The rest of our coworkers arrived at the lake house after eleven, ready for a relaxing day on the water. I was impressed with the turnout of employees, surprised to see families of other coworkers I didn’t know existed. It was basically a company outing, and Gary inviting both Mindy and I to stay the whole weekend made me feel special. At the same time, I’d worry that our coworkers would find out and think we received different treatment. 

Having working friendships could appear as favoritism, creating a slippery slope that I’d feared from the beginning. Maybe Mack had a point about avoiding work outings with your employer and employees.
