly and I embraced the darkness sadly.

I didn't know how many hours I was out but when I opened my eyes it was dark. I sat upright and looked at my surroundings. I was in a room. That scoundrel drugged me. I was a fool to follow him.

“You are awake.” The one who drugged me came in.

Hurriedly I went over and slapped him. His sunglasses fell to the floor. He looked at me for a moment before bringing out something in his pocket.

“From Mr Jacob.” He handed me a letter.

I eyed him suspiciously and snatched it from him. He bowed and went out of the room leaving me with the letter.

“Dear Phoebe,

If you are reading this letter I'm probably not in the country anymore. Writing this letter makes me very sad. I don't want to hurt you, but I can't go on like this anymore. We need to end this relationship. Maybe we could try this relationship in the next life.

Trying to improve this relationship is all I've focused on lately, and it has negatively impacted other areas of my life: my job, my friends, and my family. I have been stressed out and on edge with everyone around me.

I know it's hard to say but I can't see a future with us. Phoebe I don't like who I am right now. I need to focus on getting back to where I feel happy and at peace with myself and my life.

Things have really worsened over the past few months. You and I both know we don't belong in the same class. We are from a different world Phoebe. You don't belong in my world and I don't belong in yours either.

That's why I made the decision to reset things and put things back to order. I know you might hate me now but I don't have a choice because this is the best decision for everyone.

I wish you the best of everything Phoebe thanks for your love.

From Jacob.”

My lips trembled and my legs were weak. I stared into the space lost in thought. The tears refused to come, the harsh sound of my ringing tone brought me back to my senses.

“Yes.” I picked the call.

“Miss Alexander, you need to come home now!” I stood up at the voice.

“What's wrong?” I took the letter and my bag and went out of the room.

It was when I was outside that I found out that Jacob's men brought me to a hotel.

“Please can you explain in detail?” I asked my neighbor who called.

“I don't know but there are some huge men in your building and some cars are parked outside!!” She said everything in a rush.

“What about my mom and sister are they not around?” I waved at a taxi.

“I don't know, just come home and sort your issues!!” She ended the call.

I asked the driver to increase the speed. It took about thirty minutes before I got home. I didn't wait to hear from my noisy neighbor before barging in.

“Look who's here?” A man with a protruded belly stood up when I entered.

He was surrounded with hefty men who looked like his bodyguard but I didn't know him and he wasn't a family member or is he related to Stephanie and Blakey.

“When are you going to pay the debt?” He threw some papers in my face.

“What debt!” I raised my voice.

“What…debt..” He stuttered.

“Stephanie!!” I called my step mother.

“She is nowhere to be found now to my question, when are you going to pay me!!!” He grabbed my clothes.

Stephanie wasn't home, I pulled the man's hand away from my clothes. This is the first time I'm seeing this man in my entire life and he is talking about debt.

“Don't tell me!” My eyes widened.

I ran to her room only to find it empty. I ran to Blakey, my step sister's room, only to see the same thing, I dragged myself back to the living room to where the men were.

My eyes were blurry, the tears formed immediately. I knew Stephanie was into gambling she had gotten into trouble the other time. Now I wondered what she had bet on or what she had gotten herself into.

“WHAT DID SHE BET ON AND WHY DO I HAVE TO FIX HER MESS GO AND FIND HER DO I LOOK LIKE STEPHANIE TO YOU!!!” I screamed at them.

“Such a fiesty one?” The men laughed.

“Apparently we aren't gamblers. Your mother took out a loan from us some months back.”

“So?” I clenched my fist.

“We will be taking the house.” The man dropped the bomb.
