Camilla’s POV
The fluorescent lights buzzed overhead, casting a harsh glow on the sterile white walls of the room. My body ached with every breath, and a dull pain throbbed on the side of my head. I tried to move, but a wave of dizziness washed over me, forcing me to lie back down.
"Camilla," a deep voice broke through the fog of my mind. I turned my head slowly, wincing as the movement sent another jolt of pain through my body. Seth, the new Beta of the Green Hill Pack, was sitting beside my bed, his eyes filled with concern.
"Beta?" My voice came out as a hoarse whisper, and I struggled to make sense of my surroundings. The last thing I remembered was cleaning the Alpha’s and Luna's house and getting attacked by a man in a hooded mask. I had been wounded, and then everything went black.
"You're safe now," Seth said, reaching out to gently take my hand. But then, he quickly dropped it like he was burnt, and my breath hitched. His touch was warm, and I felt a strange sense of comfort wash over me. "You've been here for a few hours."
I still couldn’t wrap my head around what was happening. I shook my head, licked my dry lips, and clenched my fingers around my dress. I couldn’t help but sneak a peek at him again, and my lips parted in a gasp as I finally realized what was happening.
“You’re—” Seth abruptly got up, cleared his throat, and turned his tense back to me. “You should rest,” he said, cutting off my words, and my heart sank.
He was going to reject me. My mate was going to reject me.
My hands shook, and I took in a deep breath and nodded. “Luna… Is she okay?” I questioned, and he looked at me over his shoulder and closed his eyes for a brief second.
His voice grew hard. “No. That is all I can tell you for now since this is a confidential matter.” And with those words said, he was gone.
———
When I woke again, the room was dim, and the pain had lessened to a dull ache. I was surprised to see Seth seated in the same spot I had seen him when I woke up the first time.
“Beta?” I called, and his eyes snapped to mine. His brown eyes raked over my figure before moving back to my face.
“How are you feeling?” he asked, and I nodded.
“I’m fine now… Are we going to ignore it?” I finally asked, and his body tensed up.
“We are mates,” he said, and a small smile spread on my lips.
“And you’re going to reject me,” I answered, and his brows furrowed together. He ran his palm over his face and sighed.
“No. I don’t plan on rejecting you, Camilla.”
My body tingled when he said my name, but I pushed it down to focus on what was happening. “You don’t want me,” I stated, and he groaned and took my hand in his.
We both gasped at the contact, but instead of pulling away this time, he tightened his hold on my arm and swiped his tongue across his lips. “I want you, Camilla. It’s—It’s just very complicated. I—” He sighed and ran his hand over his face. “I’m not rejecting you, but I just can’t do this now.”
Seth quickly scrambled out of the chair, and I jumped off the bed, my heart beating rapidly against my chest as I followed behind him.
“Ma’am! You can’t leave now!” a nurse said, her hand reaching for mine. I hissed at her and brushed her arm off. When I finally looked forward, I could no longer find my mate. He was gone.
—
When I got to the pack house, it seemed no one bothered to check on me. I scoffed at my own thought and dragged my heavy legs to the Omegas' hall. I was the invisible girl, the orphan that no one cared about or even bothered to.
I thought back to when I was eight, found abandoned at the pack's territory. My memory before that time was a blur, a void I could never fill. All I knew was that Ma’am Katherine, the kind woman who raised me in the pack house, took me in. She cared for me until I was sixteen. When she died, I tried my best to hide in the shadows, hoping to go unnoticed, to be the invisible girl.
“Hey! Camillaaa.” My body tensed at that voice. Scratch what I just said—I was no longer invisible. No, now I was Zoe’s friends' personal punching bag. Everything changed when I reported that a girl was being abused in the pack and had gone missing. The investigation traced the abuse to Zoe and her friend. Zoe tried escaping punishment but was killed by rogues. Ever since her death, the pack's hatred turned to me, as they believed it was my fault she was dead.
I slowly turned around to meet Mia, Jane, and Laura. Mia draped her arms around my shoulder, and they all began to lead me towards our rooms. I swallowed harshly as the door clicked shut and I was pushed forward.
“We didn’t see you this morning, and we were beginning to wonder what if you were eaten by the wild wolves,” Mia said, circling me and humming to herself.
“Or finally killed yourself,” Laura injected, and they all laughed. My head was tilted downwards and my fingers pressing into the skin of my palm.
“I was at the hospital,” I said, hoping they would leave me alone, but of course, all the things I wanted in this world never came true.
“No one cares, Camilla,” Mia said, stopping in front of me and tilting her head down to look into my eyes. She smirked when I turned my eyes to the other side.
“Such a good little puppy,” she mocked in a tiny voice, and Jane ruffled my hair harshly, and I winced at the pain that shot through my skull.
Now, I was beginning to regret not staying at the hospital.
“What? Does it hurt, Camilla?” Jane asked with fake concern in her voice and pressed even harder on the sore spot on my head. I pressed my fingers deeper into my skin to stop myself from showing any pain, or it would just get worse.
“What do you think we should do to her today, girls?” Mia asked, and a grin spread on their faces.
Laura twisted my hair between her fingers and then looked at each of her friends. “How about we shave off her hair today?”
My eyes snapped up, and without thinking, I dashed for the locked door, and my hands fumbled with the lock. A handful of my hair was yanked, and I turned to face them. Pain shot through my cheek as somebody smacked me, and without thinking—again, I balled my fingers into fists and punched.
I didn’t bother to look at who it was and finally pulled the door open. “You will pay for that! I swear it, Camilla! You will fucking pay.” A deep shudder ran through my body at the voice. It was Mia’s, and I knew she would follow through with her words.
Camilla’s POV:There was nowhere for me to go that would save me from the three’s wrath. That was what I told myself as I was standing outside my mate’s door.I took in a shaky breath and brought my balled hand up. Before I could think, I was already knocking on the Beta’s bedroom. Within seconds, the door was swung open and my mate, Seth, was standing in the doorway, shirtless and looking confused until his gaze finally settled on my face.“Camilla…” My name trailed off his lips, and I could feel my body growing hot. I wrapped my arms around myself and took a step back. What was I thinking coming here? Goddess, I knew he didn’t want me. He already made that clear a few hours ago. I took a shaky breath and turned my head to the side.“I’m sorry, I-I shouldn’t have come here,” I whispered and was about to turn away when his arms wrapped around my shoulders and he pulled me in.My whole body was on fire from his touch, and my lips were parted in a gasp. Seth closed the door behind us, a
Camilla’s POV:A small smile stretched across my cheek as I opened my eyes, but it immediately dropped when I realized that I was alone in the room. I sat up, the bedspread around my body pooling on my lap. “Seth?” I called, my eyes on the bathroom door, but there was no response.I pushed down the wrenched feeling that was beginning to form in my chest. Seth was probably out doing... well, Beta stuff.I quickly found my clothes, put them on, and made my way down the elevator to the lounging area in the pack house.I knew that the rest of the Omegas were already out doing their daily activities, so I snuck into the room that most of us shared and dashed for the bathroom. I released a deep sigh as soon as I was finished, and as I opened the door, my breath hitched. Standing outside the bathroom door were my worst nightmares, and they did not look happy.“Was wondering when you would finally crawl back in, you mutt,” Mia sneered, her cheeks slightly red from where I punched her last nig
**Camilla's POV**I couldn’t breathe.Every gasp of air felt like needles pricking my lungs. I didn’t care which direction I ran; I just wanted to get away from him—my mate.Fingers clasped around my arm, and I was spun around.“Camilla…” My eyes were closed, and I shook my head. No, I didn’t want him here; I didn’t want to see him.“Camilla!” he called again. I hissed, opening my eyes and jerking my hand back.“Leave me the fuck alone!” I tried to say with as much venom as I could muster, but it came out as a weak whisper instead. “Please,” I added, and even though it was summer, I felt cold—empty—and wrapped my arms around my shoulders.I was silent for a moment until—“I’m sorry,” Seth said, and I scoffed. I placed my hand on my forehead and paced back and forth while shaking my head.“Y-you’re sorry?” I laughed without any mirth, my body shaking from what I had just found out. “You have a wife and a child, and you’re telling me that you are sorry? Why didn’t you tell me?” I cried,
**Camilla’s POV**As soon as Tracey was distracted with something else, I parted my lips, ready to talk, but Seth beat me to it.“I have to go. Alpha’s calling,” he said. I quickly stood up.“Have they found Luna yet?” I asked. Seth pressed his lips into a thin line as I walked closer to him. “Please, I need to know,” I added, and he released a deep sigh.“I’m not sure yet. We just need to check out the abandoned buildings.”I puffed out a breath I hadn’t realized I was holding and sat down on the couch. “We will find her,” Seth whispered to me. At that moment, Tracey looked at us, and I pushed myself deeper into their couch.“I’m leaving,” Seth said to her. She frowned and placed her hands on his cheeks.“Come home safe,” she whispered, and I jerked my head to the ground as she placed her lips on his.Fuck. What was I doing here? Before I could think deeper, the sound of footsteps drawing closer made me snap my head back up. I flinched backward as Tracey stood close to me, and I sca
Camilla’s POV: I ran as fast as my legs would carry me with tears trailing down my cheeks. I couldn’t tell if Seth was following behind be but as soon as I was deep inside the woods, I fell to the ground and fisted the dirt underneath me. It felt like I couldn’t take in enough air and I brought my left fist to my chest and hit hard. “Breath!” I shouted, my voice echoing in the wind. “You did this, Camilla. You wanted this, you rejected him.” I said to myself but it did nothing to ease the buring in my heart. I didn’t know how long I sat in the forest but when I looked up, the sun was peaking behind the trees. The sound of twigs snapping make me snap my head to the side and I quickly scrambled to my feet. I pressed my palm into the tree next to me and turned my head around trying to find where the sound was from. The sound came again and I took in a deep sniff, trying to find whoever it was and that was when I realized that I was no longer within Packs territory. “Shit!” I cursed
**Camilla’s POV:**I tried to calm my nerves as I was led up a flight of stairs. As soon as I reached the last step, I was blinded by the bright lights outside of the underground cells. I tried to figure out where I was but was only surrounded by tall grasses. The guard pushed me forward, leading me down a path. It wasn’t long before a large building came into view, and I realized that we were behind their Packhouse.A chill ran up my spine as we rounded the building to the front. I could feel eyes on me, staring down with disgust, but that was the least of my concerns. I was scared of what lay beyond the door. The double doors were pushed open, and the man holding both of my wrists shoved me forward, making me stumble.“Move it, mutt!” the man growled behind me. I took a shaky breath. I climbed up another flight of stairs; up here, there wasn’t anyone. The man behind me let go of my hand, and I sighed in relief, rubbing the sore spot on my wrist. He knocked on the door, and a “come i
Seth’s POV:It has been three days since Camilla rejected me. I searched for her, trying to get her to change her mind, but it was like she vanished from the surface of the earth. I could no longer take it.I made my way downstairs to the Omegas' hall. It was still early in the morning, and I knew they would all still be in their rooms. "Everyone in hall B should be up and in straight lines," I said through the mind link before I reached their door.As soon as I was down, I didn’t waste any time as I pushed the door open. They truly were all on their feet, looking confused.“Good morning, Beta,” they all said, and I nodded, my eyes roaming the crowd.“I am looking for an Omega named Camilla. Has anyone seen her?” I asked, and murmurs began to flare up.I waited for about ten seconds before speaking up again. “She is about 5’5” in height with short brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone?” I asked, but it seemed like no one even knew of her.I saw a hand raised up and a head peek from the si
Seth’s POV:As soon as the gates to Alpha Zane’s home swung open and the car parked in front of the house, I quickly jumped out and made my way to the front door. My heart racing with each step that I took.I pressed the doorbell and within seconds, the door opened to reveal Luna Ava, her expression curious yet composed.“Good morning, Luna,” I greeted her, eyeing her swollen stomach for a moment before stepping inside as she made way for me. My eyes scanned the room, searching for Alpha Zane.“Seth, it’s good to see you. Zane is in his office,” she said with a gentle smile. I thanked her and quickly made my way up the stairs, not bothering to knock since Zane already knew I was here.Alpha Zane was seated behind his desk, and the moment his eyes landed on me, his brows pulled down into a deep frown. Alpha Zane and I weren’t close even though I have been working with him for a year now as his Beta. Ever since the last Beta betrayed him and almost killed his mate, he kept our relations
