A WEEK BEFORE THE WEDDING….Jessica was still at her family house making preparations for her wedding. It's been a long time since she last stayed with so many family members and even though there was so much drama from time to time, she enjoyed the company. Cruz, on the other hand, went back to LA because of work but they kept in touch and Cruz also came to check on her during the weekend. Cruz's parents were the most excited about this wedding. They never thought he could ever fall in love but he did so much to the extent that he proposed marriage and is finally going to get married. Cruz was a hopeless romantic and it took them a long time to figure that out. The articles about her were long gone and almost forgotten again but she couldn't wait for her big day to finally make them forget it for good. While Jessica was resting in her room, Cruz face-timed her as he usually does. They talked about how much they missed each other. "Why don't you come over to LA tomorrow?" Cruz s
"What? Peru? Why?" Jessica asked haphazardly. "I know you don't watch the news but there was a terrorist attack at the army barracks…" "So? Are you a soldier? What does that have to do with you?" She interrupted, panicking. "Jess, can you keep quiet, calm down, and let me explain?" Cruz pleaded and waited to hear Jessica's response. In the absence of none, Cruz continued. "One of the Five-star generals in the special force got a bullet shot to the head. The bullet is stuck in his brain stem. The location is very dangerous and very few surgeons around the world have had any success with similar operations because of the risk. Fortunately, I'm one of the lucky few and I'm going to be leading the operation with a few other specialists." He explained and then paused to stare back at Jessica who was shooting daggers at him. "Are you not going to say anything?" Cruz asked worriedly as Jessica's silence was becoming disturbing. "You just told me to keep shut and let you explain. So g
"Hmm…you both are getting married tomorrow yet you don't know where your groom is?" Valeria asked in disbelief but Jessica was also in disbelief so she couldn't bring herself to answer that question. "Wow! Happy married life!" She scoffed before walking out on them.Jessica was finding it hard to understand what was going on. She was so confused that she took off her mask and cap to breathe in fresh air, forgetting she was undercover. She was panicking and Dave didn't know how to comfort her. "Jessica… hmm, I think we should head home for now. I will try to contact him once we get there." He suggested."Cruz can't possibly be playing a prank on me, right? What makes him think this is a good joke?" She trembled. Even though she tried to conceal it, Dave could hear her panicking."Jessica, It's my duty to take care of you. It's getting too late now and your family has been calling me since you aren't answering your calls. You know Cruz owns the city. He could be anywhere right now…"
ABOUT A WEEK LATER…No one knew the way about of Jessica and nothing was heard from Cruz for days but the internet was still buzzing with the news of their failed wedding. News broke out about Cruz's first engagement to Triana and it began to trend. In the end, only the women were blamed because they believed Cruz had already made himself clear enough that he would never be married. No one thought Cruz could be in trouble because throughout these days, he was online and even though he was replying, he posted a picture of himself treating an injured soldier which sparked more reaction online. The picture was dated back to two days after he left LA and therefore doesn't explain where he went to after having left Peru. Cruz's parents who were still staying at his house in Beverly Hills took it upon themselves to contact all the families they'd invited to apologize for the time wasted. They were embarrassed by the failed wedding but it was nothing compared to what Jessica felt. Cade
"Taken?" Leah scoffed in disbelief. "Yeah, you do looook like you were taken!" She mocked. "Cruz, are you being serious?" Tyler, who saw the seriousness in his eyes, asked. "Do you think I will joke about that? I thought you guys knew how much I love Jessica. My life would never be the same again and I will never forgive myself if I don't get to spend the rest of my life with her." He confessed his undying love.Leah was confused. She didn't know what to believe and she needed a little more convincing to believe him. "You want to make me believe that you were kidnapped yet no money was milked out of you or your family? If you were kidnapped they should have at least called to inform your family." Leah pointed out her observation. "Leah, I wasn't kidnapped for the money." Cruz replied. "So you mean someone purposely sabotaged your wedding by kidnapping you? Cruz, at least find a more convincing lie to tell." Leah dismissed Cruz's claim."We know a lot of people don't support you
Dave quickly ran into the car and sat on the driver's seat before shoving the bag of snacks into the back seat of the car. "Cruz, you can't give up so easily. Just because she's laughing happily with someone else doesn't mean she's over you. Even after you took those pictures of her and embarrassed her on several occasions, she forgave you and came back. This time around is not even your fault so I believe she will come around after hearing the truth." Dave motivated him and for a while, he felt he still had a chance with her. "Maybe you're what she needs to get back to her senses. It's barely been a week so if she's already with another man, it means she is doing it out of pressure or to stop herself from thinking about you. You will need to save her before she falls into a trap she's unknowingly setting for herself." He added and at this point, Cruz had no doubt in his mind. He was ready to knock sense back into Jessica's head and reclaim his spot in her life. "Do you think I s
Jessica remained mute for a while, making Cruz almost believe he had succeeded until she finally replied. "You're right. At some point, I was really curious. I just wanted to know why you did that to me but now I really don't care. I don't want to hear another set of lies and empty promises from you. Even if you have a good reason, it doesn't change anything. It's not like there is going to be another wedding again. I'm done making myself into a laughingstock so I will save you the stress of having to lie to me today. Just stay away. That's all you can really do for me now." She concluded and without looking into Cruz's eyes, she turned her back and went back to work. Cruz helplessly watched her leave. All the confidence and hope he had coming down here was completely shattered. He didn't know how to face his brother or his family but what was harder was how to live his life now that she was not in it and not willing to come back to it. For a while, he remained at the same spot wat
Derek hesitated before giving a reply. "No, it's his PA." He replied and Jessica sighed dishearteningly. 'Jessica, what were you expecting?' She thought to herself as she wiped out her tears. "What does he want? How did he even know about our house?" She fumed. "I hate to say this but he seems to want to talk about Cruz. I think he was waiting for me in front of the estate and I met him on my way to morning exercise. I didn't want to let him in but he seemed really worried and I had no other choice than to let him." Derek explained. Jessica became curious as to why he was there so she urged Derek to leave so she could change and come out. A few minutes later, Jessica joined Dave in the living room wearing a multicolored jumpsuit. "Jessica…" Dave mumbled awkwardly as he quickly stood up upon seeing Jessica. "You don't have to act so awkwardly around me. It's not like you caused my heartbreak." Jessica who noticed him said. "Umm…thanks." He mumbled as he sat back down after whi
