Lily POV
I was bursting with excitement as I watched the cars roll up. My brother is Alpha to the Golden Moon Pack, along with Kate who shares the title with him. For this reason, he always travels with warriors for protection. The Golden Moon Pack is among the second largest Packs in our region.
I can see my mom waving to me from the car and as soon as the car stops, she jumps out of the car running up the stairs. She takes me in her arms, “Oh my baby girl, I have missed you,” she murmurs with tears in her eyes. “I’ve missed you too, mom,” I reply hugging her tightly. “How are you feeling?” she asks through her tears. “Mom, we can discuss all that in a bit,” I say as I see my dad impatiently waiting to give me a hug.

Lily POV Walking into our room, I look around feeling like something was disturbed. There is a faint scent I don’t recognize lingering, but I realize it could have been one of the staff. I still didn’t know everyone well enough as yet. Trying to pinpoint the difference I shrug my shoulders and scoot into the bathroom to brush my teeth, put some fresh lip gloss on and get ready for lunch. Deciding I wanted to change into one of my dresses I go to my walk-in closet. I walk in and get the dress I was looking for and turn to undress when I see my gown for tomorrow night’s Luna ceremony shredded. Without thinking I scream, scream at the loss of the beautiful dress but more significantly at the fact that someone had m
Kate POV Seeing Lily in much better shape than I had seen her when she was still in the hospital was by far the best. I knew she was still experiencing headaches, but they were seemingly getting better. And she was still trying to piece things together about the attack on her. Standing there with tears in my eyes, we kept hugging each other. Even though I had seen her in the hospital after the attack, she wasn’t herself. Now I felt like I was seeing my Lily. “How are you feeling?” I ask stepping back and wiping the tears from my eyes as she wipes the tears from her eyes. “I am doing better,” she says but I can tell something is wrong. “What?” I ask. Jared steps forward taking Lily into his arms, “Lily needs to go get a new dress for tomorrow night,&
Lily POV Last night’s meal went perfectly. Everyone was together, telling stories of when Reid, Kate, and I were younger. Jared loved learning about my childhood from my family’s perspective. Needless to say, I was demanding as a child, and everyone teased that it had carried on throughout my life growing up and today. I smiled recognizing they were probably right. Jared had decided he would sleep elsewhere last night, so he didn’t see me this morning. Although we weren’t getting married some traditions carried over into our world. Not seeing each other before the Luna ceremony was one of my favoured traditions. It was a surprise when the Alpha finally did get to see his Luna. In this case Jared would indeed be surprised as the dress he had picked out had been destro
Lily POV Looking around the room at everyone, I shake my head. “Am I the only one not getting anything in this crowd?” I demand as I look at each woman shamefully. “It would appear so, dear,” my mom offers. “Mom! Not you as well!” I yell. “Dear, we are wolves after all and your father is a sexy man,” my mom starts when I cut her off. “Eww no way, just stop; that’s a visual I cannot erase,” I say. What was supposed to be quick showers turned into quickies all around. As each woman turned red in the face and then burst out laughing, I couldn’t help but join them. Truth was I was jealous that I hadn’t seen Jared at all so far today. I didn’t know if I could wait until tonight to see him. I missed being near him. We had grown so close over the past weeks, that it wa
Jared POV Complete chaos. The gunshot rang out across the foyer of the Pack house. We heard screams from the event hall. Screams from around us. The sounds piercing our skulls as wolves had sensitive hearing, we heard things louder than most. Looking around I see Kate and Colby disengaging Lily from the Alpha. I see Miranda on her knees with blood pouring out of both nostrils. Colby yelled for Alex to help him with the Alpha. Alex had silver cuffs on him and ran to help cuff the Alpha with Colby. Kate had Lily in her arms but immediately switched into a medical doctor. Something was wrong with Lily, but I couldn’t see what. As I started to run toward Lily, Miranda fell to the floor. She had blo
Jared POV We spent most of the night waiting for news on either Lily or Miranda. Alex and Colby came over to update us on the actions of the Alpha. He won’t release his name or purpose until he sees me. Well, he wouldn’t see me until I knew Lily was out of the woods. As we sat there all lost in our own thoughts Dr. Kent came around the corner looking for me. I stood immediately as did the others, but Kent asked me to join him privately. My heart sank. Did this mean we had lost Lily? I hadn’t felt it in our link but perhaps I wouldn’t yet where I hadn’t marked her. I was having a hard time breathing as Kent pulled me into his office. “Just tell me for fuck sake, Kent,” I said to him harshly. I couldn’t wait any longer an
Jared POV Lily had awoken early this morning. She was foggy on what had taken place the night before, but as I started to share with her what had happened, she recalled that she recognized the Alpha as having pushed her down the stairs. She remembered him commanding someone who saw him, not to tell anyone. Once she was out of the hospital, we would find the individual and ensure they were no longer under his direction. Wanting to get to the bottom of the deal with this Alpha, I asked Rick to join me along with Alex. I wanted to invite Kate and Colby, but I knew Kate still needed more time to rest. Colby had swept her out of the hospital and back to their room as soon as she was confident she could leave Miranda and Lily. Miranda still
Jared POV I sat there in total shock. My parents had spent my birthright, basically bankrupted the Pack, and then entered an agreement that basically locked up my future before I even took over as Alpha. I had been Alpha for a few years now and we had made a healthy profit. However, to have to pay $2 million back would be a hit to our savings I didn’t know if we could take right away. We had spent a lot on renovations of our businesses and were in the process of another purchase. The legal documents had been signed and money was already on its way to the seller. “What?!?” I demand from my parents still reeling from the shock of what they had said. “I believe you heard me son. You need to accept Anya as your second chance mate. Then the debt will be resolved, and you will be able to continue gro
Jared POV It’s been four months since I woke up after the big fight. Things quickly got back to normal. Lily’s pregnancy progressed with many challenges and bed rest, which drove all of us crazy. She did not do well not being able to move. But she would do anything for the pup. I was holding our newborn Alpha while Lily slept. She had just delivered him. After a lengthy labour, it was decided we needed to do an emergency caesarian for the safety of both the pup and Lily. Doctor Kent didn’t know if Lily would be able to have any more pups, but we wouldn’t worry about that today. Today was a day to celebrate. Our pup was born, Alex Richard Montgomery. We both agreed we wanted to name our son after Alex. Not onl
Lily POV Three weeks we have been waiting for Jared to wake up. Three weeks of increased anxiety. My wolf, Missy, has not been able to reach Jared’s wolf. We haven’t had any encouraging movements from him. No hints that he is waking. The tubes have been removed from his throat, so he is breathing on his own now. He simply isn’t waking up. Rick has taken over running the Pack. We had to lay Alex and the other warriors to rest. We couldn’t wait any longer for Jared to wake up. We hadn’t wanted to tell him of our losses but we had to so he would know we were going forward with the traditional services for our lost. Not that we knew if he heard us or understood. Elder Morris conducted the services for us.&n
Lily POV Pregnant. I am pregnant. “How is this possible, Doctor Kent?” I ask confused. I knew it was a remote possibility. I had prayed to the Moon Goddess for this moment, but I had expected to be able to share it with Jared. “I admit, Luna, it’s a shock to me. A pleasant shock, mind you,” Doctor Kent replies. Nodding I’m confused and scared. “Did my shifting do any damage to the pup?” I ask the doctor. “No, it seems your wolf protected the pup. It’s still early days of your pregnancy, but you are most definitely pregnant, Lily,” the doctor says gently. “I want to caution you Lily. This is a high-risk pregnancy, Lily. You need to take care of yourself. Eat properly, don’t neglect your health as we wait for the Alpha to come out of his coma. You need to be pr
Rick POV Standing back, I put my hands on top of my head. This has been a long ass night and getting rid of the dead will take more time. Looking at my warriors, I can see they are exhausted, but I am grateful to every one of them for standing with Miranda, her mother and me. As I look at Elder Morris’s body I am saddened to see Miranda’s mother draped over his body. We knew there would be casualties in this war, but you are never prepared for the losses. Pulling Miranda into my arms again, I murmur to her we need to go. I need to check on Jared, Alex, and Lily. “You go ahead, Rick, I am going to stay with my mother and then I will be along,” Miranda says. Kissing the top of her head, “I’m proud of you baby,” I say to her before I shift to take off back to the Pack hospital.
Miranda POV “Elder Morris?” I ask. I’m confused. This gentle man cannot be behind the attacks on the Black Shadow Pack. He just couldn’t be. He smiles as he comes to stand before me. “Aren’t you going to ask me, Miranda?” he says. “Ask you what?” I ask him cautiously. “If I’m your daddy dearest, of course,” he says. This is not the same man we have all known as Elder Morris. He’s speaking too coldly for anything else to make sense. “Elder Morris, you aren’t my father,” I reply cautiously. “Of course, I’m not your father Miranda. I am your father’s ally in his attempts to get you back. Your mother took you from him many years ago. Do you even remember your father, Miranda?” Elder Morris asks. “No,” I answer confused. I could not wrap my head around how Elder Morris knows my father. “He was a good man a
Jared POV It had been a couple weeks since the Beta Female ceremony. Everyone had been walking on eggshells and tensions were running higher among the Pack. We were waiting for an enemy we couldn’t see or prepare for. We were as prepared as we could be. With the power that Melinda released on everyone, our warriors were stronger than they had been. They were fighting harder and were able to shift to their wolves faster. Everyone was in awe of Melinda and her power. She trained alongside everyone, sparring in both human and wolf form. You would think she had been a wolf her entire life, the way she fought. Rick was proud of his mate. We were all proud to have her as our Beta Female. Lily’s headaches had
Miranda POV The past three days had been a whirlwind. When Lily was set on a mission she delivered. As I sat there having my hair done, I was shocked to see Lily come in all ready and passing me a glass of champagne. She had a stunning dress on, as always. She was wearing a black gown, which fell to her ankles. The bottom of the gown had a slit up to the thigh of her right leg. The top of the dress had sleeves with a vee neck. The back had a tiny button closure at the top with an opening to her waist. She wore gold jewelry to accent the dress and stay in line with the Pack colors. She had brought me in a gift as well. As she passed it to me, my hands shook. I gasped as I opened it. Inside was a white gold necklace with a diamond at the centre of the necklace.
Miranda POV“My father?” I ask confused. I had never met my father. I never knew who he was. It wasn’t unusual in our world to not know who fathered us. As I had said, we weren’t close to our families. “How would he even know about me?” I asked my mother. “He’s always known, Miranda. He’s a powerful man, with many powers. I had no idea he would be tracking your progress,” she says sadly.“How could he track my progress?” I ask. “He has the gift of sight; he can see the future,” she replies. “What has he seen?” I ask desperately. “I have no idea, we only heard rumblings that he was coming out of hiding. He’s been hiding since your birth, putting his plans together for when the time was right,” she says sounding very upset.“Why is the Witch’s Council sending me on an assignment tomorrow?” I ask. “On assignment, what do you mean?” she asks. I explained I had placed a call to my contact who advised I needed to go in tomorrow and to expect to be away for a month. She gasped, “He’s
Rick POV The night Miranda had finished her first shift had exhausted her. When we returned to our clothes, I helped her get dressed and carried her back to our suite. She had already been asleep when I slid her into bed. She had more fun than she had expected and was looking forward to her next run. As soon as everyone learned she had shifted, we had agreed we needed to start training her for her protection. She was a quick study, catching onto the different defense moves. Today we were moving toward training her in offense. She had shifted into her wolf a couple times now. As I had promised her the first shift was the hardest and she was shifting faster and with less pain. Soon she would be able to shift in motion. &nbs
