In that moment, Leah stirred.

She blinked faintly, as if about to speak.

But the next second, her eyes closed again, and she slumped unconscious.

Plunged into endless darkness.

Colin, holding her, dashed out of the apartment, racing downstairs.

Just as the fire brigade and ambulance arrived.

Seeing him in disarray, the firefighters were taken aback.

"Young man, you're too impulsive!"

Colin paid no attention, placing Leah beside the ambulance. "Doctor, check on her, quick!"

The medical team hurriedly attended to Leah, conducting a brief examination.

Turning back, the emergency doctor said, "Don't worry, she inhaled too much smoke, temporarily unconscious but not in critical condition."

Finishing, the doctor glanced at Colin's scalded hand. "However, your injury needs urgent attention."

"I'm fine," Colin's voice remained subdued.

Gazing at Leah's sleeping face, he finally relaxed.
