Sally couldn't believe that those words had actually come out of her mouth. Sebastian wasn't running from her house. She knew she wasn't the ideal woman, but she was good in bed. She knew this.

She'd bet he was good in bed. She took another spoonful of her soup. Sebastian stared at her with his spoon halfway to his mouth. Maybe the thought appalled him. Maybe he'd lost his appetite and couldn't imagine having sex with her.

She was about to run from the room. From embarrassment. Had she really just propositioned this man that she'd only met hours before? Life was lonely out here. Too lonely. Clearly, she had to update her online dating profile and get back on that horse.

Sebastian put down his spoon. She could see him swallowing hard, his Adam's apple moving up and down. She'd shocked him and now she had no idea how to get out of this situation. She'd never had anyone turn her down, but she hadn't asked too many men to share her bed. Most men thought she was desperate because of her size. She wasn't. Some men liked more to hold onto. She'd thought Sebastian was one of them.

Guess she was wrong.

"You want me to spend the night and share your bed?" he said, his voice a little shaky.

"Staying the night isn't contingent upon staying in my bed," she said.

He leaned back in his chair, resting one foot on his other knee. He crossed his arms loosely over that wonderful chest. The one she wanted to fall asleep with her head on. "The staying in your bed is the most attractive part of this."

She let out a breath she hadn't known she'd been holding. He smiled, a laugh letting loose from him.

"We should finish dinner first."

"Yes. It's very good," he said.

"You really think so?" She hated that she sounded so insecure, but she was almost regretting her decision to invite him into her bed.

How banal to be talking about her food when she wanted him to take her on the kitchen table. She really shouldn't let herself go this long without sex, but there was something about Sebastian. She trusted him and she didn't trust easily.

"Yes, I do." He picked up his spoon again. He took another taste, but it was really a slurp. She couldn't help laughing. He didn't blush. "Sorry."

"No, it's fine."

She found it endearing. He didn't slurp for the rest of the bowl.

"You're waiting for me to make noise."

She laughed. "I am. It was funny. Really it was."

He laughed, too. She liked his laugh. Hearty, deep. Sexy. She wanted him to do her on the table. Right now. She'd bet those hands would expert, touching her. Bringing her pleasure. Was he staying the night? Would he stay the night in her bed? He hadn't agreed to it yet.

She couldn't clear the plates fast enough. He helped. When the last plate was in the dishwasher, he pushed her against the counter. He put his body against hers and she knew he was ready for tonight.

Their lips met in a storm, their tongues doing a tango in each other's mouths. She wanted skin to skin contact, so she jammed her hands under his shirt. She came upon the muscles she'd seen early. She wanted to lick this man head to toe.

"We need to take this upstairs," she said when he let go of her lips.

She took a breath as he scooped her up. She had her arms around his neck and her legs around his middle. His hands held up her butt.

She didn't want to be anywhere else as his erection nudged her.

***

Sebastian couldn't believe that he was carrying this hot woman up to her bedroom. She'd asked him to stay the night in her bed. This was like something out of a porno. She nibbled at his neck and made mewling sounds that made him hot.

"Which one?"

"Third floor."

He laughed a little, but he took her all the way up. Her room had a large bed with a flowery bedspread. He put her down, not really wanting to lose contact, but he wanted his clothing off. And hers, too.

His shirt came first and as he tugged it over his head she undid his pants.

"In a hurry?" he said.

"Yes. You see any reason to waste time?"

He looked down at her green eyes, sparkling and dark with passion. For him. Damn. He hadn't been laid in a while. He'd tired of those one night stands, but he hadn't been ready for a relationship.

But here she was. His mate. He knew it and didn't want to know it at the same time. He'd think about that in the morning. Or some other time. Right now, a beautiful blonde woman was taking his dick out of his pants.

What did he care about whether she was his mate or not? She was going to have sex with him and that's all that mattered.

Her tongue on the tip brought his attention back to her. "Honey, it's been a while for me. If you keep doing that I might explode in your mouth."

"Would that be bad?"

"I don't want our first encounter to be a blowjob. I want to please you."

She looked at him as if he were the first person who had ever said that to her. She took her mouth off of him but not her hand. As much as it pained him, he took her hand off of him.

"Let me undress you."

"Hurry."

"We have all night, Sally."

She stood as he shucked off his pants. He stood in his boxers, his erection peeking out at her. He took off her top and gasped at her breasts.

They sat in a purple bra that held them up high. Her nipples were just out of sight. How tantalizing. He always found scantily clad sexier than outright naked. Not that he didn't want to see her naked, but he was always slow to unwrap a present. He liked the anticipation as much as the reveal.

She looked up at him with a question in her eyes.

"You are so beautiful, Sally."She smiled. Sebastian would have thought he'd given her gold. Had no one ever told her that? Had someone told her she was ugly? That was a sin. He would have to make it up to her. At least for tonight. He wasn't ready to make any promises past now.She blushed a little and he wanted to make up for all those assholes that had come before him. They were idiots. He unhooked her bra, letting her nice rack loose. Rosy nipples stood at attention as if peering at him. He took one breast in each hand, licking his lips. "These are amazing."He knelt down to worship them.***Sebastian had said she was beautiful. Of course he liked her tits. Every man did. That wasn't surprising, but he'd stopped and told her that she was beautiful. Took away her breath. Almost made her want to cry. He hadn't just ripped off her clothes or expected a blowjob. He wanted to have sex with her. Please her. Damn. Maybe there was more to Sebastian than she realized. Maybe he wasn't lik

Sally woke up, wondering why she was sore. Had she worked that hard yesterday? Oh. Wait. Sebastian. She sat up, pulling the covers over her naked breasts. He was gone. She sighed. Part of her was happy. Part of her was disappointed. Then she heard a noise downstairs. Crap. Someone was in her house. She snagged her robe and wrapped it around her. Then she grabbed the bat from under the bed. Creeping down the steps, she tried to figure out where the person was. In the kitchen. Okay. Not the best place to steal anything. Her valuables, what little she had, were not in the kitchen. She tiptoed to the door.Sebastian. Wearing just jeans. No shirt. No shoes. Took her breath away. He was beyond sexy. He was also cooking breakfast from what she could smell. He stood looking out the back window. It was her favorite view also. He spun around. She felt silly with the bat in her hand. His gaze went to the bat then back to her face, a wry grin on his face. "I thought I had an intruder."That g

Sally tapped her foot on the porch as Sebastian came back up on it. She had her arms crossed. "What the hell was that?""What?" he looked at her wide-eyed. Innocent. As if he had no idea what he did."What were you saying to that man?""That he shouldn't call you a chick and that he shouldn't ogle you. I wish you didn't go out on the porch in just your robe.""Who the hell are you to tell me what to do? And if I want to be ogled I will be." She went up on tiptoes to get into his face. "By any man I want. You don't own me."He stepped back his hands up between them. "Whoa. I was defending your honor.""It isn't yours to defend. We slept together. You don't suddenly have domain over my body.""I wasn't assuming I did. I was being a gentleman. I don't think men should openly gawk at a woman. Especially not when she's on her own property."She eyed him. "I don't like when a man assumes he owns me.""I don't own you, Sally. I would never assume to do that. I just don't think it was right o

Someone knocked on the front door. Sally wasn't expecting anyone, but she opened it without looking. Big mistake."Hello, Sally," Colin Chambers, her abusive ex-husband, said.A chill went down Sally's spine. She knew this day might happen. She'd hoped it wouldn't. Her tracks had been covered, but clearly not well enough. He must've heard about her aunt willing her this property. She wished Sebastian was here. At least there'd be someone with her. Oh, Sebastian. Her heart roared in her chest, knowing that she had to stand up to him at least one more time. The restraining order clearly wasn't helping her.Sally tried to close the door, but Colin put his foot in the way. "Not happy to see me, Sally?""No. I'm not.""Well, that disappoints me."She had no idea how she was getting out of this. Her phone was charging in the kitchen, but she didn't want to run that way. Sebastian didn't like stepping away from a problem. He'd rather solve it, but he'd learned in the short time that he knew Sally, that she wasn't interested in his domineering ways. When the argument was important, when the situation warranted it, he would be the alpha male. He wasn't sure yet if this was one of those situations. He still wanted to know who that man was. Sally had clearly been frightened of him. Her white face told him so. He didn't want her to feel that way or think that she was alone in the world. If she realized she was his mate, she would have a whole den behind her. Mostly his brothers and himself, but there would be others in their far-flung family. She didn't need to be alone in the world. She didn't need to do it all herself. He went to work on the porch, taking his frustration out on the screws his was using to hold down the boards. He wanted to talk to him mother, but that wasn't possible. That escalated quickly. Sally had left Sebastian on the porch after lunch. He didn't even let her know that he was leaving. She happened to catch a glimpse of someone picking him up. He hadn't said goodbye and she regretted her words to him. Sally sighed as she leaned on the front door. She had an errand to do anyway. Grabbing her purse, she headed for the car. If Colin was back in her life, she needed to protect herself. Herself. This was up to her. She wouldn't rely on a man. Besides, if there were bears in the area, she might need a gun for them. The gun store sat in the middle of the block on Main Street. The town wasn't that big, but there were attractions all around it for those who liked the outdoors. Even in winter, which was what Sally had been counting on. Those people would fill her bed and breakfast. She opened the door and a blast of loud rock and roll hit her in the face. "Sorry." The man behind the counter turned down the music. "It helps me get into the mood to cle

Sebastian showed up for work on time the next day. Sally watched him park his truck. She wondered if she should tell him about what had happened last night. The sheriff had called her to let her know that Colin had checked out last night. In a hurry.Guess her nine millimeter had scared him. Then there'd been the bear. She'd wanted to shoot at it but didn't. She couldn't imagine why she didn't. There had been something about the bear. As if she knew that it wasn't a threat. It had growled at Colin but hadn't come near her.In fact, the bear had left as soon as Colin did. She'd stared at the woods for ten minutes after it left. She'd been scared, but maybe she hadn't needed to be. Why hadn't it gone after her?She couldn't puzzle it out. Not that she thought Sebastian would have an answer. She just needed to share her evening with someone. Someone who would be proud of her. Even if she'd sent him home last night, he would still be proud of her.She hoped. She hadn't cared about anyone

"Yes."Sebastian shuffled his feet on Sally's porch."That may be the sweetest bouquet anyone has ever given me. You picked them?"Her face hurt from the smile on it. What a sweet gesture. Better than anything store bought. She sniffed them, then motioned for him to come inside. He cleans up well. She'd already seen him naked, but with a blazer and a button down shirt he was almost better. His hair was back in a tie. A little neater than he'd been earlier. She wanted to tug it loose and run her hands through it. She knew it would be soft. "I did pick them."She tugged him into her house. "Let me put them in a vase."She took his hand, leading him to the kitchen. Her heart fluttered at his touch. She knew what those hands could do, but he'd said this was a date. He was going to take it slowly. That probably meant no sex. Maybe he had to learn to trust her before he could tell his secret. She couldn't blame him. She hadn't thought of this from his perspective. "You want a drink?"He l

Fiona had no idea what Wyatt was so concerned about. What could he possibly show her that would be a problem? Things had been going well. "You wait on the porch, but you can approach me when I'm done. I won't hurt you. It's still me."Okay. That was weird. She didn't know what to expect. She wanted to lean, pretend a casual posture, but she couldn't. Not with the uncertainty in his eyes. Wyatt had never done anything to scare her. Until now. "You ready?"She nodded. "Go ahead."She only had less than an hour before the kidnappers would call again. Impatience warred with curiosity. He turned to her while standing in the yard. At first she blinked her eyes as if she wasn't sure what she was seeing. A few minutes later, where Wyatt had stood, a bear now stood. She looked around the yard. Wyatt hadn't moved. She'd been watching the whole time. The bear went down on all four paws. Her brain told her to be afraid. She wasn't. This had to be Wyatt, but what had happened? The bear approac

"I'm not sure how I'm going to repay this.""We'll work it out.'"You shouldn't take this debt on. It's my problem. I'll figure it out."He wished she would stop. She would understand as soon as she realized they were fated to be together. "Fi, it's okay. Let's worry about getting your sister back.""I'm scared for her," Fiona said."I know."Wyatt kissed her hand. "They have no reason to hurt her.""I hope not."Colin came back with a smile on his face. Wyatt shifted off of Fiona, then came back to lie next to her. He nuzzled her neck, his hand resting on her stomach. "I wish we could stay here forever," he murmured."That would be glorious. Pretend that the world wasn't out there. That nothing was wrong.""We'll work it out, Fi. I promise.""How can you be so sure?" she said. He groaned. "I just am. Trust me. I know that's hard for you."He was right. She didn't trust easily. Too many important people had let her down in life. Including Wyatt. He seemed as if he wanted to make that up to her. She patted him. "We need to get to work.""Ever the practical one," Wyatt said.He kissed her cheek, then stood. He held out his hand, helping her up. He pulled her into his arms, his face against her neck. She couldn't imagine being anywhere else. She loved this man, and as much as that scared her, she knew he wouldn't break her heart. "Fine."Wyatt pushed him down. He wanted to let his bear loose to tear this man from limb to limb, but he couldn't do that on Main Street. He'd threatened his mate and that was not a forgivable offense. "Tell your boss," Wyatt said, then walked back to his truck. He didn't look back at the man. The message had been clear enough and Wyatt knew the man was a bully. He wouldn't attack Wyatt because he knew he'd lose. Wyatt climbed into his truck. He let his heart slow down. He wasn't one to beat up people, but he wouldn't back down from a fight. Not when he had to defend someone in his den. Especially when he had to defend his mate. When he was sure he was calm enough, he started the truck. He pulled up

We need to make a report to get the insurance money."But she knew who this had been and there would be no evidence left behind. He must've left her place last night and come here. He must have been following her to know where she'd been working. Fiona pulled her phone out of her pocket. She was going to have to fire her crew. They weren't going to be needed. She was giving the job to Wyatt. And getting out of town. No matter what he said, he couldn't protect her from this. She couldn't let this spill over onto him.She walked outside with Jeb who was calling the cops. Wyatt pulled up. He climbed out, concern on his face. Fiona knew that she didn't have a poker face. Wyatt wasn't going to budge on this condition. He wanted Fiona in his life. In his house. In his bed. That way he could prove to her that they belonged together. Prove that she was his mate, and if he did, he wouldn't have to live alone for the rest of his life. He'd protect her. Protect her sister. They were all part of his den. He'd die for them. That's the deal.So she could sleep with him. Fiona used a band on her arm and pulled her hair back into a ponytail. He preferred her hair down, but this meant she was getting down to work. "I guess I'll pack."He couldn't hide his grin. With Fiona, the victories were few and far between. He wouldn't gloat, but he'd enjoy it. "How can I help?"She looked around, then laughed. "You think I have trunks and trunks of clothing hidden somewhere?""I guess not."He settled on her desk chair to watch her. She scurried around in a haphazard way. Of course she would. That was Fiona. If there was an efficient way to do something, she would do the op

"I'm not leaving until you tell me."Sometimes with Fiona, you just had to dig in and wait. He'd stay all night and into tomorrow to figure this out. She was his mate. He owed her at least that much. Even if she never felt anything for him, he was going to protect her. She was part of him, part of his den. He couldn't walk out of here knowing she was in danger. Especially not knowing if that person could come back. Nope he was here for the duration. If she left, he'd follow. He wasn't letting her go that easily a second time. She sighed. He watched her climb the steps to her place. He waited until she unlocked the door, then turned on a light. He waited a few more minutes before driving off. Something wasn't right about this situation. Someone could've been waiting in her apartment. He should have checked first. Shit. He turned his truck around. Wyatt knew he wouldn't sleep until he was sure she was safe. That was his job. Even if she didn't know that she was his mate, he had to protect her. He'd failed when she left, but now she was back. "What are we supposed to talk about? Business is what we have in common.""How does it feel to be back here?" Wyatt said. Fiona hadn't really thought about it. Her only reason for coming back to was show Wyatt that she didn't need him. That she was as competent as an electrician as he was. She'd done that, sort of. "Uh, I guess okay.""It hasn't really changed much.""No, it hasn't."What a banal conversation. Was this how it was going to be for them for the rest of the job? This awkwardness?"How's your sister?""She's fine. In college and loving it.""You didn't want to go to college?"She'd had that dream at one point, but when her parents died, the desire had died with it. "I'm not cut out for sitting in a classroom."He nodded, then sipped his beer. "I can understand that. I'm not interested in theory. Tell me how something works for me. How can I use it in my job?""Exactly. You wire something, a light works. It's more rewarding," she said."Instant gratification.""Yeah, in a w
