Chapter 31

Grayson was released from the hospital three days later. Evidence was found for the shooting so both Dedrick and Devon was put in jail. Since the shooting was intentional, Devon was tried as an adult. If only those two idiots knew that there was a camera from the café showing the alley because apparently, a lot of shady things happened there.

Things were different at school. Since Belle was my friend again, the whole school didn't hate me anymore. It was weird to say the least.

Word got around that Devon was involved in Grayson being shot and a lot of people were asking if he was okay. He hated the attention.

"How could you still get more points than me?!" I asked, staring dumbfounded at the TV screen.

"Talent," Grayson said with a smile. We were playing Call of Duty and were killing some zombies, yet Grayson scored way more points than me. His arm was in a sling, so he had to hold his control to the side, which was quite difficult in my opinion. "I told you I would score h

Chapter 1I sighed as I heard heels clicking down the hallway of the high school. Only a few girls wore heels together and I was hoping the one coming towards me didn't belong to Belle Jones. I was not in the mood to see her today, or any day really."Poppy," the familiar feminine voice said, the attitude giving away the person. The heels did in fact belong to Belle.I ignored her and continued looking through my locker, trying to find anything to distract me. I couldn't stay at my locker forever, but I knew never to walk away from Belle, no matter how annoying she was. Walking away always made things worse."You can't seriously ignore me," Belle said. "Or are you finding someone else to tattletale on?""That isn't what happened," I said through my clenched teeth, keeping my sight focused in my locker. I took a quick peek at my phone, happy that two minutes were left until lunch was over. Then, I could finally get away from her for the day."Sure it isn't," Belle said sarcastically. "

Chapter 2Mom wasn't happy when I told her I had detention yet again. I tried telling her that it wasn't my fault but he didn't want to hear it. And if I had one more detention, I'd be grounded for sure. To make things worse, Mom had yet another meeting at the time I was to get out of detention and Tony had a doctor's appointment, so neither were able to pick me up since it wasn't guaranteed that they would be home by the time I was out of detention. Dad should be home from his business trip, but he probably wanted to rest.I was at my locker at the end of the day, putting my textbook in there when Devon, Belle, Jace, Adam, Loni, and Lisa walked up to me."I can't believe you said that!" Belle said very loudly.I furrowed my eyebrows. "What are you talking about?" I asked."Yesterday, you said I should feel guilty about what happened," Belle said.I narrowed my eyes at Devon, knowing he told Belle about what I said in detention. I should had known that Devon would tell Belle."I didn'

Chapter 3Even though I went to bed early last night, I woke up with a throbbing headache. Mom wouldn't even let me stay home. She told me that missing a day of school because of a headache can result in serious consequences. In my opinion, she was overreacting. I could easily catch up after staying home one day. But she wouldn't listen to a single word I had to say. So, I had to suck it up and go to school. By the time it was lunch, my headache was a lot worse, especially since I sat behind Belle and her friends in my English class and they spent the whole period blabbing away. As I was putting my books in my locker, the six people decided to pester me again. I always dealt with it, hoping they would get bored and move on. That was never the case. "How was detention yesterday?" Devon asked. I didn't answer. I was not in the mood for them to pester me. Having a headache this bad would probably cause me to snap at them, which would make Belle's story about me 'ruining her l

Chapter 4 "Poppy?" Oh, I was in so much trouble. Tony just had to be in the exact same café I was in when I was supposed to be in school. Out of all the cafés in Florida... "Hey, Tony," I said nervously as he walked over to the table Grayson and I were sitting out. "What are you doing here?" "I could ask you the same thing," Tony said. "Aren't you supposed to be in school?" I sighed. "Yeah, but Mom wouldn't let me stay home when I have this awful headache and Belle was tormenting me again and I was just feeling really stressed." "So you decided to skip school?" Tony asked. "Sorry," I muttered. "Why are you apologizing?" Tony asked. "I skipped school a few times when I wasn't feeling well. Besides, I know how stressful Belle can be with the situation." I nodded, agreeing completely. Belle was a painful person to deal with ever since the incident happened. "You won't tell Mom or Dad, will you?" Tony shook his head. "I'll do you one more and call the school

Chapter 5 Apparently, my severe headache was because I was getting the flu. After Grayson dropped me off at home, I started feeling really sick just minutes afterwards. That stayed that way even the next morning. "Poppy, you need to get up!" Mom said as she stood by the door. I groaned dramatically, feeling really horrible. "Just leave me to die!" Mom sighed. "Poppy, you're not dying. You need to get to school." "But Mom!" I whined. "I don't feel good!" "You're perfectly able to go to school," Mom said. "If you don't get up now, you're going to be in serious trouble." I wished Dad never left for work yet because he definitely wouldn't have let me go to school when I was feeling like crap. I hadn't missed a single day of school before, besides yesterday when I skipped, because Mom believed that unless I was in the hospital, I should be in school if I ever wanted an education. I tried telling her that one day every now and then wouldn't affect my mark. Seeing as

Chapter 6 Mom must have cancelled her meeting with her clients because when Grayson dropped me off, her car was parked in the driveway. I was still feeling very sick and hearing her yell at me was not going to make it better. "Thanks for the ride," I said to Grayson as I got out of the car. "No problem," Grayson said. "I'll see you tomorrow, Flower." He drove off as I walked in my house, preparing myself for Mom's yelling. She was waiting for me at the front door. "I can't believe you skipped school, Poppy!" she said in a loud tone. "You need to be there every day if you want to be a doctor!" But I don't, I thought. "I'm sorry, Mom. I really wasn't feeling good. Even if I went, it would have felt like I wasn't there because I wouldn't have been able to concentrate." Mom shook her head. "I don't want to hear your excuse, Poppy. I am very disappointed that you skipped school, even more so since you were with Grayson. Didn't I tell you he's a troublemaker?" "All the

Chapter 7"What are you wearing?" Mom asked as I came down the stairs. I came home from school about an hour ago and immediately got changed into a very comfortable outfit; baggy sweats and a loose fitting t-shirt. My hair was in a messy bun.I looked down at my outfit with furrowed eyebrows. "Why? What's wrong with it?""You look like you just got out of bed," Mom told me. "Need I remind you that we are having guests over today?"I nodded. "Yes, I know. But I don't think they'll care what I wear. I mean, I am friends with one of them."Mom sighed. She was always so high maintenance, always wanting to have her family look their best. I didn't understand why we had to dress nicely for Grayson's family."Poppy," Mom began, but she got cut off when someone knocked on the front door. Good thing too, because I was not going to get changed.Mom opened the front door, welcoming them into our home yet again. Grayson entered the house before Graeme, thankfully, and walked over to me. Chapter 8 As soon as my Biology teacher, Mr. Franklin -who was also the vice principal- told us we'd be going to the biology lab, I knew we were going to dissect something. Fantastic. Grayson was in my biology class so I could actually pair up with someone to dissect whatever we were going to. Normally, I went by myself since everyone hated me and I didn't talk to Grayson then, and it was horrible. I had to do everything by myself and I nearly vomited a few times. While our class was walking to the biology lab, Grayson and I walked beside each other. "About what you said to me yesterday," I said. "Is it true?" Grayson sighed. "Yeah. I heard him talking to his friend on the phone about it before we got to your house. He said something along the lines of 'Grayson has a new friend. I'm going to try to get her parents approval.'" He sighed. "Sometimes I think he dates my friends just to bug me." "That's horrible," I said. "But there's a four year difference between me and G

Chapter 30Waiting for the news about Grayson is torture. Pure torture. The doctors wouldn't tell me anything about his wound, not even if it was fatal or not. They kept saying 'I don't care if your his girlfriend. We're mean and we're not telling you.' Okay, so maybe they didn't say that, but it felt like they did.Tony stayed with me the whole time, assuring me that everything was going to be fine. Even though he was my brother, I'd rather have a doctor tell me that Grayson was fine. I couldn't lose him.The police ended up coming to the hospital to inform me that Devon and Dedrick have been arrested and was going to be held for further investigation. I was so relieved to hear that. Finally, the doctor in charge of Grayson's condition walked over to me. "Would you like the bad news or good news first?" he asked me as I stood up from the waiting chair.Bad news? There was bad news? "Um, I'll have the good news first," I said. Please be okay, please be okay. The doctor smiled. "Grayso

I was getting a bit worried about him to be honest. I knew nothing bad could have happened but why wasn't he calling me?Mom and Dad returned home later in the afternoon. Belle was still at my house because we were catching up and going back to be best friends. I missed her being my best friend a lot and I was happy that we were able to both put the incident with Ben behind us."Poppy," Mom said, walking upstairs from the dining room. She was holding a cell phone in her hand. "Whose phone is this?"I grabbed it from her and looked at it. "Oh, that's why he wasn't calling!" I said to myself. I looked at my mom. "It's Grayson's phone. He must have left it here last night."Mom raised an eyebrow. "Grayson was here last night? I thought you only asked for Belle to sleepover.""It wasn't my fault," I said. Yeah, I know, it was a bit harsh but it was the truth."Grayson!" Mom exclaimed. "That was not appropriate!""Did anyone ever told you what happened the day you left?" I asked. The confused look in Mom's eyes told me that she didn't know. Of course not. Dad lied to the authorities. Nobody would have told Mom."It happened five years ago," Dad said. • Bad Boy's Protection   Chapter 27

Chapter 27While I was cooking breakfast for Belle and the lazy boy who was still sleeping, someone knocked on my front door. I was a bit confused since it was only nine in the morning and it was a Saturday. Who would come to my house this early? It couldn't have been my parents because they would have walked in instead of knock.I lowered the heat on the stove and walked to the front door. I looked through the peephole, relieved that it wasn't a mugger. At least she didn't look like a mugger. I opened the door and got a closer look at her. She had long blond hair and ocean blue eyes that reminded me of Grayson's. Then again, many things reminded me of Grayson."Hi," she said with a smile. "I'm Elliot Matlin. Is there a Grayson Prince here by any chance?"I nodded. "Yeah, I'll go get him. Just wait here." I closed the door before heading down to the basement. Grayson was still sleeping on the couch, so I shook him awake. "Grayson, someone is at the door to see you?"Though his eyes st

Chapter 26When Grayson dropped Belle and I off at my house, I was a bit curious to see what my parent's reaction would be when they see Belle. The last time she came to my house, or when my parents saw here, was before the first assault.Belle climbed out of Grayson's car and I got out afterwards.I was about to go to my house when Grayson said, "Poppy?" I turned towards him. "Any chance we can be together again?"I wanted to give him a sarcastic comment like, 'No, we never can even though I kissed you earlier and you told me that you love me.' However, I decided to kiss him on the cheek. "I'll see you later," I said before going to my house.Belle was waiting by the front door. "Quick question. Do you parents hate me for what Ben did?""No, of course not," I said as I opened the front door. "Mom?! Dad?! You won't mind if I have a friend spend the night, would you?!""Depends who," Mom said from the kitchen. She then walked in the living room, stopping when she saw Belle. "Belle. Lon

  • Bad Boy's Protection   Chapter 25

Chapter 25GraysonI was extremely confused when Poppy wasn't in the parking lot. I offered to drive her home and she told me she would wait in the parking lot. I didn't get it.Instead of wondering where she went, I texted her. I hoped she didn't get a ride from someone else. We were becoming so close again and I didn't want to lose it.After a minute or so, she messages me back. I read the message, mad at first that her dad picked her up, but then I reread the text. Something was up. She never used full sentences when she texted and she rarely capitalized the first letter. She was a lazy texter, so why was she taking her time with this?I reread it again and again until something popped out. The first letter of each word was capitalized, but the word 'I' wasn't. Then I looked at all the capitalized letters. H. E. L. P. M. E.…Help me. Crap! Poppy was in trouble! It must have been Dedrick! He knew Poppy was my weakness and now, he was getting my revenge. I needed to find out where th

Chapter 24For the past week, my parents were treating me like some vulnerable little girl that couldn't take care of herself. They wouldn't let me go out anywhere and one of them had to be home with me at all times. And that was exactly why I didn't want them knowing about what happened.Even though Grayson told my parents so I could have both of them there for me, I hated the way they were treating me. I even tried telling them a few times to leave it alone because Ben didn't actually do anything, but they refused. At school, Belle hadn't shown up at all. I was, honestly, a bit worried about her. She found out that Ben was lying the whole time and she threw away our friendship for no reason. I wanted to talk to her but I didn't know what to say. But I did miss having her as my best friend, even if she acted really horrible to me at school and made everyone hate me. I couldn't blame her. She was trusting her brother. The school day finally ended and it was now the weekend. I was plan

It kept replaying many of the evens that happened and how I was almost assaulted again.Like before, I stayed in my room almost all day. That was until Mom told me that Grayson's family was coming over for dinner yet again, including his mom and his sister. So instead of staying in my pajamas, I had to get changed. I still never told my parents or Tony what happened, and I didn't know if I was going to.Mom called me downstairs, telling me that the Princes were here. I slowly got out of bed and went downstairs. As soon as I was downstairs, Grayson pulled me in a sudden hug -I didn't hesitate to hug him back, though."How are you?" he asked in a low voice."Tired," I replied, my voice as low. "I can't sleep." I hugged Grayson even tighter, feeling more comfortable than I had ever felt. I needed the comfort. Grayson didn't seem to mind how tight I was hugging him considering he kept hugging me."Poppy
