Phoebe’s POV

I kept tapping my leg on the ground, feeling anxious and clearly upset. Mom was on the phone with someone, and I tried to wait patiently for her to finish her conversation while thinking about what to do.

“This is a really big mess, Phoebe,” my mother said, drawing my attention to her.

“What did he say, Mom? Is Uncle Philip going to help us?” I asked immediately.

Mom sighed and sat down beside me. “The issue is way more complicated than we thought. If what the media says is true and Mr. Andrew Walker is behind all this, then we don't really stand a chance. Walker Enterprises has a lot of connections in the country, and most companies are afraid of them. We might lose more than just clients.”

I stood up and angrily stomped my foot on the ground. “Why would Mr. Andrew do this to us? Does he forget we're Sheila's family? What kind of man in his right mind would make his wife's family go bankrupt?”

Mom went silent for a brief moment before speculating, “I think all this happe
