SHE DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING.
I half-expected her to scream, or to return the slap, but instead, she smirked at me.
And damn, did I want to slap her again.
“Oh Raven darling, you really had to let that off your chest." She mocked.
I clenched my fists angrily, my anger threatening to explode. Nia was dangerously quiet, but I could feel the anger of the both of us, and it was extremely overwhelming.
“How could you do this to me? Elena, you're supposed to be my best…”
She cut me off before the words could even come out. "Oh shut up, Raven. Shut up already." The smirk was wiped off her face, and was replaced by a gruesome glare. “I'm supposed to be your best friend? When you went on to have all the best things in the world, did you ever remember you had a best friend? You left me in those dirty stables alone, you began working in the palace and you forgot totally about me."
I opened my mouth in horror. “Have you ever stopped to think about what I was going through at that time, Elena? My mother died for crying out loud." My lips were quivering, from the anger and the hurt.
She sneered. “Well, I don't care Raven. You got all the good things, caring parents, a life in the palace, everyone's attention, but I won't let you get the Prince. He is mine, he has always been mine to begin with. He doesn't deserve a wretched lowlife like you."
You…!
I held myself back as much as I could. "Elena, there's still a chance to redeem yourself. If the council finds out what you've done, you're going to be in big trouble.”
"Oh, what should I do to redeem myself? Apologize?” She jeered dramatically. "Oh! I'm so scared. What are they going to do to me?”
I clenched my fists tighter. "What do you gain from all of this? Huh? He'll use you, he'll sleep with you, but he's going to get married to me. And you, you're going to remain a mistress, is that what you want, Elena?”
I could see my words hit a nerve, as her face contorted into a deep, ugly frown. “Don't be so sure about that, Raven?"
I glared at her. "I trusted you, Elena. And this is what I get? You knew I was coming over, I told you. Did you do this on purpose?”
She shrugged, like we weren't talking about her betrayal. "Well, maybe?" She chuckled wickedly. “I really don't blame you. And you shouldn't blame yourself either. Although, you were always the intelligent one between us, you never really had a sharp brain to understand what was going on.” She shrugged again. "If you're looking for who to blame, maybe you can blame your mother for that.”
Did she just insult my mother?
"You bitch!” I growled,my hands flying in the air to hit her again.
However, I barely touched a hair on her skin when a loud cry echoed in the room.
What the… ? Was she suddenly scared of me now?
I soon understood why she acted that way.
I felt the aura first, and then came the roaring voice. “Raven, how dare you?"
Elena, you cunning demon!
I turned to Luca, hoping to explain myself, but the next minute, his palm landed heavily on my cheeks and I fell to the ground.
He slapped me! This son of a bitch just slapped me!
“I warned you to stay away from her, didn't I?" He gripped my hand so firmly, it was like he was crushing my bones, and he pulled me back up to my feet. “How dare you touch her?" He growled angrily.
My anger was nothing compared to his. He has Alpha genes in him, I'm just a lowlife wolf from a generation with no royalty. I couldn't dare stand up to him.
I fumbled for an explanation. “Luca, I didn't…”
His grip tightened. "Call me Wolf Prince. And are you calling my girl a liar?”
My girl?
Elena kept whimpering behind him. “She slapped me. Twice, Alpha. She even threatened to kill me."
What the hell? When did this girl turn into such a liar?
“Luca, she's lying…” I tried again.
His eyes began to glow red, and I knew his wolf was close to the surface. "What did I tell you to call me?”
I shrinked, hoping to melt out of his arms, but I didn't. "Wolf Prince, I'm sorry.”
"Elena, go into my room. Now!” He commanded.
“Yes Alpha." She whined, shooting me a triumphant smirk before slipping away.
Do I want to wrap my arms around her pretty neck and strangle the life out of her right now? Yes, yes I do!
Luca's voice brought me back to reality. “I can hear your thoughts."
Oh shit!
He pulled me closer to himself, but not in a good way. His eyes were threatening to squeeze the life out of me, and I just wanted to scream.
“Now, listen to me, Raven. I am your Alpha…”
You're not an Alpha yet!
He gripped my hand even tighter, I heard a bone crack. "You're hurting me! Please let me go.” I begged.
But he didn't stop. “Only when you listen to me. I will hurt you a hundred times more than this if you touch a single hair on Elena's skin one more time."
I tried to hold back the remark, by biting my lips, but it eventually came out. “Are you in love with her now? Or is she just using you and you're following like a chained dog?"
Oh Raven, you're so dead!
“You still have the audacity to talk back at me? Have you lost your mind?" He thundered.
The pain was so much at that point that I just wanted to pass out.
Yet, I didn't stop talking. “You cheated on me, broke my heart to a thousand pieces, and what's worse is that you expect me to not be hurt. I'm supposed to just smile and say, ‘Whatever the Alpha pleases’. You're so heartless, Luca. You'll make a terrible Alpha. I can't believe I was in love with you.”
A loud growl, and then his fist was coming down on me again. I screamed, shielding my face with my elbows.
However, the hit never came.
A voice I recognized anywhere interrupted. "What's going on here?”
I'VE NEVER BEEN SO HAPPY to see someone as I was to see to my father at that moment.Luca released me immediately, taking a reasonable step back."Wolf Prince,” Father acknowledged, with a slight bow.Luca nodded. "Head Chief," he greeted in return.Father held my hand, and I quickly went behind him. “Is there trouble somewhere, Wolf Prince?"Luca glared at me, the warning evident in his eyes. “Teach your daughter to stay in her place." And with that, he stormed out of the room.I was finally able to breathe, a lone tear escaping my eyes as the pain soared through my bones.Father turned to me. “Raven, what did you do?"He is not going ask if I'm okay?I sniffed, looking everywhere but at him. "Father, I can't continue with this marriage.” I sobbed. His face twisted into a frown. "What are you saying? Have you lost your mind?"What sort of reaction was I expecting?“Father, you're not going to ask me why?" I questioned. He shook his head rapidly. “No! Whatever your reason is, I don't
WAS I DREAMING?I swallowed hard, my throat dry as I took in the man before me. The Alpha of Red's pack. Luca's father! Even with the flashing lights dancing across his face, there was no mistaking him. The strong jawline, the sharp glint in his eyes, the way his presence commanded attention without him even trying.I couldn't breathe. My eyes roamed carelessly over him. He looked much more handsome from a closer view, almost impossible to believe he had a son as grown as Luca. But I couldn't let him know who I was. Not tonight. Not like this. How would I explain myself if he did? Your son cheated on me, so I'm here to do the same by losing my priceless virginity to a stranger? Hell, no! I forced a coy smile, tilting my head just slightly, pretending to be just another girl at the bar. Someone he’d never met before. "You scared my company away," I purred, my voice lower than usual, hoping the makeup and the change in my hair were enough to throw him off.His dark gaze ran over me
MY HEART HAMMERED painfully in my chest as I sat up, careful not to wake him. What have you done, Raven? What have you done? were the only words that rang over and over again in my head. The events of the night before played on a loop in my mind—the heat of his touch, the way he made me feel seen, the way I gave him every broken piece of me without a second thought. It felt unbelievably good, but it's the most reckless decision I've made in my entire life. And I sure as hell regret this already. My hands trembled as I slipped out of bed, quietly gathering my clothes. Every brush of fabric against my skin felt heavier than it should—like the weight of my own shame pressing down on me.He shifted slightly in his sleep, a soft sigh escaping his lips, and for a moment, I just stood there, watching him. He looked so calm, like he had no troubles in the world. I just wanted to return to his arms. It would be so easy to crawl back into bed, to pretend none of this mattered. But it did.I
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN ONE'S HEART STOPS? Do they die? Or do they just remain frozen in place, like I was now.I watched his face twist into a confused look, his eyes holding the same expression. “You… I know you.” He said.At that point, I prayed desperately that the ground would open up and swallow me, or even better, I'd just disappear into the thin air. What do I do? Run?I cleared my throat, looking away from him. It's better to explain myself at this point. “Alpha… I…” He cut me short. "I… recognize you. You're Luca’s mate, am I correct?" I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. I was overthinking it all, he doesn't recognize me.I nodded rapidly. "Yes! Yes, Alpha" The Alpha’s eyes narrowed slightly, his gaze sweeping over me in a way that made my skin prickle. There was no malice in his expression, but something else — curiosity, like a puzzle piece that didn’t quite fit, and it bothered him more than it should.“And yet…” he murmured, almost to himself. “There’s something
CHAPTER 8NUMB.I stood frozen, my own reflection staring back at me, wild-eyed and panicked. The knock at the door sent a jolt through my chest. My pulse thundered in my ears, drowning out rational thought. This is it. He knows. He’s come for answers.Another knock. My breath caught in my throat as I forced my feet to move, my hand trembling as I reached for the handle. The door creaked open—and I almost collapsed in relief. It was just a maid. Her expression was carefully neutral, her hands folded in front of her apron. “Miss Raven, I was sent by your father to check if you needed anything.”I let out a sharp breath, my heart still racing. “Oh… no. No, I’m fine.”The maid’s brow furrowed slightly. “Are you sure? You look
CHAPTER 9MY BREATH SEIZED.Was it because the man in front of me looked incredibly hot and it made me breathless? Or was it because he wasn't supposed to be here? Or rather, simply because I was guilty of deceiving him and I was simply dealing with my consciousness.I swallowed, looking away instantly. Break the hex!I hadn't seen the Alpha since 3 days ago in the woods. He had returned from his self-taken vacation but it still felt like he hadn't. No announcements was given, only those who had seen him knew he had returned. He seemed to like his isolation. But what is he doing here now?The Alpha filled the doorway like a shadow, his presence sucking the air from the room. My breath caught in my throat, my hands clutching the windowsill.“Can I come in?" I heard him say.
CHAPTER 10PAUSE!Yes, the world paused at that moment. I couldn’t breathe, not with Julian standing so close, his hand still wrapped around my waist like it belonged there. His words echoed in my head, over and over, refusing to fade.“I know who you are, Raven.” he repeated, “Or should I say Anna."My heart stumbled into a wild rhythm, my hands gripping his forearm to steady myself—or maybe to ground me before I floated into the mess of emotions he stirred inside me.I opened my mouth, but nothing came out. It took a second attempt before my voice, trembling and thin, pushed past my lips. “Please… please, you can't tell anyone.”His brow lifted, but he didn’t let me go. “My Raven, you really thought you could hide me, huh?"I swallowed. "Please let me go!”
CHAPTER 11MY SAVIOR.He stood in the doorway, shoulders squared, eyes burning with something fierce and undeniable. The silence in the hall was suffocating, no one daring to breathe. Not even me. But I was more breathless from seeing him again.“Stop the ceremony,” He repeated “This wedding is put on hold.”Gasps rippled through the crowd, Luca’s face twisting into disbelief and fury. “Father, what the fuck are you doing?”Julian didn’t answer his son. His eyes locked on mine—and in that moment, everything else fell away.He was here. For me.Even though I had no idea what came next, a soaring feeling of bliss came over my chest.Father stepped forward, at the same time I stepped away from Luca. He shot m
CHAPTER 51RAVEN'S POVMATE!The moment Julian’s wolf roared “Mate,” I felt my world tilt. Exhaustion, pain, and the weight of everything I had endured crashed over me like a wave. My body gave out, my knees buckling as darkness threatened to consume me. But before I hit the ground, strong arms caught me. Julian’s scent enveloped me, familiar yet intensified by the bond now surging between us.For the first time, it was real—unfiltered, unbroken.Tears welled in my eyes as I forced myself to look up at him. His hands trembled as they held me, his eyes wild with emotion. “You finally feel it?” I whispered, my voice barely more than a breath. Before he could answer, my vision blurred, and the world faded to black.I woke to the scent of herbs and candle smoke. The soft rustling of fabric and hushed whispers surrounded me. Blinking against the dim light, I recognized the healer’s chambers. My body ached, but it was a distant pain—numbed by something far stronger. The moment my eyes flut
CHAPTER 50JULIAN'S POVHELL—The days without Raven felt like hell. The days that passes without seeing her smile, hearing her voice, and just feeling that undeniable presence of hers that kept me grounded—were unbearable.I had always prided himself on being strong, composed, a leader who stood unshaken in the face of adversity. But now? I felt hollow. Empty. And I couldn't even hide it. I wasn't willing to try.It had been four days since Raven left for the woods, and each passing hour gnawed at my sanity. I had tried to convince myself she would return, that she had promised me, but that promise felt like a whisper in a storm. I couldn't eat, couldn't sleep. Every time I closed my eyes, all I saw was her walking away, disappearing into the trees, vanishing like a ghost. What if she never came back? The thought was a dagger to my chest, twisting deeper each time I imagined a world without her. I had already failed once—failed ny wife, failed Luca, failed as a leader. I couldn't a
CHAPTER 49READY OR NOT?These words repeated in my head over and over again as I got ready to leave the next morning. Lucian and Atena were at the borders to see me off.Atena reached out for my hand, her eyes holding a gaze I couldn't quite explain. “Let the moon goddess guide you and Julian. It might seem tough, but the path shall become clearer." My heart melted. “Thank you. For everything." I said, genuinely meaning it.She nodded at me.Lucian gave me a small nod. “Well, tell your mate I said he's one lucky champ." He said with a small smile.I couldn't help a smile of mine. “I will." “Stay safe, okay? I hope to see you again." He added. “I wish you didn't have to leave actually." He said, his voice reduced to a whisper.I laughed lightly, but said nothing. I couldn't wait to return, I had missed Julian a lot.“Alright. I'll see you soon." I said. They bid me goodbye, and I finally set out to leave. The woods stretched before me, endless and thick, but I felt no hesitation. I
CHAPTER 48HAUNTED.The darkness surrounded me like a suffocating shroud, pressing in on all sides. A chilling wind howled through the trees, whispering words I couldn’t understand. I turned in every direction, searching for something—someone—but all I saw were twisted shadows stretching toward me, clawing at my skin with unseen hands.A figure stood in the distance, barely visible through the thick mist. Their voice was like an echo in my mind, deep and resonant.“Your journey is not over yet.”The moment the words reached me, pain shot through my wrist, searing hot, as if something branded my skin. I gasped and clutched my arm, but the pain only intensified. The symbol burned bright blue against the darkness, pulsing in time with my heartbeat.I jolted awake with a sharp inhale, my body drenched in sweat. My chest rose and fell rapidly as my eyes darted around the dimly lit room. I was back in Atena’s home, lying on a soft bed. The scent of herbs and aged wood filled the air. My wri
CHAPTER 47A PROPHECY?With my heart in my hands, I asked, “What prophecy?" She held my gaze. "Written deep in those scrolls is an ancient saying which somehow metamorphosed into a prophecy to be fulfilled in our time. When I said nothing, she continued. “A prophecy that speaks of a forbidden bond—one that, when realized, will unlock the true potential of the werewolf race.”My breath caught in my throat. “A forbidden bond?”Atena nodded. “Two wolves, meant to be together, but forced apart by unnatural forces. Their unity would have changed everything… but someone feared that power.”My blood ran cold. “You’re saying this… has to do with Julian and me?”Atena nodded. “You and Julian were never meant to be ordinary. Your connection was forged by fate itself. But someone interfered.”A deep unease settled in my stomach. “Interfered how?”Atena closed the book. “There was one among your own people who feared the prophecy, who sought to prevent it from coming true. A spell was cast—dark
CHAPTER 46RAVEN'S POV DEEP INTO THE WOODS.The moment I stepped past the border of the forest, the air thickened, wrapping around me like unseen tendrils. The towering trees stretched endlessly into the dark, their branches twisting like skeletal fingers. The silence was unsettling—not the calm quiet of nature, but an eerie stillness, as if the forest itself was holding its breath.I exhaled, pressing forward, following the invisible pull that had led me here. It tugged at my soul, an unspoken command I didn’t understand but couldn’t ignore. The further I went, the more distant the outside world felt. The forest had its own rhythm, its own presence—watchful, ancient, alive. The sun dipped below the horizon, and the darkness thickened. Then I saw them.I was barely seconds into the forest, were they waiting for me?I turned immediately, my instincts rising. I could run back to the pack. Maybe asking to do this alone was a bad idea. I could really use Julian's help right now. However,
CHAPTER 45JULIAN'S POV FLASHBACKI leaned back in my chair, the dim lighting of the bar casting long shadows over my features. The woman in my lap trailed kisses along my jawline, her hands wandering with an eagerness I barely acknowledged. I had picked her out of the crowd without much thought, seeking nothing but a temporary escape from the ghosts that haunted me.But as her lips pressed against me, something inside me recoiled, like I was repulsed. The touch was wrong. It wasn’t what I wanted. It wasn’t who I wanted.I grabbed her wrists and pulled back, my expression darkening. "Get out."The woman blinked in confusion, her lips still parted from our unfinished kiss. "What? But I thought—""I said get out," I repeated, y voice laced with a growl. She rose to her feet, a disbelieved scoff escaping her lips. “I thought they were all rumors, turns out they were true after all." I shot her a glare, my eyes cold, but she didn't seem phased. A courageous one. "What does that mean?"
CHAPTER 44I KNEW WHAT I HAD TO DO.The words left my lips before I could second-guess them. Julian’s reaction was instant.“No,” he said sharply, shaking his head. “Absolutely not.”“Julian, listen to me—”“I don’t need to listen,” he snapped. “You’re not going into those woods alone.”I reached for his hand, pressing it against my wrist where the mark still burned. “It won’t stop,” I whispered. “You saw Dorian’s reaction. This isn’t just some random nightmare, Julian. It’s real.”His jaw clenched, his body taut with tension. He wanted to fight this. “More reason you shouldn't leave, Raven. Come on! All of the signs are there before you, and yet you want to walk right into the pit. That's reckless.”"Well, what else am I supposed to do?” I snapped, at the edge of losing control. He turned to me, his eyes softening. "We could just ignore this, act like none of it is happening. It'll stop eventually. If they realize they can't get to you, they'll give up.” I scoffed. "Easy for you to
CHAPTER 43THE TRUTH. I parted my lips to tell him the truth, but I was interrupted.A knock echoed in the room, and both of our attention was immediately captured. “Who's there?" Julian called.A voice returned an answer. “Alpha, there's a problem." The heavy urgency in his tone attested to his words.“Come in." Julian said, rising to his feet. The moment the scout burst into the room, his face pale and his breathing ragged, I knew our peace had been short-lived.Julian stiffened beside me, his muscles coiling with tension. "Speak," he commanded, his voice sharp as a blade."A rogue group, Alpha," the scout panted. "We noticed a rogue group. Near our borders. Their numbers are growing."My pulse quickened. The room went deadly silent.Julian exchanged a glance with me before turning back to the scout. "Reach out to the elders, arrange a council meeting. We meet now."Moments later, we were seated in the council chamber, the air thick with unease. Some of the elders believed these ro
