CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND THREE

HAZEL’S POV.

Perhaps it was the feeling of restraint that woke me up, or it was the water dripping gently on my face, like a leaking ceiling, I wouldn’t really know.

I felt miserable. My bones were sore, and I couldn’t even feel my arms.

Then suddenly, an icy blast hit my face hard like a slap, drenching me from head to toe. My eyes flew open instantly.

My breath hitched as the water streamed down my face, soaking my hair and plastering my shirt to my skin.

Blinking furiously, I realized I couldn’t even wipe my eyes with my hands. They were tied.

My gasp came out sharp and ragged, as I tried to catch my breath. Looking up, still trying to blink back water from my eyes, I heard the metallic clang of the bucket hitting the floor, echoing as someone I recognized began to pace around.

“You’ve done enough sleeping, don't you think?”

“M… Melissa?” I called in disbelief, and she turned round to face me, her eyes fierce as they beheld me. All she seemed to ha

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FOUR DARIUS’ POV.“What do you mean by Hazel isn’t here?” I snarled, looking at the scarf offered to me. “She’s nowhere to be found.” He replied, and I sighed in frustration. With gritted teeth, I spoke, “There’s no way Hazel could have known I was coming. There’s nowhere for her to go.” My gaze sliced towards Hazel’s stepsister, who stood in the corner, holding her fingers before her as she chewed hard on her lip.“I… I didn’t do anything.” Slowly, I walked to her, taking step after step, letting the fear ring loud in her, letting it build up rapidly. By the time, I was so close to her, her eyes stared at my chest wide, ready to pop, and her whole face was completely white as she couldn’t stand my presence, and the full force of my attention. “Where is Hazel?” I let out menacingly. “She came. Hazel came. I’m… I’m not lying. Hazel was indeed here. I have nothing to do with it, oh please, don’t harm me. Hazel was here.”“What nonsense in the damned hells

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIVE MELISSA'S POV.*I was there again, walking in the shadow, stealing across the dark dungeons. The guards were all snoring, after sharing cakes given by me, eating them happily, without even thinking. She was awake, with tears streaming down her face. Her mascara had been miserably smudged down her face with her tears, and her makeup utterly ruined. She was nothing, but pathetic. She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't even notice me approaching her, until I stood in front of her. “Celia.” I called, and she finally looked up. “Lady Melissa!” She crawled forward to the bars of her cell, and looked up at me with desperation, “Get me out. They're gonna kill me. I didn't say anything. Lady Me…”“If you call my name once more, I'm going to cut that tongue of yours in half. Don't you use your brains? What if someone accidentally hears us?” I asked, glaring at her. “Fine. Then, I don't mind. Just… just get me out. You have to find a way to set me fre

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIX MELISSA'S POV.“Uh?” My voice came out timid, shocked, and hesitant. That wasn't what I was expecting. What happened? Did he find out what I did? Did he know that I took Hazel? Instinctively, I looked down at the floor below which Hazel was drugged to sleep, and tied to her chair. My heart raced with fresh panic, rushing through me like a cold stream. “Where are you?” He asked, and it occured to me how silly it was to hide Hazel in one of my vacation houses. Darius could easily locate me, and then her. “B…business trip. What happened?”“Business trip, right? Get yourself down here.” “Dar…” the line went dead, and I dropped the phone, jumping to my feet. My fingers were trembling so much that I doubted I'd be able to actually hold anything. “Deep breaths, Melissa.” I said, and tried to steady my shaky breaths. Darius won't even think about coming to any of my vacation houses. He wants me to come to him. Another call came in, and my heart jumped. H

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVEN DARIUS' POV.Finally… After over an hour had flitted by, she showed up, preparing for me, an innocent look that seemed to irritate me. Unable to help myself, not even predicting myself, I'd covered up the distance in a second, my movement blurred with the wind. Melissa didn't even expect it. She was so taken aback. My hands found her frail neck, and she let out a pig squeal as I squeezed too hard, slamming her into the wall. Her eyes held terror I'd never seen, and dark blood ran from her blonde head down her cheeks, and under her chin, slipping onto her dress. And with my nostrils flared, I squeezed further. A little more, and her tiny neck would snap. “Darius!” She choked, her fingers trying to pry my grip off her neck, “Do you… know what you're doing!” She asked, her voice forced. “How dare you touch Hazel? Who gave you the audacity to take her!” I snarled, increasing the strength of my hold on her. Her face ran pale, and fear raced through he

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHT HAZEL'S POV.Everywhere fell into darkness and silence since Melissa left. I could barely see. The only source of light was a dying candle on a table, but it was too far for it to spread towards me. It only covered a tiny spot in light. My hands began to move against the tight ropes aggressively. My kids. That was the only thought on my mind. I could not leave them wherever they were. I had to see they were okay. No. Never would I believe that my kids were dead. Melissa would not have me fooled. “Damn you!” I screeched in exhaustion as the ropes refused to budge. Then suddenly, it was as if a bulb sparked Alice in my head as my eyes laced on the dying candle. Why didn't I think of it earlier?I began to jolt myself on the chair, allowing it to rock and jump, moving closer to the table. Several times, it would stand dangerously on a single leg, and I got scared that it would suddenly fall over, leaving me helpless. However, the moon was on my side.

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND NINE HAZEL'S POV.The truck stopped, and we got down from it, and began to pack things down. The workers took the goods, and handed them to uniformed maids waiting in front of the mansion, taking the goods from the workers. I took a little painting, and carried it with my head bowed, so recognition would be harder.I wasn't going to wait around for anyone to come, asking me questions I didn't need. I got down from the truck with the painting, and marched right past the gates. Instead of handing it to a maid, I simply let myself flow in the sea of maids carting goods into the mansion. It was quite a chore, I had to be careful, raising my eyeballs as high as they could go to see my path, while keeping my head still bowed. However, a girl carrying a vase suddenly stepped in line with me. “Are you one of us? Why aren't you on your uniform?” She asked, and I looked at her black and white uniform, then back to the people I'd come with. None of them were enteri

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TEN MELISSA'S POV.“Phew.” I said for the thousandth time that evening. Everytime I thought about Darius, and how I'd narrowly escaped him, was nerve-jangling. My fingers found my neck, caressing it. He would have squashed me. I'd come clean. Darius knew I knew about Hazel. There was no turning back. “My lady, is there anything you need?” Hannah asked me, taking my empty cup of wine from me. “Yeah, refill that.” I rubbed my head, trying to think. Although, I had to admit that it felt very nice seeing Darius that desperate. “That wench. How did she manage to make him like that? What exactly did she do to make him subject to her? It can't be just because they're mates. Is it sorcery? A love potion? Shit!” I hit the table, and Hannah looked terrified. “You will need to calm down, my lady. Your migraines will pick up again.” She said carefully.“Damn those migraines. If only I was the one who could make Darius as desperate as that. If only I could be the re

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND ELEVEN HAZEL'S POV.Everything in me froze like the frost has suddenly gotten to me. My feet were lead. I simply stood there, while my mind was screaming…‘Turn around, Hazel! Walk away!’Why couldn't I do that single thing? Why did it seem like so many commands were rushing to my brain, and my brain couldn't seem to pick one to follow?Falcon knew my face! He was Darius' man, and had seen me so many times. No amount of face disfigurement that I applied would fool him. Especially since Darius was looking for me.But why was he coming from the dungeon? Did he… did he go to torture the kids?My heart began to pound crazily in my chest, hitting hard against its cage. My mind supplied me with vivid cries of the children, and even though they weren't real, my heart still broke. “Hey you…” Falcon began, and I jolted from the sound of his voice, only to jolt for the second time when a large hand grazed my shoulder. I was turned harshly, and came face to face with X

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-NINEHAZEL'S POV {One Year Later}I pushed the baby in the cot, hearing him moan and look up at me with twinkling eyes. “Sweet Dennis, you know you want to sleep. Don't give mom a headache. You know I should be with the twins, right? It's their birthday, and you had me with you all day.” I said, touching his cheeks, and he giggled. His giggle— my freedom. After Xander had been banished, and Melissa had been cast into the dungeon, I'd been so traumatized. She'd truly given birth to a baby, but it had been given to Xander. That was the last thing Darius could do to compensate him as a Beta as he sent him off to never return. As for Melissa? She remained in the dungeon. The moment she gave birth to the baby, she hated it. She complained the baby didn't give her freedom and seeing it made her remember Xander whom she painted to be a traitor and a snitch. Staying in the dungeon had broken her and the maids whispered of how she murmurs inaudible words,

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-EIGHTMELISSA'S POV I yawned, stepping out of the room to get myself something to eat. Perhaps, it was just my intuition, but the house felt strangely quiet. The fridge light reflected on my face as I pulled it open, and I saw that Hazel's food for the day hadn't been given to her. “Are you planning to starve her now that we're going to kill her?” I called out, “Well, good riddance!”My voice bounced back to me in echoes, and I stepped back, “Xander?” My feet crossed the living room quickly to the room he usually slept, and I pushed open the door. He wasn't there. Did he really go to a hotel, or was he down in the basement with Hazel?Turning around, I went straight to the basement, and pushed it open, looking inside as I switched on the light. Hazel wasn't there! It hit me like a bolt of terror. “Xander! Hazel!” I called into the empty basement as if they would reply from some hiding place.“No, no! CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-SEVENHAZEL’S POV I couldn't believe it when Xander was loosing the ropes from me. I was finally free. My hands were so white, and devoid of blood, completely lifeless. After freeing my legs, he helped me rise to my feet, but I fell back almost immediately. He caught me, and we waited a while for me to be able to regain the feeling in my legs. Walking was strange and difficult after being tied up for so long, but after taking a few steps, I finally began to get the hang of it, my heart pounding in excitement as we left the house. Xander took me in his car to the mansion, and I rubbed my hands in anxiety. I would see my kids. I would see Darius. Night had fallen completely by the time we got to the mansion, and when the guards at the gate saw Xander, they gave a signal, and different guards came out from different angles, surrounding us with weapons trained on us. “Beta Xander, you have been…” A guard began.“I know. I know… just take me to the Kin

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-SIXXANDER’S POV As Melissa walked past me, my hands balled into a fist, and shook so much that I couldn't even find a way to calm myself. She had crossed the line. She had done way too much. She had said way too much!My chest burned intensely, as a wild heat rampaged around, spreading deep within me, like a fire racing down a forest, burning everything in sight. Damn everything. Damn it all. I wouldn't let her have what she wanted. My baby! She was going to give it to Darius. And then killed Hazel? That was impossible. Yes, I'm mad at Hazel, but I still love her and wouldn't just let her die. The thought ate at me for hours, digging deep inside of me, probing me, disturbing me, until I finally realized I couldn't stay still. Hazel couldn't just die like that. I know it sounds crazy to not want her dead after everything she did to me, but for the sake of the past… perhaps just for the past…I stormed down to the basement where she stayed tied u

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-FIVE MELISSA’S POV Yes, Three long weeks went past, and my life became so static, and stagnant. Seeing Hazel’s face everyday honestly made me want to puke. At times, I’d meet her praying for her kids, and that would anger me more. She’d become a kind of punching bag for me because I vented my full anger on her whenever I felt like it. As for Xander, I didn’t know how he was doing it. For the time being, there was no trouble even with Darius having the kids, so I guessed all was going well. Perhaps he’d been avoiding Darius, although that was almost impossible and risking. However, how he handled it wasn’t really my problem. The only thing he’d become useful for was pleasing my body’s sexual desires. When he wasn’t doing that, everything else he was doing naturally became annoying. That very morning, I woke with a fever; something that was very rare for me to have. I got up, took some water, but my headache only got worse. Eventually, I crawled back

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-FOUR DARIUS’ POV {Three Weeks Later}The last three weeks that passed were hectic. Azel was still so closed off, and wouldn’t talk to me. He would not eat, and get me worried so much that I’d have to ask Theresa to find out what he wants, and take care of him so he wouldn’t get sick. Recently, things got worse. Azella, who was the more receptive one suddenly locked herself up, and wouldn’t leave her room. It was what baffled me the most, and caused me sleepless nights. A knock sounded on my door, and Theresa came in, holding Azel, who had a lollipop in his mouth, and a scowl on his face. “Yes?” “You asked for my report. Azella still won’t come out, and keeps crying. She won't let anyone talk to her.” She said, and I pushed aside the hectic work on my desk, with a sigh, before rising to my feet. Damn. My men were all over, looking for Melissa now. She’d simply gone off the grid. Her phone was untrackable. All of her records were blank. How she did

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-THREE DARIUS’ POV {The Previous Day}My heart stirred as I beheld the two children before me. My kids. Seeing the girl again, my resemblance was present in her shining face. And the boy… he was a combination of me and Hazel. They were really my kids—my heirs. They were… mine. The feeling in my chest felt tight. Like I couldn’t breathe. Just the pain of seeing them so close to me. I’d missed so many important things in their lives. Things I wanted to do with my heirs—take first steps, go out somewhere nice, hear them call my name. The girl smiled happily, her cheeks turning a deep pink as her adorable smile reached her ears. However, the boy had a deep-seated frown on his face, making him look more like me instead of Hazel. I raised my hand, and the guards following all came to stand behind me.“Take the kids in. Give them to Theresa. Food, water, clothes, a bed… give them everything they need.” I said, and they nodded, going to the kids. Azella'

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-TWOMELISSA'S POV Damn it. I was drunk. She was probably not in her right senses too. The silence was too thick, and my eyes fell on his lips. Firm, smooth, full… like a magnetic attraction, I was drawn to them, and couldn't take my eyes off them. And he made the move. He placed his hand behind my head, and bent to kiss me. It was when his lips touched mine that I knew it—my body ached to be loved. It ached to be wanted, wanted to be remembered. I'd spend so many years aching for Darius who never looked my way that I forgot what my body craved, and needed. My tears dropped as the kiss between me and Xander ran deeper, like we wanted to devour the whole of us, tongues gliding over tongues, over lips. My hands found the hardness of his chest, roaming around it as the feet seemed to pull out from underneath me. I fell against him, and he supported me, since the world was becoming unstable. My fingers ended up ripping his buttons, pulling his shirt

Two malnourished kids on their own for three days. They were dead. What would I do? My hands slowly threaded into my hair. If Darius ever found out…What would be my plan? What exactly was the whole plan from the start. Darius was never supposed to find out. He found out, and ruined everything. His patience would soon wear thin. He would soon realize that I would never ask for anything, and all I wanted was their deaths. What exactly was my plan?My hands fell limply to my sides, and I turned away from my parents, feeling the devastation continue to creep on me, snatching my chest in its iron grip. “Melissa! Where are you going in that manner? You…”“Don't act like you care! You ruined me!” I screamed, without even looking back. I needed to think.
