CHAPTER FOUR.
"Moon goddess, why do you choose to punish me this way?" Megan murmured to herself as she walked inside the empty classroom.Zain was inside working on his MacBook. Megan looked faintly amused, and dropped her shoulder bag. So Zain could afford to wear a decent suit after all?"Good morning, Sir." Megan studied him. As far as she could see, he was only an arrogant man full of pride, and probably struggling with finances.Zain looked up at Megan. There was something about her, a lot of things about her that didn't make sense to him. He just couldn't connect the dots. "How does it feel to qualify for the Olympics?""You still can't figure out how I did it?" Megan smiled. "One second you're talking down on me and the next second you sound impressed.""I'm impressed." Zain's voice was deceptively calm, but his eyes narrowed, and darted around the room. "Jordan.."Megan's heart skipped. What about Jordan again?Zain continued studying Megan's reaction. "She shouldn't be your competition, Dream Chasers ought to be your competition and rival, Dream Chasers and every other gymnasium except Ocean. Don't waste your time fighting unnecessary battles. Choose your battles wisely.""Why is no one answering the question?" Megan snapped."What question?""Why exactly is Jordan not on suspension?""The same reason why you got away with your rebellion in the past.""There wasn't a single time that I wasn't punished for the mistakes I made, and for my disobedience.""You call that punishment?" Zain closed his MacBook. "I went through your records thoroughly, the only punishment that would have been fair is your expulsion from the academy.""Why do I have the feeling that you do not like me?""Because I don't like you.""Unfortunately, you do not call the shots here. And your opinion doesn't matter."Jordan walked inside the classroom, looking at both of them. She wondered what discussion they were having, and prayed silently that Zain hadn't become Megan's 'stan.'Megan looked at Jordan briefly, then back at Zain. "Your absolute favourite student!" She grinned and held out her hands. "I hope she's keeping your bed warm."Zain tightened, his face darkened. He sputtered. "Mind your choice of words, else you will regret it."Megan shrugged. "Whatever!"She had come to pick an artwork of her performance last week. The academy had decided to honour her with very expensive artwork. After picking up the artwork she forgot in class earlier, she turned to leave. She stared at Jordan. Jordan avoided her gaze and looked away.Jordan however had a change of heart and ran towards the exit door, and blocked Megan's way. Megan frowned. "What do you want, Jordan?""Congratulations," Jordan managed to say."Is that coming genuinely from you?""Yes."Megan frowned again. "Damn you! You steal everything that's not nailed down."Okay, another sore spot. Megan sure had a lot on Jordan. "I know you, you can't deceive me."Jordan's face grew warm. "I, um, may I please know how I have deceived you or anyone?""Few days before the audition you saw me training, you stole my moves, modified them and sampled them during the audition without acknowledging me. You made everyone believe it was your originality and I copied." Megan sighed. "Just get out of my face, I don't have any business with you."Jordan's face grew red slightly, as if embarrassed."Stay away from me!" Megan said, then left the classroom.Jordan looked around the classroom. A thought ran into her head. Maybe it was time to try and bond with Zain. She walked up to him and greeted. "Good afternoon, Sir.""How can I help you?" Zain questioned without looking at her."I'm inviting you for lunch...""Stop it." Zain didn't let her finish. "Do I look like Maleek? What makes you think I will be interested in having lunch with you, or anyone in this place?""You don't need to be harsh, I was only trying to be nice and get to know you better, you recently started working here so...""Thank you for the kind gesture. Please leave."Jordan left the classroom quickly without looking back. She was too embarrassed.Zain scratched his hair in confusion. He felt helpless. First, they were disturbing from home. He was to find the special one before the next full moon and start working towards fulfilling their duty.He also needed to find his mate and get married. Fulfilling his duty would take a lot, and he wasn't assured of coming back alive.Marriage was important to him, he needed to produce his beta while he still had time. A beta that would be leading Atena pack while he remained here and tried to destiny. ***It was midnight and the rustling of scrubs and dry leaves could be heard across the entire woodland, as Atena wolves raced to their pack boundary. They had been notified about the rogues that had come to disturb the serenity of their pack. They howled, making long and loud cries of anger. It was like the sounds of wounded animals with blood spurting out from the gash.Taking the lead was Zain. It was a good thing he came to visit home, the last time his pack was attacked he was away. However, the special one with a duty to perform had come to fight for her people. He only hoped and prayed to the moon goddess she would come tonight, he needed to find her.Zain scooted as he kept a long distance from the shifters, indicating he was faster than them. Apart from his speed, he was also a wolf tracker.Getting to the border of their pack, they stopped at their track when they felt the presence of the rogues. Zain roared and the rest did the same thing since they couldn't catch sight of the rogues, only their scent."Stay put." Zain's mind linked her adherents and they all gathered, surrounding him while they walked gradually to the end of the border. "I can smell them, make a ring circle!" He commanded and they did as they were told. They made the ring circle, and Zain was left to meander around the circle, trying to get a stronger feel of the whiff he was sniffing.Just about time, a rogue jumped out from his hiding and the rest did the same. They came out in circles, surrounding the rest of the Atena shifters. The rogue made his first attack on Zain who was already fully prepared. The rogue nudged Zain's neck but he was fast enough to scuff his face with his claws. Not giving the rogue a chance to regain his stance, Zain clenched tightly on the rogue's fur and made a straight stance on his paws before dragging him harshly. After hours of fighting, Atena shifters killed majority of the rogues, and the remaining ones retreated. It was until the early hours of the morning that the war ended. One of the wolves in Atena pack was badly wounded. Atena wolves went back to their pack and gave treatment to their own. After the attack, Zain couldn't stay longer, he paid homage to the moon goddess, gave instructions, then left. He had serious business to seal in the human world. ***Zain drove inside the building slowly. He even pretended not to know where to park. When he finally did, Avara came down from the car, and he did too."I recently acquired this property from the government, you will enjoy this place," Zain bragged."Thanks," Avara said as she surveyed the area. "Nice doing business with you," she smiled."Since you will be shutting down the mall, what do you intend to do with the building?" Zain asked."Pleasure salon," Avara answered excitedly. "I intend turning here to a women's beauty salon. Please do invite your spouse to come here to get her hair done. And also for her nails, lashes, makeover, pedicure, manicure and massage. I'll give her a good discount."Zain nodded without saying a word.Within seconds, Megan came out of the mall with her two closest friends. Her smile disappeared when her eyes met Zain's.Avara turned red as Zain stared directly at Megan.Megan and her friends walked past them without uttering a word. Zain turned to look in their direction, with hints of shock in his eyes"Do you know them?" Avara questioned out of curiosity."They are my students!" Zain exclaimed. He pouted like a forgotten child and folded his arms."You must be a terrible teacher," Avara laughed."Nice doing business with you, Miss Avara," Zain said. "I'll be on my way now.""Come on, be a gentleman. Could you please give me a ride?" Avara smiled."Of course. After you."Zain dropped Avara off in her apartment. It was a small but fine place. He sped off the moment Avara came down from his car.Avara knocked on her door and walked to her window to whisper. "Charlotte, open the door."Charlotte's eyes jolted open. "Avara?" She called out."Yes. It's me. Open up."Charlotte reached for her phone and checked the time. It was exactly 2 pm. She stood up and rushed to the door to open it.Avara walked inside her living room, and sank into the sofa. Her hair was rumpled and her eyes were tired."Why? Why are you at home by this time of the day?" Charlotte questioned, closing the door."I sealed a good deal with Zain Adolphus today.""Congratulations, even though you don't look happy.""He's a fine man. I like him."Charlotte rolled her eyes. "How did you meet him?""I came across his real estate website on social media." Avara unbuttoned her shirt. "The mall is at a good site, it will fetch us good money.""Then why did he sell it?" Charlotte asked."Oh no, honey, he didn't sell it. He only rented it out to me. I wouldn't be able to afford it if he wanted to sell it," Avara explained. "He is wise. He would have regretted his decision if he sold it.""Have you quit at the factory?""I submitted my resignation letter last week. Yesterday was my last day there.""The list for the pleasure salon is ready." Charlotte handed Avara a small notebook."Charlotte!" Avara screamed after her eyes caught the total amount. "Thirty million? Where will I get that amount of money?""How much do you have?" Charlotte looked at Avara sternly. "Let's start from there.""I paid Zain Adolphus six million for a year's rent," Avara answered. "I am left with only eight million in my account.""You made me quit my job because of fourteen million?" Charlotte looked at Avara, fuming with anger. "So you had only fourteen million in your account and told me to quit my job to co-manage your so-called pleasure mall? What kind of salon will you set up with eight million?""A beauty salon..." Avara struggled to speak, "for women.""Dare me not." Charlotte was filled with rage."Don't!" Avara fired back. "Do you have eight million? I guess no, yet you stand here right in my face talking down on money I want to use and set up a business for us, with this ridiculous list of yours." Avara tossed the notebook on the floor."You told me you had enough millions in your account to open an exotic beauty shop.""Fourteen million is what, excuse you?" Avara stood to her feet. "You know what? You can leave my house now and go back to your billionaire job.""You are joking. You made me lose my live-in nanny job," Charlotte began. "You made me homeless! Next, you want to kick me out to the streets, you can't do that!""I can and I will.""I will sue you.""For what exactly?" Avara laughed at Charlotte's naivety. "There was no legal signing or agreement, honey. I can kick you out and get away with it.""Nice one," Charlotte calmly said. "It was nice meeting you."Avara stood looking at Charlotte, without saying a word or making a sound.CHAPTER FIVE.The sounds of the chains echoed through the passages as the werewolves' prisoners were pushed out to the backyard where the annual ceremony would take place. Each year, on the day before the full moon, a ceremony would take place where the werewolves captured were experimented on by Dr. Matt. His experiment usually last till the full moon was over. Dr. Matt sat patiently, watching as the soldiers pushed all the werewolves out. ***Mrs. Sparks and Caroline sat in Sparks' living room gossiping and giggling. Mrs. Sparks stole surreptitious glances around to convince herself that no one was around. "I have filed for divorce," She whispered. "I hope I'm doing the right thing." Caroline's smile broadened. "The best decision you will ever make in life. Have your kids read it to him?" "Not yet," Mrs. Sparks answered. "It'll come in today. I feel bad for them.""Don't. They'll be fine," Caroline assured. "Jordan's a strong girl." "And Tor
CHAPTER SIX."Megan!" Trainor and his wife called out loudly, as they downstairs. "Megan!" They searched all the corners of the house without finding her. "She left," Josie said as he walked into the living room chewing an apple. "You both look serious, why are you looking for her?" "We needed her to see the psychiatrist at the rehab centre," Mrs. Trainor said. "You still want her to go to rehab?" Josie's facial expression deepened in surprise and amusement. "Tell me it's a lie." "What do you know?" Mr. Trainor snapped. "I know Megan doesn't do drugs," Josie snapped. "She's clean." "Did she tell you where she was going to?" Trainor asked. "No," Jose replied. "I didn't bother asking. I guess she's at the gym training, she's always there." "Thank you." Trainor and his wife raced out to their car and drove out."There's something they are not telling me," Josie thought out loud. "And I'll find out myself. Could it be she is truly a werewolf? But, Megan is scared of dogs, so how
CHAPTER SEVEN. The room lights went off. Megan turned around terrified, a bit terrified. Picking the gym as her hideout was her worse mistake. What was she thinking? She reached for her phone and checked the time, it was midnight on the dot. It was time to transform, alongside a human. She screamed in pain as she transformed. She wailed so much that anyone within the gym premises could easily hear her.Zain turned around in the direction of the sound. It sounded like a wolf's wailing. He quickly transformed into his wolf form. Maybe this was destiny happening and the prophecy trying to come to pass. Before he could think further, Megan jumped out of the room, and met him. They stared at each other, trying to read each other's minds. ***The wolves in Matt's large garden were howling in jubilation, and it surprised Matt and his assistant. Never had they seen them rejoice this much. Suddenly they woke up from their nap and started howlin
CHAPTER EIGHT. It was 4am. Trainor kept driving around the city, with no particular direction in mind. He was on the lookout for Megan and her kind.He jolted in the middle of the road, and halted the car abruptly. He stared at the road, there she was standing in the middle of the road, looking all clean. Her hair was in place. She didn't look messed up at all. She looked pretty good and was glowing. Megan smiled, waving at Trainor. Trainor wiped his eyes to be sure he was seeing clearly. "Megan?" He spelt out. Megan walked to his car, and knocked on the door. Trainor came down from his car immediately, breathing heavily. "What have you done?" "Nothing," Megan replied. "I had fun. By the way, my car broke down in the middle of this road, I've been stuck here for thirty minutes. Good thing you're here."Trainor stood there looking at his daughter, weak and speechless. She looked so innocent and cute. He brushed off a tear from his cheek. He grew weak. He couldn't bear to bundle hi
CHAPTER NINE. After spending the afternoon on phone calls about advertising opportunities for Ocean Academy, and catching up with Dr. Matt, Trainor leaned back in his chair, exhausted. He raised his arms over his head and stretched backwards, feeling the pull on his cramped muscles. Drumming his fingers against the desk, he buried his mind in thoughts. Just then Megan barged into his office. "Listen, Dad, you can't do that," Megan said. "No, you can't." "Get out of my office." Trainor pointed towards the door. "I will not let you mistreat mom." Trainor reminded himself that he cared about his daughter and family, and certainly didn't want to hurt their feelings, but he needed some alone time. "Do you want me to make a flashy scene?" She asked him. "I didn't create myself, neither was I born with this curse, you let it happen. It is because of you that I am the way I am! I was the tool for revenge for everything you did to them. Why wouldn't you just let them be? Why were you
CHAPTER TEN."Ooh, the hell!" Megan screamed in pain. Her left foot got stuck in a trap. She struggled to get free. She winced in pain. "Zain?" She called out. "Zain help!" As agreed they came to the woods for hunting. They were still in their human forms but ravening like wolves they were. Zain was trees away from her, he was searching for a specific rabbit to use for dinner. "Those silly rogues!" Zain bent down, pulling Megan's feet. "Who are they?" Megan asked."Shhh, keep your voice low." Zain got up. "I have an idea." "Okay..and who are they?" She asked again. "They are lone wolves, they attack and destroy packs for fun." Zain explained. "The plan is, let's leave you here while I hide in the bushes, they will sense that you've fallen into their trap and boom! They will come out, then we will strike." "What if they kill me?" "Kill you with what?" Zain frowned, remembering he was dealing with a naive wolf. He looked at her, her chocolate-colored eyes locked with his. A gr
CHAPTER ELEVEN. "Zain, let's hear from you," Maleek said. "Everyone has made a suggestion except you." "Why don't we all take a thirty minutes break, then come back and decide?" His voice was laced with warmth and pride as usual. The problem was that no one ever took him seriously. How could they when he had no money? Bello was grateful for the suggestion of a break. He knew Zain would always come through for him. "Yes, a break is what we all need." "No amount of break will change the fact that your student whom you've been presenting as the best is involved in a very offensive sex scandal, that is capable of putting a serious dent on Ocean Academy's image." "It's enough, we'll go for the thirty minutes break," Simon said. ***"Are you involved in Jordan's sex scandal?" Megan questioned her friends as she pulled them aside. Tanya grinned. "I know nothing about that." "And you?" She looked at Aria. "Me neither," Aria said. "But I
CHAPTER TWELVE. "Wait here!" Megan instructed her friends."Why?" Avara asked her. "Why should they wait here?" She turned, looking at the long lonely door they had just passed. "What part of the gym is this?" Charlotte asked. "The basement," Megan replied, "and they can't follow us, our coach doesn't like crowds." Aria whispered to Megan, "What are you up to? This is not even close to Coach Zain's office." "Let's go." Megan smiled, then walked to the basement with Avara and Charlotte. When they were in the basement, Megan used her leg to shut the door. "Hey! Why did you do that?" Charlotte asked. "Open the door, it's dark here!" Avara said in an offensive tone. "What is your problem, girl?" Megan laughed mischievously. "My problem?" She turned on the light of her phone, and moved closer to Avara and Charlotte. As she drew closer to them, they moved backwards in fear. There was something scary about her. "Hey!" Avara muttered. "Stop it, weirdo." "You're getting us freaked
CHAPTER THIRTYMegan's eyes locked onto Trainor as he emerged from the chaos, his gun raised and ready to fire. She could see the hatred in his eyes, the determination to take her down."You're a monster," Trainor spat, his finger tightening on the trigger. "I should have killed you that day you first came into the world." Megan laughed, the sound echoing through the destruction. "I'm just getting started," she said, her voice dripping with menace. "Where is Zain?" Trainor fired, the bullet flying straight at Megan. But she didn't flinch, didn't even blink. The bullet hit her, but it didn't seem to have any effect. She just kept laughing, her eyes gleaming with a fierce inner light.Trainor's eyes widened in shock as he realized that the bullets weren't working. He fired again and again, but Megan just kept coming, her laughter growing louder and more manic. The military and police vans arrived, surrounding the area and opening fire. The sound of gunfire was deafening, the smell of
CHAPTER TWENTY NINE The night air was crisp and cool, the moon hanging low in the sky as Megan stood before the gathered werewolves. The clearing was filled with the sound of rustling leaves and snapping twigs, the only light coming from the flickering torches that surrounded the perimeter.Megan's eyes scanned the crowd, her gaze meeting the eager faces of her pack. They were ready for this, ready to take the fight to the humans and rescue their own."My friends," Megan began, her voice ringing out across the clearing. "Tonight, we gather to discuss a matter of great importance. A matter of life and death."The werewolves leaned in, their ears perked up and their eyes fixed intently on Megan."For too long, our kind has been persecuted by the humans," Megan continued. "They have hunted us, killed us, and enslaved us. But tonight, we take a stand. Tonight, we fight back."The werewolves erupted into cheers and screams, their voices echoing through the forest. Megan raised her hands,
CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHTThe sun had barely set, casting a golden glow over the forest, but Megan's mind was already racing with plans for the impending coup. She and Tory had parted ways, agreeing to meet back at the old oak tree at dawn, ready to put their plan into action. As she walked back to her makeshift den, Megan's heart was pounding with excitement and nerves. She had never been one for violence, but she knew that this was the only way to claim her rightful place as Alpha. She spent the rest of the night pacing back and forth, her mind replaying every possible scenario. What if Austin and the other Alphas put up a fight? What if they had more allies than she anticipated?Despite her doubts, Megan knew that she had to push forward. She had to take a stand and fight for what was rightfully hers.As the first light of dawn began to creep over the horizon, Megan made her way back to the old oak tree, her heart pounding with anticipation. Tory was already there, his eyes gleaming wit
CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVENMegan's heart sank as Austin's words cut through her like a knife. She felt a stinging sensation, as if she had been slapped. She tried to speak, to ask him why, but her voice caught in her throat. She turned and walked away, her eyes blurring with tears. She couldn't believe that Austin was rejecting her again, after they had just fought side by side to defend the pack.As she walked, she felt a sense of despair wash over her. She had thought that maybe, just maybe, Austin had started to see her in a different light. But now, it seemed like she was back to square one.She walked for what felt like hours, her feet carrying her on autopilot as her mind replayed the events of the battle. She couldn't understand why Austin was so determined to reject her. Finally, she found herself back at the edge of the forest, staring out at the familiar landscape of her hometown. She felt a sense of emptiness, as if she was staring into the abyss.Just as she was about to turn an
CHAPTER TWENTY - SIX Twenty moons had passed. Megan was still trapped with Tory. Perhaps it wasn't a trap, perhaps it was destiny. Tory had turned to a rogue wolf and she was still stuck, looking for ways to recommend herself and go back to the world to find Zain Adolphus. As Megan stepped into the heart of Stone Creek Pack, the scent of damp earth and wildflowers enveloped her, calming her nerves. The full moon hung low in the sky, shining in an ethereal glow over the gathering of wolves. The air was alive with the sound of rustling leaves and the distant howling of wolves. She had been searching for her fated mate for what felt like eternity, and tonight was the night she would finally find him.She looked through the crowd, her eyes locking onto a towering figure. His rugged features seemed chiseled from the granite of the surrounding mountains, and his broad shoulders rippled with muscle beneath his fitted T-shirt. The sound of his deep breathing was like a gentle hum, and sh
CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVEMegan's eyes blazed with determination as she stormed through the streets, her feet pounding the pavement in a rhythmic beat. She had been searching for hours, following every lead, every hint, every rumor. And finally, she had tracked down her father to an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of town.As she burst through the door, a cold wind swept past her, carrying the scent of decay and neglect. The warehouse was dimly lit, the only sound the creaking of old wooden beams and the distant hum of a city that never slept.Megan's eyes scanned the room, her gaze locking onto her father's figure. He was standing in the shadows, his arms crossed over his chest, his eyes narrowed in a mixture of anger and concern."Megan, what are you doing here?" Trainor asked, his voice firm but cautious.Megan's eyes flashed with anger. "You know exactly why I'm here, dad. I'm looking for Zain. Where is he?"Trainor's expression remained neutral. "I don't know what you're talking a
CHAPTER TWENTY-FOURThe sun's descent into the horizon painted the Ocean Academy campus with a warm, honey-colored light. The air was filled with the sweet fragrance of blooming flowers and the distant sound of students' laughter and chatter. Coach Maleek's office, however, was a different story. The atmosphere was tense, the air thick with anticipation.Trainor stood outside the office, his eyes fixed on the door as he took a deep breath. He could hear the muffled sound of voices inside, Coach Maleek and Zain discussing something in hushed tones. Trainor's hand instinctively went to his gun, a habit he'd developed over years of service. He knocked on the door, the sound echoing through the corridor."Come in," Coach Maleek called out, his voice firm but friendly.Trainor pushed open the door, his eyes scanning the room. Coach Maleek and Zain were seated at the desk, a look of surprise on their faces. "Trainor, what brings you here?" Coach Maleek asked, his brow furrowed in concern."
CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE."I'm curious about where we are headed!" Tory said, pulling back the man that looked like their leader. "Where do you think we're going? Relax, it's a new place, the politician paid huge for this, and you will get your cut after we've completed the job," The man responded. "This place is creepy!" Tory said with a snort. "I'm not going if you don't give me the full details.""Okay, we are digging a grave tonight." "What!" Tory looked around. "Oh no, please don't involve me in digging anybody's brave. I can't do that, man." "You want money or not?" The man glared at him."No, I don't," Tory insisted. "Then turn back and leave, and make sure you seal your lips or else you know where your neck will end up." The man growled. "Now get out! I might not call you for the next job." "Man, you can't just discharge me without giving me a good tip, I took a cab here.""No tips." The man said firmly, entering a van with two other guys. They took a lonely path and sped o
CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO. "In this paper bag." Trainor dropped a sealed paper bag on Inspector Desmond"s table. "You will see a gun that belongs to Dr. Matt, legally licenced. I found the DNA of the last werewolf he murdered on it." "How can you tell it's a werewolf's DNA?" Desmond questioned. "The new team of doctors I am working with confirmed it, their DNA is different from human's." "So you are saying Matt has been discreetly killing all the werewolves in his care, for years now?" Desmond asked. "Yes. I go out there and face all sorts of dangers, just to capture these monsters alive, take them to the laboratory to see if Matt can transform them permanently to humans, but he turns around to kill them?" Trainor huffed impatiently. "He is not getting away with this." "Where is Matt?" "I locked him and his team up, in different cell rooms." "Have you interrogated his team?" "Yes." Trainor nodded. "Majority has confessed to the crime." "What does he use in killing these guys?" "H
