Lyra's POV
My legs trembled as I continued to punch the tree stump, letting out my frustration as I did.
The woods were silent except for the occasional chirping of birds. With every strike, I felt the tears running down my cheeks. I brushed off the tears and continued, beating my palms against the tree until it was bloody.
Damian, my fated mate and now ex-husband had picked my best friend, Eloisa to be his new partner and he had done this on the day of our son's death anniversary.
I was here in a rogue pack where I'd come to stay with Rylan, the leader of the pack who was an enemy of Damian. I would get my revenge in due time by forming an alliance with Damian's enemy, Rylan.
I didn't know how long I'd been hitting the tree stump when I heard my name.
“Lyra.”
I froze, the sound sending a chill down my spine. I turned to see Damian, standing a few feet away, arms crossed, his eyes cold as ever.
How did he find me? How had he known I'd be in the woods at the rogue pack?
I turned to face him fully, quickly wiping the tears off my cheeks.
“What do you want?” I asked, clasping my hands together. Fear sprang to my eyes and I tried to conceal it.
I needed to make sure he didn't see the panic in my eyes. I bit my lower lips, the wind tossed my long black hair in my face and I pushed the strands back.
“You know exactly why I’m here,” he said, stepping closer.
“You’re coming back with me to the Blood Nest Pack. I don't care what you think you're doing here."
“I’m not going back,” I snapped.
“Not to you, not after what you did.”
"Even if Eloisa is my partner now, you can't just leave the pack. You have a place and you'll stay in it for as long as I choose to keep you there."
I scoffed, my palm itched to slap his arrogant face.
"You don't know what you want," I said.
This was my life now and even if he didn't know yet, I was going to exert my revenge on him in due time. For such humiliation.
“You don’t have a choice,” he growled, his eyes on me.
“You’re my Luna. You belong with me, Lyra.”
“Don’t talk to me about belonging!” I shouted, my voice ringing through the woods.
“You threw me away the day you chose Eloisa. On our son's death anniversary, Damian!”
His face twisted with anger.
“You think you can just run off from the Blood Nest Pack? You’re making a fool of yourself.”
I stepped back, raising my hands between us.
“I’ll never go back to you, Damian. Not after the way you humiliated me.”
“You’re coming with me, whether you like it or not.” He took a step forward and I panicked.
Before I could react, he lunged at me, trying to grab my arms. I twisted out of his reach for as many times as he reached for me.
“Don’t do this!” I shouted, gritting my teeth as I pushed him back.
“I’m done asking,” he snarled, his intention clear in his eyes. He was going to haul me off whether I wanted to or not.
“I’m taking you back, Lyra, and I’ll kill anyone who gets in my way.”
Just as he started to shift into his wolf form so he could overpower me, a voice sounded in the distance.
“Step away from her, Damian.”
It was a cold and forceful voice. I recognized it at once.
I turned around even before I saw that it was Rylan, the rogue Alpha with whom I'd forged an alliance with.
Rylan emerged from the trees, his eyes locked on Damian with pure hatred. He didn’t waste time with words. He showed his fangs. A way to state that he was ready for combat.
“This is none of your business, rogue,” Damian spat, his voice thick with contempt.
“She’s under my protection now and you're on our lands,” Rylan said coldly, pointing at Damian.
“If you want her, you’ll have to go through me.”
“My Luna can not be under a pathetic rogue. Surely she's not stooped so low," Damian said arrogantly.
"Being with you was the lowest she could ever go, and you call her your Luna after everything you've done to her?" Rylan retorted.
I’ll enjoy tearing you apart with my fist,” Damian sneered, his eyes blazing with fury.
“You’ve been a thorn in my side for too long.”
“I’d love to see you try,” Rylan shot back, his stance solid, ready for a fight.
They started to shift into their wolf forms, ready to tear each other apart. Their snarls reverberated through the woods and I shivered.
I watched, my heart pounding, as the two Alphas faced off, both of them ready to see the end of the other.
But Damian was the Alpha who had betrayed my love for him while Rylan was the one who had taken me under his protection after I'd left the Blood Nest Pack in my humiliated state.
Damian’s movements were sharp, accurate, driven by rage.
“You think you can protect her? You’re nothing but a rogue!”
Rylan blocked his strikes effortlessly, he too was just as big and with cold blue eyes and long hair that fell to his shoulders. In his wolf form, he was a huge beast.
“She’s better off without you. You never deserved her.”
“She’s mine! She's my Luna!” Damian roared, prancing with more fury by the moment.
“She’ll always be mine!”
“I’ll die before I let her go back to you,” Rylan growled. I watched them, following the argument in werewolf howlings.
The two were locked in a brutal battle, neither backing down. Each strike was harder than the last, their hatred for each other clear in every movement.
I stood frozen, torn between the two men fighting over me. Damian’s rage was terrifying, but Rylan’s determination gave me a sense of safety I hadn’t felt in a long time.
“You’re weak,” Damian hissed, trying to overpower Rylan. “You think you can keep her safe? You can barely protect yourself.”
Rylan's eyes flashed with defiance.
“I’m not the one who lost everything. That’s on you.”
With a roar, Damian charged at Rylan, his blow aimed to kill. But Rylan was faster, sidestepping and slashing Damian’s arm in one contact.
Damian's wolf staggered back, clutching his bleeding arm, his eyes burning with rage. “This isn’t over,” he spat. I watched as both men shifted back to their human form. Damian was glaring at both of us.
“It’s over when I say it’s over,” Rylan growled, stepping toward him.
Damian glared at me one last time, hatred in his eyes. “You’re mine, Lyra. You'll see."
He turned and stormed off into the trees, leaving us behind.
Rylan lowered as he came closer to me, his expression softening.
“Are you alright?”
I shook my head.
“I…”
I felt myself falling and then darkness.
Lyra's POVWe returned back to the rogue camp when it was almost nightfall. Rylan had managed to help me come awake minutes after I'd fainted. It was cold and I pulled my cloak tightly around me, the cold wind from the mountains biting through my skin as we walked. My heart pounded in my chest, even though I tried to act like I wasn’t affected by what had just happened in the woods. But I had Rylan now. He had promised to help me—help me get the revenge I needed. I clung to that promise like a lifeline."I'd never let him get so close again," he said repeatedly."It wasn't your fault. I wanted some time alone in the woods. I didn't think he'd find me," I said."If I hadn't come there on time, he'd have forced you to go with him back to the Blood Nest pack."The sincerity of the words made me shiver. When we reached the camp, there was an open fire to warm ourselves against.Rylan led me to the fire and helped me settle on the ground. He pulled back, his hands cupping my face. His gaz
Lyra's POVI stayed in the tent for long as the fighting outside continued. There were shouting and then there were footsteps of running. And then there was snarling, but no one came to the tent where I was. I was safe inside. After a while, I got tired of waiting inside. The fighting had stopped and I was sure it was safe outside.I stepped out of the tent, pulling the cloak tighter around my shoulders. The camp was quieter now, save for the crackle of fire in the distance and the low murmurs of the rogues.I didn’t know where I was going. Perhaps, to find Rylan, the one under whose protection I was. There was a tent at the far edge of the camp, set apart from the others. It looked older, the fabric fraying at the edges and its entrance draped with beaded curtains that clinked together softly in the wind. I hadn’t noticed it before, but something about it now drew me. I was supposed to be looking for Rylan. Apparently, the camp had been attacked by another faction of rogues, but I su
Lyra's POV How did Damian make it into the rogue camp once again without being hurt?Had it been him leading the attack earlier?Damian’s eyes stayed on me, dark and cold, and I could see in his eyes, fury. His fury made me want to laugh too. To slap him across the face and curse him for leaving his seeds inside of me when I ought to be planning better ways to bring him down.“You didn’t think you could hide this from me forever, did you?” Damian’s voice cut through the silence, laced with fury and something else I couldn’t quite place. Possession. "I don't wish to set my eyes on you, Damian—""You’re pregnant with my children." His words were a statement, not a question. His hand reached out, hovering near my abdomen like he thought he had the right to touch me, to claim them.Rylan’s low growl rumbled behind me, a clear warning, and I stepped back, breaking Damian’s gaze. "They’re not just yours," I said, my voice firmer than I felt. "They’re mine, too. Don’t forget that."And how
Damian's POVI sat in my office, my hands clasped together on the polished oak desk, my head bowed under the weight of thoughts I couldn't escape. The office was too quiet, the hum of the fireplace offering no real comfort. Even the crackle of flames seemed to mock me, a reminder of the warmth I no longer felt.“We're in a mess. Let's think up ways we can get her back. If Rylan is not letting her out of his sight, that's real trouble.”It was my wolf. I sighed. It had been weeks since Lyra left. Perhaps, I'd not expected things to play out the way they'd eventually played out. How had I let Eloisa get under my flesh and make me do the things I'd done?Until the moment Lyra had left the pack in her humiliation, it hadn't occurred to me how much pain I'd be going through without her. I ran a hand through my hair, groaning softly. The day she'd left replayed in my mind like a nightmare on repeat. I hadn’t realized how far I'd gone astray until it was too late. Eloisa. Her name was a bi
Eloisa's POVThe flickering light of the candle on my vanity danced across the polished surface, casting long shadows on the walls of my room. I leaned forward, inspecting my reflection. The woman staring back looked every bit the Luna I had dreamed of becoming—elegant, poised, commanding. Yet, no amount of beauty or refinement could mask the bitterness churning inside me."Do you need anything else, my lady?" came a soft voice from behind me. My maid, Ilena, hovered near the door, her expression carefully neutral. She had been with me for years, long before I ever imagined I would wear the title of Luna."Yes, stay," I said, gesturing for her to sit. Ilena hesitated for a moment, then sank gracefully into the chair opposite me.She knew what this was. Ilena was not just my maid—she was my confidant, my partner in schemes, and, sometimes, the only person I could trust with my darkest thoughts. Tonight, I needed her more than ever.I exhaled sharply, running a hand through my dark hair
Rylan's POVI sat on a flat stone near the edge of camp, my eyes fixed on the dying fire. The air was cold, but I barely felt it. My thoughts were too tangled, too alive. Lyra. She was here, sleeping just a few tents away, her presence a storm that had swept through my carefully constructed world.“She came to us, Lee. To me.”Lee, my wolf, stirred in my mind, his voice sharp and smug. “Of course she did. Where else would she go? She knows we’re her best chance at freedom. Or maybe she just knows we’re the best.”I smirked, shaking my head. “Don’t get cocky. She’s here for revenge, not for us.”“For now,” Lee countered. “But did you see her wolf? She recognized me, Rylan. The way she looked at us, like we were already connected.”I scoffed, though I couldn’t ignore the flicker of agreement deep in my chest. Lyra’s wolf had been watching me intently, her silver eyes glowing with something I couldn’t quite name. Recognition? Curiosity? Maybe both. I hadn't noticed it first, until she
Lyra's POVThe tent was quiet, but my thoughts were loud. The faint smell of the campfire drifted through the fabric walls, mixing with the damp, earthy scent of the woods. I sat cross-legged on the cot, rubbing my belly as the twins shifted restlessly. They always seemed more active at night, as though they could feel my unease.I couldn’t stop thinking about Damian. About Eloisa. About everything I had lost. And now I was here, hiding among rogues, plotting to destroy the man I once called my mate. My heart ached, but I couldn’t let myself fall apart. Not now.A soft knock at the wooden post outside my tent startled me.“It’s me,” Rylan’s voice said.I hesitated before answering. “Come in.”He pushed aside the flap and stepped inside, his tall frame filling the space. His presence was always so commanding, so steady, even when the world around us wasn’t. He looked tired but alert, his dark eyes scanning the room before landing on me.“We need to talk,” he said, his voice low.I nodd
Lyra's POVAs soon as Rylan left, silence filled the tent. I felt the absence of his presence immediately, as though the air had grown thinner and the walls closer. The only sounds were the faint crackle of the campfire outside and the rustling of the wind through the trees. My hands rested on my belly, feeling the subtle shifts of the twins within. They had been restless earlier but now lay still, as if sensing my thoughts.“He’s handsome,” Snow, my wolf, purred in the back of my mind, breaking the quiet.I let out a sigh.“Snow, I don’t have the energy for this.”“Oh, come on,” she teased. “You felt it too. The way his voice softened, the way he looked at you. Don’t tell me you didn’t notice.”He’s just being kind, I replied firmly. We’re allies. That’s all this is.“Kind?”Snow scoffed, her voice laced with amusement. “Lyra, allies don’t look at each other like that. And don’t even get me started on how his wolf feels about me. There’s something there, whether you admit it or not.”
Lyra's POVThe room was silent except for the soft rustling of the bedding and the quiet hum of Olivia and Mildred as they worked, moving about the room with the same gentle care they always gave the babies. I sat on the edge of the bed, my hands resting in my lap, fingers nervously twisting the fabric of my dress as I stared at the floor. My mind wouldn’t settle.Damian was on my mind."No," I whispered to myself, shaking my head in frustration. "It’s not true. You don’t feel anything for him anymore.""It is true," Snow, my wolf, replied in a calm but insistent voice inside my mind. "You’re still drawn to him. Stop trying to deny it."I bit my lip, trying to hold back the flood of emotions threatening to spill over. "I don’t," I muttered, more to myself than to Snow. "It’s only because he’s the father of my babies. And my former husband. That’s it.""Lyra," Snow said, her voice soft but firm. "You know that’s not the whole truth. You still have feelings for him. You’re still attract
Damian’s POVAs I left the nursery, I couldn’t help the anger simmering beneath my skin. My fists clenched at my sides as I stomped down the hallway, my chest tight with frustration. The image of Lyra leaning into Rylan, her trust in him so clear, replayed in my mind like a taunt. It stung more than I wanted to admit. It wasn't just a knowledge that he was in love with her. I could see it now. It didn't make it hurt less. If anything, the more I thought of it, the more exasperated I got over the knowledge of it.The way he looked at her, the way he hovered protectively—it was obvious. But seeing Lyra respond to him like that, seeing her find comfort in his presence, was a slap in the face. I’d hoped, prayed even, that she hadn’t fallen for him. Yet, what I saw in that room spoke volumes. They were already a pair, weren’t they? A couple. They are running the pack together after all. What did I expect? The thought tore at my heart, and I felt a pang of jealousy so sharp it almost brough
Rylan's POVLyra didn't ask for me to keep Damian away from the babies. Later when she said she was calm enough, she asked for Damian to come take a proper look at the babies. But I wasn't sure she'd completely gotten over her anger like she said she had.Standing near the door, I watched Lyra’s body tense, her anger sharp and clear as she confronted Damian again. The same thing she'd said she would not do. She looked so strong, but I knew the pain behind her cold words. I took a deep breath and walked to her side.“Lyra,” I said softly, draping my arm over her shoulders. “You don’t need to do this. Forget that terrible night. Forget what he did. You’re in a better place now.”Her body relaxed against me, just slightly. It wasn’t much, but it was enough for me to feel her leaning into me. I kept my hand there, steady and firm, silently reminding her that she wasn’t alone.Damian turned then, his eyes catching the way we stood together. His jaw tightened, and a frown spread across his
Lyra's POVThe room was calm, quiet except for the soft voices of Mildred and Olivia as they talked about the babies. I listened, nodding along, but my mind wandered. The boys slept peacefully in their cot, their tiny chests rising and falling, oblivious to the chaos around them. The door creaked open.I looked up sharply, my body immediately tensing. Rylan stepped inside, his expression unreadable, but before I could ask him what he was doing, someone else appeared behind him.Damian.My breath caught, and my chest tightened. The sight of him made my stomach churn. His gaze found mine, and I felt my anger flare instantly. I gripped the arm of my chair, willing myself to stay calm, but it was nearly impossible.“He needed to see the babies, Lyra,” Rylan said, his voice steady. Those words knocked the wind out of me. I felt my anger dissolve, but only slightly. I couldn’t let it fade entirely—not when Damian was standing there, looking at me as if nothing had happened. I clenched my ja
Eloisa's POVDamian wanted to get his babies. And of course their mother too. There was no way he would bring back babies without their mother. He left me behind. He doesn’t care about me or my position here. He’s going to see Lyra. If he brings her back, she's going to take back her place and I will be kicked out of this pack that I’ve worked so hard to take control of. That’s what I’m worried about. What if he comes back with her? What if she manages to worm her way back into his heart? No. Maybe she didn't want him. But what if he found a way to convince her that she still wanted him? What if she takes revenge on me for what I did? I’ve stolen her place, her title. She’s going to hate me for it. And I don’t know if I can handle it. She was always a threat to me, and now, with Damian gone, she could very well come back and take everything. She could ruin all my plans, and I would be left with nothing.I curl my fingers into a fist, clenching them tight as I try to control my breath
Damian's POVI stand in the royal pack house, looking around the room they’ve given me. For a moment, I feel a rush of anger. This is not where I belong. I shouldn’t be here, stuck in this foreign place with Rylan in charge. I’m an Alpha. I should be calling the shots. But as I scan the room, the fact that I’m being treated like an Alpha here is hard to ignore. They’ve brought me food, fitting for someone of my status. A roasted leg of lamb, vegetables cooked to perfection, and bread that’s warm, soft, and fresh. It's not what I would have chosen for myself, but I can’t deny that it’s well prepared. It’s almost as if they’ve tried to remind me of my former standing. I hate Rylan, but even I can’t argue with the care they’ve taken to serve me.The food is good. The treatment is what I’m accustomed to. But still, this isn’t my home. This is Rylan’s home. He’s the one with control now, not me. It burns me to think about it. I’ve spent years leading my pack, the Blood Nest Pack and it's a
Lyra's POV I sat alone in the nursery, staring at the two little faces that were resting peacefully in their cribs. The door to the nursery creaked open, and I turned toward it. My heart skipped a beat when I saw Rylan step into the room. His expression was serious, and there was a weight to his steps, like he was carrying something heavy that he needed to share."Rylan," I greeted, my voice steady but cautious. "What’s going on?"He didn’t answer immediately, his eyes flicking over to the babies, before he met my gaze again. "I need to talk to you about something," he said, his tone firm but calm.I already knew what this was about. There was no need for him to tell me. But I also knew that Rylan had never been one to leave things unsaid, so I didn’t interrupt. I just folded my arms over my chest and waited for him to continue."If it’s about Damian that you let into the pack," I said, trying to keep my voice even, "then you should know by now that I’ve heard. It’s not a secret."R
Rylan's POVThe grand hall of the pack house was empty, save for a few of my trusted men who had been ordered to stand guard. They glanced up as we passed, their expressions serious but unreadable. I was sure they were as alert as I was. Damian had always been a wildcard, and there was no telling what kind of trouble he might stir up if left unchecked. When we reached the center of the hall, I stopped and turned to face him."Damian," I said, my voice firm, "I’m only letting you into the royal pack house because you claim you’re not here for trouble. You’ve made your intentions clear, and I’m choosing to believe you.”He didn’t speak right away, just watched me, as if sizing me up. It was clear he wasn’t intimidated by me, and why should he be? We had been enemies for years, and yet there was still some mutual respect between us."But let me make something very clear," I added, making sure my words cut through the silence. "I’ve already sent men to comb the woods surrounding the pack.
Lyra's POVI was pacing back and forth in my room when Olivia pushed the door open. Her face looked tense, and I could tell something was wrong. The air in the room felt heavy, and I could feel my pulse quickening as I turned to face her.“What is it?” I demanded, unable to hide the impatience in my voice.Olivia hesitated, like she was trying to figure out how to deliver the news. That only made me more anxious.“Alpha Damian’s in the pack,” she said finally, the words tumbling out like they had been too heavy to hold back. For a moment, it was like the floor had dropped out from beneath me. Damian? Here? That didn’t make any sense. My heart pounded as a wave of anger rose in my chest.“What do you mean Damian’s in the pack?” I snapped. “How could that even happen? And why would Rylan let him in?”Olivia flinched slightly at the edge in my tone, but she stood her ground. “From what I’ve heard, he came to see the babies,” she explained quickly. “He told Alpha Rylan he’s here for peace
