Jaclyn entered the room where they laid the body of Ken and approached the bed. Silas sits beside Ken with his hand by his side him and when he senses Jaclyn's presence in the room, he rises to his feet and nods his head at his daughter before taking his leave.

Her eyes well up with unshed tears, now being alone with Ken’s dead body. She tries to control herself and her emotions, but she can’t help it. So many times, Ken had told her to let the past go. He told her revenge will not bring her happiness, but sadness and pain. She never understood, but after the unfortunate event of the night, she knows he was right all along. His blood was on her hands and she would never forgive herself.

She takes his chilly hands into hers, rubbing small circles all over them. “You were right. We should have stayed in that cottage. We were free to be ourselves, free to laugh, free to live, free to love each other. We shouldn’t have left. Everything was perfect there.” Her tears ran d

I’m so glad Ken came back. I was DEVASTATED when he died so I had to step away and couldn’t finish the story. I’m glad I came back. Great story!

  • Betrayed by the Alpha    Prologue

This is my first try at a werewolf story, so please pardon my mistake. This book is purely fiction, any resemblance of the names and places written in it to that of real life is a coincidence. Thank you for opening. Happy reading. Glory T!na ***A few words to look out for. I'll be adding them up will I finish the book Premier Shifting: The premier shifting is the manifestation of the wolf gene in werewolves which usually takes place between the ages of sixteen to eighteen. This shifting gives a sense of belonging to every human-wolf. It is considered a gift and serves as a reminder that we aren't humans. The shifting differentiated a born wolf from humans and unless one experienced the shift, they are considered humans. Apology: If an alpha rejects your apology, you

  • Betrayed by the Alpha    1: From the very beginning

Jaclyn's POV Mama always said I was born on the night the Wild South was on fire over nineteen years ago. She didn't quite know if it was before she went into labour or after, but she had made it a tradition to retell the tale as often as she could since then. My birth wasn't like others I've heard, usually whenever women went into labour, they beckon on the midwives for their help and guide. However, when she went into labour, she was on her own in her room and after four hours of excruciating pain and torturous labour; I came forth, bearing a birthmark shaped like a tear drop on my upper chest. The following day, when the neighbour brought the bad news of the destructive fire that burnt overnight, they learnt about the birth of her daughter, me. The fact that mama had gone into labour without crying out for help couple with the mysterious fire that broke out on that night made them raise an eyebrow. Soon the whole town knew of the mysterious b

  • Betrayed by the Alpha    2: Trouble always lurks around

I almost jump out of my skin at the sound of the terrifying voice and I place a hand over my chest, trying to slow down my heartbeat physically, which went up after being startled by this other intruder. “Who’s there?” I demand, my eyes darting around. My small voice was no longer as firm as it was when I spoke to the now-knocked-out fellow earlier. “Show yourself.” At my words, the humongous, broadly built man steps out towards the dimmed light across the street, wearing a white, long sleeve shirt neatly tucked into his black trousers and despite the night, I can make out his formidable feature. His smouldering gaze and the confidence he possesses tell me one thing, he isn’t someone to be messed with. I feel weak on the inside and I’ve never felt weak in anyone’s presence before. Not even douche bag Spencer. He looks older and though his age barely tells on him, I can tell from his stand and the way he walks that he’s had a fair amount of deali

  • Betrayed by the Alpha    3: The curse of being different

Anyone in Unique Academy would call Spencer a big-time bully. It so happened that after his premier shifting two years ago, he became the strongest werewolf amongst us. He knew it and made it a mission to let everyone know it as well. Being from a powerful bloodline of alphas, everyone knew someday he would become an alpha of his own. He had all the traits of an alpha alright. He had arrogance, pride and the height of his ego competed with that of Mount Kilimanjaro. The academy frowned at bullying. But with his name and background, Spencer got away with almost every cruel thing he did at the school. Everyone feared him and no one reported him to the school for his abuse. He was unapologetic and mean and bent almost everyone to his will, and no one stood up to him for fear of being a target of him and his crew. A majority of the students hated him, but they kept their feelings to themselves and avoided eye contact whenever he spoke to them to avoid triggering him.

  • Betrayed by the Alpha    4: Vulnerability not allowed

Ken’s eyes became so big for a moment I thought it would pop out of its socket. I raise my hand to stop him from exclaiming and drawing unwanted attention and point to my head, telling him to communicate telepathically with me instead. “This is the man you called an asshole.” His voice charges into my head like he speaks through a microphone. My eyes flutter and I feel like snapping at him to reduce his goddamn voice, but I can’t. So I press my lips together and nod. “Wait, how do you know he’s the one?” he asks, his gaze darting over at the man standing beside Mrs Adams and then over to me. I point to my nose, which can smell his scent, and then up to my brain, which assimilates. Yes, it was dark, yes I barely saw his face, but I saw and smelt enough to identify anyone and this man right here was the same as the one I saw a few days ago. “Do you think he will re

  • Betrayed by the Alpha    5: When bad becomes worse

A week later, I open the mini-fridge and pull out a bottle of milk, a box of cornflakes and two ceramic bowls and spoons before going to the medium-sized table at the centre of the kitchen and setting them down. I turn off the cooker and grabbed the hot kettle on it, pouring the hot water into the bowls and then adding the cornflakes. I hear footsteps from across the room and I know mother already set for work. She works as a housekeeper and started the job almost a year ago. Just like I predicted, she emerges into the kitchen wearing her blue gown and a white apron around her neck. "Good morning, mama." I pour the milk into each bowl and move one bowl towards her. "Good morning, Jaclyn." she sits and picks her spoon up. "It's cornflakes every day, I see." My cheeks were warm. Cornflakes is my favourite go-to meal, easy to make and also time-efficient. "We are both already running late, ma." I point out and she rolls he

  • Betrayed by the Alpha    6: No one understands safety

My eyes dart across the room to where Ken sits, and he gives me a sympathetic look. Spencer sits across from him with a satisfied look on his face. Indian appeared awestruck as she stared at Dane and her usual self-composure does little to stop the effect he has on her and when Ken notices her, his teeth clench in anger.I look away from him and back to Mrs Richie’s furrowed brows as she finally stops glaring at me after almost a minute. “Tarr! How wonderful to have you grace us with your presence?”The class chuckles and I grow stiff on the insideShe casts the students a hard glare, and they become silent immediately.“Good morning, Mrs Richie.” I greet with a delicate tone of voice.“You’ve never been late to my class before, Tarr. I’d like to know what happened today.”I clasp my lips together, and my gaze run to Spencer and his eyes dare me to speak. Dane gawks at me like

  • Betrayed by the Alpha    7: The hope of something better

“Jaclyn,” Mrs Adams calls to me and I turn to see her walking in my direction with eyes of relief, “I’m glad you haven’t left yet. I need you in my office.”Without hesitation, I follow her into her white-painted, medium-sized office. There is a mahogany bookshelf to the right standing beside the window and at the left a mini-fridge close to a drawer containing files of every students' academic report. at the centre of the office is Mrs Adams desk and she approaches it. The last renovation the office had was three years ago, but it looks so good, it would pass for yesterday. She takes her seat, and I do the same after being told to. She closes up the notebook before her and moves it to the left side of the desk before speaking.“Jaclyn, you’re one of our brightest students at UA.” she begins, and that line was what most people used to break bad news subtly.Perhaps Dane already

She lands hard and her hand cracks.“I taught you all the tricks you know, and you really think you can use them on me?” his leg swings forward and he kicks her in the face as she falls to the ground again, groaning. He reaches out and grabs her by the hair, pulling her onto her feet and delivering punches after

  • Betrayed by the Alpha    27: The truth unseen

Ace lay spread out on his gigantic bed with his eyes closed. Two women are resting beside him. He had brought them along to celebrate his victory over his brother and claiming the rogue pack. Now, as midnight passed, they needed rest. However, Ian stepped into the room to interrupt his much-needed rest.“Someone is here to see you.”“Who is he?” Ace moans, his lashes cracking open. The girls beside him wake as well.“His name is Kenneth Miller. He once trained with the rogue pack alongside the fire wolf and Caroline Matters. He’s like me, a witch.” Ian answers.Ace doesn’t need all the information. He knows who the kid was. He had faced him about a year ago when he came to the safe house. “What did he say?” he asks, helping himself up with his elbows on the bed.“He said he needed an audience with you. He believes what he has to say is important.”“Let him speak to you, then.” Ace

“Alpha, there is an attack on the entrance of the pack house. I think the alpha of the fury park is leading the raid.” Liam announces, stepping into the room where Dane lay, trying to regain his strength. After the fight with his brother a few hours ago, Dane felt his strength leave him and it’s still yet to return.“How did they know we would be in fewer numbers today?” Dane asks, his tone dominated by confusion as he properly sits up.“Could this be Ace’s doing?” Liam asks, his voice rising curiously.“Ace is a lot of things, but he will never betray his own. If he wanted me dead, he wouldn’t do it through anyone. He’d challenge me up front.” he ran a hand through his hair. “How many of us are left?”“We are twelve, alpha. Yourself included.”“And them?”“They were over a hundre

“Your brother believes I have an ulterior motive for coming back to you, doesn’t he?” Jaclyn asks, leaning against the door while Dane puts on his shirt. He had brushed over everything that had happened at the party, including his brother’s challenge to Jaclyn after they left the party yesterday. He promised he will handle everything today and when Jaclyn asked to come see him before the face off; he didn’t object. Dane sighs, adjusting his shirt. “Ace has had a hard time trusting anyone but himself for the longest of time.” She turns to stare him straight in the eyes. “What about you then? Do you think I have an ulterior motive for coming back?” He doesn’t hesitate, “At first I did, but you had the chance to kill me months ago at the boxing ring and you chose not to, I’ve never been good at gambling, but I’d bet my life that you don’t want me dead. And if you do, it will be because I deserve it. It’s hard for people to see the truth

  • Betrayed by the Alpha    24: The repeat of history

Ken stands before the white wooden door and knocks on it. After about a minute, it opens and Silas stands before him in black trousers and grey polo. The man looks surprised to see Ken, however, the look on his face remains welcoming. “Ken.” “Silas.” “Hey,” he says. “We need to talk.” Ken interrupts and pushes past him further into the room even without being invited in. If Silas took offence at this, he says nothing as he closes the door and follows Ken further into the house. “How did you find me?” he asks once they reach the living room. Ken scoffs, “I’m a witch, Silas. I know where you and ten others I passed by while coming here live.” “Fine. Why are you here?” “To ask you what it takes to be a spineless father.” Ken shoots immediately. This time, his words strikes Silas, and a frown forms on his face. “What’s that supposed to mean?” “It

  • Betrayed by the Alpha    23: The wrong step

Jaclyn was still working on the broadsheets on her desk before her when she sensed Dane’s presence at the door of her office. Last month, Dane had helped set her back into the Northrich university she left a year ago. The plan was to work while schooling and she told him she could take on both responsibilities. Dane saw to it to assign her the minimum work while paying her the salary as if she was a full-time employee. He also stayed off her way, only seeing her a few times a week, giving her time to adjust to the working routine. She didn’t bother to lift her head from the files she worked on. He hadn’t lurked around in the last three weeks and so she knows something is up today. But knowing Dane, she doubts he’d go straight to the point. Well, he stands in her office and she can’t ignore the hell out of him like she wants.“Hey.” He speaks, and her head slowly lifts to see him with a wide smile on his face.“Hello.

Cathy brings over the second round of the shot of vodka Jaclyn ordered. Franklin, the bartender, went on leave to see his sick mother last week and Cathy here has covered for him since. She smiles at her before bringing the glass to her mouth when she feels someone sit beside her and, without turning to see who it is, she knew it was Ken. Her mood changes slightly. These past months she’d missed him so much, but she didn’t want him here. Not now. “Hello, Jaclyn.” “Ken,” she nods in acknowledgement, rounding her finger over the mouth of the small cup she just placed down. “It’s been a while, Jaclyn. I’m left to believe you forgot about me at this point.” She didn’t, but she can’t tell him that. “I’ve been quite busy.” Pain flashes in his eyes and he clears his throat. “Caroline told me you accepted the job at the Vixon’s industry four weeks ago.” “I did.” “You didn’t tell me.” “I didn’t think I had to, besides I kn

  • Betrayed by the Alpha    21: Hope

Flashback Eight months ago, a month after Jaclyn woke. “People say the moon goddess loves all his children equally. Well, they lied because the moon goddess loves the fire wolf more.” Ken read aloud as he came to take his seat on the couch next to Jaclyn, holding two small textbooks in his hands. “How do you mean?” she asked from beside him, her legs folded in a yoga style and her hands rubbing her knee. “Remember when I told you fire wolves can never be mated or marked, but they can choose their mate and mark them?” when she nodded he continued, “This book confirms it.” “That, never having a mate sounds like a bad thing instead of good,” she said with a displeased scowl. “It’s not. The purpose of a fire wolf is more than finding a mate. The goddess, knowing this, made them unmarkable at least to an extent.” he closed the book and opened the other one, having a brown hardcover back. He did a dramatic throat-clearing before read
