Emily walked into the house to meet Richard, who was pacing around the room, clearly in a state of worry.

She ignored him and walked past, heading straight to her son’s room. The only thing she needed to do was to confirm that he was doing okay, after which she would return to her quarters and have a nice rest.

The day had been hectic and the last thing she needed was someone who would add up to the heat and tension she was feeling already.

“Emily! You would just walk past me without uttering a word?” Richard asked with clear shock written on his face as he gazed at Emily, who didn’t wear an indifferent look.

“I just want to wish my son a good night of rest. He is the only important thing I have in the world now”, she said defiantly, causing Richard’s mouth to open slightly.

She meant it, though. Her son was the only person who hadn't judged her, mistrusted her, or tried to put her in trouble.
