Chapter 11

Grayson

After dropping Poppy at her house, I drove straight to mine. I was not in the mood to do anything after what happened. Poppy found out about what happened two years ago and I did not want her knowing quite yet.

Then there was what she told me. She was assaulted by Belle's brother and was blamed for it. I swear, if I ever see that Ben's face again, I was going to personally send him to the hospital.

"Grayson, there you are," Dad said when I walked inside. "Your sister called. She doesn't know your cell number and she wants to talk to you."

I nodded as I went upstairs to my room for some privacy. Honestly, I loved talking to my sister, Gale. She was twenty-two and was in university. She was always there to support me, especially since Dad always looked down at me.

I dialed Gale's number and held my cell phone up to my ear. "Hello?" she answered shortly after.

"Gale, hi," I said.

Gale squealed. "Grayson! I haven't talked to you in so long! So, how'

Chapter 12 I got to school the next day, only to be extremely confused. I thought it was just any regular day. Until I talked to Grayson. Actually, rephrase: Until I tried talking to Grayson. But he just walked away as if I didn't say anything. What if he didn't want to talk to me anymore because of my past? No, that couldn't be it. He promised Ben and Belle wouldn't hurt me anymore. There was no point of promising that if he wasn't going to talk to me. After school, I was putting my books away when Grayson went to his locker. Right beside mine. I decided to just give him space just in case he needed it. I had no idea why he wasn't talking to me, but I hoped it didn't last. It felt a bit weird, though. Whenever I was at my locker and Grayson went to his, he always said, "Hey, Flower." He didn't even do that. "Poppy," Belle snapped suddenly. I turned to her, once again not in the mood to talk. "How was finding out that your friend nearly killed my boyfriend?" She had a s

Chapter 13 One of the sports I hated the most had to be volleyball. Then again, I hate basically every single sport. But out of all of them, volleyball was definitely the worse, especially if Belle is in my gym class and was on the opposing team. I wasn't that skilled in volleyball. I could do the simple underhand serve and volley, but other than that, I was not good at all. When my gym teacher, Miss North, told us we were going to play volleyball, I silently groaned. Why did we have to play the sport I hated the most? When Miss North started dividing up the teams, I honestly hoped Belle would be on my team. As much as I hated her, it would be better to have her on my team as opposed to the opposing team. That didn't happen. On the bright side, Grayson was on my team. Well, if you considered your only friend ignoring you and is one your team a 'bright side'. But then it was ruined when one of Belle's friends, Loni, was put on my team. There were four teams and two di

Chapter 14Grayson "Grayson!" Dad called from the kitchen. "Your sister will be here soon!" I didn't reply as I continued slaughtering zombies in the video game. I had to get my anger out somehow because beating the crap out of Devon yesterday didn't do the trick. And quite frankly, killing graphical zombies wasn't making me feel any better as well. Shocker. "Grayson!" Dad called again. "Did you hear me?!" When I still didn't reply, Dad stormed into the gaming room and turned off the TV. "Hey!" I exclaimed. "I was in the middle of a game!" "You didn't reply," Dad said. "I didn't know that I had to," I told him, dropping my controller on the table beside the couch and crossing my arms. Dad sighed and shook his head. "Gale called and said she'll be here in less than ten minutes. Graeme and I are going to head out now to get a few things from the store. Don't make a mess." "Sure thing," I muttered as Dad left the room. Seeing how I lost the game since Dad turned i

Chapter 15On Monday, I was surprisingly excited for school. Since Spring Break was next week, the grade elevens and twelve's were heading to the beach all day for a field trip. Normally, I hated anything that had to do with school but since I didn't have to be near anyone, I was excited.I got to school and immediately had to go on one of the two buses. Luckily, I was one of the first few people to arrive so I sat in the back.Slowly, everyone else began to arrive. Grayson, being Grayson, showed up just as the bus was about to leave. I instantly looked away, not wanting to look at him. I was still mad that he randomly started ignoring me and didn't help me when I got knocked out in gym class. We finally began driving to the beach and I couldn't wait to get there. I really needed to relax and since it was Monday morning, it was even better. When we arrived at the beach, we all piled out of the buses and waited for instructions from Mrs. Goth. "I suppose you're all happy about being at

Chapter 16School the next day was, well, interesting. A fight almost broke out and Belle was acting way worse than she had ever been.Tony dropped me off at school that morning and I was not that happy. I mean, we went to the beach the day before and now, I had to be in school. Boring. When I walked into the school, Belle marched up to me. "I heard something very interesting," she said."That's nice," I said as I attempted to walk pass her. However, she took a step to the side to block me. "I wasn't finished," Belle snapped, crossing her arms."Well I didn't know that I had to stay to listen," I said. "Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to my locker."I walked passed her, but stopped when Belle said, "You think you can just do whatever you want to whoever you want, don't you?"I turned towards her. "What are you talking about?""I'm talking about Ben," Belle said. "You lied about what happened and got him thrown in jail.""How many times do I have to tell you that I didn't lie about

Chapter 17After school on Friday, my family and Grayson's family were going to have yet another family dinner, but this time, we were going to a fancy restaurant.Mom expected me to dress up. I didn't really want to, but I was too tired to object. So, Mom grabbed a simple black dress out of my closet and handed it to me."First impressions are important," Mom told me.I raised an eyebrow. "First impression? Mom, we've had dinner with them many times." Not to mention one of them is my boyfriend. My family didn't exactly know about Grayson and I. I did tell Tony but made him promise to not tell Mom and Dad. Dad would just be worried because of what happened with Ben and Mom didn't really like Grayson."Yes, but Gary's daughter will be there since she's on spring break," Mom said before leaving my bedroom. I wanted to ask her what that had to do with anything, but I decided to just leave it and get changed. After I was changed into the dress, I went down the stairs where the rest of my

Chapter 18Grayson"Grayson," Dad snapped as he marched into the living room. He snatched theTV remote out of my hand and turned off the TV. "You are not allowed to watch TV.""What, why?" I asked.Dad narrowed his eyes at me. "First, we are having very important guests come over soon. And secondly, you took off yesterday doing the family dinner. It was worse when we already ordered the food and nobody could eat it."I crossed my arms and leaned back. "So?""Grayson, you need to stop acting like this," Dad said. "Not everything can go your way."Tell me about it. Breaking up with Poppy was stupid to say the least, but I couldn't seem to get it to her how much harm Dedrick can do to a person. She already got hurt by Belle's stupid brother and I didn't want Poppy to go through that again. What Ben did, Dedrick has done many times, especially to the girlfriends of his enemies. I couldn't put Poppy through that."You honestly think I try getting my way?" I asked. "What about Graeme? He g

I muttered into my pillow. They didn't listen. Whoever was at my door walked into my room and sat on the edge of my bed. "Poppy, do you want to talk?" Mom asked me."No," I muttered. "I want to cry instead."Mom sighed. "Why did Grayson break up with you?""Why do you care?" I asked. "You hate him anyway.""That's not true Poppy," Mom said. "I didn't approve of him, but seeing you cry over him made me see that he means something to you and that's all I want. For you to be happy."That got me to sit up. I rubbed my eyes and Mom handed me a tissue. "Thanks," I said quietly."Now why don't you tell me what happened?" Mom asked.I wiped away my tears. "I don't even know what happened. Chapter 31Grayson was released from the hospital three days later. Evidence was found for the shooting so both Dedrick and Devon was put in jail. Since the shooting was intentional, Devon was tried as an adult. If only those two idiots knew that there was a camera from the café showing the alley because apparently, a lot of shady things happened there.Things were different at school. Since Belle was my friend again, the whole school didn't hate me anymore. It was weird to say the least.Word got around that Devon was involved in Grayson being shot and a lot of people were asking if he was okay. He hated the attention."How could you still get more points than me?!" I asked, staring dumbfounded at the TV screen."Talent," Grayson said with a smile. We were playing Call of Duty and were killing some zombies, yet Grayson scored way more points than me. His arm was in a sling, so he had to hold his control to the side, which was quite difficult in my opinion. "I told you I would score h

Chapter 30Waiting for the news about Grayson is torture. Pure torture. The doctors wouldn't tell me anything about his wound, not even if it was fatal or not. They kept saying 'I don't care if your his girlfriend. We're mean and we're not telling you.' Okay, so maybe they didn't say that, but it felt like they did.Tony stayed with me the whole time, assuring me that everything was going to be fine. Even though he was my brother, I'd rather have a doctor tell me that Grayson was fine. I couldn't lose him.The police ended up coming to the hospital to inform me that Devon and Dedrick have been arrested and was going to be held for further investigation. I was so relieved to hear that. Finally, the doctor in charge of Grayson's condition walked over to me. "Would you like the bad news or good news first?" he asked me as I stood up from the waiting chair.Bad news? There was bad news? "Um, I'll have the good news first," I said. Please be okay, please be okay. The doctor smiled. "Grayso

Chapter 29I was hoping Grayson would have called me to tell me how things went once he told his mom what his dad and brother almost did. He never did. I was getting a bit worried about him to be honest. I knew nothing bad could have happened but why wasn't he calling me?Mom and Dad returned home later in the afternoon. Belle was still at my house because we were catching up and going back to be best friends. I missed her being my best friend a lot and I was happy that we were able to both put the incident with Ben behind us."Poppy," Mom said, walking upstairs from the dining room. She was holding a cell phone in her hand. "Whose phone is this?"I grabbed it from her and looked at it. "Oh, that's why he wasn't calling!" I said to myself. I looked at my mom. "It's Grayson's phone. He must have left it here last night."Mom raised an eyebrow. "Grayson was here last night? I thought you only asked for Belle to sleepover.""It wasn't my fault," I said. Yeah, I know, it was a bit harsh but it was the truth."Grayson!" Mom exclaimed. "That was not appropriate!""Did anyone ever told you what happened the day you left?" I asked. The confused look in Mom's eyes told me that she didn't know. Of course not. Dad lied to the authorities. Nobody would have told Mom."It happened five years ago," Dad said. "You need to forgive and forget.""Excuse me?" I asked. "Forgive and forget? How the hell can I forget what happened?! How can I forgive you?!""Grayson," Mom said calm

Chapter 27While I was cooking breakfast for Belle and the lazy boy who was still sleeping, someone knocked on my front door. I was a bit confused since it was only nine in the morning and it was a Saturday. Who would come to my house this early? It couldn't have been my parents because they would have walked in instead of knock.I lowered the heat on the stove and walked to the front door. I looked through the peephole, relieved that it wasn't a mugger. At least she didn't look like a mugger. I opened the door and got a closer look at her. She had long blond hair and ocean blue eyes that reminded me of Grayson's. Then again, many things reminded me of Grayson."Hi," she said with a smile. "I'm Elliot Matlin. Is there a Grayson Prince here by any chance?"I nodded. "Yeah, I'll go get him. Just wait here." I closed the door before heading down to the basement. Grayson was still sleeping on the couch, so I shook him awake. "Grayson, someone is at the door to see you?"Though his eyes st

The last time she came to my house, or when my parents saw here, was before the first assault.Belle climbed out of Grayson's car and I got out afterwards.I was about to go to my house when Grayson said, "Poppy?" I turned towards him. "Any chance we can be together again?"I wanted to give him a sarcastic comment like, 'No, we never can even though I kissed you earlier and you told me that you love me.' However, I decided to kiss him on the cheek. "I'll see you later," I said before going to my house.Belle was waiting by the front door. "Quick question. Do you parents hate me for what Ben did?""No, of course not," I said as I opened the front door. "Mom?! Dad?! You won't mind if I have a friend spend the night, would you?!""Depends who," Mom said from the kitchen. She then walked in the living room, stopping when she saw Belle. "Belle. Lon

Chapter 25GraysonI was extremely confused when Poppy wasn't in the parking lot. I offered to drive her home and she told me she would wait in the parking lot. I didn't get it.Instead of wondering where she went, I texted her. I hoped she didn't get a ride from someone else. We were becoming so close again and I didn't want to lose it.After a minute or so, she messages me back. I read the message, mad at first that her dad picked her up, but then I reread the text. Something was up. She never used full sentences when she texted and she rarely capitalized the first letter. She was a lazy texter, so why was she taking her time with this?I reread it again and again until something popped out. The first letter of each word was capitalized, but the word 'I' wasn't. Then I looked at all the capitalized letters. H. E. L. P. M. E.…Help me. Crap! Poppy was in trouble! It must have been Dedrick! He knew Poppy was my weakness and now, he was getting my revenge. Chapter 24For the past week, my parents were treating me like some vulnerable little girl that couldn't take care of herself. They wouldn't let me go out anywhere and one of them had to be home with me at all times. And that was exactly why I didn't want them knowing about what happened.Even though Grayson told my parents so I could have both of them there for me, I hated the way they were treating me. I even tried telling them a few times to leave it alone because Ben didn't actually do anything, but they refused. At school, Belle hadn't shown up at all. I was, honestly, a bit worried about her. She found out that Ben was lying the whole time and she threw away our friendship for no reason. I wanted to talk to her but I didn't know what to say. But I did miss having her as my best friend, even if she acted really horrible to me at school and made everyone hate me. I couldn't blame her. She was trusting her brother. The school day finally ended and it was now the weekend. I was plan

That was until Mom told me that Grayson's family was coming over for dinner yet again, including his mom and his sister. So instead of staying in my pajamas, I had to get changed. I still never told my parents or Tony what happened, and I didn't know if I was going to.Mom called me downstairs, telling me that the Princes were here. I slowly got out of bed and went downstairs. As soon as I was downstairs, Grayson pulled me in a sudden hug -I didn't hesitate to hug him back, though."How are you?" he asked in a low voice."Tired," I replied, my voice as low. "I can't sleep." I hugged Grayson even tighter, feeling more comfortable than I had ever felt. I needed the comfort. Grayson didn't seem to mind how tight I was hugging him considering he kept hugging me."Poppy
