As she raced, the cold night air stinging at her skin and her breath coming in loud, frightened gasps, she could hear her father's remarks, which were as deadly as the booze on his breath. "You're worthless, just like your mother." She gritted her teeth and ducked into the tight alley, the sound of footsteps behind her driving her onward.

"Please, let me find somewhere to hide," she muttered. As she slid around the bend and collided with a wall of muscle, her heart pounded. Before she could collapse, iron-clad hands clamped down on her arms.

She gasped and gazed up into the icy, calculating eyes of a stranger. "You shouldn't be here." His voice was low and powerful and lethal.

Sienna's breath froze, and she snatched her arm back, panicking. "Let me go!"

The man did not move. His black eyes gazed at her with an unbreakable demeanor. "Whom are you running from?"

"It's none of your business!" She struggled against his grip, but it was ineffective. He was solid and unmoving, and his strength was amazing.

"When it comes to my streets, everything is my business."

Her gaze expanded. "Your streets...?" Then she realized. The rumors. The whispers of the man who dominated the criminal underworld of the city. Vincenzo Falcone. Her blood turned to ice. "You are—"

"Vincenzo Falcone," he said, finishing, his gaze still on hers. “Answer me now. Whom are you running from?”

Sienna glanced down the alley, where her father's thugs were still after her. They were getting closer, and she could hear them shouting in the distance. Her words were, "It doesn't matter."

His hand became a little tighter. Sufficient to draw her gaze back to him. "I only ask once."

She blurted out, her voice trembling, "It’s my father. His men are trying to get me. If you do not let me leave, they will—.

"What will they do?" A faint, icy smile could be seen on his lips."Hurt me?" The more he spoke, the colder his tone became. "I'm not the one who should be worried," he added.

Sienna's heart shook. She knew the reputation of this man. In spite of the ruthlessness he was known for, she saw something else in his gaze that made her spine prickle with fear. The acute interest was as if he was debating what to do with her.

"You don't know them," she whispered in a quivering voice. "They'll kill me if I don't return."

He silently studied her for a long moment before speaking again. "So, why are you running?"

Her mouth became dry. "Because I would rather risk my life here than go with them."

Clearly fascinated, he raised an eyebrow. "And why should I give a damn?" Sienna hesitated, a stab of fear piercing her neck. “You shouldn’t.”

"So, Piccola, why are you still here?" He asked in low, a subtle threat cloaked in velvet. "Why haven't you run yet if you're so eager to get away?"

She swallowed hard as she looked into his eyes. "Because you won't let me."

A sly smirk twisted his lips. "Smart girl."

The sound of footsteps approached before she could finish speaking, causing her heart to lurch into her throat. The foot soldiers of her father. They are nearly upon her. "Please," she murmured, her gaze flitting to the alley's mouth. “I have to go."

Enzo released his grip on her arm, but he didn't back off. He kept his black eyes on her. “Go ahead; I won't stop them from taking you. Stay, and I'll take care of them myself.”

She let out a gasp. "Why would you help me?"

His gaze flickered down the alley, shadows growing closer. "Because cowards who prey on the weak bother me."

Sienna trembled, uncertain of her decision, but she knew what would happen if she went back. Her heart pounded in her chest as she inhaled deeply and stood still. Enzo mumbled, "That's what I thought."

In a matter of seconds, two of her father's men appeared; one of them stepped forward, pointing at her while growling. "Look there, you little—" They froze when they saw Enzo; their faces lit up with recognition.

The taller one stammered, his confidence faltering, "Mr. Falcone." "We didn't know that she was—"

"Leave." Despite Enzo's calm tone, there was a faint abrasiveness in his voice.

The two men exchanged glances, clearly uncertain. "We have orders," the shorter one said shakily. "Her father—"

"I don't care about your orders." Coldly, Enzo's voice drifted off. "Before I make you regret ever entering my streets, you have three seconds to turn around and vanish."

The taller man took a big breath and stepped back. "But—"

"Three." The men hesitated in obvious fear.

"Two." Without another word, they stumbled over themselves and fled into the darkness, leaving Sienna breathless.

He turned back to her, his face blank. "You're coming with me."

Sienna, still stunned by what had happened, blinked. "I-I can't."

"You will," he replied simply, in a tone that left no opportunity for discussion.

When she said, "Why?" her voice was hardly audible.

He stepped closer, his black eyes meeting hers. "Because I just saved your life, Piccola. Now I own it.”

Before Sienna could react, engines thundered down the lane. Several black SUVs raced to a stop at the entrance, doors clanging as armed men sprang out.

Her heart pounded, and her stomach twisted into knots. Enzo's expression shifted as his hand slipped absently inside his jacket, where she knew he carried a gun.

"Looks like your father isn't done," he muttered, a gloomy smirk playing at the corners of his lips. "This should be interesting."

As the SUVs' doors crashed and the men moved forward brandishing their weapons, the alley became more tense. Sienna's breath caught as her heart thumped in her chest. Enzo remained motionless, his hand still in his jacket, his fingers grazing his gun's handle. Like a king, he stood tall and calm, guarding his realm. From the crowd, a guy moved forward, his heavy footfall echoing off the walls of the alleyway. When Sienna saw the shadow, her blood froze. Her dad. He shouted, "Sienna," in a fake, worried-sounding tone. "Come here now."Sienna stopped. Her feet would not move, even though every instinct told her to run. Her father looked at Enzo and squinted his eyes in disdain. "Falcone," he hissed. "You have no business dealing with this." Enzo's lips curled into a sardonic grin. "De Luca, everything in this city is my business." Sienna's father, Alessandro De Luca, appeared to be a strong man in his own right. Despite his seeming strength, he was a corrupt politician who was invo

A dense, oppressive silence fell between them as Enzo's words took hold. Fear and anxiety were rushing through Sienna's mind as she stared at him. "Someone worse than you?" She said, her voice barely audible. Enzo stared at her, his black eyes unreadable. "Piccola, worse in all the areas that are important to you. You think I’m dangerous? You don’t know the half of it.” She shivered and folded her arms about her body. "Now what?" With a calculated and icy expression, Enzo put his phone back in his pocket. "Now, you come with me." Sienna pushed her shoulders into the harsh brick wall and took a step back. “Come with you? Where?”"Somewhere you'll be safe." Her pulse quickened. Safe? Was she really safe with him? He had approached her father as though nothing had happened, brushing off his threats as if they were empty words. Enzo wasn't a hero. He was a ruthless mafia boss who frequently dealt with violence and intimidation. Now she was caught in his web. She shook her head. "Why

The penthouse became strangely quiet as Luca left, and Sienna stood clumsily in the middle of the room. Enzo poured himself a drink carefully and methodically while she watched him. She could feel the strain bearing down on her. Luca's words left her stunned. A burden? She wanted to ask, but the words became stuck in her throat. That word struck a deep chord within her. For years, her own family had reminded her that she was nothing but a burden they were forced to bear. And now a complete stranger has concluded the same thing. When he saw that she was staring, Enzo arched an eyebrow. "You're not going to ask?" Sienna moved apprehensively. "Ask what?" After observing her and taking a leisurely sip of his drink, Enzo spoke the words, "Whether you're a burden." She swallowed, and her throat constricted. "Am I?"Enzo set his drink down and stepped forward, staring into her eyes. "That depends on you.”She gasped. "I didn't ask to be here." "But here you are nonetheless." He spoke in

I haven't even—”With a hard voice, Luca interrupted her. "It doesn't matter how. They're coming; that's the point. For her. For us.” Enzo turned away and paced for a while, obviously going over a hundred possible outcomes in his head. At last, he paused and turned to face Luca. "How long do we have?” Luca ran a hand through his hair and shrugged. “Maybe a few hours. Depending on their speed.” Sienna stepped forward and spoke in a halting voice. "What do they want with me? I am nobody.” Luca snorted and shook his head. "My love, you are no longer nobody. You’re leverage. A negotiating chip. You were used by your old man.” She felt sick to her stomach at the recollection. "So they're coming

She shifted closer to Enzo out of reflex and muttered, "Who is that?"When he heard her query, the man's grin got bigger. "Oh, don't worry, my love. The air was so tense it could be cut with a knife.Mateo smirked smugly as he moved forward, his pistol still holstered. "Enzo, I told you. You would eventually slip up.”Enzo did not react. While his other hand hovered close to his revolver, he continued to hold Sienna's hand securely. “Mateo, you are making a mistake. This will not go as you anticipate.”Mateo laughed and relaxed against the automobile. "Oh? How is that? You are surrounded, outnumbered, and outgunned. He’ll have to redirect resources to protect it.”Nico leaned back against the wall. “What about his alliances? If Mateo’s smart, he’ll have Diego shoring him up.”“Diego’s involvement is a wildcard.” Enzo gritted his teeth. “But Mateo is desperate—he won’t want to share power. That’s our advantage.”The door swung open, and Sienna entered, her expression unreadable. All conversation stopped as the men turned toward her.“And what’s my part in this plan?” Sienna asked mildly.“You’re staying out of it.” Enzo responded without hesitation.Sienna crossed her arms. “Like hell I am. Sienna’s heels echoed through the cavernous halls of her father’s estate. Her hands clenched into fists as she remembered her life in this house, waiting hand and foot on her stepmother and half siblings, enduring verbal and emotional abuse, her breath came hard and fast. Inside, her father sat behind his ornate desk, the glow of a single lamp casting sharp shadows across his face.“What game are you playing, Dad?” Sienna burst in, her voice sharp. Alessandro glanced up calmly, swirling his whiskey. “Sienna. Always so dramatic. Can’t a father enjoy a quiet evening without your drama?”“Don’t play coy with me.” Sienna advanced, her tone biting. “I know you’ve been meeting with Mateo Salazar. Were you involved in the attack against Enzo yesterday?”Alessandro leaned back in his chair, feigning surprise. “Mateo? Is that what this is about? You’ve spent too much time with Falcone, my dear. His paranoia seems to be rubbing off on you.”Sienna slammed her palms on the desk. “Don’t deflect

I’m not crawling to anyone.” Luca retorted, calmly sipping his drink.“Oh, is that so?” Mateo chuckled. “Then why are you here? Risking your life to meet me, no less?”Luca leaned forward, his tone sharp. “Because I’m tired. Tired of playing second fiddle to Enzo, tired of watching him throw everything away over a woman who doesn’t belong in our world.”Mateo raised an eyebrow. “Sienna.”Luca nodded. “She’s his weakness. And he’s blind to it. Marco saw it too, but he didn’t act fast enough. I won’t make the same mistake.”“Interesting.
