"At some point of time, the only person who can help you is..YOU."
After running and hiding for several hours, I finally reached here. My breathing was shallow, it really seemed difficult to move now. Fortunately, the train was running late, so I still had some time to rest. My eyes quickly searched for a seat, I found one, grabbed it and comforted myself.
People were looking at me as if they’ve seen a Zombie. Well, the condition I was in was no less than a Zombie. Not their fault, a bruised face with black and purple stain is quite a weird sight for anyone. Sadly, the bruises on my body were the same as stars scattered in the sky. The difference was that the sky full of stars looks beautiful but obviously not a body stained with bruises. What’s even worse was those horrible memories. I wish I could get rid of those memories one day.
I closed my eyes and a tear rolled down my cheek. I was so worn out that in no time I fell asleep.
Flashback starts
“Hey, Zariyah baby, see what I’ve got for you."
I turned around and saw a belt in his hand. I got so scared that I was shivering.
He was moving towards me slowly with his disgusting yet horrible smile.
“Now be a good girl and let me use this belt on you. Okay?” His stern and thick voice let me shudder more in panic and pain.
I was in no condition to stand properly. With my leftover strength, I crawled, dragging myself over the ground, clawing my way forward in a hope to save myself somehow. But little did I know that like every time, I couldn't protect myself from him even now. From his torture.
He played his favourite music as it always gave him immense pleasure to play that while beating me. Really weird. That music was another kind of torture to my eardrums, a gloominess was attached to that song that negatively triggered my senses to feel depress and scared. Like everything is covered in the endless veil of darkness without an ounce of light.
I plugged my ears with my fingers to block that gloomy music, but then he started beating me with the belt mercilessly. Again he scribed the tale of his torture on my body.
“Ahhhh... Please stop! Stop. It really hurts.” I pleaded only to see him get elated with those words.
“I’m begging you, stop it.” I continued begging him, which had become a habit now.
Warm tears streamed from my eyes as I was screaming in excruciating pain. Like always my words fell on deaf ears. In no time I became numb as the immense pain engulfed my body.
After some time I could no longer feel the sharp belt against my skin. The sound of that gloomy music, everything were silenced, maybe the torture had ended. I was lying on the floor, unable to move even an inch. My hopeless eyes were telling the tale of my miserable life.
My condition coerced me to believe that I’ll never get the taste of happiness at least not in this life.
What have I done to deserve this? Why am I so unfortunate? Why?
The sound of the train whistle dismounted me from the trance I was in and brought me back to reality.
Luckily I managed to save some money in all these years. I can survive for a few days before getting a job.
While boarding on the train I looked back at the place I was leaving forever, with mixed feelings. This was the place where I experienced love for the first time only to hate it later.
I looked at the blue sky and prayed to God with my pouring eyes to bless me with new chapters of life where I could find happiness. At least from now, let me learn how to smile and cherish living. Is that too much to ask for?
As the train started, I got busy filling my eyes with the beauties of nature. I was enjoying the sight as if a blind person had got her vision for the first time. Never had I ever thought of this fortunate day when I would see these scintillating lights, after living a life of darkness. I could feel that I’m breathing, contenting my heart.Just when my eyes were busy catching the beautiful sight of lush green hills, landscapes and breathtaking sceneries, a sudden noise made me jittered. The waves of shrill hampered and dismounted me from the calmness of my joyful trance. My eyes quickly checked the source of the sound and saw a man who was covering his mouth for an unpredictable reason. After scanning the surroundings, he made himself comfortable in the seat and sighed.
“Tring... Tring... Tring...”Ahhh… Alarm clocks are the most annoying thing in this world. With utter bitterness and distaste, I flung my hand and turned off that small piece of shit and got off from bed to get ready for my job. Even if not my dream job, yet a livelihood to get myself to survive here. I also got a small apartment which I was sharing with Bella. She was my roommate and now my only friend in this new chapter of my life.“Buongiorno Bella, get up you’ll be late for your work."Bella woke up stretching her hands. “Morning Zariyah!”“Hurry up. Your coffee and breakfast are on the table. I’m leaving now. Bye, see you later.” I chirped o
“One moment is enough to change your life”“I think I have something for you.” Fumbling through her purse she grabbed something.“It’s okay, ma’am I didn’t help you to get a reward.” With a faint smile, I refused her to reward me.“Well, you helped Alessia Romano and I would love to return this favour by helping you. Here you go.” She placed a card in my hand.“Denver’s Group of Companies. One of the leading companies in Milan. I’m giving you this golden opportunity to hit the jackpot. Be there at nine.”For a second, my brain completely stopped working. The
“The secret to sustaining impact is the dexterity of your virtue.”“Hey Love, how was your interview?” asked Bella with a tense look with a spoonful of pie waiting to be chewed.“Tomorrow he’ll decide,” I whispered out my irksomeness.“What do you mean, he’ll decide tomorrow? Please don't tell me that you are on standby.” She frowned and took in the pie to gulp down her frustration.“Worry less, Bella. The interview went well. I answered all his questions confidently but he wants me to conquer his arduous challenges to prove my worth,” I said while loosening my tiring thoughts.“That dev
Today was the most anticipated first day. First day of my dream job in the most prestigious company. Ah! I finally could do it.None would guess the squealing kid dancing to the shower of chocolates and cream pies within me. Right from my childhood, I knew how to look normal between my switching fate. But I wish things go better if not the best.I reached there in time, to be honest, ten minutes before, sufficient enough to take a happy gaze at the dream destination. I looked at my cabin that happened to be in front of my boss's office. Then the stack of documents that called me lovingly only to tire me with words printed in them. Before I went to gather myself over the new beginning that was capable of becoming a better nostalgia sooner, I was ordered by my boss to get him
The event day arrived in the blink of an eye. I was assisting Alessia as we had to shift the dresses for the fashion show to the venue carefully. The event was going to be held in the most prestigious and luxurious hotel in Milan and fortunately, it was not far from our office. So the last hour modifications and disguise makeovers to wither off the exhaustion wouldn't delay us. Just when I and Alessia were going through the details of the accessories, dress materials, and props, we were obstructed by the baby girl of the devil. Gosh! Her word stuffed mouth and stupid gestures were always sick. Speaking of the devil, I hadn't seen him since morning. Was I missing him? What? Me missing him? Nah! No way. I am the happiest when he is far away, or… Huh, I must worry less perhaps.
Silvia was standing right in front of me all dressed up. I felt relaxed when she showed up but at the same time, the toxic smile plastered on her face gave me a bit-so-cringy thrill. Silence crept into the room between my ambiguous sneaks. Every human being present in that room ogled her; the sigh of relief on their decorated faces were visible. “Just what in the world is wrong with you girl? I have never seen such an unprofessional person in my whole career till now.” Alessia appeared from behind and yelled at Silvia. “I can explain, Aly. I got stuck in the traffic. But still, I managed to dress up and did some primary care to save time.” Silvia answered bluntly without an ounce of guilt. “You’re lucky, you came on time otherwise I would have made Denver k
Fashion shows would usually be a short event lasting only thirty-forty minutes or an hour. But it takes a lot of time to equip and recreate the pre-existing styles with expertise. Most of these events would be centred on a single theme. Sometimes fashion shows were also organized as a source of charity or popularity. I wasn't sure on which demand did this show get staged today. Considering the sparkling diamonds and perfect tuxedos and flooding media it could be planned for some funds.Zari, better think about how to be productive than flipping your guessings, my mind knocked me.With an alright sigh, I walked to the green room. When I reached there, everything was set rightly perfect. Makeup was done, models were ready and Alessia was wishing them good luck. Her gleaming eyes shone brighter than the puzzling art
With a long face and an inconsolable heart, I went to my place. Luckily, Bella was there to console me. I spat out the series of jinxes that stuck to me from last night to this morning and how I ended my booming career with a 'served him right' slap.Bella reacted as if I confessed to her about committing a murder. “What- Why on earth did you slap Devil Denver? He won't let it pass, he can fire you, Zari.”“If he only accused me of what happened yesterday, I would have handled it patiently by revealing the real culprit. But that blue-eyed jinxed man raised questions on my chastity. I can't let it pass. No girl can tolerate such bullshit. And about the job, nothing is more important than my self-respect.” I almost shouted at Bella with tears in my eyes.“Cool down, Dear. If that&rs
Before I could say 'Jack Robinson', the magnificent morning arrived. Like every morning, this time also I wanted to sleep for some extra minutes, although I was fully aware that an extra minute of sleep wouldn't be enough to quell my longing for the land of Nod.I got up and welcomed the morning cheerlessly. Soon I got ready, had some chocolate brioche with my favourite macchiato and was off to work. When I arrived at the office, I sensed something unwonted and rugged in the eyes of the people of Devil’s kingdom. The males were gawking at me like I had exposed their debauchery to their wives while the females were glancing at me like I had unfolded their without makeup look to their baes. A wave of certain fidgetiness obstructed my pathos to think of something positive. A lot of unpleasant thoughts were
“Zariyah it is… more stunning than what I designed. This is really incredible. I have no words to express my joy. Thank you so much,” said Alyssia, her eyes admiring my not so good sketch.“Huh? Really? That's a relief then. Let's make this sketch a reality. I’ve already gathered the materials, laces, beads and stitching things,” I informed Alyssia. Without wasting any moment she nodded her head in agreement and we both set out to work.Looking at the condition, I decided on the look of the dress as backless and sleeveless. It would save time, additionally, to save more time I used a metallic bodycon skirt of ankle-length from our company's party wear collection. The only thing left was the upper part of the dress that I started cutting and stitching.Alyssia told me
The moment we were about to leave, another problem arose in front of us. It was… the devil. Well, he always looked angry, but now he was looking like a real devil akin to the fierce satan or some frightening creature? His face flushed with rage, I could feel the fume coming out of his nostrils while he was grinding his teeth. The more horrific thing was that he was constantly glaring at... Wait! Was he walking towards me? But why me? In no time, he towered over me. I don't know why but everything suddenly felt dark and grim. I was sure that the blizzard of his rage would destroy me.Alright then, I'm right about him being sceptical of me leaking the design. Ah! Should this day be this twisty! The tension dissolved in the air sent a jolt of adrenaline through me. Battling through the plight of vagu
