Chapter 5: An Appointment
Rose’s eyes lit up as she picked up the call. Her hands simultaneously lifted the phone to her ears, and her lips puffed out a calm “Hello.” “Hello!” the caller stammered out from the other end, realizing the phone had been picked. “Is this Miss Rose?” the feminine voice of the caller proceeded, her voice slightly filled with desperation. Rose chuckled before she replied, “Yes, I am. How can I help you?” “Oh my gosh! Finally! I have been trying to call you for ages, so I can fix an appointment with you, ma,” the caller stuttered from the other end. “Okay. What’s the deal? What’s so urgent that you want to discuss with me?” Rose’s voice was calm but dangerous. She already knew who was calling and why, so she just had to play along now. “Ma, please, we really need you in our company. My boss wants to meet you desperately,” the caller continued. “Your boss wants to meet me desperately? I hope there’s no problem?” “Oh no, not at all, ma. I promise you that the meeting won’t take up your time or stress you,” the lady from the other end continued. “Indeed. What company is that exactly?” Rose questioned, her lips spreading in a deadly grin. “Oh, ma, it’s Derek Enterprises. It will be a great honor to have you, so please don’t decline this offer.” “It better not be a disappointing deal, because I won’t take it. I hope the deal is worth my precious time,” Rose said. “Of course, ma. You won’t be disappointed at all. I promise you.” “Okay, then. Schedule a meeting for tomorrow, because I can’t make it today,” Rose said with a tone of conclusion. “Oh, really? Thank you so much, ma…” Rose didn’t let the lady on the other end finish talking before she halted the call. “Pervert,” she cursed, a satisfied smile lurking around her lips. “Just you wait till I get my hands on you, Derek, and give you a taste of your own medic”ne. I will ruin you for ever messing with me,” Rose cursed with seethed teeth and a fisted hand. “I will make you pay for messing with…” A call cut her short. She picked up the phone and stared at the caller ID, and her lips curved into a smile before she picked up the call. “Hello! How are things turning out?” Dave asked from the other end. “Well, things are turning out great. His company just called, scheduling an appointment,” Rose chuckled. “I can’t wait to pay him back in his own coin,” Rose stuttered, and as she chuckled, she could feel pain building up in her again. “He will finally get what he deserves. That jerk!” Dave cursed from his end. “Mom, we are hungry…” Ken said, rushing to Rose. Dave chuckled from his end as he heard Ken’s voice. “He hasn’t stopped being a foodie,” he laughed. “Of course not, he doesn’t joke around with food. Well, I think I have to attend to the kids now. I will call you later,” Rose said with a hint of finality. “Okay then. We will talk later. Attend to the precious kids,” Dave concluded before ending the call. As Rose stood up from the couch to attend to her kids, she couldn’t stop herself from smiling. “This is going to be so fun,” she chuckled. … … … … .. “Gosh! I am dying from suspense. How did the call go? I hope you have a positive response for me?” Derek stammered, his heartbeat racing. His secretary, whom he had assigned to call the popular model, was back in his office to offer feedback. As Derek waited for her response, he could feel his heart almost exploding. He didn’t know what to expect, but he wanted a positive response by all means. At this point in his life, his career was on the line, and he didn’t want to risk it for anything. All his fears and tension disappeared when his secretary’s lips spread into a wide smile. Instantly, he knew he would be expecting good news. “She agreed to meet up?” he questioned his secretary, his ears itching for a response. “Yes, sir. She agreed to meet up, sir,” his secretary screamed with excitement. “Oh my gosh! This is huge,” Derek found himself smiling like a fool. This was a lifetime opportunity for him, and aside from that, it was an opportunity for him to expand his wealth fivefold. He turned to his secretary, his lips still spread wide in laughter. “Get everything ready, the venue, the decorations, every single thing.” “Yes, sir, I will do that immediately,” the secretary said with a bow and walked away. “Oh my gosh! This is so much easier than I expected,” Derek exclaimed in excitement. “Just you wait, Father, and watch me prove myself to you,” he continued. He sat back in his chair, relaxing his back on the soft cushion. He shifted continuously from his sitting position and wouldn’t stop laughing. But his laughter suddenly turned to amazement as a thought flashed through his mind: “Who could this model be that I haven’t seen?” He earnestly wished to know the face of such a powerful and successful model. “Who could you be?” he stuttered in amazement. All his life, he hadn’t worked with anyone more powerful than him. In fact, he was the one who usually declined deals, but for the first time, he prayed so hard for someone to accept his deal. As he tried to think, it still felt odd. “Who exactly could this be?” He wondered, his curiosity piqued. He just couldn’t wait for the next day; he seemed so interested in this lady already.Chapter 6: The Beginning of Torment The evening air swept through the sky, giving a chilly sensation to the pedestrians on the street. The evening was beautiful and sang nothing but the beauty of nature. Few people walked up and down the streets, and cars zoomed to their destinations. Among the cars that drove to their destinations was a black-tinted Benz, the latest released one.The well-designed tires of the car synced rhythmically with the floor, and its beauty shone off. Inside the car sat a woman dressed in a black suit. Her composure and beauty could capture the heart of any man, even if his heart was made of stone. The suit hung beautifully and elegantly on her skin, and her long, flowy trousers attested to the beauty of the dress. Her black, shiny hair was beautifully styled, and her face was covered in natural makeup. Her ears, wrists, and neck were decorated with golden ornaments, and her legs were enclosed in golden heels.“Miss Rose, we are here already,” Rose’s driver s
Chapter 7: A First Step “Nice to meet you, Derek Reynolds,” she smiled at Derek, who stared at her in fear and shock. His mouth was wide open, and his face showed fear, shock, and horror.Derek stared at the most unexpected figure, as he tried to figure out if he was dreaming or seeing things. As his eyes stayed on Rose, his mind reflected on what had happened five years ago—the night he and Sofia had pushed her down into the ocean. He was certain he had seen her drown into the depths of the ocean, so definitely, he was obviously seeing things, because there was no way Rose could be back.“Are you alright, sir?” a voice pierced into his chain of thoughts, pulling him back to reality. “You have been absent-minded; are you sure you are okay, sir?” The voice proceeded.Derek stared stupidly for a while before letting out a reply. “I am fine,” he said, his eyes not leaving Rose, who only returned a smile.“Are you really okay? You seem flustered,” Rose spoke up, her eyes glittering aroun
Chapter 8: Two can play the game“I think the deal is already signed,” Rose said, pushing the pen aside. She had just signed the contract.“Thank you so much, ma. This means a lot to our company, and I promise that we won’t ever give you a reason to regret signing this contract with us,” Mrs. O smiled, her face filled with gratefulness. She was sure to be promoted now that Rose had signed the contract; Derek had promised her a promotion if she could get Rose on their side.“I think that’s all for now,” Rose giggled from her sitting position, letting out a charming smile.“Yes, ma, that is all for you until the contract kicks off,” Mrs. O replied with a bow.“Okay then. I hope to hear from you guys soon,” Rose said, picking her bag and phone from the table and preparing to leave.“You have been so calm throughout the meeting. I hope you are good?” Rose asked, her eyes dancing around Derek, who still seemed lost and lacked an idea of what was happening around him.Derek stared at her f
Chapter 9: More than an EnemyDerek couldn’t stop himself from fearing the unknown as he waited for the receiver to pick up his call. “Damn!” He cursed in annoyance when the call wasn’t picked up on the first ring. “Where exactly is this punk?” He breathed out in annoyance, his teeth seething and his hand fisting into a tight blow.He jammed his hand against the wall as he dialed the number again. “You better pick up this time, you fool!” He cuffed, unable to contain his anger. As he waited desperately for the receiver to pick up his call, his prayer finally came to pass. “You fool, where did you drop your phone and go?” he barked at his messenger. “Do you know how long I’ve been trying to reach you, you fool?” he barked on, and the man on the other end could do nothing but apologize.“I’m so sorry, sir. I was bathing when you called. I… ““Oh, shut your trashy mouth!” Derek cut him short. “If my life was on the line and I needed you to pick up the call on the first ring, would you h
Chapter 10: A surprise Derek stormed out of his office, leaving his secretary with a clear instruction. “I’ll be back before you know it; take care of the office until I return,” he said, his face reddening with rage.He had never been so flustered by someone. The encounter had left him seething. Outside, his car waited, his driver patiently sitting in the driver’s seat.Derek yanked the front door open and barked a single command: “Get out, I’ll drive myself!” His eyes still blazed with anger, intimidating the now-terrified driver.Without hesitation, the driver leapt out of the driver’s seat and bowed his head in respect. Derek ignored the gesture, his focus solely on his mission. “I’ll call you when I need you,” he said curtly, before speeding off.The driver bowed again, watching as his boss disappeared into the distance. As Derek navigated the bustling streets of NYC, Rose’s threat echoed in his mind. “How could she?” he seethed, slamming his head against the steering wheel. His
Chapter 11: She’s back“Wait! Do you really mean what you just said?” Sofia threw at her husband, her face narrating shock. She clutched her body, her legs shaking with a sense of dread. Her face was etched with horror and shock, and her mouth was sealed with panic. Her long, flowy hair was scattered all over her face as she settled on the couch, and her face was a total mess.“What are we going to do? This might be the end of us,” she suddenly turned to Derek and said. Derek stared at her speechlessly. He knew that informing his wife about Rose’s return would put her in an uncomfortable mood, but he never thought it would make a great mess of her.“Put yourself together,” he heard himself screaming at his wife. He was obviously filled with anger by her attitude. He watched as she stood up from the couch and rushed to him like an angry dog. “Put myself together? Are you crazy?" she barked in his face, her eyes still settled with horror.“How am I supposed to put myself together?”
Chapter 12: A Meeting The ringing of the doorbell snatched Rose from her sleep. She rose up from the couch on which she had slept and sat up. She used her hand to rub her sleepy eyes and yawned out loud. “Gosh!” she muttered, still rubbing her eyes. “How long have I been sleeping?” she said, fixing her eyes on the wall clock, and her eyes flew open. “Darn! I slept for 3 hours?” She gasped in shock and stood up from the couch. “It’s exactly 5:20,” she suddenly realized. The kids should have been back by now, but they weren’t. As she stood there, she wondered what could be keeping them in school when the doorbell rang again. She didn’t realize the doorbell had rung before, even though it was the sound that woke her from her sleep. She was too asleep then to realize it. But now that her eyes were beginning to clear, and she was more aware of her surroundings, she heard it this time around.“It must be them,” she giggled, rushing off to the door. As she got to the door, she stared
Chapter 13: Bad NewsAs Derek’s driver pulled up in front of a massive mansion. Derek walked out of his car after gathering his important files and phone. He stood In front of the massive mansion and breathed out, as if he was trying to catch his breath. His eyes scanned the peculiar building, as it beauty shone forth. It was a three-story building, a type you would barely come across. It was built with the most expensive materials gathered from around the world; its architecture was top-notch, and the color complemented the entire building. It was painted a bright milk color.Huge trees surrounded the building, giving it a relaxing view. Benches were positioned under each tree, inviting visitors to sit and enjoy the view while the breeze from the trees swept through their faces.“Sir Derek,” Derek suddenly heard behind him, and he was forced to look back only to see his grandfather messenger.“Your grandfather asked me to bring you in; please, can you come with me?” The messenger b
Chapter 129: A Child Three weeks later… The family has been discharged from the hospital, and now it’s time to return home. “It’s finally great to be able to return home,” Kendell releases a broad smile and looks up at her mom, who stood behind. “Right? I really wished to go home right away because I really don’t like the amount of people being rushed here daily. It breaks my heart,” Ken, who was standing next to her, chipped in with a sad scowl. “Honestly, it breaks my heart so badly that I wish to cry whenever I see such,” Kendell backed her brother.“Gosh! They talk like they have existed for ages,” Sofia, who stood not far from Rose, said to her in a surprised tone, and the entire room erupted in laughter. “You haven’t even seen anything; sometimes I wonder if they are really kids because they act so mature, and let’s not even talk about the way they talk,” Rose laughed.“I have already seen everything that is needed to be seen. The few days I have spent with them are enough
Chapter 128: A Family Chat “But I hope you are not in serious pain?” Ken asked, his voice laced with a concerned tone. “No, I am fine,” Derek lied, so his son would worry less.“Ok, I am glad you are, Dad,” Ken said with a broad smile, and Derek smiled back. “So, when are we returning home?” Kendell asked, desperation evident in her eyes.“It’s obvious you are tired of this place already,” Rose giggled, seeing the desperation in her daughter’s eyes. “Yes, Mom, I am so tired of this place and want to go home already,” Kendell replied.“Well, I seriously don’t know when the doctor would be discharging us, so I can’t answer that question,” Rose answered kindly, and Kendell pouted. “Ouch! I really wanted to go home,” she said, pushing her lips out and rendering her face in a sad scorn.“Don’t act like a baby now; you are a big girl,” Ken interrupted, already having enough of his sister’s silly behavior. Kendell gave him a deadly glare and hissed, “I am not acting like a baby; I just mis
Chapter 127: I Miss YouRose yawned and stretched tiredly on the bed. She rubbed her eyes with her hands and sat up from the bed. Her eyes quickly moved to the wall clock, and she flashed up from the bed immediately. She took a quick glance at her husband and daughter, who were still sleeping, before she rushed out of the ward.Outside the ward, she rushed to the surgery room, where she met the doctor standing outside the room, accessing a file in his hand. “Thank goodness!” the doctor exclaimed on sighting her. “I was looking for your details so I could call, but glad you came at the right time,” the doctor said with a bright smile.“I couldn’t sleep throughout yesterday night, and when I eventually managed to sleep, I couldn’t stop thinking, so as soon as it was daybreak, I hurried over here,” Rose explained hurriedly.“So, can I see them now? You said the surgery was successful,” Rose’s eyes danced around the doctor as she queried.“Yes, ma’am, the surgery was a success,” the doc
Chapter 126: Be Positive Rose sat on Derek’s bed after keeping her daughter next to her. She gave him a long stare of pity before pulling his hands into hers. “Derek,” she mumbled slowly.“Didn’t I warn you not to go after them? Didn’t I warn you to stay back with us and allow the police to do their job?” she said to her unconscious husband.“What if something happens to you? What if you have died? What would have become of us? Who gave you the right to come into our life and leave again?” She couldn’t hold back her tears this time around.“Your son is having surgery right now, and I am scared. You know I am not strong-hearted; you should have been here to comfort me and assure me that everything would be fine,” she sniffed, the pain hitting deep.“You should have been hale and healthy by now, and not lying unconscious on this hospital bed,” she continued. “So you better wake up now, because I am tired of seeing you in such a situation, because it is eating me up, and it isn’t funny
Chapter 125: The surgery After what seemed like an eternity to Rose, Sofia and the doctor showed up. Sighting them from afar, she rushed to them and inquired about the results of the test. Her worried eyes darted from her sister to the doctor as she awaited a response. She watched as the doctor’s lips spread into a bright smile before he replied, “They are a match.”“They are?” Rose exclaimed excitedly, and the doctor nodded, a bright smile on his lips. “I am glad I am able to save your son’s life,” Sofia said with a bright smile, and Rose pulled her into a warm hug. “Thanks so much, Sofia. Thank you,” Rose said amidst the hug.“Mom, does this mean that Ken will be fine?” Rose heard and immediately knew it was her daughter. She looked down below her, where the voice erupted, and there, in front of her, stood her daughter, just as she expected. She pushed out a bright smile and bent to her daughter’s level. “Everything is going to be fine now; everything will be perfect now,” she
Chapter 124: Check Mine The nurses pushed the stretcher into the surgery room; Derek lay weakly on the stretcher, and the officer ran after them.“Please, can you keep him safe? Please protect him,” the officer pleaded with the doctors, his face etched with worry.“We have no guarantee for now, but we will do our best to make sure that nothing happens to him,” one of the nurses replied in a comforting tone. The officer couldn’t respond; he just watched the nurse like a fool.“Ok, you can’t enter here with us, so please just remain outside and pray for him,” the nurse said when they finally got into the surgery room. The officer staggered back and fell weakly onto one of the chairs in front of him. He sat there, confused and unsure of the next thing to do.“I need to inform his wife about this; I really need to,” he muttered after a while, and he wandered off to look for Rose.He asked anyone he came across until he really got to a person who knew her.“Sorry, do you know about any pa
Chapter 123: Deadly Encounter Derek walked out of a corner, his frustration growing thin. His hands were placed on his hips, and beads of sweat washed down his face. His tired eyes danced around the police officer as he waited for a response.“Yes, sir, I just finished looking and can’t find anything, but the other officers are also looking around,” the man pointed to the rest of the officers who were combing the area.“And I also placed other officers to comb through other areas in the city,” the officer added, and Derek nodded casually.“Gosh! How could that jerk escape?” Derek felt a surge of pain wash through him, and his anger extended. “We really need to find them, because apart from the fact that they need to be brought to justice, I also have a lot of questions to ask them,” Derek said.“I will make sure we find them; they couldn’t have left the city, also because we have put officers in every exit and airport,” the officer reassured again, and Derek felt a bit of hope wash
“Oh my God! So you’re trying to say they escaped?” the officer fired, and the deputy couldn’t answer. “Jess!” the officer ended the call and turned to the eyes dancing around him. Before they could ask him anything, he threw it at them: “They escaped.”“They escaped? Who?” Sofia repeated, still not understanding where the officer was headed. The officer looked at each of them and blinked his eyes continuously before replying, “Dave and Anna escaped the station, and they are currently on the run.” The officer gathered all the strength he had in him and said. He watched as they all widened their eyes in shock, and how the women's eyes quickly moved to fear and worry. As for Derek, he grew angry.“We must find them; we can’t let them go just like that,” Derek folded his hands in annoyance and paced back and forth, still unable to control his anger. “But how can they escape? How were they able to escape such a big station?” He turned to the officer and frowned. “It’s your duty to ret
Chapter 121: They Escaped Rose unleashed from the hug after a while and stared into Sofia’s eyes. “Sofia, why did you got me worried? You weren’t picking up your calls, neither did you call me back to inform me why you didn’t pick up.” She gave her a stern look and looked at the officer. “Why is an officer with you?” She shuddered after processing it.“Lol! Don’t worry,” Sofia tapped her shoulders and said, “She could sense the fear that lies beneath her question.” “There’s nothing to be scared of, okay? He isn’t arresting me or anyone,” Sofia added, her lower lip stretched in a light smile.“Okay, what is going on here?” Derek’s voice sliced into their conversation, and his eyes quickly moved around them. It was only then that Rose realized that he couldn’t see the two of them together, but then it was already late; he had already seen them, and she couldn’t hide it anymore. She tucked a piece of hair obstructing her view into the back of her ear and turned to Derek. “She is my s
