Chapter 4.

CHAPTER FOUR

“Are you crazy?" Brie exclaimed, causing the people hanging around us to turn to us with raised brows. Brie flushed at the attention before she leaned her head closer to me and said, “That’s suicide."

“It’s not. I want revenge on Kelvin.” I yelled over the loud music of the club.

We moved to France immediately after the divorce, which was two weeks ago. I know it was a big move, but I didn’t want to run into Kelvin when I was still healing, but I came across the perfect opportunity.

“But using his brother against him is just cold, Lucy. It’s going to cause a lot of drama,” she warned, turning back to eye the man who sat in the VIP lounge while a dancer danced in front of him.

“Is it because of Kilein Carter that you wanted to move to France?” She asked with eyes wide in disbelief.

“No. I promise, it wasn’t planned. I even forgot that Kelvin had a brother in France.” I corrected.

My eyes watched Kilein. I didn’t know much about the man except what Kelvin had told me about him. Kilein was Kelvin’s bastard brother, but he was older. His mother, Martha, had difficulty giving his father a child when they had just gotten married, so he had gone elsewhere in search of an heir.

This caused both children to be enemies from birth. Despite Kilein being a bastard, their father had named him an heir to the corporation alongside Kelvin, which fuelled the bad blood between them.

“So, what now? You want to seduce him and use him against Kelvin?” Brie scoffed, not happy with my idea.

“Well, that wasn’t what I had in mind, but that is a genius idea. Thank you, Brie.” She looked at me like I was crazy.

Brie pulled me out of the club and to the side so we could talk without the loud music over us. “Are you crazy? You are pregnant, Lucy. You can’t become a dancer."

I looked at her with a purse on my lips. I was a good dancer, and I just found out from the chatter around us that Kilein frequents this club because he likes the dancers. I could become a dancer to get close to him and use it against Kelvin.

Kelvin hated Kilein more than anything. Seeing me with Kilein would ruin him and cause him more pain than I ever felt.

“I know I am pregnant. Everything will be done before I begin to show,” I told her, confident even though I had no plans about what I wanted to do.

Brie’s eyes widen with concern. She took my hands in a firm grip and shook me. “Lucy, let it go. Revenge is never a good thing. You already got your divorce, and you moved countries. I thought you wanted to move on and start over. What is this sudden addiction to revenge since you set eyes on Kilein? It was never the plan.”

“Well, it’s the plan now. I’m not changing my mind. Either you help me or leave me to do it alone,” I said firmly with a huff.

“But why the sudden wish for revenge?” Brie pried, and I shook her off.

“Because he is still happy!” I yelled, tears filling my eyes. “He hurt me so much, but he moved on easily, as if it were nothing."

“What?” She whispered, eyes wide with surprise. “How do you know that? He looked remorseful at the courthouse; I doubt he would have moved on that easily."

“I saw them." My voice broke. “I was scrolling through my social media account and saw a picture of him and Stephanie. They were both smiling so big, and she was clinging to him with his arms around her waist like they were always made to be." Tears prickled my eyes.

“Lucy”

I hated how weak and stupid I felt. Kelvin had the nerve to move on with Stephanie, and I was still hurting, even though I pretended like I wasn’t.

“How dare he try to be happy after breaking my heart and hurting me like that? I want him to feel the pain I feel. He hates Kilein more than anything, and I know Kelvin enough to know that seeing me with his worst enemies would shake his world like a tornado. I want him to hurt, Brie. More than anything."

“But what if things don’t end up the way you want? Revenge can be tricky."

I laughed, but it was fake. “Brie, I am not blind to the possible turns it could take, but what is life without a little risk?”

“And what of your heart? If you get close to Kilein, what happens if you manage to fall in love with him? You have to think about that as well,” she pointed out.

“Kilein is nothing but a pawn in this game. From what I’ve heard from Kelvin, he is a bastard, and I don’t mean his birth. He is an arrogant jerk who thinks no one is better than him. There is no way I am falling for a man like that,” I told her confidently.

I know Kelvin may have been biased in the way he described his brother, but Martha had even worse words to say about Kilein. It didn’t matter how much they exaggerated the words; there had to be an atom of truth in them.

I liked it more that Kilein was a horrible person. It meant that I didn’t have to be considerate of whether he deserved to be used or not, and I didn’t have to worry about falling for someone like that.

“You can’t be so certain, Lucy. Love is tricky, and our hearts can be fragile,” she warned.

A smirk played on my lips, and I folded my arms across my chest. “My heart is mine, Brie, so I know it well. I won’t be swayed by a man like that, regardless of the charms he has. Kelvin will see me with his brother, and it will burn him. That is all I desire. When I get what I want, I will leave Kilein and move on."

“There is nothing I can say or do to change your mind. I still think you would be happier leaving all this behind." She pressed, her voice laced with frustration.

My steel gaze met hers. “I won’t let him get away with hurting me. It’s time Kelvin got a little taste of his own medicine. I want to be the karma he gets. Fuck the universe doing it for me."

Brie said nothing, and I turned and walked away, back inside the club. I didn’t go back to our table. Rather, I made my way to the bar attendant.

As I passed by Kilein’s table, our eyes met for a brief second, and I almost missed my step. His eyes were as hard as steel. Was it possible for amber eyes to be so cold? His judgemental gaze caressed my body before the girl on his lap turned his attention back to her.

I was stunned. It was barely a minute, but I was left with a tingling sensation in my body, like I wanted those eyes on me again. What was this feeling? I shook it off. It was too early to get distracted.

I pulled myself together and continued my way to the bar. The bar attendant walked up to me as I leaned over the counter.

“What drink do you want?” He asked and was already sliding an empty glass towards me, but I stopped him and pushed the glass back to him.

“I’m not here for a drink. Where is your manager? I need a job."
