Lyra's POV

We returned back to the rogue camp when it was almost nightfall. Rylan had managed to help me come awake minutes after I'd fainted.

It was cold and I pulled my cloak tightly around me, the cold wind from the mountains biting through my skin as we walked. My heart pounded in my chest, even though I tried to act like I wasn’t affected by what had just happened in the woods.

But I had Rylan now. He had promised to help me—help me get the revenge I needed. I clung to that promise like a lifeline.

"I'd never let him get so close again," he said repeatedly.

"It wasn't your fault. I wanted some time alone in the woods. I didn't think he'd find me," I said.

"If I hadn't come there on time, he'd have forced you to go with him back to the Blood Nest pack."

The sincerity of the words made me shiver.

When we reached the camp, there was an open fire to warm ourselves against.

Rylan led me to the fire and helped me settle on the ground.

He pulled back, his hands cupping my face. His gaze searched mine, concern clear in the depths of his eyes.

"You've been too quiet and you've been defensive. Did he hurt you before I arrived? Tell me if he did. I'll—"

"No, Rylan. He didn’t hurt me," I said quickly.

"At least... not this time."

His grip tightened ever so slightly.

"You'll get the revenge you want, Lyra.  He had no right to humiliate you the way he had done. He made a mockery of your loyalty to him," he said.

I nodded. After Damian, then it should be Eloisa. She was my best friend, the one person who knew everything about me. Yet she was the one who had hurt me the most.

"Come on, you should rest," Rylan said, guiding me toward the tent that had been set up for me.

"It's been a hectic day for you."

I got into the tent.

"I’ll be outside if you need anything," Rylan said, his voice soft, almost tender. He looked at me with those intense eyes of his, and I could see the care there. He wasn’t just helping me for the sake of the cause.

He cared.

I gave him a small nod, trying to ignore the strange flutter in my chest that his presence always seemed to cause. Rylan was attractive, strong, and protective—everything I should want. But I couldn’t forget why I was here. I was with him because he was an enemy of Damian. He would help me carry out my revenge.

As soon as Rylan left, I felt the sudden urge to throw up. I got off the bed and vomited into the basin

"Lyra?" Rylan’s voice was suddenly outside the tent, filled with concern.

"I’m fine," I called back quickly, not wanting him to see me like this. "It’s nothing."

But it wasn’t nothing.

Before I could stop him, Rylan had pushed his way back into the tent, his eyes scanning me with worry.

"You're not fine," he said, his brow drawn together.

"I’m getting the doctor."

"No! Rylan, I don’t need a doctor," I protested, but he was already out the door, determined to see that I'm alright.

I sank down onto the cot, my heart racing. It wasn’t long before Rylan returned with the local healer, a grizzled old man who had been living with the rogues for as long as I could remember.

"She’s sick," Rylan explained, his voice tight with concern. "She threw up."

The healer didn’t waste any time. He came to my side, his hands gentle but firm as he examined me. I watched his face closely, trying to read his expression, but he gave nothing away.

"Open your mouth," he ordered, and I did as he said. He pressed his fingers against my stomach, his touch surprisingly light, but I winced all the same. There was a strange sensation there, like a pressure I hadn’t noticed before.

Finally, he stood back, his face solemn.

"She’s pregnant."

I blinked, my heart stopping for a moment. "What?"

"Pregnant," the healer repeated, looking at me with the same serious expression. "And it feels like there’s more than one child in there. Perhaps, she's carrying triplets."

"No," I whispered, shaking my head. "No, that’s not possible."

Rylan stood frozen beside me, his face pale as he looked between me and the healer.

"How... how far along?"

"Not far. A few weeks at most," the healer said.

Triplets.

I was carrying Damian’s triplets.

What cruel fate!

I had sworn to see the end of Damian but now I had found out I was carrying his babies?

When the healer left, Rylan stayed quiet for a long time. His jaw was tight, his fists clenched at his sides. I could see the storm of emotions brewing inside him, but when he finally spoke, his voice was calm, controlled.

"You're carrying the seeds of the man who had humiliated you before the world."

He paused and I looked up at him, my eyes wide with fear.

"Rylan, I don’t know what to do."

"You don’t have to know right now. But one thing is for sure, I won't let him lay claims on you nor let him come close to you again."

His words were reassuring, but before I could respond, there was a sudden shout from outside the tent. Rylan stood up immediately, his body tensing.

"Stay here," he ordered, his voice sharp with authority. "I’ll be right back."

I watched him disappear through the tent flap, my heart pounding in my chest. The sounds of raised voices grew louder, more urgent. Something was happening outside, and I had a sinking feeling that whatever it was, it wasn’t good.

I stood up, my body still trembling from the shock of the news. My hands instinctively went to my stomach, where my children—Damian’s children—were growing inside me.

What was I going to do now?

I took a deep breath and stepped toward the tent flap, needing to see what was happening outside.

The shouts grew louder.

And then, the sound of teeth snarling.

The fighting had stopped and I was sure it was safe outside.I stepped out of the tent, pulling the cloak tighter around my shoulders. I was supposed to be looking for Rylan. Apparently, the camp had been attacked by another faction of rogues, but I su

Damian's POVI sat in my office, my hands clasped together on the polished oak desk, my head bowed under the weight of thoughts I couldn't escape. The office was too quiet, the hum of the fireplace offering no real comfort. Even the crackle of flames seemed to mock me, a reminder of the warmth I no longer felt.“We're in a mess. Let's think up ways we can get her back. If Rylan is not letting her out of his sight, that's real trouble.”It was my wolf. I sighed. It had been weeks since Lyra left. Eloisa's POVThe flickering light of the candle on my vanity danced across the polished surface, casting long shadows on the walls of my room. I leaned forward, inspecting my reflection. The woman staring back looked every bit the Luna I had dreamed of becoming—elegant, poised, commanding. Yet, no amount of beauty or refinement could mask the bitterness churning inside me."Do you need anything else, my lady?" came a soft voice from behind me. My maid, Ilena, hovered near the door, her expression carefully neutral. She had been with me for years, long before I ever imagined I would wear the title of Luna."Yes, stay," I said, gesturing for her to sit. Ilena hesitated for a moment, then sank gracefully into the chair opposite me.She knew what this was. Ilena was not just my maid—she was my confidant, my partner in schemes, and, sometimes, the only person I could trust with my darkest thoughts. Rylan's POVI sat on a flat stone near the edge of camp, my eyes fixed on the dying fire. The air was cold, but I barely felt it. My thoughts were too tangled, too alive. Lyra. She was here, sleeping just a few tents away, her presence a storm that had swept through my carefully constructed world.“She came to us, Lee. To me.”Lee, my wolf, stirred in my mind, his voice sharp and smug. “Of course she did. Where else would she go? She knows we’re her best chance at freedom. Or maybe she just knows we’re the best.”I smirked, shaking my head. “Don’t get cocky. She’s here for revenge, not for us.”“For now,” Lee countered. “But did you see her wolf? She recognized me, Rylan. The way she looked at us, like we were already connected.”I scoffed, though I couldn’t ignore the flicker of agreement deep in my chest. Lyra’s wolf had been watching me intently, her silver eyes glowing with something I couldn’t quite name. Recognition? Curiosity? Maybe both. I hadn't noticed it first, until she

I sat cross-legged on the cot, rubbing my belly as the twins shifted restlessly. They always seemed more active at night, as though they could feel my unease.I couldn’t stop thinking about Damian. About Eloisa. About everything I had lost. And now I was here, hiding among rogues, plotting to destroy the man I once called my mate. My heart ached, but I couldn’t let myself fall apart. Not now.A soft knock at the wooden post outside my tent startled me.“It’s me,” Rylan’s voice said.I hesitated before answering. “Come in.”He pushed aside the flap and stepped inside, his tall frame filling the space. His presence was always so commanding, so steady, even when the world around us wasn’t. Lyra's POVAs soon as Rylan left, silence filled the tent. I felt the absence of his presence immediately, as though the air had grown thinner and the walls closer. The only sounds were the faint crackle of the campfire outside and the rustling of the wind through the trees. My hands rested on my belly, feeling the subtle shifts of the twins within. They had been restless earlier but now lay still, as if sensing my thoughts.“He’s handsome,” Snow, my wolf, purred in the back of my mind, breaking the quiet.I let out a sigh.“Snow, I don’t have the energy for this.”“Oh, come on,” she teased. “You felt it too. The way his voice softened, the way he looked at you. Don’t tell me you didn’t notice.”He’s just being kind, I replied firmly. We’re allies. That’s all this is.“Kind?”Snow scoffed, her voice laced with amusement. “Lyra, allies don’t look at each other like that. And don’t even get me started on how his wolf feels about me. There’s something there, whether you admit it or not.”

It’s almost as if they’ve tried to remind me of my former standing. I hate Rylan, but even I can’t argue with the care they’ve taken to serve me.The food is good. The treatment is what I’m accustomed to. But still, this isn’t my home. This is Rylan’s home. He’s the one with control now, not me. It burns me to think about it. Lyra's POV I sat alone in the nursery, staring at the two little faces that were resting peacefully in their cribs. The door to the nursery creaked open, and I turned toward it. My heart skipped a beat when I saw Rylan step into the room. His expression was serious, and there was a weight to his steps, like he was carrying something heavy that he needed to share."Rylan," I greeted, my voice steady but cautious. "What’s going on?"He didn’t answer immediately, his eyes flicking over to the babies, before he met my gaze again. "I need to talk to you about something," he said, his tone firm but calm.I already knew what this was about. There was no need for him to tell me. But I also knew that Rylan had never been one to leave things unsaid, so I didn’t interrupt. Rylan's POVThe grand hall of the pack house was empty, save for a few of my trusted men who had been ordered to stand guard. They glanced up as we passed, their expressions serious but unreadable. I was sure they were as alert as I was. Damian had always been a wildcard, and there was no telling what kind of trouble he might stir up if left unchecked. When we reached the center of the hall, I stopped and turned to face him."Damian," I said, my voice firm, "I’m only letting you into the royal pack house because you claim you’re not here for trouble. You’ve made your intentions clear, and I’m choosing to believe you.”He didn’t speak right away, just watched me, as if sizing me up. It was clear he wasn’t intimidated by me, and why should he be? We had been enemies for years, and yet there was still some mutual respect between us."But let me make something very clear," I added, making sure my words cut through the silence. "I’ve already sent men to comb the woods surrounding the pack.
