WAS I DREAMING?
I swallowed hard, my throat dry as I took in the man before me.
The Alpha of Red's pack.
Luca's father!
Even with the flashing lights dancing across his face, there was no mistaking him. The strong jawline, the sharp glint in his eyes, the way his presence commanded attention without him even trying.
I couldn't breathe.
My eyes roamed carelessly over him. He looked much more handsome from a closer view, almost impossible to believe he had a son as grown as Luca.
But I couldn't let him know who I was. Not tonight. Not like this.
How would I explain myself if he did? Your son cheated on me, so I'm here to do the same by losing my priceless virginity to a stranger? Hell, no!
I forced a coy smile, tilting my head just slightly, pretending to be just another girl at the bar. Someone he’d never met before. "You scared my company away," I purred, my voice lower than usual, hoping the makeup and the change in my hair were enough to throw him off.
His dark gaze ran over me slowly, drinking me in, and for a moment I thought—no, hoped—he hadn’t recognized me.
There was something else in his eyes though, curiosity mingled with desire. "He wasn't worth your time," he said simply, his voice deep and rough, cutting right through the deafening music.
I swallowed, hoping he couldn't see how nervous he was making me.
I shrugged, trying to act nonchalant. "And you are?"
He glanced at me, stepping closer, his body radiating heat and dominance. "That's something for you to find out for yourself." His voice had that same authoritative touch, but tonight, it sounded extremely hot.
There was this dare in his voice that made me want to do as he said, but I held back. This is not why I'm here. Well, I'm here to flirt with a man and seduce him into spending the night with me, but not my arranged mate's father.
I looked away, taking a huge sip of my drink. I was hoping if I stayed silent, and acted boring, he would go away, but he didn't.
“What's your name?" He demanded.
I held my breath. Oh no! Think fast, Raven. "Anna.” The name rolled off my tongue.
"Anna!” He breathed, making the name sound so damn sexy. "Beautiful name.”
Another long sip. "And what's your name, Alpha?” I blurted out, before I could stop myself.
He turned to me, his eyes burning yet enticing. "Is it that obvious?” He asked.
I held his eyes. "Yes. Only an Alpha exudes this enthralling aura, it makes me so nervous.” I don't know where the courage was coming from.
For the first time in the few minutes we met, his lips curved up into a smirk. Even that was extremely seductive. “It's the first time I don't mind that title.” He edged closer, "I want to hear you say it when you're pinned over the wall."
Every nerve in my body became on edge. This was dangerous—he was dangerous—but for once, I wanted to be reckless. I wanted to forget everything, to drown in something other than betrayal and heartbreak.
I bit the corner of my lips subconsciously, “I can do that." I mumbled flirtatiously.
His blue eyes bored into me, making bumps crawl on my skin. “I can also replace that nervous feeling with something else… something more intense… more pleasurable.”
I swallowed. This is it, there's no going back now. “Why don't you?"
Without a word, I let him take my hand, his grip firm yet careful, like he knew I might run if he held on too tight. He led me through the crowded bar, out into the cool night air, the music fading behind us.
He finally let go of my hand, and the next minute, he shifted. A gasp escaped my lips as his wolf came into view, black fur that shone like the night. And those eyes retained their black-hole quality—I couldn't look away.
“Hop on!" I heard his voice in my mind.
I didn't hesitate. His fur was as soft as it looked, so comfortable I wanted to remain there forever. “Hold on tight, Anna."
He began racing, my heart doing the run with him. The tension was thick between us. Each step into the woods felt like crossing a line I could never uncross, but I didn’t care. Not tonight.
Soon, a small cabin came into view, half-hidden by the trees, the soft glow of candlelight flickering through the window. It was simple, secluded — perfect.
He shifted back to his human form to open the door, standing aside to let me in first. My heart hammered in my chest as I stepped inside. The scent of woodsmoke and earth filled the air, grounding me just enough to keep me from trembling.
The door clicked shut behind us.
I turned to face him, every wall I had left crumbling under the weight of his gaze. My eyes fell on his bare chest, and I felt a pool beneath my legs. There was no pretense now, no need for words. I stepped into him, my hands sliding up his chest, feeling the hard muscle beneath his shirt.
He cupped my face, his thumb tracing my bottom lip, his touch sending a jolt straight through me. "Who are you?" he asked softly, the question hanging between us.
"No one," I whispered, my voice cracking slightly. "Just a girl who needed to escape."
He didn’t push for more. Instead, he kissed me.
It was gentle at first, almost hesitant, but the moment I responded—the moment I clung to him like he was the only thing keeping me upright—it turned desperate.
Clothes disappeared in a blur of hands and heat, my back pressing against the worn wooden wall as his mouth claimed mine again and again. Every touch, every kiss, every breath was laced with something primal, something neither of us could control.
He pinned me across the wall, making an extremely pleasurable assault on my neck. I moaned loudly, my legs turning to jelly.
“Call me Alpha!" He growled in my ears.
My legs pressed against each other, as I felt my arousal. “Alpha!" I cooed.
He let out another growl. The next second, he lifted me effortlessly, my legs wrapping around his waist, and carried me to the small bed in the corner. There was no hesitation, no second guessing—only desire.
The world outside didn’t exist. It was only us.
For the first time in so long, I felt wanted. Needed. Like I wasn’t invisible.
I lost myself in him—in the way he whispered against my skin, in the way his hands knew exactly where to touch, in the way he made me forget every single heartbreak that brought me here.
It didn't even feel like my first time, I mean the pain everyone talked about, but it was surely the most special moment of my life.
And when it was over, when we lay tangled together in the dim light, his arm heavy across my waist, I let myself believe—just for a second—that maybe I could be someone else.
But morning came too soon.
The soft light filtering through the window illuminated the room, and as the haze of sleep faded, reality crashed down on me.
I turned my head slowly, my heart stopping when I saw him—my Alpha—asleep beside me.
My eyes widened in shock. My Alpha.
My mate's father.
My body went cold, my mind spinning as the weight of what I had done settled over me like a stone.
What the hell have I done?
MY HEART HAMMERED painfully in my chest as I sat up, careful not to wake him. What have you done, Raven? What have you done? were the only words that rang over and over again in my head. The events of the night before played on a loop in my mind—the heat of his touch, the way he made me feel seen, the way I gave him every broken piece of me without a second thought. It felt unbelievably good, but it's the most reckless decision I've made in my entire life. And I sure as hell regret this already. My hands trembled as I slipped out of bed, quietly gathering my clothes. Every brush of fabric against my skin felt heavier than it should—like the weight of my own shame pressing down on me.He shifted slightly in his sleep, a soft sigh escaping his lips, and for a moment, I just stood there, watching him. He looked so calm, like he had no troubles in the world. I just wanted to return to his arms. It would be so easy to crawl back into bed, to pretend none of this mattered. But it did.I
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN ONE'S HEART STOPS? Do they die? Or do they just remain frozen in place, like I was now.I watched his face twist into a confused look, his eyes holding the same expression. “You… I know you.” He said.At that point, I prayed desperately that the ground would open up and swallow me, or even better, I'd just disappear into the thin air. What do I do? Run?I cleared my throat, looking away from him. It's better to explain myself at this point. “Alpha… I…” He cut me short. "I… recognize you. You're Luca’s mate, am I correct?" I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. I was overthinking it all, he doesn't recognize me.I nodded rapidly. "Yes! Yes, Alpha" The Alpha’s eyes narrowed slightly, his gaze sweeping over me in a way that made my skin prickle. There was no malice in his expression, but something else — curiosity, like a puzzle piece that didn’t quite fit, and it bothered him more than it should.“And yet…” he murmured, almost to himself. “There’s something
CHAPTER 8NUMB.I stood frozen, my own reflection staring back at me, wild-eyed and panicked. The knock at the door sent a jolt through my chest. My pulse thundered in my ears, drowning out rational thought. This is it. He knows. He’s come for answers.Another knock. My breath caught in my throat as I forced my feet to move, my hand trembling as I reached for the handle. The door creaked open—and I almost collapsed in relief. It was just a maid. Her expression was carefully neutral, her hands folded in front of her apron. “Miss Raven, I was sent by your father to check if you needed anything.”I let out a sharp breath, my heart still racing. “Oh… no. No, I’m fine.”The maid’s brow furrowed slightly. “Are you sure? You look
CHAPTER 9MY BREATH SEIZED.Was it because the man in front of me looked incredibly hot and it made me breathless? Or was it because he wasn't supposed to be here? Or rather, simply because I was guilty of deceiving him and I was simply dealing with my consciousness.I swallowed, looking away instantly. Break the hex!I hadn't seen the Alpha since 3 days ago in the woods. He had returned from his self-taken vacation but it still felt like he hadn't. No announcements was given, only those who had seen him knew he had returned. He seemed to like his isolation. But what is he doing here now?The Alpha filled the doorway like a shadow, his presence sucking the air from the room. My breath caught in my throat, my hands clutching the windowsill.“Can I come in?" I heard him say.
CHAPTER 10PAUSE!Yes, the world paused at that moment. I couldn’t breathe, not with Julian standing so close, his hand still wrapped around my waist like it belonged there. His words echoed in my head, over and over, refusing to fade.“I know who you are, Raven.” he repeated, “Or should I say Anna."My heart stumbled into a wild rhythm, my hands gripping his forearm to steady myself—or maybe to ground me before I floated into the mess of emotions he stirred inside me.I opened my mouth, but nothing came out. It took a second attempt before my voice, trembling and thin, pushed past my lips. “Please… please, you can't tell anyone.”His brow lifted, but he didn’t let me go. “My Raven, you really thought you could hide me, huh?"I swallowed. "Please let me go!”
CHAPTER 11MY SAVIOR.He stood in the doorway, shoulders squared, eyes burning with something fierce and undeniable. The silence in the hall was suffocating, no one daring to breathe. Not even me. But I was more breathless from seeing him again.“Stop the ceremony,” He repeated “This wedding is put on hold.”Gasps rippled through the crowd, Luca’s face twisting into disbelief and fury. “Father, what the fuck are you doing?”Julian didn’t answer his son. His eyes locked on mine—and in that moment, everything else fell away.He was here. For me.Even though I had no idea what came next, a soaring feeling of bliss came over my chest.Father stepped forward, at the same time I stepped away from Luca. He shot m
CHAPTER 12I WAS TOO SHAKEN TO MOVE!A hand, strong and unyielding, caught Luca’s wrist mid-air.The grip belonged to Julian. His eyes blazed with fury, his presence swallowing the clearing like a storm rolling in. “Touch her, and you’ll regret the day you were born.”Luca yanked his arm free, rage and humiliation battling in his expression. “Why do you care?” His voice cracked. “She’s nothing to you, she's nothing at all.”Julian stepped between us, shielding me completely. “Now, that’s where you’re wrong.” His voice was low, dangerous. “What are you turning into? This is not how I raised you.”Julian’s presence was a force, an undeniable wave of dominance that sent chills through my spine. Luca, however, didn’t flinch. His body vibrated
CHAPTER 13DISAPPEAR JUST LIKE POOF! That's what I wanted to do.The way he stared at me made my knees weak, like I would crumble to the ground the next minute, and I'd never be able to ride again.“Alpha…” I managed to say, but he cut me short before I could form the words.“Shhh!" He cooed in my ears. “But I'm not going to force anything, I promise. You came to me that night, and you gave yourself to me." He looked deep into my eyes, “I'll make sure that wasn't the last time, Raven."The burning stare in his eyes made me want to melt. I can't hold this on for much longer, it's killing me.I jerked away from him at that point, hoping that the distance would help keep me sane. “Alpha, what happened that night was a mistake, okay? I was carried away by the pain." I blurted out.It didn't hel
CHAPTER 38RAVEN'S POVI HAD FORGOTTEN. I had forgotten what it felt like. I had forgotten how beautiful this feeling of being held by him felt. His lips worked on mine, slow at first, like he didn't want to push too much. I wanted him to.Before I could restrict myself, I reached out, holding his collars as I pulled him closer. His second hand found my waist too, the unexplainable feeling of warmth steering through me from his touch. He bit my lips, just before his tongue slipped into my mouth, ready to explore. A moan escaped my lips, loud but I didn't care.“I missed this," Julian's raspy voice echoed in my ears as he murmured against my lips.I was overwhelmed. The pleasure was just too much. “Show me!" I whispered, my voice breathless. “Show me how much you missed this." He stepped back ever so slightly, and at that moment, I saw the intense desire flash through his eyes—the one I had gotten used to. Oh how much I missed that!“My Raven, indeed, I'll show you how much I've miss
CHAPTER 37RAVEN'S POVWHAT DID I EXPECT? The silence that followed my confession was suffocating. For the longest time, all I had ever felt from the pack was judgment. Doubt. Cold indifference that burned worse than any fire. That had finally changed. Now the mood had shifted. The anger that had once been directed at me was now aimed at Luca and Elena. Whispers grew into murmurs, and murmurs into outrage.“How could they?” someone hissed.“Betraying their own friend, that's heartless.” another voice growled.“I always knew that Elena was up to no good. How dare she try to steal her best friend's partner?" I saw it in their eyes—the guilt, the regret for ever siding against me. For believing lies over the truth I had been screaming for so long.Luca was nowhere to be seen, but I knew he was feeling the weight of his actions. And Elena… I exhaled, forcing myself to let it go. It wasn’t my burden to carry anymore.Father bowed his head, but before he did, I saw a tear fall. “I'm sorry
CHAPTER 36RAVEN'S POVABYSS.I drifted in and out of consciousness, barely aware of what was happening around me. I wasn't unconscious, but I was fully awake either. Just somewhere in between, floating in an abyss of an underlying misery.I felt movement—the steady rhythm of footsteps. The firm, unwavering grip of Julian’s arms around me was not something I could unfeel. It was there, not subtle, rather overwhelming. I could hear him breathing, hear the way his heart pounded against his chest. He was holding me like I was the most precious thing in the world, like he would never let me go.The cold air bit at my skin, but I wasn’t afraid anymore. I was going home. Finally, I was finally going home. This was the only thought that filled my mind as I eventually passed out.I couldn't tell how long I was out. The first thing I noticed was the smell. It wasn’t the damp rot of the rogues’ hideout, or the thick scent of fear clinging to my skin. It was home.Home? The crisp morning air dr
CHAPTER 35RAVEN'S POV HESITATION SPREAD THROUGH THEIR FACES.“What?” the one holding me snapped.“You heard me,” the rogue panted. “She’s not to be harmed.”Confusion flickered through the room. But I didn’t wait for them to figure it out.The moment their grip on my arms loosened, I wrenched free, stepping back toward the door. The rogue leader’s words echoed in my mind. You are more valuable than you realize. What the hell did that mean? And why were they letting me go?One of them glared at me, and I recognized him as the rogue of earlier—the one who had seemed too familiar. He sneered. “We can't just let her leave like that. She hasn't fulfilled the purpose for which she was brought here." The other one countered him immediately, “Do you intend to go against the master? She will not be pleased, and you know what happens after that." The rogue who had brought in the information, followed up with his own subtle warning. “It seems you don't love the life you live anymore." The r
CHAPTER 34RAVEN'S POVPAIN DRAGGED ME BACK TO CONSCIOUSNESS.It came in waves, sharp and unrelenting. My wrists ached from the rough ropes binding my hands, and my body throbbed from the fight I had put up before they captured me. My head pounded, my breathing shallow as I took in my surroundings. The room was dark and cold, the scent of damp stone and old blood filling the air. A single torch flickered on the far wall, casting shadows that danced eerily across the rough stone floor. My pulse quickened. Where the hell was I?A dull, throbbing pain echoed through my skull. The darkness around me was thick, suffocating. I tried to move, but the effort sent sharp pain shooting through my limbs. My mind was sluggish, like I was wading through fog.Where… am I?Then, it all came back—the slap, the heartbreak, running into the woods, and then… the attack. The struggle. The hands grabbing her. The blow to my head. Everything came back.My heart pounded against my ribs.I forced my breathi
CHAPTER 33JULIAN'S POVWHAT HAVE I DONE?The moment the guard delivered the news, my world tilted. My Raven!"A group of rogues were seen near the borders. A fight broke out. We can’t find Lady Raven."The words slammed into me like a death blow. This is all my fault. It's all my fault.Silence stretched between the guard and I for a beat before I moved. My body was a blur of motion as I stormed past the warriors gathered in the courtyard. My pulse thundered in my ears, my wolf clawing to break free. She was out there—alone, or worse. I had to find her.“Get every tracker we have,” I barked at my warrior, my voice sharp enough to cut steel. “Now.”The pack stirred with unease. The weight of my fury was suffocating, even I felt it. I was like a storm ready to tear through anything in its way.As we set to depart, I heard my name. “Julian," I turned to see Desmond, Raven's father. His face was pale, as if he hadn't sleep in weeks. I would have walked away, but something in his eyes ma
CHAPTER 32JULIAN'S POVThe sting of Raven’s slap burned across my cheek, but it was nothing compared to the pain in her eyes. She had never looked at me like that before. Like I was a stranger. Like I was someone she despised.I had known this moment would come.I had felt it building, every time I walked past her without a word. Every time I ignored the way her presence pulled at me like gravity. Every time I saw the hurt on her face and told myself that pushing her away was necessary. But this? Watching her break, watching her crumble in front of the entire pack—this was worse than I had ever imagined. She didn’t wait for an explanation, didn't even give me a chance to tell her the truth. She just turned and ran away, like I was a plague.I should have followed her. Every instinct in me screamed to chase after her, to hold her, to tell her the truth. But my feet didn’t move.Because I had done this. This was all my fault. Before I could even process what had happened, a new voice c
CHAPTER 31DEJA VÙ I watched it happen a second time, and just like before, I had no idea how to react. There, standing way too close to him, was Elena. His back was to me, but I saw it all unfold. Her hands were on his chest. And his lips—his lips were on hers. The breath left my lungs. For a second, I couldn’t move. I couldn’t breathe.Elena was the first to notice me. She pulled away slowly, turning to me with a victorious smirk. Julian’s head snapped toward me.His eyes widened, but it didn’t matter.Nothing mattered anymore.Something inside me cracked. No, not cracked. It broke.I broke.Without a single word, I turned and walked away.I didn’t stop when I heard him call my name. I didn’t stop when my vision blurred.I just kept walking, because if I stopped, I would fall apart.I knew I would. The world around me blurred as I stormed out of Julian’s quarters, my chest burning with betrayal. My hands trembled, my vision swam, but I didn’t stop. I couldn’t stop. His lips had bee
CHAPTER 30IT STARTED WITH THE LITTLE THINGS.I was a fool to have thought that I'd find peace that'd last forever. My life has always been that way—lonely and sad, one minute; and then I'd find peace, but it was of course, always temporary. It started with the little things.Julian stopped waiting for me in the mornings. He left before I woke up, his side of the bed cold. When I searched for him, I was met with short answers, curt nods, and empty looks.I told myself it was nothing. That he was busy. That he was just dealing with the weight of his responsibilities. But when I reached for his hand one evening, and he pulled away like my touch burned him, I knew—something was wrong."Julian, talk to me," I demanded that night, stepping into his office even after he asked me to leave. He barely looked up from the papers in front of him. "I'm busy."I swallowed. "You're always busy."Silence.I stepped closer. "Did I… do something?"That made him pause. His golden eyes lifted to mine, bu
