I stayed in my suite for the rest of the day. The thought of meeting his family had me nervous. It was too soon. It was quite understandable because the wedding was in just a month but I was still yet to recover from the shock of yesterday.
I stared at my phone longingly for a few seconds. I had followed Damien's advise and put it off. I only managed to get a text across to my father to assure him that I was fine. I saw messages from Nolan but I couldn't bring myself to reply at that point. I sighed at the thought of how I was going to handle all the questions that he would throw at me. The contract had me bound and I could not disclose the truth to anyone except it was authorized. This was a heavy burden on my shoulders, I never lied but now my whole life was becoming one.
I sat in a lotus position on the bed, staring out the window so deep in thought, I had shut my surroundings out.
"Ariana."
It was funny, I thought my mind was playing tricks with me and I had imagined my name being called out by Damien but he would not be here for any reason except it was almost time for us to leave. I checked the time and we still had about two hours.
"Ariana?"
I heard it again and I looked up to be sure I wasn't hallucinating and surprisingly, there he was, leaning on the doorframe, one hand in pocket and the other seemingly occupied by two shopping bags. He looked like a snack.
Now, where did that come from? My thoughts needed to be leashed. I shook my head to relieve myself of the many things that had filled it.
"Damien? How did you get in?" I asked the first thing that came to my now cleared out mind.
"Through the front door." He answered sarcastically. I scowled but decided not to pursue it further.
"What are you doing here?"
"I came to give this to you." He handed me the two shopping bags he held in one hand. I took them and eyed them cautiously.
"You'll be wearing that for the dinner. Get ready." He turned to leave.
"Uhmm, Damien," I called out softly. He halted in his quick strides and turned to me. I squirmed under his intense gaze and looked down.
"Can you please not bring any of those beauticians? I'll get ready myself." I stated. I looked up at him for a response.
He quirked an eyebrow in question but eventually gave a curt nod before leaving the room.
I held my breath in as soon as I opened the first shopping bag. It was a simple light peach silk dress. It had long sleeves and was a knee length dress, with a little bit of glitter around the waist. It was a much welcomed improvement cause the dress from last night was just too flashy.
I picked up the other bag and I was met with a pair of nude stilleto heels, they were really beautiful.
It was past 4pm, so I knew it was about time I started dressing up. I took a quick shower, brushed my hair, applied light make up and put on the dress. The dress suited me so well, it marveled me. Whoever picked it up sure had an eye for good things and knew exactly what they were doing.
I picked up my handbag and tucked my phone in it. It was still off but I just had to have it in case of anything.
I walked into the living room at about 5pm and my heart almost jumped out of my mouth when I realized I wasn't alone.
I had my palm on my chest the next second, exhaling heavily and almost in relief when I figured it was Damien sitting in front of the huge LCD TV in the living room.
"You scared me!" I exclaimed.
He turned in my direction, sized me up from head to toe before staring at his watch.
"Let's go."
He swiftly walked past me without as much as a second glance.
"What's his problem?" I muttered.
"You'll be my problem, if you don't move quickly." I heard him say and reflexively quickened my pace to match his quick strides.
Soon we were seated in one of his cars and on our way to the restaurant where his family was already waiting.
"Damien, your family, are they aware of this arrangement?" I asked the mind boggling question.
"No and I'd like for it to stay that way." He responded shortly after, barely looking in my direction.
"But what about when they start asking questions about us, what am I supposed to tell them?" I questioned with worry lacing my tone. His response had peaked my nervousness even more and from the looks of things he was really annoyed about something.
"I do the talking. Answer the questions that concern you and I'll answer those that concern both of us." He answered curtly and before I could protest even further, he shut his ears with airpods and left me in silence, pondering over my dilemma
No words of encouragement, no reassurance, nothing. He just left me on the edge, walking on eggshells and not knowing what to expect. I did not like this feeling, not one bit.
I stared out the window for the rest of the ride and completely ignored him when we arrived and alighted the vehicle. It was a restaurant, I had expected the dinner to be at his family house or something of that sort. Oh well...
I breathed in and out, trying to get my confidence in check. I could not flop especially not because of him. He tried reaching for my hand but I pulled away, looking straight ahead. From the corner of my eye, I watched him smirk. I did well to hide my confusion on whatever was amusing him but I did not keep it in mind. I had only spent three days with this man but I knew he was more puzzling than anyone I had ever met.
He suddenly put his palm on the small of my back and I really wanted to move away but for the fact that we had gotten to the large dinner table his family occupied.
My eyes scanned the faces of everyone present and I did not necessarily see any form of cockiness usually associated with wealthy families.
Looks could be deceiving so I decided to not draw up any conclusions yet.
Here goes nothing...
"Damien!" A sweet female voice exclaimed out of nowhere. She looked dazzling with blonde hair and bright blue eyes but she had a petite frame and looked really small compared to Damien. Her outfit looked so expensive and I somewhat felt intimidated, I couldn't compete with that. "Hey mum..." He said with a little bit of a smile. Wait, what? I stared at him, mouth agape. Maybe it's just a nickname. I tried assuring myself. "How are you baby?" She asked fondly, bringing him close so she could place a peck on his cheek. "I'm fine mum, how are you?" He replied, still holding her close. "Hey bro!" A young handsome, blonde, blue eyed guy who seemed like the male version of the woman in front of me, came close and shook hands with Damien who glared at him. "What did I do this time?" The blonde dude rolled his eyes. "You weren't at the site to supervise the workers even after I instructed you to." Damien gritted sternly with a hard gaze on the poor guy. "Damien... Now, now, this isn't
Damien's POV; I looked to my left and realized that she was asleep already and she looked so adorable while at it. She had the most adorable pout on her lips as she slept and snored softly. In as much I did not give a damn what my family thought about her, I was somewhat relieved that they welcomed her warmly. Tracy was cold, however. I knew my mother would be over the moon because she was worried that I would never get to settle down. She was of the belief that I was closed off because I had no special someone in my life. I almost rolled my eyes at that, she believed in love and all those mushy stuff way too much. I looked back at Ariana who was getting more comfortable on the chair, moaning softly as she adjusted. This woman is beautiful but I couldn't tell her that, I didn't want her getting any ideas. I was marrying her just for my business and to boost my reputation in the eyes of the world. We had to be the perfect couple but only for the world to see. I couldn't let mys
After my obvious and somewhat embarrassing staring session, Damien led me into the jet. The interiors almost knocked me off my feet. It was so magnificent, I could live in there for the rest of my life. "You can sit now." He said sardonically. That was when I noticed he was already seated with his laptop placed in front of him. I was perplexed. Why was he seating comfortably? I watched one of the air hostesses hoist a black suitcase that obviously wasn't mine into the luggage compartments. "You're coming with me?" I asked dumbly. "What does it look like?" He answered in a clipped tone. "Yeah, sorry." I mumbled, taken aback by his terse response. I sat quietly and buckled up for the ride. We soon took off, I watched him from the corner of my eye as he continued working on his laptop while the plane was in the air. I played games on my phone for a while before drifting off into a short sleep. When I woke up, I had nothing to say to him, neither hi
I got into the vehicle after much deliberation. The whole thing was calling my neighbors' attention, something I had been trying to avoid. "Hey mum! Isn't she that hot guy's fiancée?!" I heard a teenager yell at her unsuspecting mother before I got in. I watched through the tinted glasses as they stared at the car dreamily. Only if they knew... I stared out the window for a while before staring down at my feet. It was then it occurred to me that the driver did not ask for directions before moving the vehicle. The roads were familiar but I did not understand how and why he would just decide to drive me without asking for my permission. "Where are we going?" I asked finally after much contemplation. "The boss said to take you to your father's place ma'am." And how did he know I wanted to go there? Was this man spying on me? Or, was he some creep that knew my every move before I took them? I frowned in distaste. The thought of Damien always having a say in my life more than I did,
Damien's POV; I smirked as soon as I heard her grunt. I had tricked her again. But I had to admit, this woman was really stubborn. I knew she was expecting an apology for what I said the previous day but I honestly did not see anything wrong with what I said. It just was not befitting of my bride to be to live in such a place. "Damien!" I heard her scream. "Yes?" "We're going to have to compromise on my returning to Los Angeles and no, I do not care what you have to say about it but I cannot leave in one week." She stomped her feet with her arms folded across her chest. "Fine. What do you want?" I said, crossing my arms on my chest and leaned back on the chair, facing her squarely. I could tell my reply greatly surprised her and deflated her annoyance. "I'll leave in two weeks but I'll help plan the wedding from here." She said meekly. It was so cute. No, Damien! Stop calling her sweet things in your head. "Okay." I said in response, confusing her even more. "
****My phone was buzzing again. Messages from different people came in from different social platforms, some congratulatory and others shrouded in envy over the fact that I had snagged a rich and dashingly handsome man.All this was overwhelming because before a few days ago I did not know this man existed and now that I had gotten engaged to him, I realized he was well known but for what exactly? I still had not googled him to find out about it. It always skipped my mind.I scrolled through the blogs and found some hateful comments, I shut my eyes and grimaced after reading through a few of them.My phone was taken out of my hand the next minute. I stared at him weakly, I had no energy to argue with him, it was just too exhausting."I'll advise that you do not read through comments on anything out there. It's not good for you." He said gently but I was already so frustrated that his gentleness irked me. It ca
My phone rang late into the night, while I was fast asleep. I moaned and groaned before stretching my hand to pick it up from my night stand. It was about 10pm and I just slept about two hours before. The day had me stressed out, so sleeping early was my only option to forget everything. "Hello?" I mumbled sleepily into the phone. "Oh honey, did I wake you up?" A sweet voice said that sounded really familiar said into my ear. I furrowed my eyebrows and squinted at the brightness of the phone while I checked the caller ID. "Oh hi, Mrs Kingston." I said. "How are you dear?" "I'm well, thank you. How are you?" I yawned in between my statements. "Oh sweetie, I forgot about the time difference,I didn't mean to disturb your sleep. I'm so sorry." She apologized. "Oh no, it's fine. I'm sure you called for something important." I lowkey wanted to hear what she had to say so I would know if I had to travel soon. "Well dear, Damien came home without you and when I asked when you'd
"Ariana?" I heard my name called out faintly, like it was from a distance. My eyes blurred due to the excess light that came through so suddenly. I slowly opened them and was met with Stella's pretty face. "Seems like I'm always waking you up." She said with a tinge of embarrassment on her face. Is it okay to call my future mother in law cute? Cause she's absolutely adorable. I sheepishly smiled at the thought. "Hi," I said groggily just as my hair fell over my face when I sat up. She pushed it out of my way and sat next to me. "How are you sweetie?" "I'm well, how are you?" I answered. "I'm alright." "Your flight?" I asked. "It was just okay." I gave a small shrug. "I heard you came, so I came to check on you." She informed and I grinned. "Awww, that's sweet." She smiled. "Since we have so little time, I have to inform you that we'll be going shopping tomorrow." "Oh." I mouthed. "Where's Damien?" She asked, looking around like she expected him to be around here somewh
