Rayna's POV.

I guess I hit a nerve when I said those words because the silence afterward was almost deafening. I could feel it; it had been long coming. However, deciding not to say a thing about it didn't mean that I didn't know what was going on, or what he was up to. I just wanted to give him a little more time to clean up his mess before I would act. However, he must have taken me for a fool because of my silence. Not just him, but every other person who's worked with him or better still, who helped him in some way would feel the heat.

“What are you trying to say?” he asked, his formerly calm face was disturbed by a hard tightening of his jaw. “Why would you think that I channelled the money to a different purpose.”

“I don't know, you tell me.” I said, looking him straight in the eyes. “Besides, it was an innocent question. All you have to do is give me an answer. Did you do so or not?”

After staring at me with a cold gaze for a while, he suddenly let out a bark of laughter as if he'd lost his mind. On the other hand, I crinkled my face in confusion as I exchanged puzzled glances with Sera and then returned my attention to him almost immediately.

“Do you have another issue aside from your deteriorating eyesight?” I asked, with a tinge of curiosity in my voice. “If you do, then I would kindly request that you visit the hospital immediately to get checked.”

“There will be no need for that.” he said, his voice suddenly as hard as steel. “I have no other health challenge. However, I didn't take that money. But, if you do have some evidence against me, then be my guest.”

Assessing him based on the words he said, I could only help but wonder how I employed someone like him in the first place. Of course, he came in with the innocent look on his face. You know, the kind of look that meant he couldn't hurt a fly. Besides, he seemed responsible and did quite a lot in his early days as a starter. However, I guess that was all a facade. Having gotten to this point, he'd begun to show his true colors. Well, I don't blame him. And I have no problem with him showing his true colors. However, if it doesn't match the company's color, then he would have to use the door.

“So, what you're trying to say now is that you have no idea how a million dollar disappeared, is that it?” I asked, narrowing my gaze at the words.

“In a nutshell? Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying.” he said, as a cynical smile pushed his lips to the side. “Can I have my seat now?”

I could have said no to his request but then, I didn't want to stretch the issue anymore and cause further chaos between the members. Besides, what I'd on him was less than an evidence. If I needed to rope him, then I had to get something more than that.

“Of course, you can.” I said, forcing a smile through my lips. “Have your seat, please.”

“Thank you, ma'am.” he said, settling on his chair.

“I guess that will be all for today.” I said, tilting my head to both sides as I glanced at every one of them with a smile. “In that case, the meeting is dismissed.”

As if waiting for me to say the words for a long time, immediately I did, the members picked up the documents on the desk in front of them and then made for the door in groups of two's. While others slurped what was left of their coffee before proceeding to exit the room.

Before long, everyone was out excluding Sebastian who remained on his chair as if he wanted to have a personal discussion with me which I didn't think so. However, even if that were to be the case, he was the last person I would choose to give my attention to. He could only do this much, but not for much longer.

Righting himself from the chair, he pulled at his collar, took a few steps away from where he sat as he approached me. When he got to where I was seated, he dropped his gaze to me as a cynical smile pushed his lips to the side as if trying to say ‘you will have to do better’ then he walked past me and then exited the room. In situations like that, what would follow next would have been a pat on the shoulder, but he wouldn't dare to do that.

“Are we just going to allow him to have things go his way, ma'am?” Sera asked, her voice laced with concern. “I don't like him; he is getting way ahead of himself.”

“Well, there's nothing much we can do now.” I said, turning to face her with a smile. “However, he would walk into my perfectly set trap soon enough.”

“What do you mean by that, ma'am?” she asked, with a tinge of curiosity in her voice. “Do you have something in mind?”

“It is only a matter of time before his eyesight gets better, or don't you think?” I asked, pushing the chair back as a rather dangerous smile pushed my lips to the side. “Come on, there are other things to do.”

Exiting the boardroom, I ambled towards the hallway, took a right turn, proceeded with a few steps before I arrived at the elevator. Lifting a hand, I pushed a button and immediately, the doors swung open. Together, we stepped in, but this time, Sera pushed the button and then the door closed.

“I need a favor from you.” I said, pushing a button on the keypad to the side. “And I need answers at best before tonight.”

“Alright ma'am, what is it?” she asked, with a raised brow.

“I need you to gather information on Zane Winehall and the company.” I said, with a meaningful look in my eyes.

“Do you suspect him?” she asked, her brows taking a quizzical dip.

“I just have this unsettling feeling and I want to be sure that I'm doing the right thing.” I said, with a subtle nod of my head. “Also, that girl from earlier, remind me her name again.”

“Are you talking about the girl on a topknot hairstyle?” she asked, narrowing her gaze at the words.

“Yes, that one. Can you bring her to me?”

You seem so promising.” I said, lowering the screen of my laptop and lifting my gaze to her with a smile on my lips as I leaned back on my chair. “You may sit, please.” I gestured with a hand towards the chair on the other side of the desk.“So, how can I be of help to you ma'am?” she asked, with an excited catch in her voice. “I will do my everything in my power to give you the best results.” Well, I have also heard that a good number of times but in the end, many of those who said so fell short of expectations. However, like I said earlier, she appeared rather promising and would do a good job for me. “I just need your help with something.” I said, leaning forward as I clasped my hands together on the desk. “Anything ma'am, just tell me.” she said, her eyes brightened at the words. “I will get it done as soon

Her only response was a resounding slap that has my neck snapping to the side. I cup my flaming cheeks. "You useless girl," she snarled, advancing at me, "How dare you talk back to me? It seems you're beginning to get too audacious." I staggered away from the wrath blazing in her eyes. "What's going on up there, darling?" Uncle Timothy's voice barked from below. I glanced over my shoulder to see my silver haired uncle standing in the middle the living room and glaring up at me. "She refused to do the cleaning," mother smirked at me. "Th-that's not true," I rushed to say, "I've cleaned the house already." "What about the garage at the back? Did you clean it?" She raised one brow at me. I gaped at her. Since when did cleaning the garage become one of my duties too? As if it wasn't enough that I had to clean this endless m

Chapter twoRayna"what's that pathetic orphan doing here?" I heard someone sneer. "Ewww, what is she wearing?" "They shouldn't keep on letting her in here." "Can't she make an effort to wash her uniform?" "Wash? Ugh, she needs to throw those rags away and buy new ones. She looks like something they dug up from the trash. Yuck." Keeping my head down, I ignored all their snide words as I walked past the rows of desks and settled in my lone desk at the very back of the class. " You're late!" Mr. Ivory barked at me, "If this continues to repeat itself, you'll have to face detention." My heart began to pound in my chest. Detention was the worst thing they could do to me because the one time I hadn't come home on time, my mother had locked me in my room with no food or water for three days. "I'm sorry, sir. It won't happen again." "I've heard that before," he rolled his eyes and turned back to the board, "Now, on the topic of differentiation_" I tried my best to listen but not on

Chapter three Rayna"Why are you dressed like a slut!" My fiance's cold voice lashed against my skin like a whip as I climbed into the back of his Cadillac at the end of the school day."Good afternoon, sir," I kept my eyes lowered and my tone mild. Jared Winehall, my forty six year old fiance was a man that was prone to extreme anger. He lashed out at the drop of a hat and I had been on the receiving end of the back of his hand countlessly. I had also tasted the bite of his whip against my back severally. I had had to learn fast to be as demure as possible if I didn't want a repeat experience. "I asked you a question!" He barked, eyes fixed on the hint of exposed thighs. I had been wearing the same uniform for about five years now and it had gotten shorter as I had aged. It was barely two inches above my knee now though. "I'm sorry, sir," I replied meekly, "I have outgrown the uniform." "I don't believe you, you lying whore," his hand lashed out and clamped around my neck. I l

Then he turned dark eyes at me, "For your neck," he explains, "We both know it was an accident, but I would hate for people to think a man like me is an abuser."I nodded, "Of course." The car pulled to a stop across a street which boasted designer stores and I heard the passenger door open. Jared's assistant Lilian stepped out of the car, wearing her usual pinched face expression as she crossed over to the Hermes store. I hated the assistant almost as much as I hated my fiance. She acted like her boss was the best thing to have ever happened to the human population and treated me like garbage. Fifteen minutes later, she was back with a box tucked under her arm. She opened the door and passed Jared the box before walking to the passenger side of the car. The fat man passed me the box, "Open it." With a feigned shy smile, I pulled open the

Chapter five Rayna/AyaSix years later "Welcome to New York," the automated voice announced from the airport speakers. I took one deep breath and smiled. Welcome indeed. Once upon a time this city had destroyed me, but now, I was going to use this city to destroy others. My phone began to buzz and I picked the call, pressing the device to my ear, "Yes?" "Ma'am," the soft voice of my assistant began, "Welcome to New York. I've sent the driver to pick you and he should be in a black Mercedes right outside. I couldn't join him because there was a problem with your new house and I had to be on site to handle it." "It's fine, Sera," I told her, "I don't need you shadowing me twenty four hours of the day. I'll see you when I get there." With that I hung up and made my way out of the airport building, my five inch Manolo Blahnik heels clicking against the tiled floor. Several heads turned as I walked by and I smiled, amused. My presence was always sure to cause a stir. With my waist

If anything, I'd figured out a million and one way to ruin his father. To help you understand better, I'd even rehearsed a few lines to make sure that the words flow effortlessly from my lips. However, seeing his son as supposed to him seems to break down all my defenses. Nonetheless, the children can always pay for the crimes of their father and even for generations to come. So, if he actually thought that sending his son down here would slow down his punishment, then I would allow him to be my guest. “Ahem,” he cleared his throat, pressing a fist to his lips. “We should get on with the meeting already. There's a lot to talk about and time is of the essence.”“Of course, it is.” I said, forcing a smile through my lips. “I want to believe that my assistant has briefed you on what we want.”

  • BOUND BY VENGEANCE    A Boardroom Meeting

Rayna's POV.The sound of shoes slapping against the tiled floor could be heard as I walked into the company's building and walked past the receptionist desk. The sound of ‘good morning’ greetings by employees from every corner, many of which were females on pantsuits wearing a healthy smile rippled through the silence that enveloped the environment.Rounding a corner, I took the spiral staircase which led to the boardroom as supposed to the elevator. All I wanted to do was get there on time. The elevator should do, right? Perhaps, I didn't just want to take it. Even after wasting so much time back at home, the driver wanted to waste more because only heaven knows where he suddenly disappeared to. If he hadn't returned on time, then maybe he would have lost his job, who knows? Climbing the spiral staircase, I gripped the rails as I continued to ascend with my head held up high. “We could have just taken the elevator ma'am.” Sera said, looking more exhausted than she sounded. “It woul

All you've to do is say the words.” “There will be no need for that, Sera. Not to worry, a little stomach ache won't kill me. At least, not yet.” I said, turning to face her with a smile. “Besides, this meeting is long overdue, and I don't want to keep pushing it further anymore. Also, Sebastian has been a thorn in my flesh lately; I need to put him in his place. And, I have to do it today.” “Alright. However, you'll still need to visit the hospital after you're done with the meeting, ma'am.” she said, handing me my satchel bag. “We don't have to overlook the situation. Prevention is better than cure.” “I know, dear.” I said, receiving the bag from her. “If it wasn't an important meeting, then I would have gone straight to the hospital. However, like I said, I

Rayna's POV.For a moment, I feel silent, rooted to the spot as I tried to wrap my head around Maggie's words. It felt as if my heart had literally stopped beating. Tilting my head to both sides as if trying to weigh my options, while actually trying to understand how she could have made such a mistake, I narrowed my gaze.“I don't think I understand what you just said, can you explain better please?” I asked, as a look of confusion masked my face. “What do you mean by you used the wrong ingredient?” “I should have been more careful ma'am, but I was carried away.” she said, her eyes suddenly moist with tears. “As I returned to the kitchen to do the dishes, I realized that I'd used the wrong ingredient.” “You were carried away?” I asked, letting out a laughing scoff. “Then why are you still here? If you were carried away, why are you still here or did what carry you suddenly return you?” “I am so sorry ma'am.” she said, with an apologetic look in her eyes. “Don't tell me that!” I s

Rayna's POV.Tapping a foot as if counting down like a time bomb about to go off soon, I glanced at the wall clock. However, after what seemed like waiting for a lifetime, Maggie finally showed up in the dining with a food tray in her grip. “Do you realize that this is your first day on the job?” I asked, with a furrowed brow. “What took you so long?” “I am so sorry ma'am, but I had to begin the process again just like you asked me to.” she said, transferring the meal from the tray to the table. “And I do realize that it's my first day, but…” “You will do better, right?” I asked, cutting her off. “I have heard that over a million and one time already today so, it's not difficult to know that it would be your next words.” “I am so sorry ma'am.” she said, taking a step backward with head bowed and hands clasped in front of her. “Well, sorry won't make those improvements for you.” I said, bringing the meal closer to myself as I took off the lid used to cover it. “So, you'd better st

  • BOUND BY VENGEANCE    A Voice of Pain

Rayna's POV.Returning to the sitting room, I realized that I'd spent over thirty minutes talking to Maggie as I lifted my gaze to the wall clock by the side. I knew what that meant; my favorite TV show would have come to an end or might be about to. But, I'd to do what needed to be done. No one should be that careless. And to think that I'd barely stayed in my own house for two good hours and there was already a threat of burning it to the ground even made me more angry.Nonetheless, I ambled towards the sitting room with hopes that I would be lucky enough to see the show even if it was for a minute or two since I missed the last one due to a busy schedule. However, I also knew that the chances of getting a minute or two out of the show was as slim as the strand of hair caressing my forehead. Arriving at the sitting room, I settled on the couch and just as I thought, the show was over. On display on the TV screen were the cast and characters. “Not again.” I muttered the words under

Anyway, I would love for you to make me pasta.” “Alright ma'am, I'll get to work immediately.” she said, turning to leave. However, she'd barely taken a step from where she stood when I called back her attention.“One more thing,” I said, indicating with a raised finger. “Do not make it soggy.
