Kayden Knight had his eyes on Eleanor again when she stopped a waiter and picked two vodka shots. She gulped the shots one after the other like she was used to it and kept the glasses back on the tray. The waiter was about to leave when she stopped him again and picked the third one. Kayden wondered if she would be able to handle the third one.

"Excuse me," Kayden said, smoothly disengaging from the lively group he had been conversing with, his dark eyes scanning the dimly lit room until they settled on his wife. She sat at the edge of the bustling bar, a delicate glass poised at her lips, her posture tense. With purposeful strides, he navigated through the maze of tables and patrons, his finely tailored suit drawing admiring glances along the way.

Just as Eleanor was about to indulge in a sip of her drink, Kayden's firm grip encircled her wrist, halting her movement midair. "Don't," he warned, his voice a low murmur, though laced with an unmistakable edge.
